Review #330: Ronny My "Head In The Clouds"

Reviewed on 10.25.2009 (Review #330)

Watz goin’ on? It’s ya boy FrankieThaLuckyDog here, and I ‘bout ta do a review for Ronny My outta Baton Rouge. He added me on Facebook months ago, and outta nowhere, on his status, I saw this mixtape. I thought it was tha new Max Minelli/Kevin Gates song “Above The Clouds,” but it wasn’t, lol. Not sure what gon happen, but all I know iz it’s anotha review, so here it goes! Here goes my review fa Ronny My Head In The Clouds! Start Time: 1:53 PM | End Time: 3:44 PM

Disclaimer:
I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me or have auto-tune in your vocals, I’m not buyin’ it!

01. “What Am I Gonna Do”
Tha title gives me an unknown/unsure start… >>> This DEFINITELY iz NOT a Baton Rouge sound, so it’s gonna be real hard ta get used to… However, I like your voice. This beat iz a lil’ weird except for its uptemponess. I don’t know how this iz a starting song… I guess tha hook iz pretty good for a vocal sample; I’ll take it. Lemme just pretend I’m not in a Baton Rouge state of mind right now. Pretty good job on tha 1st verse, by tha way. I like how you said, “neitin’,” like my boy Blu Black on tha 2nd verse. Nice job on tha 2nd verse. I should offer lyrical ratings for these kinda songs on this CD so you can see that I can show luv 2 different ways. Interestin’ lyrics on tha 3rd verse, includin’ all tha shit about you and different thingz in tha news. Good start to this CD, although real different for a starting song. Lyrical Rating: 4.6 | My Rating: 3.8

02. “I Don’t Need You”
Looks like you’re very anti to typicalness… Let’s see how you apply dat inta this song. >>> Still different on tha beat; kinda on a mainstream level. It sounds like you’re spittin’ real daily shit here in tha 1st verse. Nice job on tha 1st verse, fa real. Tha hook iz more anti-havin’ a female type. You’re betta off by yourself; look @ me! It sounds like tha verses breeze by, but at least it makes a 3rd verse come along; nice job on tha 2nd verse too. Matta fact, you substituted a 3rd verse for a bridge; it sounded good for a bridge. Lyrical Rating: 4.4 | My Rating: 3.7

03. “I’m Good”
Tha title here looks like tha answer from tha last song. Let’s see you tell it like it iz! >>> A lil’ on tha uptempo tip, but tha way tha beat sounds iz just a lil’ below decent fa me. Hook iz aight, but I would’ve rather’ve heard tha 1st verse 1st. An okay 1st verse from you; I need ta hear more. Interestin’ lyrics goin’ on in tha 2nd verse. Nice job deliverin’ dat 2nd verse. I’m assumin’ you’re sober/don’t smoke based off these songs? Now, we got a 3rd verse, and it sounds like it on a mainstream level again. Lyrical Rating: 4.2 | My Rating: 3.4

04. “Just Do You”
That’s what I “do” when it comes ta this shit, whether it’s supportin’, bein’ myself, etc.; it’s ALL me! >>> Tha intro sounds like there’ll finally be some tightness in this CD? A betta beat start here, so I feel a lil’ anticipated. I hear tha hook, and I like when people say, “I see ya lookin’, wit ya lookin’-ass.” Nice job on tha hook, as it works wit this beat. I REALLY like tha start to tha 1st verse wit “I’m Mario, and you just a Toadstool,” as referrin’ ta Super Mario Bros.! This iz a lil’ betta fa me, includin’ everything in this song itself. I still think it was weird that it took 4 songs ta get to a song that’s tight. Nice job on tha 1st verse, and you KNOW tha hook iz official! Nice job on tha 2nd verse too, deliverin’ sum good shit! LMAO @ tha start to tha 3rd verse wit “…come up like an erection.” I like tha “like Floetry, she’ll say ‘yes.’” part. Thanx for this song, as it worked out gr8! Lyrical Rating: 4.4 | My Rating: 4.3

05. “Lil’ Boy Lost” Feat. Megean Whiten
I wonder what this song gon be about… >>> Sounds like a slow intro; looks like it gon be a sad theme? That voice on tha hook (female singer) sounds REAL familiar…; can’t figure out who she exactly iz. Tha 1st verse iz you, and it’s DEFINITELY on an interestin’ level ‘cause you’re rappin’ exactly about tha title, a “lil’ boy” that must’ve “lost.” DEFINITELY feelin’ all tha interestin’ lyrics goin’ on here, and speakin’ of “4.4 GPA,” who knows, this song’ll prolly get ova a “4.4” lyrical rating! Nice job on tha 1st verse, my boy. Still keepin’ it interestin’ on tha 2nd verse. Nice job wit tha 2nd verse, although I thought tha 1st verse was much betta. Soundin’ like some good, lyrical hood lyrics for tha 3rd verse; nice shit goin’ on here. Lyrical Rating: 4.8 | My Rating: 4.2

06. “Runnin’”
Only 1:48 on tha length, so I have a feelin’ you’ll be fast and “runnin’” wit your lyrics, lol. >>> Spittin’ on a 90’s beat from (I think) The Pharcyde (which Mya sampled for “Fallen” in 2003). It sounds like you’re gonna be good on this! Yea, you’re DEFINITELY fast on tha verse here, as well as deliverin’ sum good-ass shit! Catchy rhymes here, includin’ tha “lunch line” part. Good job wit dat verse. Lyrical Rating: 4.5 | My Rating: 4.1

07. “What A Bum (Free Kevin Gates)”
LOL @ this title! Regardless of soundin’ like ANYTHING, this song should be interestin’!! >>> Ooh, Reggae in tha beginning from a female! Oh, it’s tha typical “bum, bum, a what a bum bum…” sample; DEFINITELY good right here! I’m DEFINITELY inta this, so this should be a GR8 tribute ta gettin’ Gates outta jail! You’re soundin’ pretty good on tha 1st verse; interestin’/nice beat here. Nice job on tha 1st verse, and other than tha Reggae sample in tha hook, you’re chantin’ (in a Jamaican voice), “free Kevin Gates now! Free Kevin Gates now!;” good shit! It makes me look forward to tha 2nd verse, and I’m right about lookin’ forward ta it! Thanx for tha hood lyrics wit tha “thief in tha night” shit; good job! Even givin’ my hometown a shout out wit tha “Long Island iced tea” part at tha end; thumbs up! Oh wait, there’s a 3rd verse! Glad you “fuck wit Deadgame;” it must be good ta have dat connection! Good shit right here! Lyrical Rating: 4.3 | My Rating: 4.4

08. “Don’t Walk Away”
Lemme see how you gon follow up tha past few songs… >>> I had this beat as a guess for this song, but I didn’t think you was gon rap on it. Actually, it’s just a lil’ twist of tha song (“Don’t Walk Away” from Jade from tha 90’s). Soundin’ pretty good wit tha rappin’ in tha 1st verse; NICE and fast! Good job deliverin’ dat, and whoeva tha singer iz happens ta sing tha 2nd ½ of tha 1st verse on tha original version, as well as tha hook. I rather’ve heard tha old song’s vocals, but I guess this iz acceptable. Tha 2nd verse sounded short, but it fit for what it was. I guess decent ending… Lyrical Rating: 4.0 | My Rating: 3.9

09. “Can We Talk”
Now, it looks like you’re inta gettin’ tha females back? Lemme see what you’re all about on here… >>> Again, it sounds 90’s ish on tha beat. It sounds pretty good wit tha beat as well. You almost sound like A.R. from BR wit tha way you sound, only your songs are better. Soundin’ very attractive for tha ladies on tha 1st verse; nice job deliverin’ dat. Tha 2nd verse was equal to tha 1st verse. Now, I’m assumin’ tha 3rd verse gon do tha same… Goin’ sexual here wit all tha “lickin’,” lol. LOL @ tha “screamin’ ‘OMG!’” part too! Catchy 3rd verse fa me, which made me like it tha most. Lyrical Rating: 4.1 | My Rating: 4.0

½time: Well, tha beginning was different fa me, and it looked like tha 2nd ¼ of this CD got betta fa me. Nice job mixin’ all kinds of shit here. Now, you need some party songs! Average CD rating turned out tha be 4.0 on tha ½time!

10. “I’m Down”
How we gon start tha 2nd ½ of this CD off? >>> Sounds like it has more R&B vibes in tha samples and shit. I like tha uptemponess in tha beginning; let’s see what happens overall. Tha hook iz pretty good, and tha 1st verse iz soundin’ pretty good also. You’re now on a sexual tip here on tha 2nd verse; nice job here. I wonder what it’s like ta be “bitin’” and shit on females… Sounds like you want a female ta control your life on tha 3rd verse…; that’ll neva be me. When I get ta have a girlfriend, I wanna still be able ta have all my talents and shit, and NOT lose any of them! Lyrical Rating: 4.2 | My Rating: 3.8

11. “Goin’ 2 Party”
FINALLY? After 10 songs? Why it only 1:46? >>> Oh, it must be on some ol’ skool type of shit. I see that’s why your lengths are kinda short… I hear a phone call in tha beginning; I thought she was speakin’ anotha language at first, lol. LOL, it took 42 seconds fa tha verse ta start… Sounded pretty good for your verse, and I like how you say your name at tha end. Lyrical Rating: 3.9 | My Rating: 3.9

12. “I’mma Do Me”
LOL, ewe, oh… It gon be what I think it iz on tha beat? >>> Oh, it’s originally, but a lil’ weird on tha beat intro wit all dat snappin’ for this title. Sounds like you’re deliverin’ good lyrics on tha 1st verse. I like how there’s different sounds goin’ on in tha beat. Tha hook iz pretty catchy, especially endin’ each line on tha hook wit “watch me like tha movie.” On tha 2nd verse, why would you “do a song wit Auto-Tune?” Just hearin’ that word iz like watchin’ gay community people; yuck! Also, hearin’ people on Auto-Tune iz like hearin’ gay people fuck; that’s how DISGUSTIN’ it iz!! I guess pretty good 2nd verse, and it sounds like you’re deliverin’ decent shit on tha 3rd verse. Lyrical Rating: 4.3 | My Rating: 3.5

13. “Smooth Shit”
Wasn’t tha last song “smooth” enough for its title? >>> This iz even smoother… A pretty nice intro, but I don’t know about takin’ it serious… Did you just say, “dat smooth shit right here, Guss?” He didn’t produce this, did he? If so, why do people gotta sound all weird wit their beats at times? What’s up wit tha “I wish he was gay” part in tha 1st verse? Tha hook iz just ehh… I guess only for you as you say, “you can’t do dis.” I guess good job on tha 2nd verse, and LOL @ tha start to tha 3rd verse wit “call me butta ‘cause I’m on a roll;” I like it, lol. Tha 3rd verse sounded like it flowed pretty good. You kept this song consistent AND original, so that’s a plus! It’s just a decent song fa me though. LOL @ tha cold ending fa this one. Lyrical Rating: 4.5 | My Rating: 3.3

14. “Her Song”
I thought you were done wit tha females? >>> I like how you used tha Sade “Cherish The Day” sample in tha beginning. This sounds betta for a “smooth” song than tha last song for a start! LOL @ tha “can we grow together like mildew” part; smelly!! Nice job on tha 1st verse though, ya dig! Sounds like you’re SO appreciated now for tha females, so you get a plus for your self-esteem! Nice job on tha 2nd verse, and I wanna see what you got fa tha 3rd verse. LMAO @ tha cut off of tha “cherish tha day” part where it was like, “cherish tha—.”Still soundin’ positive on tha 3rd verse, as you don’t wanna cause any drama; I feel dat. Now, tha last hook had tha full sample title, includin’ its hook, lol. I like this one, so this iz a plus fa me. Lyrical Rating: 4.4 | My Rating: 4.3

15. “Diary Of Me”
I heard 14 songs already. Now, it’s time for tha 15th one, I guess describin’ a whole “diary of you.” >>> Anotha slow song? I hope you come through nice on it. Very Millionaireish in tha beginning wit resistin’ tha “lifeline” and tha “phone a friend.” It sounds like you’re tryna stay up here on tha 1st verse. Yea, what’s up wit all those “hoes” wit “spendin’ money?” Who would even “make it rain” on them, but not do business wit me instead? Those are tha people I like ta keep an eye on ta see how NON-serious they really are, thinkin’ they got all money and shit, smh. I guess pretty good 1st verse. Tha hook was aight, although I almost didn’t think this song had ta do wit tha title ‘til I heard you say tha title. Tha 2nd verse sounds pretty good. I can neva picture “fuckin’ gurlz and not knowin’ their names;” how iz that possible? Only 2 verses? Felt like this song breezed by. Lyrical Rating: 4.3 | My Rating: 3.4

16. “When I’m Gone”
I don’t really need a preview… >>> This iz a female type of vocal sample I don’t like… I hate when songs have ta have it in tha background; there’s NO catchiness when people do dat, and it’s a waste of money too ta get tha approval!! Tha beat iz not even me, but it sounds like you’re keepin’ tha rhymes alive on tha 1st verse. I see you said, “Special Ed. flow like a retard.” Although not exactly retards, lemme ask you: What do you think of people that have Autism or Aspergers? Answer tha question 1st, then read this: Do you realize an Autism/Aspergers person iz doin’ this review for you right now? Tha 2nd verse was still pretty good, but this song barely has any interest for me. Lyrical Rating: 4.4 | My Rating: 2.8

17. “My Way”
It could be tha Usher beat, but what I was about ta say was that you got anotha song about YOU on here, lol! >>> Too slow for Usher’s song, but I think it’s an even older song remade. It iz, Frank Sinatra. Not really for me once again; why are these songs gettin’ worse all of a sudden? Kinda long for a hook/intro, as it’s almost a minute long. LOL @ tha cut off at :57 when he was ‘pose ta say, “regrets;” he said, “re—.”I hear you on tha 1st verse, and it sounds like you’re DEFINITELY “doin’ it your way;” that’s a plus on any level! No wonder why tha song iz long… Tha hook iz 57 seconds long. LMAO @ tha “re—” cut off again! Your 2nd verse iz soundin’ betta here; betta lyrics, so that’s a plus. No cut off before tha 4:00 mark as tha sample continues… Long fade-out, as it’s 20 seconds long. Lyrical Rating: 4.4 | My Rating: 2.5

18. “My Thoughts”
“My, my, my, my, my!” It all good though! >>> I hear a lil’ bit of 90’s in tha beat, but then again, it’s more on tha Hip-Hop side here. At least there’s more rappin’ for a song a lil’ ova 2x less on tha length (2:20) than tha last song. Thanx for these “thoughts,” lol. Huh? “Guss be on dat shit too?” Neva mind, I thought you meant this beat (which he prolly iz), but I think you talkin’ about bein’ on your “thoughts.” I do think this beat iz interestin’, and tha lyrics are real catchy/interestin’ in tha 2nd verse! You talkin’ ‘bout your “father;” what about your mother? Lyrical Rating: 4.7 | My Rating: 3.8

19. “Thank You”
“Thanks” for makin’ me take almost 2 hours out of my time ta review this, lol. >>> Speakin’ of tha oldies, it sounds like some old vocalizin’ in tha beginning. Pretty good uptempo beat here, and tha vocalizin’ from tha R&B dudes make it sound pretty catchy too. You be “gettin’ all tha gurlz naked;” how you do that? Tha hook iz on an R&B tip, and it sounds pretty catchy wit this beat. Tha 2nd verse sounded good, and tha 3rd verse iz soundin’ good too; gotta like when you rap ‘cause it’s interestin’ at times! Lyrical Rating: 4.3 | My Rating: 3.7

Overall: Well, tha review iz ova. Although there was 0% of a Baton Rouge feel to it, I still thought you came through REAL nice wit your lyrics, your content, and everything YOU did ‘cause it was YOUR “way” throughout tha whole entire CD! Keep ya head up, and keepin’ bein’ YOU!
