Review #1,333: Lil' Ya "Hoodmac Mentality"

Reviewed on 10.30.2013 (Review #1,333)

Time to get some reviewz goin’, despite bein’ in tha mist of editing/making seven video countdowns! This review iz for U.N.L.V. member, Lil’ Ya, and it’s from last year: Hoodmac Mentality! Start Time: 12:05 PM | End Time: 12:41 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you use tha word “swag” frequently, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes 100,000x (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it! After I was robbed by an artist who claimed they “get money,” hearin’ about how much you “got money” and anything “money” really bothers me. If you have not done business wit me before, I won’t tolerate “money” talk in tha music!!

01. “Interlude”
>>> Wish you would consider this an album than “mixtape.” It’s like, you was around durin’ tha album dayz! Tha start, here, sounds like an album, but wit that “La Musica de Harry Fraud” tag, I guess you can consider it a “mixtape.” You sound good, here, wit tha rhymes. Seems like you still got dat cool voice and N.O. sound! My Rating: 4.0

02. “The Game Needs Me”
>>> Yuck @ a Jay-Z sample for tha hook, but I think this gon sound good… Okay, I’m feelin’ tha beat you got goin’ on, here… Sounds like a good hook; I can’t complain too much… Here you are on tha 1st verse, comin’ through wit good rhymes, always showin’ luv ta “Yella.” Tha 2nd verse sounds like you’ve been all grown up… And, tha 3rd verse ain’t too bad, either… My Rating: 3.7

03. “4 In The Morning”
>>> How gay wit tha beat choice: “Pop Champagne”? SMH… At least pick online beats! At least tha rhymes have that ‘90s N.O. sound to ‘em. But, because of this beat, my interest iz lost… Maybe, I can produce for you ($100 a beat), and these jacked beats can go away! Seems so long fa 3:41… My Rating: 3.2

04. “Ya Heard Me Like Me”
>>> Not again (“That’s Gangsta”)! No offense, but it sounds like you’re broke, based off of all jacked beats… Peeps like you don’t need “mixtapes;” just stick ta albums! That’s why, it’s like tha pet population: There’s too many “mixtapes” out there! Sounds okay wit your rhymes, but N.O. and non-Louisiana jacked beatz don’t mix! That’s what Lil’ Wayne tries ta do! My Rating: 2.4

05. “The One I Trusted”
>>> Sounds catchy wit tha “spread like mustard” shit. My Rating: 3.6

06. “Lil’ Boochie”
>>> Sounds like an okay song, but a better story about this “Boochie” dude. My Rating: 3.5

½time: Not too great for me, so far… Really not feelin’ how there’s OAF jacked beats on here, for an artist that’s had success without havin’ ta put out “mixtapes.” 3.4 CD rating, currently.

07. “Fresh”
>>> “2009”? Why a “So Fresh, So Clean” beat? Another turn-off fa me… Sounds like you’re good at spendin’ money. Hope some of it can come my way! My Rating: 2.1

08. “Tribute To Yella”
>>> At least this ain’t on none of dat gay, jacked-beat-soundin’ shit. Tha beat sounds nice for tha old times, includin’ that it’s a “tribute.” Rhymes are good, too… I like how it ended with “you blow dat gar I left in ya casket?” My Rating: 3.7

09. “Love”
>>> Just gonna skip this; no time for Nicki Minaj “Your Love”, wtf?! My Rating: 1.0

10. “Early In The Morning” Feat. Big Ramp, Naughty Da Wildboy & Fila Phil
Oldie? >>> Yea, it’s easily old ‘cause tha length’s 6:58! Well, maybe not that old since y’all know about “Beyoncé.” Anyway, this iz a great-soundin’, old-soundin’ bounce song. Tha 1st verse ain’t too bad, and tha singin’ on tha hook provides that classic bounce vibe! Tha 2nd verse sounds catchy fa this… LOL @ “ride dat dick like a cowgirl.” At around 5:00, it switches up to tha “Back That Ass Up” beat; now, that’s a jacked-beat switch-up! Not those boring songs from this CD! And, endin’ wit some bounce; pretty good! My Rating: 4.3

11. “Rest In Peace”
>>> Kinda sounds like Flesh & Blood’s “R.I.P.” song on tha hook, here… Beat sounds a lil’ smooth; goes good wit this… Tha 1st verse sounds good wit all these memories/bad moments. Tha rest of this sounds good. Can’t complain about tha 4:43 length, here… Even has a lil’ outro, too… My Rating: 4.2

12. “I Know”
>>> Whether it’s jacked or not, tha beat ain’t too bad, here… This sounds good wit how you “know” so many… I’m sure you must “know” ‘bout me, I think? Well, I ain’t review too much of U.N.L.V. or your music, yet… Been on a break, due to some thangz, but I’ll be back to reviewin’ old CDs, eventually… Ooh, @ 1:23, some drums and cymbals; nice! My Rating: 3.9

Overall: Well, kinda was a lil’ mixed for me… Really wasn’t into tha jacked beats, but there were a few songs that had some good vibes from you. Nothin’ outstanding, but some stuff was good… Next time, come through wit an album!!
