Review #1,422: Lil' Cali "Work Call"

Reviewed on 12.01.2014 (Review #1,422)

Here comes FrankieThaLuckyDog again with anotha review… Off tha Travis James Entertainment & UTP Records labels, here’s my review for Lil’ Cali Work Call. Normally, on a typical day today, where I’m workin’ all week, I prolly would’ve never gotten this mixtape on time. Rarely does anybody in tha music business fuck wit me serious, anymore. However, thanx to peeps like Mass Appeal bein’ behind me, encouragin’ me to “go to them, rather than them comin’ to you,” that’s one main reason why I decided to go out and search for this CD. And so, I’m puttin’ in that effort on my day off! Let’s hope this goes over well and iz appreciated by Cali and his peeps! Start Time: 5:39 PM | End Time: 7:19 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you use tha word “swag” frequently, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes 100,000x (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it! After I was robbed by two artists who claimed their “money [was] long,” hearin’ about how much you “got money” and anything “money” really bothers me. If you have not done business wit me before, I won’t tolerate “money” talk in tha music!!

01. “Intro”
Production from BaseHedz Musik, here… >>> Really diggin’ tha beginning music of tha beat, here… Nice rhymes startin’ tha 1st verse off, and I agree about those ‘other people’ bein’ on dat “Boosie & Webbie.” You already know that tha Lucky Dog’s “been on” anyone underrated that no one really knows! Since age 11 & now at 26, I’m still like that! Tha hook sounds nice, too, with tha “pyrex” and shit like that; really diggin’ this beat, too! Diggin’ how tha 2nd verse sounds with you bein’ on “dat lean” and shit like dat. I’ve been increasin’ my chances of gettin’ fucked-up, as of lately. Like, there hasn’t been one month of age 26 that I’ve had my piss clean; it’s about time I’m enjoyin’ myself, ya know? Nice job wit tha 2nd verse, as you keepin’ this addictive shit on-n-poppin’! My Rating: 4.4

02. “Da Plug” Feat. Young Dolph & Mouse On Tha Track
This looks like it gon be fiya! Prolly one of tha highlights of this mixtape, just like how tha “Intro” sounded to me! With Mouse on tha beat, here, I’m pretty much anticipated to see how all three of y’all ran it, here!! >>> Anotha catchy beat start, and I’m diggin’ Mouse teasin’ me wit tha “Dat…,” as it echoes, lol! Nice lil’ hook from Mouse; likin’ his catchy voice, as always! Sounds nice and laidback wit how he delivers this ‘cause of tha relaxin’, southern beat, lol… And, here you are on tha 1st verse, comin’ through wit greater success than tha past. I like your “-go”-soundin’ rhymes at tha end of tha 1st verse; nice and consistent! And, here comes tha 2nd verse from Dolph; whoo! Sounds good wit his “plug” and non-stop grindin’, as always! Likin’ all tha background talkin’, like at 2:27 with tha, “Bruh,” and all dat; gotta luv tha south! Glad y’all hooked up; interestin’ collab! Hope y’all do more in tha future! Should be on MTV Jams, even though it’s hard for me to keep up wit that shit, these dayz… My Rating: 4.5

03. “Cut Up” Feat. Kevin Gates & Nunu James
Keepin’ tha anticipatin’ southern features comin’ along, with Mouse doin’ anotha beat! Gotta give Gates lifetime props for changin’ my music life, since I got discovered off of music-leading his music! Even you were payin’ attention to my music-leading of Gates, too, Cali! And, I shall continue! >>> When I think of “Travis James Entertainment,” that name alone reminds me of Dead Game Records’ “Travis,” but I know they’re different… Anyway, nice beginning and 1st verse from Gates, here, ova this nice-soundin’ Mouse beat! LOL @ him with this “rubber” and their “mother,” lol… Diggin’ tha hook from Cali, here, on tha hook; Nunu sounds pretty good, too… Here’s tha 2nd verse from that Nunu James dude, comin’ through nicely; can’t complain with this consistent rhymin’ ova this Mouse beat… And, keepin’ yourself for tha final verse on here, Cali, comin’ through wit this gangsta shit. Hmm, “Seven years, I’ve been hot;” surprised it’s been that long since “Out My Pocket” and all dat… Then again, it’s been a full decade since dat Long Live Tha Game came out, back in’ 04! We’ve been here for a while now, Cali! My Rating: 4.2

04. “Fuckable” Feat. Juvenile
LOL, looks like tha way I talk, with my “–licious,” “–tacular,” “–ness,” “–less,” etc.! With that bein’ said, I’m lookin’ forward ta hearin’ this! And, we’ve got Mike Maven on tha beat, here… >>> Anotha anticipatin’ beat, here; glad this has an undaground sound! Ooh, diggin’ tha Juve hook!! “You lookin’ fuckable;” how addictive, lol!! And, Juve on tha 1st verse, comin’ through wit a classic, faster-soundin’ flow; luvin’ this!! Really diggin’ tha “fuckable, fuckable, fuck—” shit at 1:25!! Great lil’ breakdown before tha 2nd verse!! And, Cali’s on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through wit catchiness, too; gotta dig these “fuckable” rhymes, lol! My Rating: 4.7

05. “Hate That Bitch” Feat. Level
*Blushes with embarrassment…* It’s Fall 2014 & both these people still exist? Level & B-Real? Pretty sad how you fuck with them still and not me, Cali; do I have to piss in front of you or “fuck” a girl? Too bad these ‘random people’ like B-Real will prolly neva get tha proper exposure from me, due to there’s no way to book, get a hold of, or hear from them! Doesn’t he realize that in order to do business, like, you need a number to get a hold of you?! Like, y’all need to realize that I have a record label behind me, now! Thought y’all’d be on my dick, but still, nowhere to be found! Only those with true value shall be granted with my dedicated talent! Oh, thank God I’ve fallen off! Anyway, with that bein’ said, as much as I’m anticipated to hear this, just know that I have work tomorrow, so this gon go in one ear and out tha other, kinda like how I’m treated! *Stares at girls I work with while this plays…* >>> Even a new beat tag; too much time has went on, but I don’t regret any of it… Anyway, sounds pretty nice and nice lil’ repeatin’ hook… Nice 1st verse from you, Cali, even though you’re comin’ through wit an anti-social perspective… At least it’s for tha bitches, but still, you’ll still chase ‘em more than make me a priority, smfh! Good flow and delivery from Level on tha 2nd verse, but that’s about it; forget about tha lyrics! Anotha lacking-priority ‘person’ for me; that’s why, I have a job now and do what tha fuck I want! My Rating: 4.0

06. “Kitchen” Feat. Skip & B-Real
No, not again wit tha B-Real on tha track!! I was able to manage dealin’ with one track, but don’t make this a habit!! >>> Sounds a lil’ betta than tha previous song; nice lil’ intro from you, Cali. Hearin’ tha hook from Skip and it’s definitely soundin’ like that classic-soundin’, ’06 Pyrex Radio shit I grew up to! Too bad I can’t go back to those dayz ‘cause of how many bitch-made artists turned bitches! *Hears B-Real’s voice on tha 2nd ½ of tha hook and blushes like Frankie’s got a rash…!* Wow, and still, B-Real doesn’t get credited as an extra on tha hook… And see, your “bitch-asshole” Frankie still pulls through and gives you credit, B-Real! How ‘bout dat? Whatever! I just know that there’s extra hours at work waitin’ for me, as well as me just starin’ at them chicks from my job to ooze my pain! Anyway, after all that braggin’, B-Real sounds excellent and classic on tha hook, here! At least it’s not about braggin’ about “money!” I betta not eva hear that come outta his mouth, these dayz!! Cali’s on tha 1st verse, comin’ through wit dat hot-soundin’ “pyrex”-related rhymes; gotta luv ‘em! And, Skip’s pretty nice on tha 2nd verse; feelin’ his gritty attitude and rhymes on this! Oh, if only tha Louisiana music world was normal again, I’d be able to bump this and enjoy it, especially that I have hot chicks behind me. However, B-Real still has me blocked on both Facebook & Instagram, as well as me not havin’ an updated number, so with that bein’ said, no entrance for Louisiana music! Other than mainstream shit, I haven’t added anything underground to my playlist since before B-Real blocked me, which was back in January! Oh, what a way to ruin it for tha underdogs!! I do have to give B-Real credit for at least subscribin’ to me on YouTube, but still, how about some reconnectin’? I’m gettin’ actual money now, and have a better view on things! But, no one wants to listen, so I won’t pay attention! Oh yeah, like I said before, “In one ear and out tha other!” Can’t wait to go to work tomorrow!! Wish it was 13 hours!! My Rating: 4.6

07. “Shooter” Feat. Racked-Up Ready & Zoe Realla
LiveMixtapes got it right with “Racked-Up Ready” but, lol, tha back cover’s thinkin’ of tha nice past by puttin’ it as “Young Ready,” lol… Anyway, anotha interestin’ collaboration with Red On Tha Track doin’ tha beat, here…! Thought he was more of an R&B cat with tha beats, but with this collaboration, it should be more of that serious, street shit! >>> Nice beginning… Takin’ a risk with tha voice effect on tha hook, Cali? This one, I can let pass tha test; it’s not annoying or gay sounding! Tha 1st verse from you sounds pretty nice; feelin’ how you talkin’ ‘bout this “shooter.” You already know how them grimy shooters come through! Got Ready on tha 2nd verse, here, comin’ through wit a nice verse. However, a lil’ too much about braggin’ about “money!” Like, why does it have to start almost every line off? Zoe comin’ through on tha 3rd verse nicely; diggin’ his slammin’ deliveries on this beat! Gotta feel him tha best, outta here! No braggin’ all tha time about “money,” but more on how he always comin’ through fa tha streetz! My Rating: 4.1

08. “Jugg”
Okay, back to tha no-feature songs, with tha unknown, here! Nice and simple, here: Niyo on tha beat; how will it go? >>> Almost reminded me of tha “Catchin’ Sales” song from ’09 with Mouse, with tha hook, at first… However, this sounds good as its own song, five years from that song; catchy hook, Cali! Tha 1st verse sounds great; feelin’ how you keepin’ those “sales on [your] iPhone” continuously grow! Tha 2nd verse’s nice, too; keep dat grind goin’, Cali! My Rating: 4.2

09. “Findaway” Feat. Wale & Juvenile
Almost looks like Kiesza’s “Hideaway” on tha title, here. Anyway, tha producer, Elvin Presley’s now goin’ by his full name? Formerly was known as E.P., back in tha ’09 dayz that I was just talkin’ about. But, I dunno if I’m anticipatin’ this mainstream list of features… >>> Feelin’ tha beat, so far; doesn’t hint any mainstream bullshit feelings, at least… Got you on tha 1st verse, Cali, comin’ through nicely; not bad, so far… Tha hook sounds like Max Minelli, almost; a lil’ on tha catchy side, at least… I almost thought this joint was gonna be depressing or on some mainstream bullshit… And, we got Wale on tha 2nd verse, and even he sounds pretty nice; I’ll give it my own props. He sounds catchy wit how he delivers tha rhymes; good shit. Juve has a nice start to tha 3rd verse: “Open up tha vault, it’s an aerial assault;” nice!! These rhymes are nice; gotta dig ‘em! My Rating: 4.2

½time: For some unanticipatin’ comments on LiveMixtape’s comment section, I have to say, this tape’s doin’ pretty well with my ears, so far! Even with tha two uncomfortable tracks, statistically, they came through and delivered tha addictive goods! And, tha average CD rating for tha ½time’s a 4.3; that’s a good look! However, I dunno if you still pay attention to this shit, anymore… Like, you follow me on Twitter & Instagram and I neva even get likes or retweets; boring? We already know who’s tha busiest person on Earth: ME!

10. “Had A Million”
“Boss On The Track” or “Tha Track”? Back cover says, “Tha,” while mp3 info says, “The.” I’ll go with tha “Tha,” here… Anyway, I dunno if I gon fuck wit this ‘money-obsessed’ title! >>> Tha producer sounds like he’s hinting some B-Real sounds in tha beat; am I music-leading when I say that? I’ve already predicted B-Real’s future plenty of times before! Anyway, anotha funny-soundin’ voice of yours on tha hook, but it sounds good; I can fuck wit it, even though ‘money’ songs go in one ear and out tha otha, for me, in this brainwashed, one-dimensional rap world! Tha 1st verse sounds good; not bad wit how you come through wit tha rhymes… In tha hook, you say, “Make sure my niggaz straight.” I hope you loyal like that ‘cause 99% of tha music world claims to care about others. Meanwhile, they turn on you and become pussy, bein’ like, “That’s between y’all two; I ain’t gettin’ involved!” SMH, I block people that be like that! No such thing as “friendship,” there! And, I don’t regret my moves! I risk-take all tha time and that’s why, I have tha reputation I have! Anyway, good job wit tha 2nd verse, Cali; feelin’ this B-Real-influenced track… My Rating: 4.3

11. “Can’t Fuck Wit Y’all” Feat. Lady Kym
Wonder how much I gon like/dislike this one? A Nunu James-produced track… >>> Stupid beat tag; when will they go away? You’re on tha 1st verse and it sounds like a nice grind; I dig it, even with this calm, southern beat soundin’ good… Hearin’ tha hook from Lady Kym and it sounds good; nice voice and singin’, here! Thought it was gon be some stupid love song, but you keep provin’ my low expectations wrong, Cali… Here you are on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through wit somethin’ I go through: “Sendin’ ‘em letters in tha pen; they ain’t write back!” Well, when you ignored me those last few times I tried writin’ you, how you think I feel, Cali? Don’t contradict yourself, now! Even though I like this, at least it’s nice and short with only two verses; didn’t drag at any point! My Rating: 4.1

12. “Fuck U” Feat. B-Real
*That moment where you say some hot chick that lacks makin’ you a priority at work’s name, and B-Real appears on tha production…* I still can’t believe how B-Real’s tha reason why I’m constantly cheerful at work! Like, a lady came in a few dayz ago and handed me a Christmas card with a $10 gas card in it ‘cause of how passionate I am!! Do these people really know where my motivation and counter-happiness came from?! >>> Really likin’ tha beat start, but gotta remember: Once this review ends, it goes out my ear! I had a feelin’ that B-Real would be uncredited on this song, somewhere; didn’t think it would go as just you on tha track, Cali… Anyway, it sounds real nice with one of tha best voices on tha hook, but still, puttin’ girls before makin’ me help your career out, B-Real? Not cool! Sucks that you had your chance with me, until donuts took my priorities away from tha music business! But, Cali, you got tha 1st verse on lock, here; can’t deny how you treat ‘em! Still, I wish I was more important than these hoes! Feelin’ just as good about tha 2nd verse with how I felt about tha 1st verse: Nice with how you comin’ through on this beat… My Rating: 4.3

13. “Fuck ‘Em & Duck ‘Em” Feat. Juvenile
Finally, takin’ a break from tha uncomfortable! Elvin Presley on tha beat, keepin’ these “Fuck” titles comin’ along, lol! >>> Nice beginning beat; that Louisiana sound I love! Tha 1st verse sounds nice wit you on it, Cali, with some Juve “Ha”-influenced deliveries; nice! Even still sounds nice with tha ’07 “I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-T” quote; nice, Cali! And, Juve continues with tha excellent “fuckable” hook, here, lol! And, here you are on tha 2nd verse, Cali, comin’ through, on dat “weed;” you already know! SMH @ all those other times when I used to like Louisiana music; I was smokin’, like, every 363 dayz! What a faggot I was!!! I just sat in my room and reviewed, instead!! Huh? Random eight seconds of silence at tha end? Cold ending; brrr! My Rating: 4.4

14. “I Ain’t” Feat. Young Greatness
Red Rum on tha beat, here; lookin’ forward to anotha new feature! Glad that no matter what CD I review of yours, there’s always a newbie I’ve neva heard of, before! >>> Nice beat; almost thought it was Boosie on tha hook? I won’t say he’s jackin’ his voice; I’ll just say that he’s got that nice, undaground, grimy voice that I’ve always wanted to hear when reviewin’ newbies! Great job on tha hook; pure fiya, here!! Tha 1st verse iz you, Cali, comin’ through wit dat street “code;” gotta keep it movin’! Speakin’ of “movin’,” any news on eva meetin’ me? Like, I feel like I’m worth nothin’… I dunno, will it change wit a label behind me, now? This music world’s been awfully quiet, lately… Like, no one made noise from tha undaground, this year! Can’t even do awards anymore! Here’s tha 2nd verse; iz that tha same dude on tha hook? With this 2nd verse, tha voice almost reminds me of Future… Either way, I still feel excited; nice energy! My Rating: 4.4

15. “They Love Me” Feat. UTP
Keepin’ tha UTP affiliates comin’ along, here, with Mike Maven on tha beat! >>> Nice intro from Juve; yeah, gotta detect those mugs! Nobody likes me; I know! Nice job wit tha 1st verse, Juve; you know how I feel about makin’ it through these streetz! Tha 2nd verse’s nice; either Wacko or Skip, I still get them confused… An okay verse; this an okay track, overall… Here you are on tha 3rd verse, Cali, comin’ through wit some catchier rhymes; nice shit here, overall. However, will I ever be anyone’s “Day 1 nigga?” I dunno, err-body can’t handle my true feelings! My Rating: 3.9

16. “Luxury Car” Feat. Suge
Ooh, tha BaseHedz Musik producer’s back; lookin’ forward ta this one! >>> Anotha nicely-produced track; diggin’ how you talkin’ ‘bout your come up on tha 1st verse, Cali! Yeah, that’s right: “Money bring power;” though I’m not an outspoken person about “money,” I do have to say that it’s helped me. Too bad that no one in Louisiana fucks wit me anymore ‘cause I have “money.” Anyway, enough of dat! Suge sounds pretty good on tha hook; sounds like a nice-and-random feature to deliver tha hook, and you already know how I dig those random features! Nice shit on tha 2nd verse, too; can’t deny this… Wow, gotta luv tha haunting choir sound at tha end of tha beat!! My Rating: 4.2

17. “Smell Like Money” Feat. Kidd Kidd
Really? It took 17 songs to get to this…? Thought it was gonna be 3rd or somethin’… Anyway, as much as you wanted to “randomly” argue with me a while ago, see, look: Even on this CD, I wonder why there’s no producer listed, while all tha other tracks have producers listed…? Hmm…, hmm…, hmm…, hmm…, hmm… *Stares at hot gurlz!* Too bad this marked tha end of our business relationship, as I thought we could’ve taken it to another level? I should really rate this a 1.0 ‘cause of that, but I’ll let it just be for this review and then, go out my earz… As far as this song, like I’ve said before, nice, random hook from an unknown female. Also, nice job wit tha 1st verse wit how you comin’ through. Same thing wit tha 2nd verse, as you keepin’ this hot, and not like a regular “money” song… Though on MTV Jams on April 2, you tried gettin’ cocky with me, and I ain’t like that at all! You neva even answered me after, which caused me to try to find different priorities, as well. Like, I was workin’ at tha time this came out; could’ve played it a lot, but tha ignoring made me ignore it! Anyway, Kidd on tha 3rd verse, givin’ this a nice lil’ 504 feel… My Current Rating: 4.3 (generous rating, for this review only!)

18. “Dreams” Feat. Crizz Michaels
Endin’ it tha way we started: A BaseHedz Musik production; let’s see how we gon do, here… >>> Yes, that spooky vibe in tha beat ta start this off! Tha 1st verse sounds nice wit how you tryna hang in there… Sounds like a nice joint, but I’d rather you sing tha hook with that semi-risky voice effect, rather than a newbie… It’s okay on tha hook, here, but I guess it goes good for an ending song… Tha 2nd verse ain’t too bad, either; at least this ain’t that long… My Rating: 3.4

Overall: Hope you appreciate this review, as I took exactly 100 minutes outta my time to review this, when I have work tomorrow and a hectic schedule ahead of me! But, on a brighter note, this tape was pretty nice, tha whole way ‘round! Even with tha uncomfortable feelings, I was put in a great mood—kinda reminiscent of when I used to fuck wit Louisiana music! Too bad that now that this review’s over that I gon prolly forget about everything, in order for me to maintain my self-esteem. I mean, maybe, if you fly up to meet me or somethin’, shoot a video with me, etc., I can prolly restore some of my Louisiana interest. But, until then, I’ll just be “workin’,” like you’ve said before! Stay on ya grind; hope you still fuck wit me ‘cause if I took 100 minutes outta my time to review this, you already know I still fuck wit you!
