Review #163: Lil' Half Ounce a.k.a. Hollywood Half "Small Town Hype"

Reviewed on 12.19.2008 (Review No. 163)

Anotha FrankieThaLuckyDog review comin' at ya! I have an idea what I'm about to review, but I finna check my desktop again to make sure… *Checks desktop* Aight, I finna review somethin' for Lil' Half Ounce a.k.a. Hollywood Half, and his latest mixtape, "Small Town Hype." I wonder how it'll turn out. He reppin' Mississippi, but he got some Louisiana folks on here, so not only did that make me consider reviewin' this joint, but, his name, has to do wit tha trap, so I had to consider it! Now, here goes my review for Lil' Half Ounce a.k.a. Hollywood Half "Small Town Hype"! Also, I'm gonna say this on every review I do for a while: FOR ANYONE READIN' THIS: Go check out my brand new music video, "Change Tha World," featuring Tha Wennipearl (my cousin Jen)!! It's a great song (written and produced by me) and a REAL GREAT music video (directed and 100% edited by me)! | Start Time: 10:57 PM | Video Game Playing: Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (for Super Nintendo)

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me or have auto-tune in your vocals, I’m not buyin’ it!

01. "Pop 2"
Poppin' pills to start off? I hope so! How good will this mixtape start off? >>> For a sec, I thought it was Michelle Williams "The Greatest" beat, but no, WAY OFF!! This iz TIGHT for a start! Tha piano was what made me think of Michelle's song. REAL GREAT hook wit tha "pill poppin'!" GREAT 1st verse, and I LOVE how you got that Baton Rouge sound in you! Too fuckin' hot wit this shit!! Tha 2nd verse was again, on some tight shit! That hook iz just so fuckin' great!!!!! I definitely felt that 3rd verse too; tight shit to end this day!! My Rating: 4.7

02. "Stand Up" Feat. Tweety, Torch & C-Murder
Nice lil' collab goin' on here. I'm not 100% sure of who Tweety & Torch are, but, they should make this anotha hot joint! Let's find out… >>> YES, "Savage on tha beat!" I really liked that Savage intro, even though I'm still cool wit tha "…Savage track to pieces," one. Hearin' a great beat wit a female… I don't got a problem wit tha female, thank God. Here comes tha 1st verse… It's you, and you're spittin' that fuckin' raw, real shit!! I feel REAL BAD that, "everybody gettin' weak," due to all these fuckin' hurricanes and shit hittin' tha South! I'm glad I'm showin' all my luv; REAL nice 1st verse! Let's hear this dude on tha 2nd verse… A nice 2nd verse, comin' through strong! C-Murder iz doin' a great job on tha hook, makin' it great, catchy, and on point! Speakin' of him, he's on tha 3rd verse… I'm glad, "he's proud to be a black man." Too bad people like to be racist and shit, but fuck 'em, C-Murder doesn't change, and always delivers that raw shit! Great verse on his part! That female sounds hot when she sings tha "stand up!!" part!! It even ended wit tha "Savage on tha beat!" thing… Or iz that tha intro to tha next joint? Now, I'm real curious! My Rating: 4.3

03. "Push It Real Good"
Let's hope this iz just as good!! >>> Nice start, cool "whoa nah" parts. I like tha "bow, bow, bows" as well. I thought tha song gon be about pushin' weight, but, it seems to be a club banger for tha ladies. It's pretty cool sounding in my opinion. Nice 1st verse, and now, I'm hearin' tha 2nd verse… Nice lil' 2nd verse. I like tha "ya shouldaz and ya ankles" part in tha hook; catchy shit right chea. I'm glad these lengths are 4:30+ (as this iz 4:39)! I'm glad you, "got dat brocolli;" it's all about "dat green." Tha 3rd verse was great, and you just keepin' this shit consistant! My Rating: 4.2

04. "Yours Truly"
Looks like a title you don't usually see. This could be good… >>> LOL @ tha female-voiced "everything I do, I do it for you…" song; unexpected again. Tha beat sounds kinda different, so I'm just gonna listen to your rappin'… Yeah, "tell your homies 'stop tha beefin';'" I agree. Pretty nice 1st verse. Tha 2nd verse iz just as good, and I'm glad you "smoke good on a daily basis;" gotta feel good wit dat kush! Hearin' tha 3rd verse now, and tha, "separate without thinkin' of kids first," iz a true part. It sadly happens to me at times, mainly 'cause I'm not livin' on Long Island, NY anymore (since 8.17.2002). Not really tha type of song I'd really like, or jam, but, I'll give you a "lyrics rating" for this one as well. Lyrics Rating: 4.8 | My Rating: 3.9

05. "Talk To The Hand"
Oh, I love that expression, lol. Let's hear how it turns into a song… >>> Tha first second of tha beat caught my attention! I should like this, however, tha beat sounds like it's a jackin' style of tha Yung Joc joint, "It's Goin' Down," produced by Nitti. Not bad 1st verse, and catchy hook. People would hate on these lyrics 'cause in my opinion, they'd be like, "what iz he tryna prove here?" However, I don't feel like that 'cause I just listen, and enjoy tha music. Not bad 2nd verse too. Tha 3rd verse, ahh… not too much into it, as I'm slowly losin' interest. I don't like tha "dance" part that was said somewhere in it. This sounds like it would be a huge club banger… My Rating: 3.8

06. "Y'all Hating On Us"
What kinda style we got goin' on for this No. 6 joint? >>> Better beat, better sounding! Hook was pretty nice, and tha 1st verse iz not bad. Tha 2nd verse was interesting to listen to, as well. 3rd verse was nice to hear too. This was consistent, even though I didn't really quote anything; nice anthem. My Rating: 4.0

07. "Out In My City" Feat. Akon & Dolla
Looks like this gon be tha first disappointment for me… What's wit those featured people? >>> Weird/unexpected start to tha beat… Somewhat of a bad style to what tha beat just turned into… Not likin' Akon's intro part that he always repeats in every feature of his… Dolla on tha 1st verse… Am I really reviewin' somethin' of Dolla's? I thought he was done after "WTFIT?" Nothin' special… Tha hook iz okay for Akon. I rather hear someone else doin' tha hook; c'mon now. At least you're on tha 2nd verse… Well, I didn't like your verse at all. There was too much goin' on wit everything you were talkin' about. I didn't really go for that really fast style. Better people for this joint would've given me tha chance at givin' it a higher rating. My Rating: 3.3

08. "Imagine Me"
I have a feelin' I'm not goin' to like this one either… >>> Not likin' tha start wit tha beat, but I think I'm gonna like it better… You sound like Pac on this shit. It really increased my interest… Tha 1st verse was nice. Tha hook was a lil' short, but still sounded nice. A lot iz goin' on in tha 2nd verse… I like it though. Why were you, "cursed at birth?" What happened? Tha 3rd verse was pretty good too. There's 1.5 minutes left in this joint… Iz it just music? I think this music outro iz a lil' too long… My Rating: 3.6

09. "Big!!!"
How "big!!!"? >>> Nice start, but no, "inny, minny, miney, mo" (sp?), especially in tha same hook/line wit drugs, lol. I like tha, "hataz see undercovers…," part; they can't get to you! Tha verses were not bad. I really like tha hook, along wit that beat, but please, next time, no "baby rhymes" in your raps/drug rhymes. My Rating: 3.8

½time: Looks like it's off to a good/declining start. At first, that 1st joint REALLY sounded REAL HOT!! Then, tha next couple'a jointz were pretty good. Then, it got decent. Then, there was that "a lil' too mainstreamish" feature that I didn't like. Let's hopefully get back on track here 'cause that 1st joint had me goin' good.

10. "Magazine Clean" Feat. Belon, Pearlie Mac, Yung Money, J-Rhodes & Savage
LOL @ tha name, "Yung Money;" ain't that too obvious for a name? Anyway, wit 5 WHOPPIN' features, including Savage, as well as 4 people I don't know, this should be REALLY TIGHT!!! High anticipation for this to start tha 2nd ½ off right!!! >>> Only squeezed into 4:28. That's a pretty nice beat! I have a feelin' Savage did it, since he's featured on it. I knew there had to have been a female on here. That's why I said, "4 people I don't know," instead of, "4 dudes." Tha 1st verse seems anticipating… First ½ of tha 1st verse was nice. Tha 2nd ½ iz that girl on tha hook… She sounds like she's nothin' to be fucked wit; good shit! Hearin' tha 1st ½ of tha 2nd verse right now, and I'm glad that dude's rockin' Coogi. Both parts of tha 2nd verse was great. Hearin' tha 3rd verse, and I'm glad that dude's rockin' "red monkey jeans." It was a great 1st ½. Let's hear what Sav's got… That, "I'm official like signed government documents," iz "OFFICIAL!!" REAL nice part from Supa Sav!! That hook iz becomin' more catchy. My Rating: 4.5

11. "Get Snuck" Feat. Lil' Cali
I just reviewed Lil' Cali's "Warning Shots" CD right before this CD. Let's see how y'all collaborate. I hope it's real good! >>> Sounds like Cali's intro part sounds unmastered… Tha beat reminds me of a catchy, East Coast beat. It's good enough for me right now, and that lil' hook sounded like David Banner. No wonder, you and him from Mississippi. It's a catchy/good hook, and your 1st verse was nice! Cali iz on tha 2nd verse… Got that T.I. vocal-sound to him again. My Rating: 4.2

12. "I Got It"
What will this entail? >>> 4:53 on tha length? Betta be good! Tha beat intro sounds like somethin' tight wit it goin' reversed… Got that Louisiana sound in your voice, again! Tha 1st verse was pretty nice. This iz a cool beat right here. Tha hook was pretty simple, but, it definitely works here. Tha 2nd verse was pretty nice, and I'm hearin' tha 3rd verse now… I feel like this joint iz just breezin' through. I guess it's 'cause tha verses are short. It's only at 3:25, and there's just tha beat, and "aye" chants? You like your long outros, huh? Good thing this a great beat! My Rating: 4.2

13. "Get Down Or Sit Down"
I hope this sounds real nice! >>> Oh no, wtf? What's this snap shit? It's almost fuckin' 2009… NOT 2005! Now, it sounds like a jacked "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" beat; why? Tha hook sounds like Huey's voice/tha way he delivered tha "P,L&DI" joint. This iz SO fuckin' terrible!! So not for me! Okay, this shit better end ASAP!! Where's tha pill poppin'? *Cries* My Rating: 1.0

14. "I Tried To Tell Y'all"
What did you "try to tell?" >>> Off to a better/goin' hard start. That's cool that you "just left tha airpo't." Tha verses are pretty good, and that hook iz catchy/good wit tha "sell" part. Nice lil' joint here, but c'mon now, at 2:59, it's just tha beat? I mean, I know this a good beat, but, that means tha beat continues for 1:47 more of this joint. That's way too long. It should be :45 tha most. My Rating: 3.9

15. "I'm Blind"
What could this talk about? >>> Too bad "you're all alone." However, I don't think this'll be that high rated for me 'cause it's not really me. Tha 1st verse was pretty good. I'm not really into this beat, as it's too East Coastish. Tha 2nd and 3rd verse I don't have anything to say. Good lyrics once again. My Rating: 3.0

16. "I'm Suppose To Put It Down" Feat. Fiend
Another "down" song? LOL… And, what a surprise that Fiend makes a comeback. Let's hear how good this gon turn out… >>> Unexpected fast rappin' here… Even tha beat style sounds like it could remind me of tha old dayz, mixed wit today. That hook sounds real good! I neva remembered Fiend's voice, so, hearin' him now sounds real good. He sounds like he's got a great attitude wit this shit! He did a great job on his verse! This was jammin' right here, and again, a pretty long beat outro. This time, it's about 55 seconds long. My Rating: 4.3

17. "Dollar After Dollar"
LOL @ "dollar" and not "dolla." Let's hear what this brings to tha table… >>> Nice lil' underground start in tha beat… Hearin' you on this sounds like an ol' skool you. Maybe 'cause tha mix of your vocals and this beat make it sound 90'sish. Nice lil' 1st verse, and that hook iz pretty catchy for me. I like all tha "dollaz" parts. Looks like Young Trump be layin' you lots of beats, I see. Okay 2nd verse on this shit. That hook iz just too catchy wit all tha "dollaz." Not bad lil' 3rd verse. I like how you ended tha 3rd verse wit, "dollarz!" LOL. Of course, there had to be a beat outro, lol. Nah, I'm just playin' wit da sarcasm. My Rating: 3.9

18. "I Would Have Never"
I feel like it's been so long listenin' to this CD… >>> Does tha, "I would have neva traded white laces for tha red," part have to do wit somethin'? I knew it was gonna end mellow like this. I'm gettin' kinda bored wit tha flowin' on this, but again, you're spittin' some nice, real lyrics! Good job on your behalf! Sorry if I'm not too crazy about this. Oh, I thought there was gonna be a 1:10 outro beat, but nope, a 3rd verse. Still soundin' real on this shit. Don't mind tha rating, just know that I think you're spittin' REAL great lyrics! My Rating: 3.2

Overall: End Time: 12:59 AM. Well, let's see how much I can remember here… Too much of a mix. A bunch of songs I didn't really go for, a bunch of decent songs, a couple real good sounding songs, and then there were like 1-3 that were just REALLY GREAT! Once again, too much of a mix for me. I thought by after hearin' that first joint on here that we'd go really far wit my ratings, but things just got mixed. Keep doin' yo thang though, and keep in touch wit them Louisiana dudes!
