Review #229: Big Mike "Somethin' Serious"

Reviewed on 6.02.2009 (Review #229)

Frankie's back! It sux that I only did 1 review yesterday, but now, I'm back into doin' anotha one! Here's tha next review in my marathon: Big Mike "Somethin' Serious"! Start Time: 8:32 PM | End Time: 9:41 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me or have auto-tune in your vocals, I’m not buyin’ it!

01. "Commin' From The Swamp"
Startin' it off "from tha swamp," lol. I wonder what we have in stores for this Big Mike dude... >>> Sounds like a good start; really feelin' tha voice on that hook! Good 1st verse; Big Mike puttin' it down on this shit! I like tha "drop those girbauds" part around tha 1:40 part in tha 2nd verse; you know I luv hearin' about girbauds back in tha 90's! Good job on tha 2nd verse too! Tha 3rd verse iz soundin' like currently Baton Rouge type shit (like wit tha "fulla dat shit"); nice! Great song here. My Rating: 4.3

02. "World Of Mind"
Tha next joint; what to expect... >>> Slower, and less my style this time. Let's see if tha hooks can surpass tha slow hook. I hate to hear you say that you want to "put tha 9 to your top" due to thingz. That's a terrible level of self-esteem; hopefully you didn't suicide yourself! Not bad on tha verses so far, but nothin' too catchy for me. I thought there was gonna be a 3rd verse, but no. I think other people (especially regular black people) would enjoy this song 'cause of tha vibe and an everyday life of tha world picture. Fa me, it's not so exciting for me, although it ain't a bad song. My Rating: 3.4

03. "Ghetto Love"
Looks like it would go wit tha last song; lemme see, although I'm sure this one iz better fa me. >>> Ooh, "only 17" years old on this shit. Tough age, although you seem like a smart thug here, rappin' about sum good shit wit tha "sellin'" shit (all kinds of shit). This song sounds better. I feel like tha 1st verse iz neva ending, lol. Maybe it's just one verse? Too long of a verse. Nice beat too. My Rating: 3.6

04. "Creepin', Rollin'"
This looks like this gon be a much betta song fa me; I like tha title! >>> Shit, not tha kinda hook I would've wanted. I rather you be on it than females singin'. What a GREAT, GREAT, GREAT (LOL) start to tha 1st verse wit tha "what's happnin', my nigga, my nigga, my nigga, my nigga, my man" line!!! Not bad on tha 1st verse. Tha beat sounds like a nice, ol' skool club track. I just wish tha hook was better! At 2:49, I couldn't exactly spell out what tha hell you just said, lol! I really liked tha part though! You said it in like 4 seconds: "B to tha E to tha T to tha O to tha D to tha O to tha Y to tha S's..." After hearin' that part (and rewindin' it multiple times), I wound up catchin' onto this song better. Nice ending wit tha beat too! My Rating: 3.9

05. "Smoke 'Em & Choke 'Em"
A MUCH betta title here!! Really lookin' forward to this one!! >>> Tha beat again iz more on tha West Coast type, which I prolly ain't anticipating too many times (I do like 'em, but I don't know about it too much). Tha hook iz just decent, and tha 1st verse I guess did a decent/good job. Tha 2nd verse iz soundin' better here. I don't know if it was me, but this song breezed by... My Rating: 3.7

06. "Having Thangs"
A frequent, Southern title... >>> Not only that, but this song was sampled quite frequently wit that hook ("just anotha young nigga havin' thangz). Nice beat, but nothin' really fa me to talk about wit tha verses here. Good job on tha 3rd verse wit all tha shit that goes on "in society" these dayz. Although I can feel bored listenin' to tha rest of tha song (wit just tha beat and tha hook), I can see that tha beat iz catchy fa this. My Rating: 3.6

07. "On Da Real"
Nas came out wit a song around tha same time; does this have to do wit it? >>> I thought you started tha 1st verse good wit tha title. Nothin' really wit tha hook here, but tha verses sound good. Oh, now, on tha 3rd verse, you're "22" wit this shit. Now, you seem a lot older than tha one song where you said you were 17. My Rating: 3.5

½time: A decent CD so far. I don't know what else to wish for during tha remaining 7 songs... Tha best one was easily tha 1st song on here!

08. "Playa Playa"
Good title, but I can't really say how much my anticipation level iz at fa this... >>> Bad start fa me. I thought tha slow fade-in was gonna be good, but no, not this time. Hook ain't all me wit tha boring Soul style... This iz a song that's not my style at all; way too boring! Oh God, 1:48 left... Tha hook may try to be catchy wit tha title, but it doesn't work fa me. Tha rappin' iz good (as always) though. My Rating: 2.2

09. "Southern Thang"
LOL, 1:41 on tha length? Speechless... I'll let tha title explain it all... >>> I like tha "growin' up in New Orleans, Louisiana" part, but this beat iz too on tha Nas type. LOL @ "even tha gurlz wit tha tamp-ons!" Okay for one verse/a short song. Nice "biatch" ending. My Rating: 3.2

10. "Something Serious"
Tha title track (although it should say "somethin'" on this title?). What should I expect here... >>> LUV tha "tha B to tha I to tha G to tha M to tha I to tha K to tha E" part from :18 - :22!! You're REAL GREAT wit that shit!!! Great start to tha 2nd verse as "you consider yourself a joint as everyone wanna take a hit." I don't have a comment on tha hook except for tha interesting, computerized vocals, lol. Not bad of a song this time. My Rating: 3.7

11. "Get Over That"
Anotha 4:30+ length... >>> A lil' more catchy fa tha hook here. Tha hook iz a lil' better too. Tha beat iz more West Coast style too on this. Okay rappin', but I'm kinda gettin' bored at this point into tha CD... My Rating: 3.0

12. "Fire" Feat. 3-2
A feature... Hope for a "fire" song, even though my luck iz shot fa this CD. Maybe tha featured artist'll be "on fire"! >>> Wow, a gunshot in tha beginning; that reminds me of current times. I like tha "put niggaz ta sleep like soap," or whateva that part was. Tha featured person on tha 2nd verse sounds catchy; nice rhymes and voice! Tha 3rd verse iz soundin' good too fa a start. I like tha "oooh/coool/foool" part! A betta song here, although tha hook should've been better than just some sample sayin' "fire"... My Rating: 3.8

13. "Daddy's Gone" Feat. Scarface
I have a feelin' this ain't gonna be that good fa me... >>> Sounds interesting fa a start wit tha lyrics wit tha "15 year old" havin' a baby. Real great job wit tha lyrics and story on tha 1st verse; it goes good wit this beat! I like tha hook wit tha Jazz type of sound in tha beat! Scarface on tha 2nd verse, and his voice sounds good like this (Dr. Dreish). His lyrics in this are interesting, so thumbs up! Usually, I don't buy these type of songs, but this'll be a thumbs up fa me. Plus, why are there so many people (Age 18 especially) havin' kids so fast? Why do they think they a father so fast?? My Rating: 3.9

14. "On Da 1" Feat. Bun B
"Da" last "1", lol... >>> Anotha boring-type song fa me, although that random appearance from Bun B (which iz not sourced on my mp3 file) did a nice job on tha 2nd verse here. It ain't that bad of a song, but I don't know... Catchy hook, although your verses were kinda random ta me. My Rating: 3.1

Overall: Well, this CD ended. I know it won't be that bad, statistically, but I wasn't that excited about this CD. There were few things I liked, while I disliked more things. I don't know what else to say... I wonder how Big Mike'll do on otha reviewz in my marathon.
