Review #1,325: Lee Banks "P.A.P.E.R."

Reviewed on 9.30.2013 (Review #1,325)

Next up, a review for a CD I found by randomly googlin’ “DJ B-Real”: Lee Banks P.A.P.E.R., released in 2011. Start Time: 1:59 PM | End Time: 2:54 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you use tha word “swag” frequently, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes 100,000x (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it! After I was robbed by an artist who claimed they “get money,” hearin’ about how much you “got money” and anything “money” really bothers me. If you have not done business wit me before, I won’t tolerate “money” talk in tha music!!

01. “Intro”
! >>> Good speech. I dunno about “money” bein’ your “motivation.” To me, it’s capturin’ peoples’ minds. But, good way ta start this off… My Rating: N/A

02. “My Ambition”
WTH? Wow, “Ambition” in tha 1st track, two CD reviewz in a row!! Produced by The Olympicks, here… >>> Almost sounds like some updated version of Barry White’s music in tha beat, here; nice sound… Good rhymes you got goin’ on ova this beat, here; nice lil’ freestyle-like track! My Rating: 4.2 (same rating as tha other “Ambition” track, too, lol)

03. “MGB”
Mod Productions (lol @ tha “Z”) on tha beat… >>> Beat sounds nice, here… Nice job wit tha 1st verse, here… You almost sound like Yo Gotti on tha hook, here; interestin’ shit… Tha 2nd verse sounds like you got a lot goin’ on, strictly heatin’ up err-thang (streetz, drugs, whateva)! My Rating: 4.3

04. “P.A.P.E.R.”
DJ B-Real beat. I dunno what to say, but it’s after noon!! >>> Beat sounds nice, here. I like that lil’ sample in tha background, durin’ tha beginning. Spittin’ some street rhymes, here, and a perspective “before” 2039 (a.k.a., “before [you] “turn 50”)! Nice schedule on tha 2nd verse, too; sounds like you got your plans in line! My Rating: 4.5

05. “Almost Famous” Feat. Coppertop
DJ Burn One-produced beat? Interesting connect, but I believe it came from online somewhere? I dunno… I guess he’s gettin’ his name out there better? >>> Tha hook’s decent, here; looks like you’re lookin’ for fame… I see you’re on a mission fa tha quantity of “bitches,” huh? Well, I’m on a mission fa tha quantity of reviewz and number of video countdowns completed! I feel like, everytime I make a song, album, video countdown, or documentary, I feel like I just had a kid; it’s that special! Tha 2nd verse sounds nice, here; sounds like you can swerve ta this, despite it bein’ on a fuckin’-“hoes” tip, lol. Also, some of this sounds like you can hear a bit of static in tha beat, at times; wonder what dat iz…? Seemed like a while went by since this track started, but I’m up to tha 3rd verse, now, wit Coppertop… Sounds good, as he “took tha man route,” so you know he’s grown. I think I’ll always be young. I’m 25 and I still get ID’d for scratch-offs! My Rating: 3.8

06. “Shattered Dreams” Feat. Marcel P. Black
Interesting collab, here, produced by The Olympicks! >>> Anotha 2010s version of a Barry White-soundin’ beat, here; sounds good for a start, as well as your speech in tha beginning. Feelin’ your struggle on tha 1st verse, but you stayin’ consistent wit what you be doin’ (music)… Tha hook—in combination wit tha beat—sounds like a Nas-like hook; pretty interestin’… Tha 2nd verse sounds good ta go wit this track, too. I like how P comes through on tha 3rd verse, as this iz “one of those jointz that you write at night;” dark vibes! Feelin’ tha end part of P’s verse tha best; consistency! My Rating: 4.1

07. “Journey Thru My Mind”
Brotha B on tha beat. >>> I like tha ‘90s-soundin’ vibe, here, as far as dat southern music goes! Feelin’ your real-life rhymes, here! Doesn’t seem like you when I doze off into this track. Seems like a ‘90s rapper… That’s how much you’ve captured tha vibe, here! My Rating: 4.4

08. “Ridin’ Muzik” Feat. Ronny My
Interestin’… Production from DJ Burn One, here… >>> *Dies* Then again, this was first… I know this one as 2 Slugz Feat. Derty Red & Mac Soul “Down”, so I can’t really like this one too much… But, let’s see what comes outta this… Yea, I was right about DJ Burn One’s beats just bein’ online. This sounds okay wit tha rhymes, but tha hook doesn’t shine like tha 2 Slugz one… And, he used auto-tune, too! Weird! My Rating: 3.6

½time: Sounds like a good CD, so far; can’t complain. A 4.1-rated CD, currently!

09. “Laid Back” Feat. Mouse On Tha Track
Mouse on tha feature, but JB Beats (jacked beat?) on tha beat? >>> “Laidback” vibe; I’m diggin’ it! Reminds me of tha ‘90s, once again! Nice lyrics, strictly high! Wonder how Mouse gon come on a slower track? Interestin’, how he sounds! He still sounds mid-speed on tha track; in tha zone! My Rating: 4.4

10. “Working It”
A Q-Red-produced joint, here… >>> I don’t like high-pitched female samples, and this hook’s that. Beat’s a lil’ too laidback for me. At least tha previous joint was interestin’. I do like how you set tha mood wit how you sound, though. My Rating: 2.7

11. 6teen (Interlude)
Gotta hear this interlude! >>> Anotha good speech. My Rating: N/A

12. “6teen”
Brotha B on tha beat. >>> Anotha smooth joint; too many in a row? It does sound like a nice story wit this “teen” and how you sound… Sounds like heartfelt lyrics about someone else. Kinda hard to write somethin’ about someone else, right? I guess hard for me ‘cause I’ve neva dealt wit anyone that has died, in person. It’s like, why do people need ta chase tha fetty? I like chasin’ consistency! Not my kinda joint, but I’ll give you props fa tha good story, here, about this “mama.” My Rating: 3.7

13. “Life”
BJ on tha beat, but you forgot tha closing parenthasis on tha back cover, for tha production… >>> Here’s your gutta, street voice, here, comin’ through wit a nice analysis fa tha 1st verse. I’m likin’ this production from BJ, too. Wonder why I haven’t hit BJ up, yet? I prolly don’t know where ta get a hold of him… Wonder if he knows about me? A good 2nd verse, too; you’re strictly motivated on tha track… My Rating: 4.2

14. “Southside Anthem (Keep It On The Real)”
A beat from 3x Krazy, here… >>> Tha ‘90s vibe, here, sounds nice… Sounds like anotha story you spittin’? Tha hook sounds nice, here; I like that female. Oh, this iz so ‘90s gangsta rap, right chea! Tha ending sounds like tha outro to a CD, three jointz early. I like how tha beat continues ta ride… Wit 40 seconds left, tha beat went away, and now, you’re speakin’ anotha speech… Good, overall. My Rating: 4.5

15. “Still My Lady” Feat. Tremaine
Yes! Savage Trackz a.k.a. Sav Sinatra a.k.a. Savage on tha beat!! >>> Nice beat, Sav! Keepin’ tha ‘90s vibes goin’! I like how tha hook sounds, too; nice and pure! LOL @ tha “new dude” part on tha hook. Oh, ‘90s, like K-Ci & JoJo! How ‘bout some Next? Anyway, good job on gettin’ yourself in these moods, Lee! Nice beat endin’ from Sav! You can feel it!!! My Rating: 4.3

16. “Problems”
DJ Burn One on tha beat! >>> Good hook wit these unsolved “problems.” Slightly a ‘90s vibe, once again, and you’re comin’ through wit some great shit fa tha streetz, on a laidback tip. I feel ya on tha 2nd verse wit thinkin’ ‘bout “suicide.” It’s like, you can only take so much! I’m glad I have tha self-esteem I have to keep me goin’, despite all tha shit I run into, as far as dealin’ wit people goes. :( Cold ending wit tha gunshot; interestin’… My Rating: 4.0

17. “Bonus”
Produced by DJ Burn One. >>> Feelin’ tha beat you chose, here, as well… Consistent rhymes, here; good way ta end this CD! You left 42 seconds of tha beat, here; good way ta end this, once again! Strictly freestyled into a bonus track! My Rating: 3.9

Overall: Thought you did a great job wit this CD, Lee! Props on tha original, Baton Rouge producers, and I really felt all tha ‘90s vibes! I don’t see why you had to title it a money-related term; you should’ve titled it “1989” or somethin’, or somethin’ that had to represent growin’ up in tha ‘90s.
