Review #1,328: I-10 Wes "Back Like I Left Sumthin'"

Reviewed on 9.30.2013 (Review #1,328)

Reviewed a few CDs earlier and got tired. Now, I just got up from napping, and I finna review this CD, based outta Eunice, LA: I-10 Wes Back Like I Left Sumthin’, his first release, which was released on my 24th birthday, last year! Start Time: 8:27 PM | End Time: 9:34 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you use tha word “swag” frequently, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes 100,000x (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it! After I was robbed by an artist who claimed they “get money,” hearin’ about how much you “got money” and anything “money” really bothers me. If you have not done business wit me before, I won’t tolerate “money” talk in tha music!!

01. “Out Here Getting Money”
No features are listed, here, but I know this features Young Ready & Slick. I know of this, but I gon give it tha review now. >>> I like tha beat start/how tha beat sounds… Tha hook’s all nice and motivated, no matter how much I’m not a fan of tha title or not… Feelin’ your energetic vibe on tha 1st verse, strictly holdin’ it down in tha crowd/party! Oh wait, no features, here? This tha original, original version, lol… Here you are on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through, still feelin’ good… My Rating: 4.3

02. “Put It Out There”
>>> I like how this sounds; catchy hook, here, as well as that southern, 337-like beat! Almost sounds like an unlisted feature, too, on tha hook! Here’s tha 1st verse, and it’s soundin’ pretty nice… Short, but sweet lil’ joint! My Rating: 4.5

03. “Big Dog”
>>> Of course, I know this one from tha lil’ CD I made for you, only there’s no feature, here. Still, tha beat’s nice and energetic, as well as you and tha “big dog” title/hook! Tha 1st verse’s good, strictly hyped-up! I have to say, when you said, “I dunno what kinda drugs you on, but I’m glad you like all that hyped-up shit,” or whateva, I take that as a compliment. It’s tha mystery of my Asperger’s syndrome, and why I luv Louisiana outta nowhere. But basically, I just luv tha vibes, no matter where I’m located! Anyway, tha 2nd verse sounds good, here, too! Ewe, seven seconds of silence at tha end! My Rating: 4.7

04. “Ride For Me” Feat. Lady Savage
What? Tha feature’s listed here? Weird… I guess that’s ‘cause I know tha other versions with people on ‘em, instead of these solo versions that were on here… >>> Feelin’ tha spooky sounds in tha beginning; nice and dark fa tha south! Random male singin’ on tha hook? This startin’ ta sound internet rapper-like fa me, now, which iz still cool, but seems more underground… I’m feelin’ how you comin’ through on tha 1st verse. I dunno, it’s just somethin’ in your voice and how motivated you are… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse, and it sounds nice, as you’re comparin’ this bitch to an “iPhone,” lol. Lady Savage’s on tha 3rd verse, and she sounds good…; can’t complain… Now, this hook’s startin’ ta sound like somethin’ I’d undergroundly—lol @ that word I just made up—sing, years ago, when I was more proud of my Louisiana connection. My Rating: 4.3

05. “Miss Mary”
>>> Feelin’ tha old school-soundin’ beat influence, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse, and it’s pretty good wit how you comin’ through wit it. Tha hook sounds nice wit this female singin’… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse, and it sounds good, too; not much fa me ta say… LOL @ tha cold, random beat ending… My Rating: 4.2

06. “Good Times” Feat. Hurricane Shane
Wonder who this Shane dude iz… >>> Anotha beat vibe I’m likin’! We got some listed singing, this time, and this dude’s soundin’ good. Ooh, sounds like some throwback-kinda meanin’ on this hook; gotta feel tha “good times!” I miss tha dayz when I first started gettin’ inta Louisiana music (which, 11 dayz from now’ll be six years—can’t believe it)! Slowly discoverin’ artists, but brainwashed by managers… Before people dissed me and most importantly, before gettin’ robbed! Life seemed so innocent and fun… I still try and have a lil’ bit of fun outta it, now, by not givin’ up! Anyway, tha 1st verse from you sounds good, here… Tha 2nd verse sounds good, too; glad I’m connected wit you, and keep it up! A lil’ extra shit toward tha end from Hurricane Shane, comin’ through wit a sing-rap verse fa tha 3rd verse… Likin’ tha slang and southern vibe! My Rating: 4.4

07. “I Want It All” Feat. Lil’ Derrick
Different Derrick? I know, this can’t be tha one that died a while ago… >>> Tha hook sounds catchy, here; simple, but catchy. Also, tha beat’s pretty regular and nice ta rap on… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse, and it sounds like you’re havin’ a good time. As long as tha “kush lit,” you know, you gotta win, right? We got this Derrick on tha 2nd verse, and it sounds like some regular rappin’. Iz this Derrick from Eunice? My Rating: 4.0

08. “One Night”
>>> This beat’s a lil’ laidback and dry, but you’re still interestin’ wit your rhymes… At least this was short and sweet, though. My Rating: 3.8

09. “No Friends” Feat. Lil’ Derrick
>>> This also sounds okay, as far as tha beat and rhymes… Really, this iz kinda randomness fa me, but it’s not bad. My Rating: 3.5

10. “Motivation” Feat. Slick
>>> Even though it’s a “money” song/hook, I like tha spelling on tha hook: “M-O-T-I-V-A-T-I-O-N!” Hearin’ tha 1st verse, and it’s you, comin’ through as a “dog” who needs “a treat!” Nice line, and good vibe on this beat, here… Hearin’ Slick on tha 2nd verse, and thumbs up ta this “bitch born in 1982.” That’s a good year for people I know in BR! Good verses, here… My Rating: 4.2

½time: A 4.2-rated CD, so far; I’m enjoyin’ this! A lotta good vibes, here. You stay on your consistent shit, Wes!

11. “Coast To Coast”
>>> Nice upbeat beat, and you got shit on lock wit this verse, here… This more on tha hoes “shakin’” it “from coast to coast” tip, lol. LOL @ tha fade-out ending… My Rating: 4.1

12. “Freestyle”
It’s really a compound word… >>> Was like, “Eminem ‘The Way I Am’ beat?” Then again, I just realized tha title… Good rhymes, but I don’t fuck wit jacked-beat songs tha best… My Rating: 3.6

13. “Freestyle 2”
Okay…? >>> Gross; sounds like a bootlegged version of Kanye West & Syleena Johnson’s “All Falls Down”, here… Rhymes are okay, but once again, I don’t take these jacked-beat songs too serious… Also, not really feelin’ some of tha lyrics, here. My Rating: 1.8

14. “Freestyle 3” Feat. Lil’ Derrick
>>> Again, ’04? “How We Do” beat… Kinda boring wit these money-related lyrics; not too into this, either… Lil’ Derrick sounded a lil’ betta wit his rhymes… My Rating: 2.1

15. “Gone For A Minute” Feat. Dirty White
>>> A beat that sounds like an online beat, mixed wit that typical soundin’ of today’s southern rap… Ehh, where’s tha Louisiana/DJ Titanik-soundin’ beats like tha beginning of this CD? This okay, as far as tha hook goes… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse, and it sounds good that you have tha energetic side to you. But, my interest ain’t all tha way there, like it was wit tha songs earlier in this CD. Dirty White’s on tha 2nd verse, lettin’ y’all know that he “a mellow-type nigga,” so don’t get him started, lol. Nice, but kinda not that special, overall… My Rating: 3.4

16. “Fuck You”
>>> Okay, this beat’s more up my alley! Huh? Tha volume’s super quiet durin’ tha verse? Not good! Remember my labelin’ technique, Wes: I even fix all my songs’ volumes! Fixed at least, prolly, 100,000 volumes, lol! Anyway, good rhymes in tha 1st verse, here. Also, listenin’ to tha hook, and it sounds nice wit your middle finger-like attitudes. However, how ‘bout some more attitude? Like, maybe, get anotha dude in tha background, chantin’, “Fuck you,” like on some Lil’ Jon-type shit? Hearin’ tha 2nd verse, and it sounds nice, here… LOL, randomly faded out and ended. My Rating: 3.9

17. “All My Gs” Feat. Dirty White & Slick
>>> I’m likin’ this beat, includin’ tha intensity it brings durin’ tha hook; like tha ‘oh no’ vibe, lol… Also, a mysterious lady on tha hook; feelin’ her! Here’s tha 1st verse, and it’s good; sounds a lil’ off-beat, at times… Here’s tha 2nd verse from Mr. White, comin’ through wit his “scandalous” lifestyle, lol… Well, that’s what’s heard through tha grapevine. He mainly comin’ through wit his motivation, and it’s pretty nice on this track… Slick’s on tha 3rd verse, here, comin’ through, on his grind… Yea, “off tha po’ch,” while y’all were sittin’, watchin’ TV… That’s kinda me, only it’s doin’ reviewz and networking. Random “Bad-Ass Yella Boy” shit toward tha end of this (which that was also in tha beginning, too). My Rating: 4.2

18. “Reppin’ My Block”
>>> LOL, ’06 sample, here, wit Sean P (from tha YoungBloodZ) and tha “reppin’ my block” shit from “Snap Yo Fingers”! Back when I was helpin’ out TVT Records artists, gettin’ calls from Pitbull! “Good times,” like you say! Feelin’ how you comin’ through on tha 1st verse, strictly “reppin’” dat 337—Eunice! Tha 2nd verse iz good, too; make sure y’all “on dat Grey Goose,” though, lol. “E-U-N-I-C-E”in’ tha ending, lol. A 49-second beat outro, here… My Rating: 4.1

19. “Can’t Hold Me Down” Feat. Lady Kym
Her name has a “y” in it… >>> Oh yea, this joint from tha CD I made for you. Ironically, you put it near tha end like I kinda did (where, I put it at tha actual end). I’m feelin’ this, as tha both of y’all are holdin’ “down” tha hook, includin’ this beat, which can make you think this was a mainstream song. Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse, and it sounds like you losin’ a lotta things, such as “trust” and “luck,” here. Kinda how I feel, now-a-dayz, wit thangz… Tha 2nd verse sounds good, too. You really luv “money,” huh, wit this “mission”? Tha 3rd verse sounds good, too; one of tha longer songs on this CD, here… My Rating: 4.2

20. “Big Dog (Remix)” Feat. Lady Savage
Now, tha feature’s listed? Longer, so I guess it’s a new version/tha version I know…? >>> Same as tha previous version, so temporarily, I’ll put “remix”, here. To add to tha review, we got Lady Savage on tha 2nd verse, here, comin’ through wit consistent rhymes. I like her on tha track ‘cause technically, “she” iz tha one that “want a big dog!” My Rating: 4.7

21. “Out Here Getting Money (Radio Edit)”
Wow, been a long minute since I saw a radio edit included in a CD… See #1 fa tha review!

Overall: Nice CD, Wes! Felt most of it, except tha freestyles. But, keep up tha good work!
