Review #125: Natureboy Rowe "Da Show 2: Encore"

Reviewed on 10.03.2008 (Review No. 125)

It's ya boy FrankieThaLuckyDog here; somewhat recoverin' from a cold/sore throat. I'm about to get into a review and just like wit 2 weeks ago, it's for a birthday! My boy Natureboy Rowe's 24 today so happy birthday to him! I HOPE his b-day goes REAL good! Four dayz ago, I got his latest mixtape, "Da Show 2: Encore", in tha mail. Because of college and his birthday bein' today, I waited to do it today (in honor of his birthday). And I'm playin' NOTHIN' but Natureboy Rowe's songs today as well! Now then, here goes my review for Natureboy Rowe "Da Show 2: Encore"! Start Time: 4:23 PM | Video Game Playing: Secret Of Mana (for Super Nintendo) (on my computer)

Disclaimer:
I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me or have auto-tune in your vocals, I’m not buyin’ it!

01. "Intro"
Let's see what you have cooked up this time… >>> Heard this in one of your blog videos. I feel it. Good intro to start thingz off. Sounds like "I'ma D-Boy" beat iz at tha end… My Rating: 3.8

02. "I'm NB"
Let's hear how good you rappin' ova that Wayne & Birdman beat! >>> I like tha spelling out in tha hook. Soundin' great so far but I think Wes Fif did it best wit his "G-Boy" rendition. Good 1st verse though. A nice 2nd verse too. Not bad for this beat. My Rating: 3.9

03. "This Is Rowe"
Last joint had tha "NB" part and now here's tha 2nd part of your name, "Rowe". Let's see what's up wit this… >>> This should be interesting and different since it's on tha "Party People" beat. Feelin' that hook so far. Likin' you on this beat than tha "I'ma D-Boy" beat. I like how you spelled "bitch-asses" in tha 2nd verse. Feelin' it. My Rating: 4.1

04. "That's Rowe"
Anotha song wit your name in it… >>> I was gonna guess "That's Right" beat by Big Kuntry & T.I. but no, "Cash Flow" beat. Tha title must sound good on this. Your verse iz real good. Definitely feelin' it, especially tha beginning of it. I'm feelin' your rendition of "Cash Flow", especially tha same way T-Pain originally had it. At 1:35-1:36, it sounded a lil' off. I'm still feelin' it. My Rating: 4.3

05. "Lift Up" Feat. Dolla
What did you do to his song? I don't think I heard his song BTW. >>> Yeah neva heard but tight so far. I like tha "Plies" part in tha beginning. Feelin' this. Good 1st verse. Great shit and I'm likin' tha mixin' at tha end, which iz what a nice mixtape sounds like. I can't wait to start producing mine!! My Rating: 4.2

06. "When I Roll Up"
I see tha "produced by Cybersapp" part in tha mp3 folder you gave me (yeah, you sent this to me before I got tha CD so that's how I have tha IDs; I do have tha tracklisting but I'm not using it). Let's see this original track… >>> Nice original beat and great rhymes so far. I like tha screwed hook. Glad you're wearin' "LRG." Likin' tha 2nd verse too. Like tha ending and I like tha dude on tha phone wit tha phone call at tha end. My Rating: 4.2

07. "Stop & Pay Attention"
This should be interesting. Anticipated to hear it! >>> I'm feelin' that beat and once again, you're spittin' good shit on this. Good hook and nice track. My Rating: 4.1

08. "My Wheels Clean"
I always felt tha beat to this and that sample wit Bow Wow on tha hook. Tha rhymes were always real nice and it's a classic to me. Nice lil' "encore" part at tha end. My Current Rating: 4.6

09. "Got Bang" Feat. Pimp Killa Thug
Featured artist gives me anticipation. Let's see… Maybe this was in your v-logs? >>> Yeah, this iz a v-log song. I like all those "bang" parts in tha hook. This iz a better beat than a bunch of tha beats (original ones) on here. Pimp Killa Thug soundin' good so far. LOL @ tha "hang like tha titties on ya grandmama" line!! Really liked that! Good "hit ya block like a parade…" line too! Feelin' this joint more than a bunch of tha jointz on here so far! My Rating: 4.4

10. "It's Nothing" Feat. All-Star
Way too old beat. I fuckin' hated 2007 so no need to bring it back up on this mixtape! That's All-Star (Cash Money) on tha hook (wit that great sample w/e it iz). Tha "konvict" intro thing scared me almost. I didn't know what to expect. It's tha "9mm" beat. Hook sounds pretty good (it sounds like somethin' else – oh that "ass" song by T.I. & Wyclef Jean "You Know What It Is"). There was a nice sample during tha hook too. Sounded good. My Current Rating: 3.9

11. "I Get Money"
This shouldn't've been on here. Beat iz too fuckin' old and more Pop than Cyndi Lauper (real talk 'cause her CD went nowhere on Pop stations sadly). *Sarcastic voice* *DING DING DING* And as Pink would say, "who knew", lol. Like that line "I'm so Wu-Tang, I got method, man." Lol @ that "Straight To The Bank" rendition. At least it was a lot better than 50's! You don't like Nick Cannon, lol? That was a random callout. Lol @ tha "Dallas Texas love" (singin') at tha end! I liked that. My Current Rating: 3.5

12. "Like Money"
>>> It's good that you made this and I'm likin' it so far. However, there was already 2 songs wit like tha same title (Three 6 Mafia and Yung Ralph). I don't know about puttin' it right after "I Get Money" 'cause it's pretty much tha same topic. I didn't like that auto-tone beginning part at all… Simple hook but I really like it. My Rating: 4.0

13. "Gotta Get It"
That Tracman dude on tha beat did a real nice job on producin' this. Tha hook iz real nice and tha lyrics in tha verses were nice (as always). My Rating: 4.4

14. "Ripper"
Now because I know Shawty Redd didn't produce that for you, I'm gonna say it's a jacked beat. Let's see how you did on it. >>> Yeah, you shouldn't've had tha "produced by Shawty Redd" on tha ID on tha mp3 file 'cause this iz tha "Drifter" beat from him. Didn't like tha auto-tone effect in tha beginning… Not bad; decent. My Rating: 3.6

½time: It's 5:29 PM. I gotta go see my 18 year old brother (who's in tha Detention Center right now) wit my stepdad. I'll be back around 7:15ish. Not bad mixtape so far. I'm more into Louisiana music so that's prolly why I don't really sky-high tha ratings that much but I still got respect for you. >>> Aight I'm back at 7:13 PM. Continuing wit what I was sayin', like wit tha "I Get Money" and tha joint wit Allstar (how they shouldn't've been on here). I see that you got raps over "Cash Flow" and "Party People" (which were from this year). Those other 2007 jacked beat ones didn't quite fit onto this mixtape. It's a different story from tha 2006, 2007 songs that are originally done by you: those neva get old.

15. "Highsider"
I thought that said "slider" when I read it but it's a "sider" (whateva that iz). Let's see… >>> Not likin' tha G-Unit beat and tha gay auto-tone in tha beginning. Wow it took 38 seconds for tha auto-tone shit to go away? Too long! Didn't like all tha auto-tone shit that was goin' on. Just an okay verse on this. I've heard it from you plenty of times: "don't drink, don't smoke" and tha "ha ha ha ha; laughin' to tha bank." Good thing this iz only 2 minutes AND 4 seconds long! SOOO not for me! My Rating: 1.3

16. "Lollipop Flow"
How weird that I actually heard this before I got into "Lollipop". I mean, I heard "Lollipop" once but when I heard this, I didn't even remember what "Lollipop" sounded like. But I was able to take this auto-toneness 'cause this was like tha 1st time I heard you use it. "Leavin' someone wheezin'" iz pretty powerful so that's what happens when you spit some rhymes like this. I thought this was a great rendition of "Lollipop". Too bad when I put it in my "Favorite Rap and R&B Songs of March 2008" Youtube video (30,000+ views so far), it didn't get tha proper exposure like "Lollipop". That's when I respect versions like this 'cause shit like "Lollipop" would blow up too big and this would do nothin'. It ain't fair to me. My Rating: 4.0

17. "Flow"
What kinda "flow"? >>> Let's see watz good wit this "Certified" beat. I think I heard it in your v-log. This was a great flow here. Good lyrics again on this. My Rating: 3.9

18. "Ain't A Pu$$y" Feat. Southpaw
Tha ID on tha computer must not've liked tha "$" symbol 'cause it cut it off. Anyway, let's hear this one… >>> Anotha G-Unit type of beat. What's wit tha "gun?" I mean, I know you got nice lyrics and great rhymes. I can't picture you wit a gun though. A lil' too rough for you… I don't really like tha style of tha beat unfortunately. Southpaw had a pretty nice part. I was feelin' tha last 11 seconds wit tha acapella until you brought up anotha "gun" line. This was decent but a –1.0 on tha rating 'cause of tha unexpected "gun" lyrics. My Rating: 2.2

19. "Da Dopeman"
Hope this'll be better and I betta not hear "I was dealin' ___" or "sellin' ___" 'cause that'll be anotha deduction! >>> I like tha beat so far. Good history but a "dopeman" type of song ain't up your alley for me. Actual rappers that trap do a lot better songs. This was decent though; a lil' short. My Rating: 3.6

20. "Keep It Rocking"
King Stunna iz a beast on tha beats! I always thought you put a lot of effort into this song 'cause it sounds great how u made it. I always really liked that bridge part "loooooooook at meeeeeeeeeeee, I'm 100 from my headdddd to my feeeeeeeeeet…" That whole part was, and still iz tha shit. It's a hood anthem still. Great check-in from King Stunna around tha "look at me" part! My Current Rating: 4.3

21. "Str8 Stunt"
I had a feelin' this was gonna be after "Keep It Rocking" 'cause tha sample comes from "Keep It Rocking"! They were backwerdz on tha "Stackz: It's Nothing" when this was before it instead. Nice beat. Real nice line wit tha "powerline wire." That's a REAL NICE hook/sample on tha hook! Yup this another great joint right here! BTW, no more of that "laughin' to tha bank" line. 50 did enough wit it. You're usin' it too much. "Dougie"'s NEXT!!! My Current Rating: 4.3

22. "My Dougie (Remix)" Feat. Lil' Wil
You forgot tha "remix" in tha ID. Anyway, always liked this joint and I couldn't play tha original anymore 'cause I saw that you were on tha remix. I got tha remix from you and Word Of South's board and it helped it stay on my playlist. I thought you did a good job on this and wit Lil' Wil, it was great! My Current Rating: 4.5

23. "Sippin' On This"
Looks like a newbie. Slantize on tha beat so what's gonna happen? >>> Looks like we got tha best beat on here! Pretty good lyrics so far but that beat iz real tight! Really feelin' tha darkness in it and that hook iz great too! What's wit tha "trap" lyrics? I thought you don't do that shit? I don't get tha lyrics that don't describe you ("sippin' on this Hennessy"). No more of tha "niggaz think I trap, naw all I do iz rap" line too. You played it out in your songs. It was very tight except for when I was confused. A -0.5 to tha rating on tha confusion. My Rating: 4.1

24. "Gone Happen"
Which version iz this? I'll guess tha original. >>> It's tha original; good. I always really liked that "and I'm hot dawg so you niggaz betta catch up" line a whole lot! A nice original song here. My Current Rating: 4.2

25. "Flow 2"
Anotha one I see… Let's see what's up: >>> It's that Rich Boy "D-Boyz" beat. This beat iz from 2005 but it's acceptable 'cause it ain't poppy! Sounds pretty good so far. WHY did you take tha "Gone Happen" hook and put it in this??? You really need to stop jackin' your own lyrics 'cause they sound repetitive! My Rating: 3.0

26. "You Ain't Fly"
What's this one? >>> Sounds good for tha "Can't Tell Me Nothin'" beat but c'mon, it's almost '09. No need for that poppy beat. Good rhymes. My Rating: 3.5

27. "Stronger Flow"
I thought I was gonna have anticipation for this but until I thought it was gonna be over Kanye West's beat, I wanna puke! Very low anticipation level for this!! >>> Yup, bad so far. It only got worse wit tha "Rowe been chillin', __________, what more can I say…" line that you said before. Actually, some of tha lyrics were gettin' better throughout this so I'll have to give it some credit. My Rating: 2.6

28. "I Know"
>>> A decent song here. Nice and slow but pretty good lyrics. Lyrics got better wit tha 2nd verse, especially at tha end of it wit tha "every lyric from my tooth" or w/e it was; great. My Rating: 3.7

29. "Outro (Last Words)"
So no "Standing Ovation" on here? That sounded more like an "encore" type of song in tha beginning when I heard it. It should've been on here instead of some of tha songs I didn't like. Let's hear what you got to say! >>> I can't really say "best mixtape in Dallas in a minute" 'cause you had a lot better ones previously (like tha "Texas Sensation" one). A lil' annoyed wit tha "Wu-Tang/Method Man" line again as you used that in tha song wit Allstar. Good lyrics for this ending song though; nice and smooth. Pretty good song to end tha CD off wit. My Rating: 3.9

Overall: End Time: 8:34 PM. Well, this wasn't tha best thing I reviewed. A lot of tha reviews I have done before this one have been better. I mean, tha best songs were pretty much most of tha ones I knew in tha past. There weren't that many original songs (I know you gave me tha situation wit tha DJs and shit like that but it's your music so you should have control over it). Someone that I review, J-Burna, drops a BRAND NEW mixtape like once every 3 months and they're like 80% original beats and nothin' iz from another mixtape of his. I mean, it's good that you had "My Wheels Clean" (surprised it was tha best song on here) and shit like "Keep It Rocking" on here but when it came to tha "jacked beat" songs that were brought back onto here, that was a disappointment. But Natureboy, like always, I wish you tha best of thangz and I hope you keep doin' yo thang. No more jackin' your lyrics a lot and no more shit about havin' gunz in your possession. Hope you had a great birthday; my day was aight today.
