Review #1,115: DJ Scream & Rick Ross "Forever"

Reviewed on 1.13.2012 (Review #1,115)

My 2nd review of 2012/1st hip-hop one! Ironically, it’s DJ Scream & Rick Ross Rich Forever? Usually, I wouldn’t be reviewin’ this kinda shit (non-Louisiana, fake artist, mainstream, etc.), but thanx to services, I’m here! I don’t think it’ll go over too bad, but if it’s a mixtape, it better sound like a mixtape! Start Time: 5:09 PM | End Time: 6:49 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you use tha word “swag” frequently, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes 100,000x (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. “Holy Ghost” Feat. Diddy
No production, so it must be a jacked beat? Title’s got me like, “huh?” >>> Actually, nice beat, whateva this iz, for a start…; Diddy sounds kinda random to be a part of this? Even though I won’t believe anything Rick says, I have to say that this iz pretty nice… “I got that…; I got that…;” yawn, yawn, yawn… How ‘bout, ‘I got a condition no one usually has, when it comes to tha rap business?’ Lucky, for me, that’s me: Diagnosed wit tha Autism/Asperger’s syndrome! Guess Rick Ross helped Meek Mill wit his flow, or vice versa? Everyone nearly sounds tha same, now… Soundin’ good in tha 2nd verse, too, you know…? LOL, a ‘mixtape’, and there’s a cold ending, plus about 7-8 seconds of silence at tha end? Sounds more like an ‘album’ to me… My Rating: 3.8

02. “High Definition”
A Saint Denson production, here. I was introduced to my Advanced Media Production class, yesterday, and I heard that we’re takin’ it to 20:9 ratio, soon! >>> Another nice skit in tha beginning… Sounds pretty hot for tha production, so far; surprised dat I’m dealin’ wit this, right now… It’s not like it’s in tha middle of a Louisiana rap compilation; then, I’d not take it serious! Rick Ross only wishes he’d pay for all these things he’s rappin’ about in tha 1st verse; Ricky Ross, tha crack dealer, doesn’t appreciate Rick Ross! So much fairytale shit, as always! Tha 2nd verse ain’t too bad, so far; a lil’ too much fairytale rhymes, but whateva, it’s jammin’ ‘cause of tha beat, plus, it doesn’t sound annoyin’… My Rating: 3.9

03. “MMG Untouchable”
Accordin’ to tha back cover, it’s a double production collaboration between Arther MC Arther & Boi-1da, but on tha mp3 info, it says, “Prod. By Beat Billionaire”? Maybach Music Group anthem, I assume? >>> Sounds like a car wit tha beginning of tha beat, or a slowed-down vinyl; catchy shit, once again! I feel like shit’s only gettin’ better and better! Sounds like random shit he spittin’, here; it mainly sounds hot, once again, ‘cause of tha beat! It’s really like, fuck everything else goin’ on, here! Only one verse, but everything was good for me… Was that DJ Scream at tha end? Doesn’t usually sound like that? I guess I’ve been absent from tha mainstream for too long (goin’ on 1,000 dayz in a few months). My Rating: 4.1

04. “Yella Diamonds”
Now, some Beat Billionaire beats… or, iz it continued? Confused, but let’s see what tha next joint sounds like… >>> Sounds like Birdman in tha beginning? Unsourced feature? Not sure, yet, but yea, anotha ‘yada-yada-yada’-soundin’ hook wit tha lyrics, but this sounds like some hot shit! When I hear a beat like this, I think of 007 and tha snow, in tha Nintendo 64 game! Speakin’ of which, it’s pretty cold and snowy, here in Northeast PA; it’s about 23 degrees, but feels 16 degrees less (7 degrees)!! Yada-yada-yada-yada-yada-yada-yada, Ross…; keep this yada-yada-yada shit goin’ ‘cause I’m mainly only payin’ attention to tha beat! Sounds like he’s jackin’ someone’s flow when he says, “nigga,” at tha end of a bunch of lines, in a row, on tha 2nd verse… ROFL, where’s tha extra emotions comin’ outta in tha 3rd verse? Yea, like Rick Ross’s emotional! Kinda gettin’ sick of hearin’ tha “Maybach Music” lady tag throughout tha songs; can we go back to when people weren’t beastin’ on tags? :td My Rating: 3.8

05. “Fuck ‘Em” Feat. 2 Chainz & Wale
Produced by Academy Productionz. I neva heard tha 2 Chainz dude, before, so how will three people on a song do for this mixtape? >>> Startin’ off wit another hot beat… Damn, tha tag, again! Rick Ross’s first, and really, “Dubai, I been there”? Sounds phony; can’t picture why certain rappers would want to go to certain UK areas… Nothin’ annoyin’, but I still can’t take these rhymes serious… Tha hook sounds pretty nice; gotta luv stickin’ tha middle finga up ta those hatin’! Time for this 2 Chainz dude… Sounds a lil’ like Titi Boy from Playaz Circle wit tha flow, and it sounds like some trap rhymes, in tha beginning, wit tha “chirp”? Kinda yada-yada, but I can deal wit 2 Chainz more than Rick Ross’s fantasy rhymes… Time for some Wale, on tha 3rd verse… Good flow; definitely owned tha song against Ross & Chainz. Startin’ ta sound real nice toward tha 3:42 mark! Nice job on tha 2nd ½ of tha 3rd verse, Wale! Glad to hear some different voices, finally, than just Rick Ross! My Rating: 4.3

06. London Skit
LOL, here we go wit tha UK, again… >>> Gettin’ 40+ MPH wind, tonight… This iz a nice skit to break thangz up… My Rating: N/A

07. “Rich Forever” Feat. John Legend
DVLP beat; I think this iz gonna sound a lil’ too mainstream, and not somethin’ that ‘goes hard’… Also, 5:05 on tha length, for a mixtape? Not lookin’ forward… >>> Semi-nice start, between John Legend and tha beat, but sounds boring, too, ‘cause of how long it’s takin’ for tha 1st verse to start… *yawn* Tha 1st verse sounds like an intro/speech, instead of rappin’… Wow, boring-ass shit goin’ on; 2:19 in and nothin’s switchin’ up? :confused Finally, tha beat changed, a lil’, at 2:45, smh… “Sold dope”? Mr. Correctional Officer, lemme see tha pics…; lemme see tha pics!!! “A 100 mill ain’t enough;” fa real? “I got 100 women;” fa real? What if I said that I had zero, so far? I’m sure you’d beg ta do business wit me, though! LOL @ how much shorter tha 2nd verse was from tha 1st verse; felt like 4x shorter! I have to say, at least this wasn’t soft, but it was too long and boring, at times. My Rating: 3.3

08. “Triple Beam Dreams” Feat. Nas
That’s J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League (not just “Justice League” on tha ID) on tha production! A Nas collaboration? Jackin’ his “dreams” title/topic idea? >>> If these lyrics were true, they’d be pretty tight, but because they’re possibly fake, they only sound tight, as a song… Nas on tha 1st verse, and it goes ta show you that he can own a fake rapper by tha neck! Thumbs up for tha consistent, above-paced rhymes, for tha hoodz! Tha hook ain’t too bad, includin’ this nice beat… “Rule #1: I can’t do business wit a stranger;” well, for me, it’s more like, ‘If you’re born after 1988, I might have bad luck wit you, wit business, ‘cause of how young you are; if you’re born in tha 1970s, I’m sure I’ll have great luck wit you!” I mainly say dat ‘cause I had a rapper from Baton Rouge, Louisiana visit me, do business wit me, and more, for bein’ born in tha magical ‘70s!! Rhymes from Ross are aight, here; it only proves to be a good song, overall… My Rating: 4.0

09. “Mine Games” Feat. Kelly Rowland
Like mind? Not sure if I can anticipate someone who’s now a part of tha dance/house music world on a ‘mixtape’… But, wit Arther MC Arther on tha beat, how will it really go? >>> Poppy start, almost soundin’ like a baby’s crib and its sound effects? :confused Even though I’m lackin’ interest, tha vibe sounds like tha good life, at least… Yea, this iz for tha mind, wit a special spelling on tha ID, lol. Kelly sounds good on tha hook, but c’mon, I thought this was a mainstream male’s new soundtrack? “I put tha weed out”? How does dat mix wit this pop sound, lol? Ewe, weird background vocals from Ross on tha bridge… Overall, too poppy of a song for me, especially for me to take serious, 2012 style! But, I can see this bein’ a follow-up single, or somethin’… My Rating: 2.9

10. “New Bugatti” Feat. Diddy
A DRich beat, but anotha Diddy collaboration? Weird…? >>> Sounds kinda gangsta for a “pool party,” based off this nice beat start, lol…; prolly could’ve had a “pool party” to tha previous song’s beat. A lil’ “Tupac Back” feel, here, only less tight ‘cause Meek Mill’s not a part of this. ROFL @ tha Diddy on tha hook; so random, especially to ‘go hard’ on a mixtape! He sounds perfect for mainstream, but mainstream mixtapes, lol? Oh wait, continuin’ for tha 2nd verse, too? This iz so odd, lol! LOL @ Diddy smokin’, too; so anti-“Mo Money, Mo Problems”, huh, lol? Oh, so tha hook’s actually Ross? Now, I hear it; not bad, but I felt interested wit this joint… My Rating: 3.8

½time: Well, it’s 5:53 PM, and I’m about to take a break ‘cause I gotta eat dinner (pea soup). I won’t add tha time I spent eating to tha time spent on tha review, but I have to say, nothin’ too bad, so far, except #9 (#7 had a lil’ bit of a stumble, too). Currently, this CD’s worth a 3.8 for me, but we’ll see how it holds up. *Eats dinner* *Finishes dinner* Okay, it’s 6:12 PM, and now, I got some Behind The Music Remastered: Weird Al Yankovic on in tha background—viewing through my dark window—as well as playing Super Mario RPG (for Super Nintendo) on tha computer, too.

11. “Keys To The Crib” Feat. Styles P
A The Inkredibles production. Previously, I said one of tha songs sounded like a baby’s “crib”; hope this “crib” ain’t too poppy/babyish, for me… >>> Sounds like a regular, mainstream song, wit tha production and how tha rhymes sound… LOL, threatenin’ Ross on tha 1st ver—lol, referencin’ “Meek Millz,” huh? Okay, can I hear him on here, please? Really, “losing [your] religion”? You’re not R.E.M., Ross! Ross on tha 2nd verse, too; tryna make it a big house? You sound so ‘automatic’ wit your rhymes (how everything comes so easy), but really, life’s not perfect, Ross! Yay, Styles on tha 3rd verse; interestin’ collaboration, and how you chose him ta be a part of a song… His rhymes are okay, but mainly, tha consistent flow interests me. My Rating: 3.6

12. “Last Breath” Feat. Meek Mill & Birdman
DRich doin’ anotha beat, but Meek Mill’s a part of tha feature! Almost four years ago, his collaboration wit Philly rapper, Joey Jihad, “Bossman”, became my most-played song of all time (613 plays in one year), which also marked a moment, for me, when it was tha 1st song I asked someone what it was (back on March 13, 2008 @ 5:01 PM)! Ahh, tha good-ass dayz of ’08; tryna make ’12 be as good, only wit my evolutionary self! >>>  Nice start goin’ on… Tha hook sounds pretty good; “ballin’,” meanin’, spittin’ as much fake/automatic shit as possible? Good song, so far; nothin’ bad, but shit I want to give pluses for… Ooh, Meek Mill on tha 2nd verse; jackpot for non-Louisiana artists!! Rhymes were 10x better back in tha ’08 dayz…; even though this iz nice, tha lyrics are way too mainstream for me to love… LOL, Ross on tha 3rd verse, too? Oh, wait, tons of length, here (5:24); luckily, this ain’t borin’, but I didn’t think I needed to hear anotha Ross verse on this song… Even though Birdman’s from Louisiana, his late 2000s perspective iz non-Louisiana, for me; you know how it iz wit that repetitive, mainstream shit… No comment on Birdman’s rhymes, since they’re usually neva anything special, but—lol, he said, “rounds;” lay off tha underground slang, Birdman! Anyway, it’s tha song that sounds good, not always tha rhymes, here… My Rating: 4.2

13. “I Swear To God”
Beat Billionaire on tha beat, again…; if Ross’s swearin’ “to God,” I hope he ain’t lyin’ one bit!! >>> Nice beat, but smh for tha title, in your opinion, and my perspective, ‘cause it sounds like a bunch of threats than real shit… :( Usually, threats are an ‘erected love’ for future fantasies, smh; I know how it goes! I’m one of tha only ones that keeps promises! I really don’t have anymore feedback on this shit; everything iz a bunch of threats and things that prolly won’t happen in tha future, smh; end already!!! I feel annoyed for a positive rating! “I swear ta God, that’s on my kids;” seriously? My Rating: 2.5

14. “Off The Boat” Feat. French Montana
Lex Lugar on tha beat (or, as tha mp3 file says, “Lex Luger”), and a new feature for me… >>> Trap-styled beat goin’ on, here; likin’ tha sound of it… “I’ma blow up your house;” no, not continuin’ from tha last song!! LOL, likin’ tha hook, no matter how much of a fairytale this iz! “Straight off tha boat,” lol! Nice random appearances from French Montana on tha hook. LOL, he’s on tha 1st verse, too, and it sounds like he has that Meek Mill’s-been-brainwashed-by-Rick Ross flow; iz everyone from Maybach like dat? A lil’ boring and repetitive, if so, but I don’t mind this joint… Ross’s on tha 2nd verse and, wha—what? What happened ta ‘Thursday’, you anti-Thursday-er, smh? Weird, but it sounds like more out-of-tha-blue wishes… My Rating: 3.9

15. “King Of Diamonds”
Got excited fa a sec. ‘cause I thought it said, “Meek Mill,” on tha feature, but it’s Mike Will on tha production. >>> As bad as tags are, at least none of these producers have beat tags, which I now find hella annoyin’! Almost sounds like Shaggy when Rick says, “Rosé,” lol! A “Rosé” anthem, lol? Beat’s definitely jammin’, and it sounds like a “diamonds” chase… if it eva becomes successful, lol. LOL, for some reason, I think this iz entertainin’ ta hear; likin’ tha funny-soundin’ flow, especially since it’s not boring! “If it’s less than 10 stacks, ta me, it’s hoe shit;” I thought it was “100 mill” for you that qualifies? SMH @ decreasin’ by “10 stacks” times “10 stacks,” Ross! I like how you added a truck sound effect in tha beginning and end of this song… My Rating: 4.0

16. “Ring Ring” Feat. Future
More new appearances, here: Future on tha feature, and DJ Spinz on tha feature; how will it turn out? >>> Scary voice beginning; hope this ain’t anything fucked up! Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, a-tune!!! I hate writing tha ‘a-tune’ word ‘cause of how shitty it iz!! It sounds like two dudes suckin’ each other’s dicks, mixed wit masturbatin’ in someone’s ear; ugh!!! :td Automatically skippin’ tha hook; no need ta hear dat 2008 phase in 2012, still!! Ross has a normal voice, but because of tha hook, my interest iz at an all-time low! Thank God, this joint’s nice and short! Too bad that I usually anticipate tha #16’s on CDs, but this iz a pathetic way for a #16 song!! My Rating: 1.0

17. “MMG The World Is Ours” Feat. Pharrell, Meek Mill & Stalley
Another urban-turned-dance/house music artist on tha feature (Pharrell), but I’m sure I don’t mind him, especially since he’s a dude, on a mixtape. Also, Meek Mill on tha feature, wit a Boi-1da beat? Hope tha 3rd feature ain’t like tha Future dude! Also, 6:08 on tha length? Betta be worth every second—368 of ‘em!! >>> Weak, Kanye West-soundin’ start, and it’s Pharrell on tha hook? Damn, time ta yawn wit this pop-rap shit… “I’m feelin’ myself;” time ta masturbate, huh? Did you go wit what I said about tha previous song, Ross? I’m just playin’… Rhymes sound like a nice day at a house, but nothin’ for me, as far as interest goes… Pharrell’s on tha 2nd verse, and tha rhymes are soundin’ good, at least. LOL, everybody on dat “Black Kurt Cobain”-type shit, now; funny, especially since I finally found more out about Nirvana, mainly last year… Damn, that “Maybach Music” tag!! Time ta recover wit some Meek Mill on tha 3rd verse, comin’ through wit better rhymes than tha previous appearance… Glad his verse just keeps continuin’, lol; continuin’, and continuin’, and continuin’, and continuin’… Damn, this Stalley dude sounds almost like Kanye; was he on tha hook? Don’t even care wit my confusion, but these rhymes aren’t that bad. Still, I’m not too much into this vibe… I dunno why, but this didn’t seem like a 6+-minute song… My Rating: 3.0

18. “Party Heart” Feat. Stalley & 2 Chainz
Wit a special length of 4:27, I hope it brings a lot of good outta itself! Chuck Inglish on tha beat, but more Kanye-soundin’ shit? >>> Okay beat start, but scary, once Stalley comes in, outta nowhere, wit this Kanye-soundin’ shit… Rhymes are boring and fulla wishes; no interest, here. I thought, just like tha “mine”/’mind’ title, that this was gonna be “heart”/’hard’, but it really iz about a “party heart,” lol! “Me and Wiz burn tha same piff;” uh, tha Khalifa ain’t here, Ross, so stop wishin’! Rhymes aren’t anything special, for Ross, on tha 2nd verse; let’s see how 2 Chainz finishes this off… Beat sounds like it’s ending? Okay, here’s tha verse, and tha rhymes are pretty interestin’, finally. Nice job, once again, 2 Chainz, for comin’ through wit some catchiness… My Rating: 2.8

19. “Stay Schemin’” Feat. Drake & French Montana
The Beat Bully beat, but not lookin’ forward ‘cause Drake’s on it. I know this iz mainstream music, right now, but I’m not wit all that shit that’s goin’ on in today’s mainstream rap world… >>> What’s up wit all tha held notes on “dawg”? I would luv this if this was from 2008 and before, but now, I only take it as an okay/good hook. “Fuck it,” Ross; “fuck it,” Ross! Everyone knows your fake situation! Not too bad wit tha shit Ross brought to tha 1st verse, though. Oh, now, I hear tha hook; catchy voice from that French Montana dude… LOL @ Drake on tha 2nd verse; almost sounded like, “Oz,” when he said, “ours,” lol… Tha verse sounds consistent, but iz startin’ ta get kinda typical toward tha 2nd ½ of tha verse…; it’s a lil’ betta toward tha end of tha verse, though… LOL @ all tha “dawg” shit from French Montana, on tha 3rd verse; catchy, includin’ tha “grams” shit… My Rating: 3.7

20. Shaheem Reid Speaks
Ending wit a skit/outro, lol? >>> Thought it was just Shaheem but Ross iz gettin’ talked to, here… I bet these promises come true ‘cause they’re CDs, lol… I hear tha microphone gettin’ bumped into somethin’, a few times… They prolly could’ve titled this as an ‘Interview’, instead of “Speaks”? Not bad for an ending… My Rating: N/A

Overall: Nothin’ too bad, for me; tha average CD rating turned out ta be just about decent, for an average CD rating. Prolly could’ve done without tha a-tune and poppy-soundin’ songs, since this was a ‘mixtape’.
