Review #310: Ceaser "The Life & Times"

Reviewed on 9.25.2009 (Review #310)

It’s FrankieThaLuckyDog again! Afta recoverin’ from a nap (ta boost my stamina up), I’m back for a 6th review today, ya dig! This next one iz from Ceaser “The Life & Times”; let’s see if I’m up for it! Start Time: 11:00 PM | End Time: 11:51 PM

Disclaimer:
I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me or have auto-tune in your vocals, I’m not buyin’ it!

01. “Dreaming Of Riches”
Looks like a good title… oh wait, based off tha 1:06 length, I should say, “Looks like a good intro title!” Let’s see what we got ta start it off… >>> Not just a song, but it’s an intro! It’s actually remindin’ me of a West Coast vs. down South vibe, and I’m likin’ tha vocals here. Great job wit tha intro song; I’m surprised it was a song! My Rating: 4.0

02. “Jocin’ In The Parish”
Talk about multi taskin’! I’m doin’ this CD review while playin’ Final Fantasy III (for Super Nintendo) on my computer, doin’ my Top 10 Countdown, AND watchin’ Deal Or No Deal at tha same time, lol! I’m SOOOOO talented, and I won’t give up!! Anyway, because my boy Yung Yola was in tha parish recently, I’m lookin’ forward ta hearin’ this one! >>> Tha beat iz nice and upbeat; tha 1st verse sounded good too. You’re givin’ a nice, car ridin’ vibe here wit dis shit. Tha hook sounded pretty good too wit tha whole vibe; keep this shit up! Tha 2nd verse here explainin’ tha whole “lock-up” shit, which iz sad ta hear. I wish Yung Yola would get outta jail REAL soon!!! Nice job on tha 3rd verse too, doin’ a good job on dis shit! My Rating: 4.1
EDIT: I put tha title as “jocin’”; if it was really “Jocen” (as a name or somethin’), let me know so I can correct it.

03. “Roll On”
What’s wit tha weird spellings? I’m correctin’ them as I go along. Let’s see how good this one iz… >>> DEFINITELY on tha West Coast tip here; sounds a lil’ like a Dr. Dre 90’s beat here! Nice job on tha 1st verse, makin’ this a jam. Tha gurl on tha hook sounds good. This iz turnin’ out ta be a pretty good CD; I’m glad! Nice job on tha 2nd verse too, soundin’ good on this track. There’s nothin’ wrong wit this song, so it’s easily a plus ta people; who can hate on it?? Good job on tha 3rd verse, just steadly “rollin’ on.” My Rating: 4.0

04. “Ain’t No Love”
How will this song sound? >>> Still has tha nice West Coast style in tha beat; I like tha sound effects in tha beginning. Yea, this iz definitely on a nice undaground/mainstream level when it comes ta hearin’ it in tha 1st verse. Pretty short 1st verse, but it did its thang; good hook too (it tells exactly what it says). Nice job on tha 2nd verse too. Already onto tha 3rd verse, and it’s addin’ some gangsta attributes wit tha “shooting” parts; good shit! Nice “smoke” part towards tha end too. My Rating: 3.9

05. “Oneday”
How will this one sound? It sounded pretty rainy towards tha end of tha last song, so I don’t know if that’ll apply ta this song; only 2:38 on tha length. >>> Nothin’ depressin’ here; still that consistent West Coast style, so that’s a plus. Feelin’ tha rappin’, and tha hook iz good, especially when I hear tha title. You KNOW thingz’ll happen “oneday;” I agree. Nice job on tha 2nd verse too. Although this iz short, I think it can fit a 3rd verse! Yes, it did, and it flows nice wit tha song; glad you expressin’ your “pain” without it bein’ depressin’ or anything in tha beat! My Rating: 4.1

06. “Know What I’m Sayin’”
Unlike most CDs I’ve been reviewin’ in my marathon of 5:00+ lengths, this next song right here iz only 2:55. I like that tha songs are shorter at times, so let’s see how you do wit this one! >>> Beat iz STILL on tha West Coast consistency level, so you got a plus here again! Hearin’ tha 1st verse, and you’re goin’ on tha correct path ta survive, instead of fuckin’ wit tha wrong people! Short hook, but it sounded good ta blend in. Nice job on tha 2nd verse too, keepin’ this shit comin’ along! A 3rd verse already, and you’re “on tha rise” wit this shit; that’s true. I see there’s a 2nd version of this CD (“The Life & Times Vol. 2”); lookin’ forward ta that one too! My Rating: 3.8

07. “What’s Mine Is Yours”
This looks like it should be interestin; nice title! >>> Soundin’ betta in tha start; tha beat iz cool too. Pretty good 1st verse, and tha gurl on tha hook (singin’ tha title and tha vice versa of tha title) iz hot! Nice job on tha 2nd verse; nothin’ ta say bad about your songs/verses! Nice hood lyrics in tha 3rd verse; lots of people can relate to tha people in tha hood. Catchy song right here! My Rating: 4.3

½time: Off to a NICE start; tha whole entire CD iz consistent! Tha ratings have been pretty leveled, and I’m lookin’ forward ta hearin’ tha rest; should sound like tha 1st 7 songs!

08. “Life Or Death”
That’s tha question a lotta people ask, and now, you’re about ta define it in your own words! >>> Once again, anotha consistent, GR8 West Coast styled beat! Soundin’ good wit tha way you rappin’, and tha 1st verse went good wit what you spit. Tha hook soundin’ good too; addin’ paranoia to tha hook! Tha 2nd verse iz definin’ what you look at iz real, so keep dat shit comin’ along! Tha real shit iz tha shit that lasts!! Interesting 3rd verse wit tha “kids in tha house” part and tha “pistol in ya mouth” part too; gangsta fusion right there! My Rating: 4.0

09. “Gettin’ Higher”
A spelling error wit tha “en”, so I fixed that. Let’s see what we got here for 4:17 on tha length… >>> Slow start, but it kicked in betta as it went on. Tha beat sounds catchy wit tha rhymin’ on tha 1st verse. Pretty good 1st verse, and tha female on this hook iz pretty good. Not as good as Song #7, but still keeps tha song above average. Tha 2nd verse sounded pretty good on this, and tha 3rd verse on that same level. My Rating: 3.7

10. “Playin’ Them Hoez”
This looks like it gon be a good one… >>> More West Coast influenced music here comin’ outta tha N.O.; nice lil’ intro and tha start to tha 1st verse soundin’ nice for tha streetz. Good street verse, and tha hook iz on its pimp tip, lol. Still keepin’ it street on tha 2nd verse, doin’ tha damn thang for “them hoez.” Nice job wit tha 3rd verse, deliverin’ what it’s like when you’re spittin’ about tha title of this song. Good job wit this one right here! My Rating: 4.0

11. “Ceaser Ain’t No Buster”
I like tha title, so based off dat, this should be a GR8 song! >>> Sounds like soft sounds comin’ outta tha beat, but it’s still on its uptempo shit. Good 1st verse, and you got a female on tha hook again. This one iz soundin’ good, just like tha one on tha #7 song! Nice job on tha 2nd verse; got nothin’ much ta say, but ta keep doin’ ya thang! Tha 3rd verse still keepin’ it on dat street level, so you ALWAYS get tha props! What was that thing at tha end? My Rating: 4.2

12. “Put It To Your Lip”
Ooh, looks like an extended-gangsta topic here! REALLY lookin’ forward ta seein’ how much I like dis one!! >>> Oh, not exactly on tha gangsta tip. Instead, on tha smokin’ tip wit tha “put tha blunt to your lip” beginning. Sounds good, and I know you do yo thang on these West Coast beats! Keep these gr8 topics comin’ along too ‘cause it’s REAL consistent! DEFINITELY a nice/catchy 1st verse, and tha 2nd verse soundin’ GR8 too wit tha “blow high” shit when it comes to them blunts! Competition ta battle tha #7 song for tha top? We’ll see, although I think this might lose in a tie-breaker. Nice job on tha last verse too; good shit here! My Rating: 4.3

13. Commercial
LOL, a break? Let’s see what this “commercial” iz… >>> LOL, I was ‘bout ta say, what’s up wit tha white dude as tha DJ, but as soon as tha caller came in, it spiced thangz up! My Rating: N/A

14. “Look At Cali”
“Looks” like a good song; lookin’ forward ‘cause I KNOW you got “Cali” influences by these sounds! >>> Pretty good start; I hear tha West Coast in tha beat still. Tha singin’ in this hook from tha dude sounds aight. I know tha caller said tha featured artist on tha 2nd verse, but I don’t know who it iz, so until I know, I’ll just leave tha feature blank. It does sound good though. Nice job on tha 2nd verse, so that’s a plus. This iz definitely a jam by tha way it sounds; who can deny it? I know I said that about many songs, but it’s REALLY true! Nice job on tha 3rd verse too. Nice lil’ song here, although it felt real short. My Rating: 4.1

15. “Thank God”
Tha last song; what will it offer for me? >>> Hope it ain’t too depressin’ wit tha title, but based off this start, it’s a lil’ upbeat, so it ain’t gonna be too bad. Pretty good 1st verse; sounded like it blended wit err-thang else, and tha hook was good. I’m glad you didn’t make it depressin’ or anything; just consistent shit here! Tha 2nd verse here, and yea, “3 strikes, and you’re out;” that’s tha truth, although wit assholes, it’s more like “1 strike, and you’re out” ‘cause I’m gettin’ betta at filterin’ out people! Sounds like a young Biggie or somethin’ on tha 3rd verse, lol. Pretty good ta add ta this song; y’all all got good flows and consistent lyrics/topics! My Rating: 3.9

Overall: And it’s over… 15 songs didn’t feel that long, but it still sounded good on ALL of ‘em!! Thanx for tha consistentness, and I look forward to tha next CD!!
