Review #359: Max Minelli "Max-A-Velli (The Realest Shit I Ever Wrote)"

Reviewed on 12.13.2009 (Review #359)

And it’s FrankieThaLuckyDog once again… ‘Bout ta do my next review. Talk about bein’ behind, this next one I believe iz a Greatest Hits CD from Max Minelli. It’s tha Max-A-Veli (The Realest Shit I Ever Wrote) CD and I ‘bout ta review it. Dependin’ on what happens, it’ll still go down gr8 ‘cause it’s Max Minelli! Lookin’ forward ta gettin’ Pain Medicine fa Christmas, ya dig! Here goes my review fa Max Minelli Max-A-Veli (The Realest Shit I Ever Wrote)! Start Time: 1:18 PM | End Time: 2:47 PM

Quick Note: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0. Each rating iz my own opinion!! I only please myself with my ratings!! I don’t care how lyrical you are! As long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings (if a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much REALLY LOVE it as it’s considered “mindblowin’” when I hear it) so any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song. Anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it.

01. Intro
Startin’ it off (prolly Big Jay style); let’s see… >>> Sounds like Reno Da Gutta in tha background here rappin’ wit some speakin’ in tha beginning. Tha intro here iz tha truth and Max iz rappin’ now in tha background. My Rating: N/A

02. “10% Tint”
A bunch of these songs I’m assumin’ are old? I don’t know tha ages of each of them so I gon have ta hear what I gon hear! >>> This sounds a lil’ older here. Tha beat iz good and tha beginning wit tha title sounds gr8; gotta feel tha lyrical content! Nice job on tha 1st verse, deliverin’ tha shit for tha hood here. Tha hook sounds good too here and about “tha good times,” I have ta say it’s like 50/50 at times. Tha 2nd verse I liked betta; good hood shit here. I like tha “smokin’ weed” part too on this. Tha 3rd verse tells tha truth about tha whole video industry wit “videos and fake diamond jewels.” That was some good shit ta point out! My Rating: 4.2

03. “Mama’s Only Son” Feat. Russell Lee
I don’t know about this title so make it tight! BTW, wit tha last song towards tha end, tha phone rung. Let’s see what’ll happen when it gets answered! >>> Okay on tha phone call. Not really likin’ tha hook at all; sorry. I hear a sample in tha vocal style (Jennifer Lopez “If You Had My Love”). That may have been a lil’ catchy but I can’t feel it; it’s not my style. Max, you sound pretty good on tha 1st verse. You deliverin’ some good shit right here; glad you got tha verses on lock! Tha 2nd verse has a good flow on it too; you doin’ tha damn thang here fa tha hood! I think I like tha hook a lil’ betta; just not really inta tha whole Christian thing. Tha 3rd verse was a lil’ short; couldn’t say much about it so I guess it was okay. Tha rating pretty good fa an odd start. My Rating: 3.7

04. How Many (Interlude)
Just an interlude… Heard tha first few seconds at tha end of tha last song so let’s see what you gon say… >>> Yea, this iz more true shit. I like tha “friends” thing. Sometimes I don’t even believe in havin’ friends in person; maybe I’m still too young? So, tha next song iz from 2004? Lemme hear! My Rating: N/A

05. “How Many”
Let’s check this shit out! >>> Tha beat iz cool and tha beginning iz catchy. It sounds cool wit tha title and tha whole “down ta my last $5.” Nice job on tha hook! Your older shit must sound REAL GR8!! You KNOW I can’t wait ta get inta 2003 in my Louisiana Reviewz Marathon and review your I’m All I Got CD, ya dig! I got a lotta anticipation fa dat one!! Tha 1st verse held it down here; let’s see what we got fa tha 2nd verse… I liked tha “a.k.a. 20 guns;” tha “a.k.” part fit perfect wit tha “gun” part. I also like tha “goin’ so hard gotta pop a blood vessel, mane” part too! Tha ending beat sounded pretty cool too. My Rating: 4.3

06. “Lord Knows” Feat. Russell Lee
Anotha odd title fa me… I thought I heard this one before but wit its 6:26 length, I prolly don’t know it. >>> Anotha scary hook from Russell Lee; he just scares me when I hear him. I’m sorry ta say dat but dat’s how it goes. Tha lyrics are pretty good in tha 1st verse from you, Max. They’re definitely motivational for those in tha hood. Tha 2nd verse went through pretty good on a song like this. Tha 3rd verse I CAN feel ‘cause you said, “Waitin’ fa my homie ta send me somethin’ from jail, mane.” I ALWAYS wait fa my peeps in Louisiana ta send me shit from jail; it’s SOOOOOOO anticipatin’ and REAL GR8!!! They get ta see tha real caring side of me (e.g., my boy Yung Yola. Within seven months, I wrote him 10 times; he really appreciates it and I really care about him)! Looks like a long-ass talkin’ outro. This’ll work ‘cause it’s kinda remindin’ me of like an outro track to a CD. I’ll throw in a lyrical rating ‘cause tha song wasn’t my style for tha most part. Did we really have ta have tha hook repeat right after tha talkin’? Lyrical Rating: 4.6 | My Rating: 3.2

07. “Young Nigga”
Looks like a “young” title, lol. Lemme see how “young” I can predict… >>> I really like tha talkin’ in tha beginning, ESPECIALLY how “boi” was said, ya dig! Yea, this iz definitely a young Max right here! I like tha beat and your flow iz definitely nice here! Tha lyrics work good fa a typical day wakin’ up here. I like tha “girbauds” part when you “wash ‘em.” A lotta hood shit bein’ spit here and it’s DEFINITELY quality, ya dig! A lil’ afta tha 1:00 mark, it sounds interestin’ wit tha dude on tha phone, kinda like a conversation verse. Whateva tha hook was, it passed by pretty good I guess. Tha 2nd verse sounds good; DEFINITELY feelin’ tha shit you spittin’ here, Max! Tha dude on tha phone around tha 3:25 part sounds good. Nearly almost sounds like Max? I’m a lil’ confused but it’s cool ta flow rappin’ wit a phone call. My Rating: 4.4

08. “My Hood”
This title looks familiar… I wonder how good it gon be? >>> LOL, this iz different. It sounds like Hawaii music, lol. Tha “la la la” shit sounds like The Fugees almost, only speeded up. Pretty different… I hear you on tha 1st verse and it’s EXTREMELY fast, lol!! You sound younger here but it DEFINITELY sounds like you’re at your best or somethin’!!! I hear tha hook now and although it’s a lil’ repetitive, it feels a lil’ too long. It still flowed pretty good though… Tha 2nd verse STILL keepin’ this shit hot right here!! Tha content iz EXTREMELY GOOD here!!!!! It’s just CONSISTENT and there’s SO MUCH expressed here!!! Tha 3rd verse STILL keepin’ it hot once again!! NOBODY must disrespect you “in your hood,” ya feel me! My Rating: 4.5

09. Somebody Love Me (Interlude)
If this iz tha next song title, then I don’t know how I’ll feel about it. Lemme hear tha interlude… >>> So, you’re rappin’ in tha beginning here? Oh wait, that’s a part of tha next song? Then that’s watz good! You said you “wrote it when you were in tha hospital for six dayz when your lung collapsed?” Damn, how could your “lung collapse?!?” My Rating: N/A

½time: Sounds good fa a greatest hits CD! I usually don’t be reviewin’ these types of CDs (‘cause most of tha shit I would know at times) but this I’m reviewin’ ‘cause I would figure I’d make a commercial fa it, ya dig. Tha average CD rating currently stands at 4.1 so that’s watz good, “my boy” (as you say)!

10. “Somebody Love Me”
Lemme hear these “lung collapsin’” lyrics!! >>> Once again, anotha odd song fa me. I can’t get inta these lyrics although they’re pretty strong. Now, I hear tha hook and it sounds like I hear tha “lung collapsed” lyrics. They’re DEFINITELY powerful here so you DEFINITELY get a plus fa dat! Nice job wit tha 2nd verse too although once again, tha lyrics don’t fit me at all. Tha drug references in tha 3rd verse iz good how you rapped about ‘em. That’s gay how someone would “kill someone ova nine bucks.” I like how you ALSO was “nine months pregnant wit anger;” REAL NICE part right there!! Although my rating ain’t gonna be fittin’, at least tha lyrical rating’ll sky-rocket!! Tha beat outro kinda long? Oh neva mind, it sounded like it turned into a phone call… No, it ain’t. Why iz it such a dead-soundin’ sample? Lyrical Rating: 4.9 | My Rating: 3.5

11. “Legendary” Feat. Russell Lee
Not anotha Russell Lee song… >>> Tha beginning sounds interestin’ wit tha gutta beat. Sounds like an influenced Max here on tha 1st verse; gr8 “guidelines,” Max! Nice job on tha 1st verse and since Russell Lee’s only on like ¼ of tha hook, it flows gr8 wit Max on it; good hook. Tha rhymes in tha 2nd verse was flowin’ good too wit how you rap ‘em! Nice endin’ to it too wit tha “they ain’t disectin’” part!! Tha 3rd verse sounded good too wit your hood life and all dat. My Rating: 4.0

12. “R.N.S.”
I was ‘bout ta say, “What iz this?” I can tell it means “Real Nigga Shit;” lemme check it out! >>> Why do these songs have ta be slow? Tha intro sounds a lil’ interestin’ but I don’t think it’ll last fa me… Sounds like a young Max again on tha 1st verse. Looks like I was wrong; tha beat iz lastin’ fa me. It sounds pretty good now and your shit on tha 1st verse was good; thanx fa this Rap shit! I was correct about what tha title meant and tha hook iz definitely on sum true shit! More “R.N.S.” type shit in tha 2nd verse wit tha “they show you luv and then they stop it;” I really liked dat line! You KNOW I dealt wit dat a few times. Tha 3rd verse iz still on some “R.S.” here, lol. My Rating: 3.9

13. Someone Like You (Interlude)
I don’t know about this upcomin’ title but let’s see what you got ta say about it… >>> Tha lyrics sound good fa what you’re spittin’ them as on this so they should be good when I hear tha song. So this iz a 2002/2003 song? You were ‘pose ta have a baby but tha gurl left you? Interestin’… Not sure how much it’ll be fa me but it should be interestin’ fa what it iz! My Rating: N/A

14. “Someone Like You”
No wonder why it’s old; it’s 6:51!! Here we go… >>> I’m not “grown” yet so I don’t know how much I’ll feel this… Anotha slow beat fa a mixtape… Tha intro was interestin’ though wit tha “they could be positive and negative at tha same time” part. Nice job deliverin’ tha 1st verse and tha hook defines how STRONG you are wit tha “mind,” ya dig! More true shit goin’ on in tha 2nd verse! Tha 2nd hook iz gr8 for your dad, ya dig. Tha 3rd verse sounded pretty good fa God, ya dig. You held this joint down and now, there’s 2:46 left; what will be remainin’? Sounds like a nice relaxin’ beat wit tha okay vocals in tha background. I still think it’s a lil’ too long though. Tha beat sounded like it added instruments or somethin’ around tha 5:30 mark. My Rating: 3.8

15. “If It Wasn’t For Love” Feat. Frankie J
I heard about this collaboration… Let’s see how it sounds vs. Russell Lee collaborations… >>> More smooth shit here although Frankie sounds good on tha hook. Tha beat iz pretty good fa what it iz. Tha beat kicked in betta when you came through on tha 1st verse, Max! Still comin’ through wit those pretty good lyrics here! Glad you didn’t “play football” ‘cause football players I dealt wit in 2007 were all about bullshit! BULL-SHIT!! Not about real shit, ya dig! Tha 2nd verse pretty good wit tha lyrics fa this; sounds like you spit some powerful shit! Talk about powerful shit: Tha 3rd verse DEFINITELY has some powerful lyrics into tha body and err-thang, ya dig! Tha ending wit Frankie J sounded like it was strictly fa tha R&B peeps. My Rating: 3.8

16. “Closer Than You”
Not anticipatin’ it. >>> Anotha slow paced song? When are tha styles gonna switch up? Tha hook sounds pretty good here once again. Where did dat singin’ come from in tha 2nd ½ of it? Tha 1st verse starts off interestin’ wit tha “switchin’ zip codes” part; nice beat also at 1:09!! Glad you keepin’ it positive also on tha 1st verse! Tha 2nd verse pretty interestin’ wit tha “we blew our 1st chronic together” (wit your boyz). I wonder how people actually be serious wit people together instead of ignorin’ them? Still comin’ through strong fa your family on tha 3rd verse; keep it up! Interestin’ ending too. My Rating: 3.9

17. “I Ain’t Shit” Feat. Russell Lee
Let’s see this one. >>> A lil’ different for a beat start here; sounds like a baby’s crib, lol. LOL, what was dat sound effect at :14? That sounded odd/cool. Tha flow iz real nice here; you soundin’ like you expressin’ anger here! LOL @ Russell Lee in tha background on tha hook’s vocals wit tha title! Tha hook sounded pretty good too. Still comin’ through wit tha expressive attitude on tha 2nd verse! Some true hood shit in tha 3rd verse here; you DEFINITELY doin’ tha damn thang to tha fullest!! Nice cold ending too. My Rating: 4.0

18. “Our Mama Cherrin’”
Anotha title I’m unsure about so I gotta hear it ta see… >>> Sendin’ it out ta “Loc” and ya boyz, ya dig! Tha beat start iz a lil’ on tha babyish side again… Tha 1st verse sounds like you doin’ this fa err-body. I hear some shit in tha hook that you currently recycle at times (wit tha “God be talkin’ loud; how many niggaz hear him” line). Interestin’ hook here as it was okay fa me. Tha 2nd verse sounded good fa tha shit you spit. Tha hood iz DEFINITELY interested fa tha 3rd verse here; you DEFINITELY got tha lyrics on lock fa tha hood!! My Rating: 3.7

19. “Three Prayers”
Yea, we’re endin’ it wit a title not fa me. I don’t think it matters now ‘cause this iz tha last song; there were plenty already! >>> Glad it’s for tha “real niggaz, thugz and gangstaz;” I bet each verse iz a prayer fa each one of ‘em! I’m not crazy about tha soft start in tha beat so I guess I’ll just focus on what you’re spittin’… Tha 1st verse was gr8 and tha hook sounds good. Glad touchin’ people’s souls iz powerful!! I feel like I do it wit err-thang I do!! How much of Louisiana has been touched by me? Prolly tha damn near whole Baton Rouge!! Even down ta you writin’ me back on MySpace; that’s DEFINITELY watz good!! Nice job deliverin’ tha 2nd verse too fa this track right here! Tha 3rd verse kept it real too wit this shit right here!! You DEFINITELY doin’ tha damn thang and bein’ respected at ALL times!! Rememba: My boy Beezy Bird (outta G-Lane) wants ta collab wit you! I alerted you on your MySpace and you said, “That’s what’s up big homie.” My Rating: 3.8

Overall: I can say this was a very well put togetha Max collection. Most of it wasn’t for me so I can’t feel it that much. Tha average CD rating became 3.9 which iz REAL GOOD fa somethin’ that’s not even fa me. Keep doin’ tha damn thang, Max!! You KNOW I always support you and lookin’ forward ta finally gettin’ tha Pain Medicine from Amazon!!
