Review #371: Lil' Phat "Death Before Dishonor"

Reviewed on 12.29.2009 (Review #371)

Back up in here once again!! Ya boy FrankieThaLuckyDog here… For tha past three dayz, I was preparin’ for my 2nd Annual Louisiana Awards (as a part of my 7th Annual Music Awards), which just got finally edited and all dat! It will be airing on YouTube and err-body’s MySpace sometime on December 31, 2009 so stay tuned fa dat! Fa now, lemme check out this unexpected new Lil’ Phat CD. Posted on WOS, I didn’t realize he put a whole mixtape out again! Let’s see how he does on this one vs. Life Of A Yungsta Vol. 1; here goes my review fa Lil’ Phat Death Before Dishonor! Start Time: 10:43 AM | End Time: 12:46 PM

Quick Note: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion!! I only please myself wit my ratings!! I don’t care how lyrical you are! As long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings (if a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much REALLY LOVE it as it’s considered “mindblowin’” when I hear it) so any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song. Anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it.

01. “Feel My Pain”
I hope we have a good start to this mixtape. >>> Okay beat start for a starting song. It sounds pretty good for a beginning but I don’t know about startin’ a mixtape off wit a song like dis… Tha verse was pretty good once again. Sounds like this gon be an interestin’ mixtape; I can “feel” it. My Rating: 3.5

02. “Do It Then” Feat. Lil’ Trill
Let’s see how y’all “lil’” dudes get down wit this joint. >>> Sounds like a long intro a lil’ bit here… Finally, a hook at :34 and it sounds catchy wit tha singin’ in tha beginning; “already knoooooooooooooooow!!” Glad it’s a catchy-ass hook wit a pretty good beat ta hold this joint down! Phat, you’re REALLY “polo’d” on tha 1st verse here! You sound like you’re popular in tha undaground scene wit what you’re rappin’ about and err-body luvin’ you; that’s a plus! We got Lil’ Trill on tha 2nd verse and within some of tha last reviewz I did within this month, he sounds a lil’ older here. He was pretty confident of what he spit in his verse. He luvs his hometown of BR and must really luv fuckin’ wit Trill Ent., ya dig! My Rating: 4.3

03. “Count My Money Backwards” Feat. Webbie
This looks like it gon be a good collaboration fa this mixtape! >>> Tha beat start reminded me of Gucci Mane’s “Wasted” for a second. Oh wait, I knew this looked familiar wit tha ID ‘cause I reviewed this (I’m sure) on Supa Unit (Disc 1) from Savage Life Ent.! Let’s see what I said: LOL @ your catchy flow on tha hook. LOL @ your “er”’s instead of “a”’s. People’ll prolly hate on this hook ‘cause it has “Casper” in it, lol. That’s just my prediction on otha people. Tha 1st verse iz here and it’s aight for a start. Tha beat iz nice what you’re rappin’ on. I’m almost towards tha middle and it sounds like you luv “Casper The Ghost” ‘cause I just heard Casper in tha 1st verse, lol! Now, Webbie hopped onto tha 2nd verse here, partyin’. Sounded pretty good fa what it was. Tha 3rd verse from you and you DEFINITELY on your “Casper” shit since he’s in tha 3rd verse also! You sound real catchy on this joint too! My Current Rating: 4.4

04. “Sick Shit”
Let’s hear some “sick shit” from you, ya dig! >>> Gettin’ to tha rappin’ immediately! You sound gr8 wit tha flow here and tha rhymes are pretty good too, lol. Nice job on tha 1st verse and tha hook basically iz “sick” when it comes ta multiple thingz, ya dig. Pretty good soundin’ here! Tha 2nd verse iz pretty good too wit what you’re spittin’. Hope your “Been On” joint iz on here (heard it on DJ 5150’s latest mixtape)! My Rating: 4.1

05. “High As A Motherfucker”
I consider “motherfucker” (shouldn’t it be “muthafucka?”) a single/compound word, lol. Anyway, last year, you brought tha TIGHT-ASS “Take A Puff” joint. Now, let’s see what you got ta offer this time in 2009 by yourself! >>> Beat iz pretty good and you sound pretty good fa a start. Tha start to “Take A Puff” was much betta since it started right away wit its capturin’ style! Sounds like a typical you though on tha 1st verse… A lot of shit went on within tha 1st verse but tha lack of “smokin’” lyrics for tha title? Not sure what I should say since tha 1st verse was a typical Phat… Tha 2nd verse iz here and it’s okay once again. I say “Take A Puff” blows this away in an instant! My Rating: 4.0

06. “85 Cutlass”
I kinda know what this title iz… Let’s see what you got ta say on it! >>> You came outta nowhere here… What’s up wit tha way each song sounds wit a rappin’ start and then tha intro? Tha beat ain’t really a Louisiana sound here so it’s a lil’ odd fa me for a start… I don’t think it’s that bad so it may grow in tha future, especially since it’s upbeat. Tha hook iz good for what it iz. LOL @ how you sound on tha 1st verse; SO FUCKIN’ FAST!!! Now dat caught my attention quickly, lol!! You DEFINITELY got a WHOLE LOT ta say here!!! It’s a lil’ slower here on tha 2nd verse but you STILL keepin’ it street and your style here wit tha shit you be spittin’! Catchy lyrics here on a fast flow! My Rating: 4.4

07. “Cuttin’ Up” Feat. Foxx & Webbie
Looks really familiar but I don’t think I heard it… Should be good either way!! >>> LOL @ your “I-I” start in tha hook, lol. Not really feelin’ tha “mixin’ style” again wit when it starts a part and then randomly starts tha real beginning off… I actually re-looked at tha Supa Unit (Disc 2) review and I saw dat I reviewed this, lol! Here’s what I said: Last CD [Savage Life Ent. CD], it was fulla Casper. Now, it’s fulla “I-I-I-I”’s, lol!! Sounds like you talkin’ about “cuttin’ up” in tha hook. Tha song iz okay fa what it iz… Sounds like Foxx randomly made an appearance on tha 2nd verse, lol. He came through strong wit his tight rhymes and flow! Bringin’ back Webbie for tha 3rd verse here; interestin’ flow on this one. Gr8 job, Webbie, ESPECIALLY your attitude towards tha end of tha verse!! <- To add: I only gave it 3.6 on a 1st listen? That’s too low! My Current Rating: 4.1

08. “NBA Ballers” Feat. Pimp C & Webbie
Should be anotha gr8 song! >>> Sounded like a catchy start from Pimp C and tha beat! He DEFINITELY did tha damn thang on tha 1st verse and now, tha hook iz here from you, Phat, and it’s DEFINITELY catchy too! I like tha whole “NBA” theme fa this one! Speakin’ of tha “NBA,” Phat, your “shoulder hurt” on tha start to tha 2nd verse; that “shoulder hurt” part applies GR8 to tha theme! You even spittin’ some on topic lyrics here unlike tha “High As A MF” song! DEFINITELY a pretty good 2nd verse from you! We got Webbie remainin’ so let’s see what he got!! He still comin’ through wit a GR8 attitude like tha last song on here!! Nice job wit tha collaboration, Webbie! And Phat, props on gettin’ this collaboration ta make it a GR8 song!! My Rating: 4.5

09. “Retarted” Feat. Big Poppa
I see this kinda title all tha time so it could be familiar… I like dat it’s 4:43 so this should be EXCELLENT fa me!!! >>> Again, we got anotha cool beat here and I hear an “alright” background vocal repeatin’ here and there (like tha “Nolia Clap (Remix)” from a ½ decade ago); gr8 combo! Now, I hear tha hook and it DEFINITELY has ta be new fa me here ‘cause it sounds REAL GOOD and catchy!! Tha beat sounds EVEN BETTA within tha hook too!! Tha 1st verse from you sounds REAL GOOD ‘cause it’s on dat gangsta-type shit! Gotta feel how you comin’ fa tha streetz here!! Huh? An unsourced Big Poppa on tha 2nd verse? Why he missin’ from tha ID? But anyway, I thought it was just you but Big Poppa soundin’ pretty good/betta fa tha 2nd verse here; good shit! Anotha unsourced artist on tha 3rd verse… He sounds like he’s sayin’ that he’s “reppin’ for tha 318,” so he’s in Big Poppa’s hood. He sounds like a typical Baton Rouge dude by tha way he sounds; pretty good verse! My Rating: 4.6

10. “Phantom” Feat. Webbie
Based off Webbie bein’ on this, I picture me already knowin’ this from tha Savage Life Ent. CD; let’s see! >>> Kinda soft on tha beat but wit tha “tropicana” part, it makes you feel that it’s real sunny and hot out. Too bad it only 14 degrees where I’m at now! Tha hook was played right afta tha “tropicana” part for a second and it sounded nice; this iz good relaxin’ Rap music here. Tha 1st verse had a nice mix of street shit and some “ridin’ in my Phantom” type shit! Webbie sounds pretty good on tha 2nd verse; good collaboration. I feel dat you did it betta though, Phat; good job wit this joint right here! My Rating: 4.2

11. “Dumb Throwed”
Anotha “goin’ dumb” title!! Gonna look forward ta hearin’ this one!!! >>> Sounds like a lil’ different Phat in tha beginning… Are you happier or somethin’, lol? Tha hook sounds good; gotta luv dat 225-type shit! Here’s tha happier Phat on tha 1st verse, lol. Interestin’ type of lyrics here for tha 1st verse; lol @ tha “watermellon” part at tha end; gotta feel it!! You still soundin’ pretty cool (and happier, lol) on tha 2nd verse, really luvin’ yourself and how you feel here; gotta luv tha “polo” though! My Rating: 4.4

½time: Lookin’ like ANOTHA GR8 CD here!! I know tha 1st song was a lil’ different I guess ‘cause it “started” tha mixtape off and that’s not a starting-type song in my opinion. But, you DEFINITELY holdin’ it down wit a NICE 4.2 average CD rating at tha moment! Keep this shit up, my boy!! Glad you liked tha Life Of A Yungsta Vol. 1 review I did for you last year!!

12. “My Glock”
As soon as I saw tha title, I thought of tha song where you say, “My glocks kissin’ each otha like they gay,” or somethin’ like dat, lol. I somewhat forgot what song dat was (I reviewed it once or twice though) but I remember it was a “featurin’ Lil’ Phat” song. Let’s see what this song has ta offer! >>> This izn’t tha “kissin’” song but it sounds like a real street song. Tha beat start pretty good ta mix wit it. Tha 1st verse sounded like you were goin’ through some shit. I can’t relate to it so I can’t say anything about it. Soundin’ like you lettin’ out some anger on tha 2nd verse here too. My Rating: 3.7

13. “Don’t Kno Wat To Do”
Might go wit tha last song? >>> Yup. Dat stupid mixin’/rewindin’ style in tha beginning again… Not for me and sounds like bad consistency. Okay job wit tha way you’re deliverin’ this but pretty good soundin’ still… This ain’t really a “mixtape” song though. Tha 2nd verse was okay too fa this… Glad you holdin’ it down wit tha lyrics. I can’t get inta sad content though. My Rating: 3.0

14. “Nigga”
What could this be about? >>> Tha beat sounds like it fits wit tha last two songs… What a weird start to tha 2nd ½ of this mixtape? Horrible mix-cut off at :20. Glad you deliverin’ a “Phat Story” here wit your lyrics in tha 1st verse. Tha hook made a comeback! I like how you spelled tha title but it sounds like you’re stereotypin’ it as “if I wasn’t a nigga, I wouldn’t be able ta smoke weed or sip lean?” Color/type of person shouldn’t matter! It was an interestin’ hook though! Tha 2nd verse was pretty good too… Oh, it’s not ova yet! You got anotha verse ta spit about this song! I’m hearin’ it now and it sounds pretty good fa what it iz… My Rating: 3.9

15. “Do It Bigger” Feat. Webbie & Birdman
What will this bring this mixtape to? >>> Soundin’ good fa a start here. LOL, this iz familiar too… I rememba tha “get tha fuck out my picture” line (or whateva it iz). Finally figured out it was from Savage Life Ent.’s Supa Unit (Disc 2) and here’s what I said about it: Sounds like “I still chew ‘em bigga,” referrin’ ta jiggaz? If so, then that’s DEFINITELY watz good!! Webbie iz on tha 1st verse (previously 3rd verse) and he shinin’ on err-body, lol. Feelin’ his rhymes on this shit includin’ his flow. You’re on tha 2nd verse (previously 1st verse) and it’s okay for a start. I really like tha hook a WHOLE LOT, Phat!! A random dude on tha 2nd verse (it’s Birdman and it’s tha 3rd verse)? Soundin’ pretty good on this shit. Just FUCKIN’ luv that hook!!! Phat, you REALLY made it catchy this time!!! <- To add: Was tha 1st version I reviewed a remix? Tha verses were mixed up here compared to my 1st review fa this song. Tha 1st verse was from Webbie, tha 2nd verse was you and tha 3rd verse was Birdman. My Current Rating: 4.4

16. “Shout Out”
As a song title (“Shout Out”)? I don’t know what ta expect… >>> Ooh, it’s a Wodieson beat (a.k.a. Wodie On The Beat)! I thought that was Lil’ Ganggsta sayin’, “Anotha Wodieson beat,” at first (when I heard that tag in his Da General Vol. 2 CD). Tha hook sounds familiar and now, tha 1st verse iz pretty familiar. It’s a basic “what up” song ta whoeva you wanna say “what up” to. It sounds catchy, dependin’ on if this iz tha 1st time I’m hearin’ it or not. I like tha “shout out” to tha dudes “in tha pen!” FREE YUNG YOLA, UNCLE T, K.O., D.$.G. & MYSTIKAL!!!!!!!!!! Hope they get out when they ‘pose ta get out!! Tha 2nd verse iz here and it sounds like you DEFINITELY holdin’ it down fa tha “peeps in jail;” gotta feel dat!! My Rating: 4.3

17. “Lose Mine Too”
What did we “lose” here? >>> Tha hook sounds pretty good. I didn’t know what it had ta do wit tha title ‘til I heard tha title finally towards tha end of tha hook. Tha 1st verse sounds like you got a click wit you so that’s watz good! I like how in tha hook, you talk about how you (and others) “lose they mind;” interestin’. Let’s see what you got on tha 2nd verse here… Phat tha teacher, lol!! You ‘bout ta “solve tha problem!” That’s watz good! Sounded like a short song; prolly would’ve expected anotha verse or somethin’… My Rating: 4.0

18. “My Swagger”
How will you show err-body what your “swagga” iz like? >>> Ooh, NICE start to tha beat here!! Gotta luv tha high-energy sounds!! And it’s a Yung Hits beat here!! I didn’t know tha hook was different from tha beginning (again, smh @ tha mixin’). Tha hook was cool although lol @ all tha “er”s instead of “a”s? You REALLY luv “polo” fa your boyz, lol. You sounded like you made tha joint pretty jammin’ tha way you spit tha 1st verse! I almost feel like someone ½ your age (or younger) can write tha hook ta this, lol. Tha 2nd verse was jammin’ too! Anotha really short song… My Rating: 4.1

19. “Gonna Make It” Feat. Lady Kym
I didn’t realize ‘til now dat Lady Kym was tha same gurl on tha “That’s My Baby” song on your last CD that I didn’t really go for… I recognize her now ‘cause she’s on Wochee’s song “So Fly.” I don’t think I’ll go for this one too but it’s 2:32 so I’ll survive! >>> I don’t really go for these kinda beats (wit tha weird vocal sample in tha background). She’s on tha hook here and she sounds way betta than tha “That’s My Baby” song. Wit tha last song, she may’ve had a strong vocal on that song’s hook but I couldn’t get into it. At least this beat iz upbeat and she sounds good on it fa me! You’re on tha 1st verse, Phat, and it sounds like you’re spittin’ some “what typical people think” type of lyrics; good shit! Nice job wit tha 1st verse and you keepin’ tha hot shit comin’ along on tha 2nd verse too! My Rating: 3.9

20. “Quarterback” Feat. DJ B-Real
Ooh, lookin’ like a NICE collaboration here!! I know he was on your “They Hate” song from last year so now, here’s a “comeback” wit tha “Quarterback” song, lol! >>> Tha start DEFINITELY sounds GR8 wit tha “I be takin’ tabs” part; what a GR8 way ta start this (unless that mixin’ screws it up again, smh)! Yup, tha mixin’ confused me again… Iz dat B-Real on tha beginning wit tha “I be goin’ ham?” Now, I hear him on tha hook? I thought you were on tha hook but tha mixin’ confused me once again. Tha hook DEFINITELY sounds gr8 wit tha title and err-thang!! B-Don had a similar part in his collaboration on Jigga City J-Bo’s “I’m So Fly” wit “I throwback” as well as Dog & Tech wit their “Throw Me Back” joint. Phat, you had a pretty good 1st verse and this shit iz DEFINITELY HOT & CATCHY!!! Gotta luv dat hook!! Makes you feel like Baton Rouge ALWAYS has a EVALASTIN’ style!!!!! Its quality’ll NEVA die!!! Here’s tha 2nd verse from you (I guess B-Real just did tha hook) and lol @ you sayin’, “shid who;” “who” would’ve thought dat sayin’ from Short Bus Boyz would take off in BR? Nice job on tha 2nd verse wit this catchy-ass TOP song!! My Rating: 4.7

21. “Fuckin’ You” Feat. Diamond & DJ B-Real
Iz it “Diamon” (without tha “d”)? That’s what it says on tha ID but I feel dat they forgot a letter… Anyway, from “throwin’ back” ta “fuckin’” someone, lol? Let’s see what B-Real’ll cook up fa this joint! >>> Oh God, he’s on this hook. I’ll comment on it after tha stupid rewind back again from this mixin’… I don’t really like how there’s random samplin’, 90’s style. He rather “fuck” someone than approve my friend request on MySpace? Gay… I thought it was “money ova bitches?” You even contributed to tha hook too, Phat. You sounded pretty good and because B-Real’s on tha hook wit his “fuckin’” style, it gets me jealous… I almost feel like I gotta “fuck” someone fa him ta approve my friend request on MySpace. For tha 1st verse, you did ya thang here. Deliverin’ those pretty good lyrics fa this song and its topic here. Here’s tha 2nd verse and yea, I was right, it’s Diamond ‘cause it’s tha Crime Mob gurl; good collaboration! She applied gr8 fa this joint right here! What could be on tha 3rd verse? Everytime I hear B-Real on tha hook, I just unleash a lot of jealousy!!! Calmin’ down a lil’, here you are again on tha 3rd verse, Phat. Good job but lol @ tha real cold ending. My Rating: 4.3

22. “Thank I Ain’t Fuck’d Up” Feat. DJ B-Real
Again B-Real? LOL… This title looks like it’ll be a follow up to tha last song, lol. What does it have ta prove a point ta know that you “fucked,” lol? >>> Oh, it’s not on tha “fuckin’” type, it’s on tha “fucked up” type. I have a feelin’ I’ll be REAL anticipated fa this!! Tha hook sounds REAL TIGHT here!! Gotta luv tha whole style wit tha topic!!! You’re on tha 1st verse and what’s wit tha memory loss wit tha “can’t rememba tha name of tha song, I’m too drunk” type line? If that’s tha case, you KNOW I don’t wanna lose my memory! I don’t even think I would, regardless of what I would do! Because I hear “up” in tha hook, I’ll add “up” to tha title ‘cause it makes more sense. I now hear B-Real on tha 2nd verse and I keep releasin’ jealousy fa some reason when hearin’ him… Prolly ‘cause I neva caught his attention yet wit tryna be cool wit him. If I can be cool wit his brotha Big Wayne, I can be cool wit him. It’ll prolly take more time but ANYBODY from Louisiana/Baton Rouge CAN be cool wit me, easily! I do buku talents and countin’!! Anyway, he did his thang on tha verse! I just really look forward ta talkin’ ta him in tha future! My Rating: 4.6

23. It’s A Go
Only a 13 second bonus, lol? Let’s see what this gon lead into quickly… >>> LOL, it’s not a song, it’s a DJ Unk check in. Okay… I guess that’s good then. My Rating: N/A

Overall: I thought this was a pretty good mixtape! Even wit tha songs dat didn’t fit my style, it flowed through nicely and would sound gr8 on my iPod!! Glad you “doin’ it bigger,” Phat, lol. Keep up tha gr8 work and you know, tell err-body I said, “watz good! I’m on tha grind wit my reviewz, commercials & radio show!!” REAL GLAD DJ B-Real heated up tha ending ta this mixtape, havin’ 3x a B-Real charm, lol!
