Review #959: Mikey T "Once Upon A Classic"

Reviewed on 5.29.2011 (Review #959)

I got two reviewz ta do for tonight. I’m surprised I’m doin’ ‘em ‘cause I have a sextuple cold (what I like ta call—six body parts are fucked up on me, right now). Rough, but tha grind don’t stop! This review I have iz Mikey T “Once Upon A Classic. Hope this doesn’t suck and add pressure to my 6x cold! Start Time: 9:55 PM | End Time: 10:19 PM

Quick Note: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion!! I only please myself wit my ratings!! I don’t care how lyrical you are! As long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much REALLY LOVE it as it’s considered “mindblowin’” when I hear it. Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song. Anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it.

01. Intro
Produced by Kossae. >>> Just keys? They sound tight, but I can’t judge only this intro… My Rating: N/A

02. “Revolution” Feat. Joe Cool
Featured and produced by Joe Cool. >>> Sounds like good rappin’; tha beat’s pretty nice, too… I’m likin’ this undaground vibe, as it reminds me of some of tha Early 2000’s-type shit, when I used ta get somewhat-excited ova unknown/new shit. Hook almost sounds odd wit tha random sample speech goin’ on, lol… Joe Cool’s aight on tha 2nd verse; sounds too much like Kanye? My Rating: 3.7

03. “Fly Like A Bird” Feat. Domi Rash
Joe Cool producin’, again. >>> Anotha intro? Okay, at :24, it actually starts… Even though a lil’ borin’ wit tha production, I have some interest in dis… I like tha “nickel, nigga” part; catchy combo. Good rhymes although tha hook’s a lil’ cheesy/sucky for me wit this sample; I don’t get why people have an erected-love for samples? Rash’s on tha 2nd verse and it’s an aight verse, too; glad he doesn’t really sound like anybody… My Rating: 3.2

04. “What You Askin’ For” Feat. Mr. Hearns
>>> C’mon, anotha intro part? I dunno if dat’s tryna be creative or too repetitive? For some reason, I seem annoyed, which prolly means dat I feel dat it’s gettin’ repetitive. Anyway, beat’s completely dry, here; not even 1% of any tightness goin’ on wit it although tha rhymes are a lil’ good… Why in tha hell iz this so low on tha volume? Kinda gainin’ interest toward tha 1:58 mark but this beat has 0% tightness in it; WTF? My Rating: 2.4

05. “Paris Nights/New York Mornings” Feat. B3auu
What does dat featured dude’s name say? >>> Beat’s boring, once again; not tha most interest fa me… Damn, A-Tune at :52? Fuck tha rest of dis! Don’t eva mix “classic” and A-Tune; I hate this stupid, fucked-up generation we’re in wit Rap! My Rating: 1.3

06. “Enchanted”
>>> A lil’ betta wit tha beat but why so sappy? Where’s tha intro beat??? Not bad wit tha rhymes; not sure what ta say… No rhymes on tha hook? I’m actually likin’ how tha beat sounds on tha hook, so at least you got a plus… My Rating: 3.5

07. “Hurt”
>>> Damn, why Christina Aguilera’s beat; I don’t get dis shit? Wish I would be listenin’ to my Baton Rouge-type shit and not this jacked/Pop-jacked-type shit when it comes to tha beats. Anyway, no need ta have interest in dis… SMH @ tha original parts bein’ in dis; deduction! My Rating: 1.2

08. “Searching For Love”
>>> Again, anotha wack-ass beat? Hook’s pretty wack; not feelin’ dis singin’, especially since dis CD’s not helpin’ out, either! My Rating: 1.4

½time: Thought this would be a decent CD but it seems to be takin’ a toll wit me…; current CD rating iz 2.4.

09. “Highness” Feat. Sean G
ChefBoyArrDee on tha beat. >>> Even though I can fuck wit Sade, this sax izn’t for me, Louisiana Rap style. Once again, way too dry for me; I do think tha hook’s catchy but nothin’ I’d take serious, in a 2011 perspective. My Rating: 2.7

10. “Timeless” Feat. Sean G
Cannon beat. >>> Not for me; had enough of all these Southern rappers tryna sound tha same—sound like East Coast people when East Coast has been dead!! Way too much on Kanye’s dick, here! Hook has a plain sample, once again; what tha hell? What’s up wit tha intros/outros on all these songs? My Rating: 1.1

11. “Looking For A Purpose” Feat. Top Billion
Lyr1kz beat. >>> Boring intro, again…; damn, driest Rap CD of all time? This sounds betta wit tha rappin’ and I’m startin’ ta like tha beat once tha rappin’ starts. Okay, this iz betta than I expected; rappin’ iz on point from tha both of y’all. My Rating: 3.6

12. “It Gets No Better” Feat. Christian Dee
Christian Dee did tha beat, too. >>> Production’s kinda boring fa me; nothin’ terrible but nothin’ for me, song wise. My Rating: 2.5

13. “Late Night Classics” Feat. Christian Dee & Darius
Kossae beat. >>> More mainstream-soundin’ shit… Good startin’ line: “it’s like I’m freefallin’ backwards.” Y’all do an aight job on tha verses; can’t hate on ‘em, since this iz a not-too-bad joint. My Rating: 3.3

14. “Ain’t Said Shit” Feat. Top Billion & Domi Rash
Kossae beat. >>> This sample of Eazy-E’s a lil’ on tha played-out side. It’s like, shit, as soon as tha CD’s about ta make a comeback… Either way, rhymes are good/aight… My Rating: 3.6

15. “Bringing88Back (Est. 88)”
>>> I can fuck wit this, no matter what condition it iz; at least you have a consistent amount of rhymes goin’ on, here! My Rating: 4.3

16. “Bye-Bye” Feat. Top Billion
Endin’ wit a Joe Cool beat. >>> Even though a cheesy title, tha hook sounds catchy wit tha repeatin’ of tha title… Rhymes are soundin’ pretty cool, here; nice job… Damn, endin’ wit an outro for tha endin’ song, no less… My Rating: 3.4

Overall: This review iz not sayin’ dat you suck; this review iz sayin’ dat this CD wasn’t really for me. What I like to hear iz Louisiana and tha sound I’ve known it for. I’m not into all dat East Coast-soundin’, Drake-dickin’/Wayne-dickin’, 2010’s-generation-type shit.
