Review #1,306: Max Minelli "California Dreams"

Reviewed on 8.28.2013 (Review #1,306)

Catchin’ up on some reviewz, some that I ain’t get when they came out. This first one’s from 2011: Max Minelli California Dreams. Start Time: 12:27 PM | End Time: 1:00 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you use tha word “swag” frequently, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes 100,000x (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it! After I was robbed by an artist who claimed they “get money,” hearin’ about how much you “got money” and anything “money” really bothers me. If you have not done business wit me before, I won’t tolerate “money” talk in tha music!!

01. On The Plane (Intro)
>>> All aboard tha Max plane! Lil’ soulful in tha background, here… My Rating: N/A

02. “Look At California”
>>> An okay soulful start, here… Really long intro that gets boring, but here you are wit tha rhymes, on tha only verse… Ehh, rhymes are aight, but it sounds like you’re havin’ a good time. My Rating: 2.8

03. “California Dreaming”
>>> Sounds like tha beat Nasty Nate made for himself called “I Ain’t Trippin’”, durin’ tha same year? Not really anticipatin’ tha same beat… Then again, he took tha idea from Too $hort… Either way, this a lil’ boring fa me; rhymes are consistent and decent, though. My Rating: 2.5

04. “Caintyoutel”
>>> This aight, too. I think by goin’ this old school, jacked-beat route (like with Backpack Dreams (And Hip-Hop Wishes)), it’s not really tha best from you. I like you on original tracks, unless you’re spittin’ very-consistent rhymes, like a New York battle rapper. My Rating: 3.0

05. “Ocean Front Property”
Country song? >>> Actually, no, “Hotel California” on tha beat. I don’t get tha long, boring, sellout-soundin’, 52-second beat intro? Too long to keep my interest… Nice rhymes on here, as it sounds like I’d be able to fall in luv wit ‘em, if I was there in tha studio while you were spittin’ ‘em! However, hearin’ tha hook and it’s just tha “Hotel California” (The Eagles’) original hook; not feelin’ tha jacked hook! I take points off fa dat! My Rating: 2.6

06. We In Long Beach (Skit)
>>> Max, you on your travelin’ shit! Any news on seein’ me soon? My Rating: N/A

07. “It’s Like This”
>>> Sounds like Nate Dogg in tha beginning…? Anotha okay song fa me, but I’m not feelin’ tha “it’s like this; it’s like that; it’s like this, and, uh” hook; anotha jacked thought! My Rating: 2.9

08. “Call Him Great”
>>> Almost was like, “WTF?,” at tha beginning, but I like this ‘90s, mainstream Louisiana sound, here… Consistent rhymes, here; I’ll give this one a thumbs up! My Rating: 3.8

09. “Ghetto Jam”
>>> More jackedness, here, with Domino’s track and original hook; yawn… Feelin’ your rhymes; you kinda blend in good wit these ‘90s tracks… Wow, “money” songs were still somewhat-normal back ‘round when you made this CD, Max! Now, I’d completely trash ‘em! My Rating: 2.7

10. Late For The Red Carpet (Skit)
>>> Damn, Max! Can’t be “late,” lol! My Rating: N/A

½time: Sounds like ‘90s, West Coast-soundin’ jacked beats, here. It’s ehh (only a 2.9 for tha CD rating, currently). You’re good at what you do, but stick to original productions!

11. “Gucci Frames”
>>> Time for an “It Was A Good Day”… Would’ve rather’ve heard how “it was a good day” in Baton Rouge wit these rhymes than these “frames” and typical lyrics dat anyone can spit… Yuck: “Any day you get money iz a good day;” why iz everyone one-dimensional with how they look at success and happiness as? “Money” don’t define anything fa me! It defines how most people be on dat bullshit!! My Rating: 2.2

12. “Burn Us Alive”
>>> On tha gangsta side, here; I like tha dark vibe, Max! Now, you’re talkin’…fa tha streetz! My Rating: 4.0

13. Come To The Bay (Skit)
>>> I bet a “bitches” song finna come up next… My Rating: N/A

14. “It’s Goin’ Down Tonight”
>>> Not “bitches,” but a ridin’ start, here, that sounds good… Likin’ tha beat you chose this time; seems like you’re gettin’ tha hang of what I like… Also, consistent rhymes, “vividly!” Lots of great “E”-pronounced rhymin’ words! My Rating: 4.3

15. “I’m So Raw”
>>> Good rhymes ova this ‘90s beat; glad you have 100s of jointz out there! Prolly gettin’ closer to a 1000 jointz!! My Rating: 3.7

16. Please Call Me (Skit)
>>> Gotta call, Max! I neva even talked to you on tha phone, yet. I think it’s time I finally get ya #, wheneva I get tha chance. My Rating: N/A

17. “Pussy Power”
>>> This iz aight; I’m not really big about these kinda songs, but, I guess you’re layin’ dat “pussy” down right, lol. My Rating: 3.2

18. “Gangbangin’”
>>> Typical-soundin’, mainstream ‘90s beat you chose, here… Just regular rhymes in tha streetz fa me; they’re aight. My Rating: 3.1

19. “Bitches And Money”
>>> Just like tha previous song, only on a “bitches and money” tip. Nothin’ that special, but it ain’t bad. My Rating: 2.4

20. “Hard Shit”
>>> This sounds consistent wit how you comin’ through wit tha rhymes, on some “shit,” lol. Other than that, it’s mainly okay for me. My Rating: 3.4

21. “Bridge To California”
>>> Ehh, endin’ it with a “Under The Bridge” beat (Red Hot Chili Peppers)… Well, just tha beginning part of it… Sounds like some good rhymes you spittin’ here—oh, switched up to tha regular song at 1:13. This really 5:15? Kinda long, but I’ll give it up to ya singin’ a lil’ bit… Kinda on a Savage level; nice… No, tha original hook; yuck! Kinda like a lotta randomness, here and there, includin’ tha final part of tha original song, too… Mixed review for me, overall. My Rating: 3.3

Overall: Nothin’ really else ta say; I have more Max Minelli reviewz comin’ that I have to catch up on…
