Review #1,744: Skull Duggrey "These Wicked Streets"

Reviewed on 8.08.2017 (Review #1,744)

Was able to get up, just now… Lemme get inta this: Skull Duggrey These Wicked Streets, released in 1998 on No Limit Records & Penalty Recordings; here goes my review! Start Time: 1:31 AM | End Time: 2:48 AM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> “ iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> “ iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. “Where You From” feat. Master P & Silkk The Shocker
Craig B production. >>> Nice hook from P & beat from B, here… Hearin’ P on tha 1st verse and yeah, this sounds nice… It’s connections like these you think would last forever, just like my friend & I, etc. Then, everything just ends, outta nowhere, ova tha lil’ shit, smh! Silkk on tha 2nd ½ of tha 1st verse and he soundin’ nice, here; diggin’ tha anthemic opening track! Hearin’ Skull on tha 2nd verse and you doin’ a nice job, just handlin’ tha track down; good shit… Heard from your son a lil’ while ago; that was good… Endin’ wit P chantin’, here; good shit… My Rating: 4.4

02. “If It Don’t Make $$$...” feat. Fiend, Master P & Mo B. Dick
Mo B. beat… >>> A slower track, here; good shit on tha hook from P, here… Fiend on tha 1st verse, just on his chill mode wit tha rappin’…; not bad, overall… A lil’ bit of singin’ from Mo B. on tha hook, too; nice… P on tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ catchier than tha 1st verse wit his extra umph for tha 2nd verse… Here you are on tha 3rd verse, comin’ through wit your rappin’, too; good shit… My Rating: 3.9

03. “The Set Up” feat. Mia X
Carlos Stephens on tha production… >>> Sounds good wit how you comin’ through on tha 1st verse wit this regular-paced track… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s pretty nice from you, here, depictin’ this “set up;” good shit… Hearin’ Mia on tha 2nd verse and she survivin’ tha struggle, doin’ her thang; nice… Here you are on tha 3rd verse, here, comin’ through wit some good shit, too; gotta keep it movin’… And, an outro at least a minute long from you, here; nice… Mia addin’ a taste to tha end with, “It’s a trap, y’all,” just ta remind “y’all,” lol… My Rating: 4.0

04. “Testimony” feat. Fiend, Mr. Serv-On & O’Dell
Carlos Stephens on tha beat… >>> Nice lil’ beat sound throughout this darker beat and tha hook ain’t too bad… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice…; you and your calm flow… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s decent; most of tha flows on this CD are on chill mode, here… Here you are on tha 3rd verse, here, “In 1970, a hoodlum was born…;” aren’t you “1975?” That’s what Facebook said… Either way, decent lil’ verse, here… Tha 2nd ½ of tha 3rd verse be someone else… As far as their flow, it literally sounds like they’re readin’ a “testimony” out loud, lol… Not tha greatest flow but aye, they’re featured, so…, they’ll be good… My Rating: 3.8

05. “Satisfied” feat. Mystikal
Craig B beat… >>> A lil’ upbeat on tha beat, here; definitely nice… Mystikal on tha 1st verse, slaughterin’ tha track to tha fullest! Hearin’ tha hook and it sounds catchy wit you singin’ tha title, lol… Definitely nice wit tha beat soundin’ upbeat, too… Hearin’ you on tha 2nd verse and it’s nice; I feel tha celeb vibe! I hope I continue ta be dat celeb as I continue to branch out and get older! I’m diggin’ how you sound like you boosted your voice up like Mystikal fa tha near-end of tha 2nd verse; good shit… I almost thought you was Mystikal, fa a second…! Hearin’ tha 3rd verse and it’s soundin’ nice from you, here, just continuously spittin’, spittin’, spittin’… And, at least a 40-second outro from you, here… My Rating: 4.2

06. “Mistakes In The Game” feat. Snoop Dogg
Craig B beat… >>> A dry-soundin’ beat, here… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it sounds like a Duggrey mission… Keepin’ it movin’ wit Snoop on tha 2nd ½ of tha 1st verse, soundin’ a lil’ dry on tha rappin’ but it’s his rappin’ style, for tha most part; can’t deny it… Hearin’ Snoop on tha hook and it’s true, how we all “make mistakes, mane;” definitely right! Triple M’s moment: “Make mistakes, mane!” Hearin’ y’all on tha 2nd verse and it’s straight, as well… My Rating: 4.1

07. “My Regiment” feat. The Commission
Carlos Stephens did this track… >>> Nice lil’ hook from you, here, wit this nice-soundin’ beat… Hearin’ tha 1st verse from these Commission dudes and it sounds nice fa this collab; good shit… Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ nice from The Commission, once again… Also, you hop onto tha verse, here… “1983, my verse on ‘Robbery’;” where dat at, Skull? Nice collab, tho; glad you got a lot ta offer! My Rating: 3.8

08. “Shakin’ In The Streets” feat. KLC
KLC & O’Dell on this beat… >>> Sounds nice wit you on tha hook; this beat a lil’ dry, tho, wit not much goin’ on in it… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it’s soundin’ decent wit what you spittin’, here… Keepin’ it movin’ wit you on tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ decent… A coupla random parts that make me laugh, at times, such as tha “jello jiggalin’,” or whateva that iz… Either way, just a decent lil’ track, overall… Also, here you are on tha 3rd verse, comin’ through wit your shit, as always… My Rating: 3.7

09. “I’m Not A Victim” feat. Big Ed, Shad & Soup Bone
O’Dell on tha track… >>> A slow track, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s not bad for a start, here… This 5:02 on tha length, so I’ono how interested I can stay, here… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s just, “Hmm…?” Okay… Hearin’ you on tha 2nd verse and I like how you sound wit your voice but this delivery’s so slow… Hearin’ tha 3rd verse and it’s decent wit what you bringin’, here… Still, it’s a lil’ too slow wit tha delivery ta keep my interest up… An extra verse toward tha end, here… Oh, finally, tha flow speeds up! My Rating: 3.5

½time: Most of this iz on an above-average tip, fa me… A 3.9-rated CD, so far; good job, Skull…

10. “It’s No Limit”
A solo track wit KLC on tha beat… >>> Decent start, here, wit you on tha 1st verse, spittin’ some good shit… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s pretty nice wit how you reppin’ fa “No Limit,” here, with “no limit,” too; good shit… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and you got shit on lock, too… And, we got tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ pretty rough on tha flow; gotta luv it! My Rating: 3.9

11. “Pain”
Carlos Stephens beat… >>> A slow beat, here; let’s see what it do… Hearin’ tha 1st verse from you and it a nice lil’ story of what you’re goin’ through in These Wicked Streets of tha N.O., here… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s a simple-soundin’ hook that’s just decent… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and at 1:58, did you say, “My nigga, Nu$$ie?” Early shout out? Good shit, if so… In reference to that “1970” part from one of tha earlier songs on here, Nu$$ie was born in ’75, so I assume y’all born tha same year? For a slow song, this ain’t too bad, overall… And, a 54-second outro, followin’ only two verses fa 3:40 in length, so far… My Rating: 3.6

12. “Murder Crime”
A Craig B beat… >>> Sounds like a hyped-up beat, here; feelin’ tha intensity! Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice, as you deliver tha lyrics wit a decent flow… Hearin’ tha hook and it sounds nice and intense; feelin’ what you spittin’ wit tha “you find…two bodies by tha dumpster, all tha time” line and shit! Nice! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s pretty nice wit what you got goin’ on, too… My Rating: 4.3

13. “If U Feel” feat. C-Murder & Silkk The Shocker
KLC & Mo B. Dick on tha track… >>> A decent lil’ beat that’s kinda slower, too… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it ain’t bad… Still, some of these slower tracks are soundin’ a lil’ dry, like they need honey mustard or somethin’ on ‘em, lol… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s not bad, here; feelin’ it only a touch, I guess? Tha rest of tha vibe seems kinda dry… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s not bad; just a lil’ yada-yada-like…? Hearin’ tha 3rd verse and it’s not bad, once again… My Rating: 3.6

14. “Drama”
Carlos Stephens on tha track… >>> A lil’ more upbeat wit this beat, this time… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds nice wit what you bringin’ to tha banks of tha N’awlinz… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s pretty nice wit what you got goin’ on, here, depictin’ tha “drama” that each situation brings… Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ like a decent verse… Despite bein’ decent, it’s how you sound while you’re deliverin’ these rhymes that sound catchy, at least… And, a 3rd verse, here, soundin’ nice, too; can’t complain… My Rating: 4.1

15. “What What”
Carlos Stephens on this beat, too… >>> Sounds like an okay track, here, wit you rappin’ on tha 1st verse… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s kinda quick; ehh, okay… Hearin’ tha lil’ interlude before tha 2nd verse and I’m diggin’ all tha dialogue you sayin’, here, bruh… All tha “dawg,” “bruh,” etc. shit; dope! Actually, this must be tha hook, now, followin’ tha lil’ interlude part; catchy, even tho it simple… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s not bad, here… My Rating: 3.4

16. “These Wicked Streets”
O’Dell beat… >>> Decent beat; nothin’ too special… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it ain’t bad, here… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s not bad; nothin’ too much goin’ on here… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and you keepin’ it goin’ in a decent way, here… And, a 3rd verse from you, here, soundin’ decent wit how you makin’ it through “These Wicked Streets,” just like your album title… My Rating: 3.7

17. “For The Fans”
Carlos Stephens on tha beat… >>> Hearin’ tha beat and it’s a lil’ dry, once again… You on tha 1st verse, here, and it sounds decent; it’s whateva… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it sounds a lil’ boring but I guess it’s straight…? A 3rd verse, here…; not bad, overall… My Rating: 3.0

18. “Ghetto Niggas” feat. C-Murder & Silkk The Shocker
No producer listed fa this final track… >>> Sounds pretty upbeat, finally; good shit! Definitely diggin’ C on tha hook, here; he always brings tha heat! And, transitionin’ right inta him on tha 1st verse, here, bringin’ mo heat! “And now, I shmoke weed wit tha realest;” ain’t dat right, C! Can’t wait till dat us, one day, once you get outta jail! Would luv to kick it witchu like I kick it wit these Baton Rouge rappers, ya dig? I’m cool wit Skull, so it only gon be a matta o’ time! Hearin’ you on tha 2nd verse, Skull, and it sounds nice ta hear, here; good shit… And, Silkk on tha 3rd verse, here, comin’ through wit dat greatness, as well… My Rating: 4.3

Overall: Thought this CD was gon be way better, in a way that all tha tracks would be 4.0-rated tracks. I’ono, but a good portion of tha production was a lil’ dry, makin’ tha tracks not sound that excitin’ ta me… Either way, a nice lil’ CD in tha collection, Skull; keep up tha great work! Hope I hear from ya again soon!
