Review #1,752: The Muse Gru "Never Come Close"

Reviewed on 8.10.2017 (Review #1,752)

My next review, str8 outta Lake Charles, iz The Muse Gru Never Come Close, released in 1998 on Blackeye Entertainment; let’s get it… Start Time: 1:41 AM | End Time: 2:16 AM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> “ iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> “ iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. “You Betta Tell ‘Em”
>>> Likin’ this lil’ dark-soundin’ beat and how y’all comin’ through on tha 1st verse, here… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s nice wit tha female voice added to it… Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ nice, too; good shit… With tha 3rd verse, it’s pretty consistent; definitely diggin’ it! My Rating: 4.0

02. “Something In The Watter” feat. DJ Phill, Shaggy & Speed
>>> Plain-soundin’ beat, here; not too bad for a start wit tha 1st verse, here… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s nice with how it sounds… Why tha extra “T” with tha “watter,” here? Hearin’ tha hook and it’s ehh…; kinda boring wit this plain sound? Rhymes can be continuin’ ta be consistent on tha 2nd verse, but I want a nice beat, not a plain one… And, tha 3rd verse continues ta bring it, but this kinda long fa tha rest of it… My Rating: 3.4

03. “Life Is A Blunt” feat. Turquoise Williams
>>> A lil’ betta wit this beat but still a lil’ dry… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it ain’t too bad, here… Really feelin’ tha female voice on tha hook, especially that it’s about a “blunt!” Quick and nice; good shit… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s not bad, neither; just decent verses, here… And, toppin’ it off wit tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ like anotha decent one… My Rating: 4.0

04. “Time & Time”
>>> A lil’ betta than a dry beat, here, but it’s still a lil’ dry fa tha track, overall… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s ehh… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s good, in a way that it could be “tha last time,” but that’s about it… Also, likin’ tha mysterious female voice, like tha “Blunt” track… Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ decent… Likin’ all tha “shmokin’” moments, here; good shit… Nice ending part wit tha last minute, havin’ tha female vocalize and all dat… My Rating: 3.8

05. “Mary Jane”
>>> Thought it would be a nice weed song but I find it kinda slow and a lil’ dry… Yeah, I know that’s what bud should be like/do to ya, but it’s ehh… Tha mysterious female on tha 1st verse and hook sounds good, in some wayz…; I dig her singin’… I’ono if I can handle 4:49 of it, tho; kinda long? Tha rest kinda long but still a lil’ decent… My Rating: 3.1

06. “Devil In The Barber Shop” feat. Candy Cain
>>> Hearin’ various amouts of y’all rap on tha 1st verse, here, and it’s decent… Hearin’ tha hook and it sounds nice wit tha aggressive voice, here; good shit… For tha most part, not too much sparkin’ my interest but I’ll keep tunin’ in… Keepin’ it goin’ wit tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ like a decent verse… I’ono, sometimes, I feel like I get lost wit who’s rappin’, at times… It seems like y’all shuffle way too much? My Rating: 3.0

07. “Even Though You Left Me”
>>> Damn, 5:54?? Startin’ off wit tha hook and it sounds like a nice lil’ slow jam; we’ll see how long my interest stays… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds a lil’ betta than typical verses on here; real-life shit, here… Tha rest of this kinda boring but it iz what it iz, I guess? My Rating: 2.6

08. “Love Ain’t No Friend” feat. Candy Rain
>>> Decent singin’ on tha hook but tha beat kinda plain, tho… Tha verses are random-soundin’ ta me, here… My Rating: 3.2

½time: A 3.4-rated CD, so far… I’ono, too many dry, quiet-soundin’ tracks, here, as well as not-that-catchy verses… Sometimes, this seems more like an R&B CD than a rap one, ta me…

09. “Money Makes The World Go Round” feat. Candy Rain
>>> Catchy rappin’ and a betta-soundin’ beat, here; not too bad… Tha chick ain’t too bad wit her rappin’, as well… My Rating: 3.3

10. “Fast Life (Alize & Hennessy)” (Alize & Hennessy)
>>> This one sound like a nice lil’ party; good hook, beat and tha rappin’ ain’t bad, here… My Rating: 3.5

11. “Ninja In The Night”
>>> Decent-soundin’ track, here… Hearin’ tha verses and they ain’t bad; y’all focused on tha future, here, which I feel… Tha final verse has a lil’ more effort wit tha rappin’/pace than most of tha tracks on here… My Rating: 3.6

12. “Bring It On”
>>> Quiet-soundin’ vocals, here; oh boy… Beat ain’t too bad and it sounds nice wit tha rappin’, but tha vocals too quiet… My Rating: 2.7

13. “In Yo Space” feat. Candy Rain
>>> I’ono, kinda sounds East Coast-y to me wit tha production…; lack of interest fa me, here… My Rating: 2.2

14. “How You Want It” feat. Candy Rain
>>> Really likin’ tha alarm clock-soundin’ bass start, here! Fuckin’ catchy-ass bassline!! Tha rappin’ pretty nice, too; this gotta be tha highlight track on here! Nice job wit tha aggression and what y’all bringin’ to tha table, here! My Rating: 4.3

15. “Never Come Close” feat. Speed
>>> This one kinda quiet/dry, as well as bein’ ehh… Some of tha verses have a good effort wit tha rappin’ but it’s still a lil’ quiet on tha vocals, at times… My Rating: 2.9

16. “Can’t Believe You’re Gone” feat. Marcus
>>> Anotha long track? No wonder why some of these reviewz take fa’eva ta review…! Just a typical-soundin’ song about someone dyin’… Only thang betta wit this one iz that it’s a lil’ more upbeat than tha typical, depressin’-soundin’ tribute song… My Rating: 2.5

Overall: A good portion of these tracks were kinda long, despite tha not-so-catchy tracks, overall… I’ono, I thought this woulda been betta but it iz what it iz…
