Review #1,590: NBA YoungBoy "Mind Of A Menace 3"

Reviewed on 11.08.2016 (Review #1,590)

Happy Birthday, $hop With Ken, even tho tha workday sucked & was a paranoid one! Will it be like that next Tuesday, when it’s B-Real’s birthday? Deserves to be, after this stressful work year!! But, too bad I ain’t get to this last night. Guess tha previous CDs made me yawn too much to where I fell asleep & couldn’t get back up? Let’s get into it, now: NBA YoungBoy Mind Of A Menace 3… BTW, I voted for Donald Trump ‘cause his 1st name’s tha same as my boy, Doe-Doe’s outta Baton Rouge! Start Time: 4:02 PM | End Time: 4:30 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> “ iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> “ iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. “Watchu Sayin’”
>>> Q-Red said on his Instagram that he produced Track #01, but it says, “DJ Swift”? I’ono; I’ll just wait for a beat tag? Either way, sounds too much like Mista Cain on tha 1st verse with tha voice/flow, here… Regardless, it sounds nice with this beat and for an undaground rap song, overall. And, tha 2nd verse sounds a lil’ more listenable… My Rating: 3.8

02. “Life”
>>> Now, this tha Q-Red production; scratch out that 1st track! That ain’t him! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds good with these real-life rhymes… Tha beat kinda quiet, at first, but it’s pullin’ through with these eerie sounds; nice! Not much goin’ on with tha hook except a distorted sample but it sounds nice with this beat… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s special with this eerie sound in tha beat! So many different eerie sounds goin’ on; nice! I’ll give this one major credit for its pluses, despite it bein’ one of those real-life songs! My Rating: 4.3

03. “Changed”
>>> A quiet beat start but it gets better… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it’s soundin’ nice wit how you comin’ through fa these Baton Rouge streetz… Around :39 - :51, you kinda have a Shy Glizzy-like voice, as tha 1st verse slowly ends; that’s what it reminds me of… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it a lil’ faster with tha flow… I’ono, nothin’ special; just too fast with tha flow… A long beat outro, too, but it sounds nice… My Rating: 3.9

04. “Ain’t Playin’”
>>> Nard & B beat; decent, so far… Hearin’ you on tha verse and it sounds okay; kinda mainstream-y…? Just yada-yada-yada with tha rhymes, here… Rappin’ doesn’t mean to just randomly rap shit off tha top of ya head fa no reason… Forgot that you do short songs, so this ended outta nowhere fa me… My Rating: 3.8

05. “Bet”
Anotha Q-Red production; can we keep it up? >>> Thought this sounded like him, but it ain’t? Was he a song off fa each # on tha tracklist? It sounds like an above-average-soundin’ beat, tho… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it decent… I’ont fuck wit tha lyrics, at times; boring “money” and doin’ it fa other people-type shit… Hearin’ tha hook and it just a regular-soundin’ hook with nothin’ much ta offer. I do like that you made “Bet” tha title, but why? Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it ain’t too bad; a lil’ betta with tha street life… My Rating: 3.7

½time: Looks like you’re on an above-decent track, here, as far as your production and tracks go. Nothin’ too bad, here; most sounds good. So far, you’re at a 3.9 for tha CD rating; hope it don’t go down…

06. “Stepped On”
Q-Red on tha beat! >>> Yup, this him, this time! Sounds like anotha pure beat fa Baton Rouge! Even how you comin’ through on tha hook’s pretty nice! Diggin’ tha steppin’! Nice job with tha 1st verse, here; nice energy deliverin’ tha rhymes, too! Keepin’ it goin’ wit tha 2nd verse, too, soundin’ great like tha 1st verse… Random laughter at tha end? Wish I could be that happy at times, again… My Rating: 4.2

07. “Bootin’ In This”
>>> Q-Red did this beat and it sounds like it gon be anticipatin’! Only 1:33 on tha length? Sounds nice with this hook; I like this betta than tha previous joint! Great job with tha verse, spittin’ some fiya… A beat outro and 12 seconds of silence at tha end… My Rating: 4.3

08. “Murder (Remix)” feat. 21 Savage
Q-Red doin’ tha track…? You’re from Baton Rouge’s undaground, so no 22? And, 21 a mainstream one; how you have these connections? >>> Nope, not Q-Red, but DJ Swift, again; where was he goin’ with tha #’s? Sounds good with tha hook, here, whether it sounds familiar or not… Still, you sound nice on tha 1st verse, too… Hearin’ 21 on tha 2nd verse and it sounds good and almost an undaground feelin’, here… He kinda laidback with tha delivery but it’s still nice… It honestly makes me feel like this completely undaground, here; I can appreciate it… My Rating: 4.3

09. “All I Want” feat. 3Three
Q-Red On The Track on tha track…? >>> No beat tag; fail! Decent/betta-than-decent beat, here… Hearin’ tha hook and it ain’t bad; kinda calm with tha delivery, despite tha “strap” content? Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it ain’t bad; it flows nice with this beat… Tha 2nd verse ain’t too bad… Tha quiet vibe of this track’s kinda draggin’… My Rating: 3.7

10. “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop”
>>> Decent start with tha beat and what you’re bringin’ to tha table with tha 1st verse… Tha hook decent; nothin’ special wit this one, here… And, a 2nd verse, here, soundin’ decent… This one prolly could’ve used tha Q-Red punches ta spice thangz up… My Rating: 3.4

Overall: Looks to me like this your best release, so far, despite almost no features… Q-Red helped out a good portion of your tracks, here, so you weren’t sinkin’ in tha decent/below-average range. Also, your non-Q-Red tracks were decent/not wack, for tha most part, so that’s a plus. We’ll see how you hold it down fa tha future…

Rankings:

10.       “Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop” 3.4
09.       “Bet” 3.7
08.       “All I Want” feat. 3Three 3.7

Review #1,589: NBA YoungBoy "38 Baby"

Reviewed on 11.07.2016 (Review #1,589)

Got a few more NBA YoungBoy reviewz left. This next one’s 38 Baby, his 4th release… Start Time: 7:34 PM | End Time: 8:20 PM

01. “How I Live”
Q-Red production! >>> Off to an anticipatin’ start with a Q-Red beat ta kick thangz off… Beat sounds nice and slightly different fa Q-Red, here… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it sounds nice; lots ta offer… My Rating: 3.8

02. “38 Baby”
Li’ Torie beat… Let’s hear this! >>> Whoeva tha producer iz, I confused them on tha Mind Of A Menace 2 CD with Q-Red… Sounds like I can appreciate this, even tho it has tha same kinda formula from most of your other tracks… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it ain’t bad; I can dig it… Hearin’ tha hook and tha title’s so random fa me; sounds like a lotta randomness that can be qualified as ‘tight’. And, transitionin’ to tha 2nd verse outta nowhere, here… I like how you referenced “Q-Red” about bein’ “a producer,” too. My Rating: 3.7

03. “Hell & Back”
Drell On The Track, here… >>> Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it ain’t bad with how you’re comin’ through wit this laidback rap vibe… Tha beat has a laidback vibe but it sounds like you’re just rappin’ this like it had any kinda beat tempo… Hearin’ tha hook and it just decent fa me… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it almost sounds like you have a Young Thug voice, sometimes. It’s like, previously, you jacked tha flow; now, tha voice? My Rating: 3.0

04. “Ride Out”
DJ Chose beat… >>> Sounds like a decent start. I’ont get it… You kick thangz off with a Q-Red beat ta stay on track and then, you have unknown producers/calm-soundin’ beats? I’ono… It’s not terrible but it’s not gonna spark me… Hearin’ tha hook and it not too bad; a lil’ catchy… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds like you got a lot ta spit; just NBA in his random perspectives… Tha 2nd verse even more random with tha random mumblin’…; WTF? My Rating: 3.1
EDIT: I ain’t look at tha back cover during tha whole review… DJ Chose did this beat and I ain’t realize who he was, at first…

05. “H.A.M.”
Tahj $ beat… >>> Sounds like tha Zaytoven style again, on tha production… Hearin’ tha hook and it sounds good… I see how it stands for Hear About Me; nice! Like, tha “M” didn’t stand for “money,” ROFL?!? Shocker!!! Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it sounds good; I dig this vibe with tha random rhymes… Ick @ tha start to tha 2nd verse: “Chasin’ dat money;” virus?! Decent verse, tho… My Rating: 3.7

06. “Gravity”
Dun Deal beat; ehh… >>> Decent beat; nothin’ to comment on… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it aight; nothin’ too special with this vibe… Ehh!! Tha 2nd ½ of this song sounds like random mumblin’! I’m, like, half-awake from all tha drivin’ & bein’ loaded, yesterday. It’s like, where are tha super producers of Baton Rouge?! Enough wit these random-soundin’ tracks! My Rating: 2.4

07. “Up In Blood” feat. Boosie Badazz
Ken!! A sellout feature, here; I’ono, but at least keep me awake! >>> Well, all my bitchin’ from tha last song’s review must’ve paid off ‘cause $hop With Ken doin’ this beat… Sounds like a pretty-good start; strong production and nice hook! Definitely some of that Baton Rouge-soundin’ shit, here, wit tha “blood!” Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds nice, too… At times, it kinda sounds like tha typical shit you hear—ahh, I’m gettin’ lost in all your fast rappin’!! And, Boosie on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through wit his usual self: Great content, great lyrics, flow delivered to tha max & handlin’ tha beat well; nothin’ new… My Rating: 3.8

½time: No 4.0’s, so far!! Waaahhhh! What’s goin’ on, here? Well, most of tha tracks sound a lil’ below-average while tha others sound decent… If they’re decent, there prolly was one thing to turn me off on ‘em… Either way, nice job with tha original production, at times, as well as what you bring to tha table that’s tight… A 3.4-rated CD, so far; ehh…

08. “My Kind Of Night”
Yung Lan beat… >>> Forgot about this producer, even tho I have some shit of theirs, but I forget who it was by… Either way, a decent beat and decent hook… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds like rap that’s nothing special… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and as soon as I hear “Instagram” in rhymes, I instantly think of sellin’ out! I just think this song just aight, basically… My Rating: 3.2
EDIT: When I forgot who tha Yung Lan beat was by, earlier, I ain’t realize it was Fat Trel “My Bruvaz”, from last year… I had a feelin’ it wasn’t gon be a Louisiana artist from what I previously heard it from!

09. “What I Was Taught”
Li’ Torie beat… >>> Kickin’ it off wit a hook, here… I’m feelin’ this Baton Rouge vibe, here, wit how you’re comin’ through on tha flow of tha hook and how this beat iz… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds like you’re holdin’ it down wit all these rhymes… Even tho I fucked with tha 1st verse, just hearin’ you rap all this shit on tha 2nd verse fast just iz like, “Ahh! Fast rappin’ fa no reason!!” Kinda sounded weird with how you delivered tha shit near tha end of tha 2nd verse, Young Boy… My Rating: 3.6

10. “Like Me” feat. Kevin Gates & Stroke Tha Don
Let’s see, here… You up’d your length of tha track all tha way up to 4:16! Cashmoney AP & King Leeboy beat… >>> Beat kinda plain and non-Louisiana, smh! It ain’t bad, but nothin’ to spark my attention! Hearin’ tha hook and it sounds mumble-rap wit you on it, smh. Just ‘cause Gates on your song doesn’t mean you have to mention “money,” smh!! Wow, I shook my head three times before I could even get to tha 1st verse, smh! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s just you throwin’ random rhymes out there, quickly… Hearin’ Gates on tha 2nd verse and it’s exactly how I tell you: RANDOMNESS!!! I’ono why err-body think they can just rap fast and consider it tight! Neva heard tha Stroke dude but how he kicked off tha 3rd verse made me wanna throw up! “Threw 20 bands on my wrist”? But, no one could afford $20 for a mixtape appearance on my mixtapes that I had to stop ‘em, smh? Love how his verse was shorter… Ehh, it ain’t mean much to me, anyway… My Rating: 3.5

11. “For It”
OG Parker beat… >>> Forget about commentin’ tha production; sounds like everything else! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it ain’t bad; I can fuck wit tha vibe… Tha hook sounds nice fa everythang “for it,” as far as what you wanna do… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it sounds decent, even tho there’s so much bein’ rapped… My Rating: 3.5

12. “Down Chick” feat. 3Three
Rico Finesse beat… >>> Anotha beat that sounds like everything else… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s pretty bad with how you sound! “She says she like how I be swaggin’;” ugh! Just how you say, “Swaggin’!!” Hearin’ tha 1st verse and I ain’t diggin’ how your voice has ta sound like it has a lil’ bit of auto-tune in it, smh! I can’t get inta this… Almost thought 3Three was gonna be a chick ‘cause of tha title, here… Well, nothin’ sparkin’ my attention with this dude, too; must be your brother? I don’t even hear anything special comin’ outta their rhymes… My God, a 3rd verse? I thought you only did two-verse tracks? Even one verse would be good enough! Okay, enough of this! My Rating: 1.4

13. “I Ain’t Hiding”
Dubba-AA beat… >>> Beat sounds a lil’ betta than some of tha previous ones on here, even tho it a lil’ quiet… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds nice… Finally, we don’t have mumblin’, auto-tune, fast rappin’ or randomness! Hearin’ tha hook and it sounds like a nice lil’ undaground hook, I guess? Wanna think of a not-big rapper, not a sellout/tons-of-followers rapper! Tha 2nd verse ain’t too bad, but you tryna hit that fast rappin’ again! Not tha worst, but not tha best! My Rating: 3.7

14. “They Ain’t With Me”
RL Beatz beat… >>> Sounds like a good beat intro, but can you hold it down? You don’t even have a 4.0 on this CD, yet! Might as well consider this a fail with its Young Thug-ass, smh! That’s what it sounds like to “me,” with tha 1st verse… And, what else can I say about this? That beat sometimes makes me wanna like this a lil’ more but no, it won’t happen! Tha 2nd verse sounds a lil’ more normal from you, but that about it… My Rating: 3.3

Overall: Really, this was all only decent fa me, here… A couple tracks were a lil’ on tha wacker side, but most of this wasn’t for me/was decent/somethin’ was wrong with almost each track… We’ll see how you do with tha new CD you just dropped, Mind Of A Menace 3. I seen that Q-Red produced a bunch of tracks on there, so you might have a chance!
