Review #1,688: L.O.C. "Da Story: Chapter 1"

Reviewed on 3.18.2017 (Review #1,688)

Happy 52nd day in a row of reviewin’ CDs & only eight more dayz till my dream comes true!! Luckily, tha snow meltin’, so it ain’t so bad, outside! For now, here goes my review fa L.O.C. Da Story; Chapter 1, released in 1998 on Lockdouwn Records! Happy Birthday, BluBlack!! Start Time: 1:55 AM | End Time: 3:03 AM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> “ iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> “ iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. Intro
>>> Sounds like a nice lil’ beat ta kick thangz off! My Rating: N/A

02. “Can’t Be Stopped”
>>> Nice beat and it sounds nice on tha 1st verse, here! Tha 1st verse sounds a lil’ quiet but interesting, tho; feelin’ what’s goin’ on, here! Definitely feelin’ tha secret, mysterious vibe, too! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it sounds pretty nice ta hear, here… More of tha 2nd verse sounds dope ta hear, too; definitely feelin’ this one, right chea!! My Rating: 4.5

03. “Dreamsellaz”
>>> Sounds nice wit this beat; good 1st verse goin’ on, here… Tha hook’s pretty tight wit how they tell “stories” and shit like that; crazy shit… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s pretty nice, too… Tha 3rd verse’s pretty nice ta hear, as well; nice shit… My Rating: 4.2

04. “Secret Admirer” feat. Cupid
>>> Sounds like an okay slow beat, here… Tha hook ain’t too bad with who’s singin’, here; first-time appearance? Hearin’ tha 1st verse from you and it sounds decent wit what you’re bringin’, here… Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ nice ta hear, here… And, we got tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ decent, as well… My Rating: 3.8

05. “Club Don’t Close ‘Til 2”
>>> Beat’s upbeat, here; not bad… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice ta hear wit what you’re bringin’, here… Sounds like a pretty dope hook, here; nice lil’ “club” track wit a laidback twist… And, tha 2nd verse’s pretty nice wit what you’re comin’ through with, here… Nice job wit tha 3rd verse, here, comin’ through wit some good shit… My Rating: 4.1

06. “Black N Mild” feat. Monique
>>> Random chatter, here… Tha hook’s pretty nice wit tha “blow me in, blow me out,” as far as tha “smoke;” good shit. Tha 1st verse sounds decent, here, wit this more-laidback vibe… Tha 2nd verse ain’t too bad, here, neither; good shit… My Rating: 3.7

07. “Survival”
>>> Sounds nice and creepy in tha beginning, here; definitely a plus! Sounds like a dope lil’ hook; great representation!! “Whaaat?!?” Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice ta hear wit what you’re bringin’, here! “Survival!!” Nice job wit tha 2nd verse, too; good shit bein’ brought, here! Hearin’ tha 3rd verse and it’s pretty nice ta hear, as well; nice shit… My Rating: 4.4

08. Nightmare On Radcliffe feat. Punch Daddy
>>> Sounds nice wit this lil’ interlude; more like joy, not a “nightmare?” My Rating: N/A

09. “U.S.L.”
>>> “University of Sexy Ladies!” A nice lil’ darker sound of tha laidback vibe, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it ain’t too bad, here… Sounds like a nice lil’ southern vibe on tha 2nd verse, here; gotta keep it goin’… And, a 3rd verse, here, soundin’ decent, too… My Rating: 4.0

½time: I’m diggin’ this CD, right chea! Definitely a nice lil’ undaground joint fa tha N.O., here, as it has a 4.1 rating for tha CD rating, so far! Definitely keep tha undaground vibes goin’!!

10. “Fame, Fortune N Flows”
>>> This sounds like it has a nice lil’ undaground, laidback vibe, too… Sounds nice wit tha 1st verse, here; flow and vibe’s definitely on point, here! Tha hook’s pretty nice and it’s true! Wish people wouldn’t worry about tha “dolla” and shit like that! Celebrity status ain’t just about that! It’s about tha consistency you bring to tha table! Think: Aside from my nap, I got less than three hours of sleep and I have an 11-hour shift ta do! I also woke up early ta do this review! I ain’t go back ta sleep, I got up to review!! People, wake up!! Your work ethic’s important!!! With that bein’ said, tha 2nd verse’s pretty nice, too… Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ pretty nice, too; gotta dig it… My Rating: 4.2

11. “Levels Of Reality”
>>> Sounds like a nice lil’ beat, here… Tha hook’s pretty dope, here, detectin’ those “levels,” as far as “reality” goes! Now, we got tha 1st verse, here, and it sounds pretty nice, here… More consistent rhymes comin’ outta tha 2nd verse, too; good shit… My Rating: 4.0

12. Oh Death
>>> Nice lil’ speech ova this eerie-soundin’ beat interlude… My Rating: N/A

13. “Why” feat. Saint
>>> A slow track, here; let’s see how it goes… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice wit what you’re bringin’, here… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s a nice lil’ G-Funk-soundin’ voice, here; nice voice! And, we got tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ decent ta hear, too… And, tha 3rd verse’s pretty nice ta hear, as well… My Rating: 3.9

14. “P.I.M.P.” feat. Big Will
>>> Anotha nice, laidback, G-Funk-soundin’ beat, here, wit a catchy hook… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice, here… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s pretty dope wit what’s bein’ displayed, here… Tha rest of this iz pretty nice, especially tha conversation with “Mr. Ghost Man!” My Rating: 3.7

15. “Scratch” feat. Coleon & Teflon
>>> Sounds like a decent lil’ 1st verse, here, with a decent beat… Almost sounds like a conversation, which iz dope… Tha rest of this kinda random; I’ono… Lots of rhymes ta offer on a track like this, it sounds like… My Rating: 3.3

16. “Gz N Playaz”
>>> Beat’s a touch betta, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it ain’t that bad, here… I’ono, tha vibes were a lil’ betta in tha beginning of this CD? Not sayin’ this bad but sometimes, it drags… Tha dedicated hook sounds decent ta transition tha verses, here; not bad… Tha 2nd verse ain’t too bad, here; nice wit tha vibe, here… My Rating: 3.5

17. Bring Da Drama
>>> Sounds nice wit this interlude vibe, here… Diggin’ tha dark-soundin’ beat, speakin’ & bombs goin’ off in tha background, here! My Rating: N/A

18. “Drama”
>>> I like tha smooth transition and it sounds dope with tha beat, here! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice wit how y’all comin’ through wit this undaground, cold vibe! Seems like it’s draggin’ fa 5:23 on tha length…; most of this just sounds decent ta get by to… My Rating: 3.6

Overall: Mostly good tracks wit a few decent ones… Definitely feelin’ tha undaground vibes fa tha N’awlinz, here! Tha future iz near!! Hope you’re still doin’ ya thang, to this day!!
