Review #1,679: II Loaded "Don't Play No Games!"

Reviewed on 3.13.2017 (Review #1,679)

Happy 47th day in a row of reviewin’ CDs & only 13 more dayz till my dream comes true!! Keepin’ these reviewz goin’ with II Loaded Don’t Play No Games!, released in 1998 on DangerZone Entertainment & was produced by Merrill “Real Roc” Robinson! Start Time: 6:39 AM | End Time: 7:19 AM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> “ iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> “ iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

02. “Don’t Play No Games”
>>> Sounds like a nice lil’ beat, here, fa tha south… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice wit what you’re comin’ through with… And, tha 2nd verse’s pretty nice, too, wit how you’re comin’ through wit this… And, tha 3rd verse’s nice ta hear, as well; good shit! My Rating: 4.1

03. “Drama” feat. JMD
My boy, JMD!! >>> Sounds like a nice lil’ gangsta-soundin’ beat fa tha 5-0-4, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s soundin’ nice, here; good shit… Tha hook sounds nice ta hear, as far as this gangsta shit; good shit! And, tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ nice ta hear, here, as it continues ta bring that gangsta vibe… And, tha 3rd verse’s pretty nice, here! From tha “frontyard” to tha “streets,” ya dig? My Rating: 4.3

04. “Blakk & Mild”
>>> Sounds like a dope beat start, here; good shit… Diggin’ how you comin’ through on tha 1st verse, here; sounds nice ta hear… And, tha hook flows nicely wit tha 1st verse, as you’re keepin’ this sound comin’ along… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s soundin’ nice ta hear, as well… Tha 3rd verse’s soundin’ a lil’ catchy, too; good job, here… I’m likin’ how tha ending says, “Where ya blakk & mild’s at?” Oh, it makes me miss shmokin’ wit my boy, Cory!! Free Cory!! My Rating: 4.4

05. “Fuck Whutcha ‘Bout”
>>> Sounds nice, here, even tho tha beat a lil’ quieter? Still, a nice bassline… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s good ta hear you keepin’ this shit on-n-poppin’… Tha hook sounds like it flows wit tha verses, once again; great lil’ hook! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s pretty nice, here, as you continue to do ya thang, here… And, tha 3rd verse’s soundin’ rapid, here; fast rhymes! My Rating: 4.2

06. “Thugz On Drugz”

07. “She Gotta Meat Mouth”
>>> Sounds like anotha dope beat, here; good shit… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s that N.O. shit at its finest, here! Lol @ this hook and this “meat mouth;” on lock, here, lol! Or, let’s just say that “tha sugar guy was on, last night!!,” lol! 08. “Us Niggaz”

Startin’ ta sound a lil’ slow, here… Let’s see what we got wit tha 3rd verse, here… Aight, a lil’ “greedy,” but at tha same time, “on a come-up,” of course… My Rating: 4.0

½time: A 4.3-rated CD, so far; great production, great how you comin’ through wit it and nice appearance from JMD!

09. “Do You Believe”
>>> Not really feelin’ tha typical “my soul to keep” shit, on tha hook; heard it plenty of times… Either way, this a nice-soundin’ beat, here, wit these sounds… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice, here; good shit… Almost sounds like a random-soundin’ 2nd verse, here, but it ain’t that bad, here… Hearin’ tha 3rd verse and it’s soundin’ kinda random, here… Ehh, I’ono, just randomly spittin’ shit? My Rating: 3.8

10. “Project Hoez”
>>> Sounds aight, here; not bad wit tha 1st verse and what you’re comin’ through with, here… Hearin’ tha hook and it sounds quiet? Why do some of these vocals start soundin’ quieter, as I get more and more into tha CD? Hearin’ tha 2nd verse, here, and it’s not too bad, as well… My Rating: 3.7

11. “Fare Well Boyz R.I.P.”
>>> A lil’ slow, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and you statin’ some facts, here, even tho I’m not big about “R.I.P.” tracks… Oh no, not a “Missing You”-remade hook…; ehh… Tha rest of this ain’t too bad, here; decent shit… My Rating: 3.4

12. “Thuggin’-N-Public”
>>> Can be good but sounds like a bunch of fast rappin’, here; I’ono… Nice “Girbauds” and “fresh kicks” shit, tho… Tha hook sounds pretty dope, here! “Fuckin’ right, fuckin’ right! We be thuggin’ in public!” Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and you got some nice shit goin’ on, here; good shit! Hearin’ tha 3rd verse and it gives me a C-Murder-type vibe, here; good shit! My Rating: 4.4

13. “Swervin’” (JMD)
JMD solo joint!! >>> Sounds like it gon be a tight joint, here; definitely diggin’ tha hook! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds like JMD comin’ through wit some nice shit, here… A lotta random rappin’, here? Still, it’s nice ta hear… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and JMD got some nice shit on lock, here… I know of this bein’ JMD ‘cause on March 7, 2014, I got a hold of him and he was givin’ me tha rundown of thangz… My Rating: 4.2

R.I.P. Video #31: Elton "June" Wicker, Jr. (Tombstone Records President)

From tha cemetery in Peckville, PA, it's FrankieThaLuckyDog here, remembering a legend in tha undaground, Louisiana rap game today. Today, April 25, 2014, marks 16 years since tha untimely murder of Elton "June" Wicker, Jr., tha president of Tombstone Records. A New Orleans native, Wicker attended Joseph S. Clark High School and Americo Technical Institute, as well as working at Southern Scrap and Popeyes's Chicken & Biscuits. While working, he had a dream of creating a record label. His dream came true when he formed Tombstone Records, which was named after tha George P. Cosmatos film. Tha dream continued to expand when he founded tha Tombstone Basketball League and Cool Spot Baseball League. Wicker was also a volunteer for tha Goretti Saints.

Wicker was a member of tha New Orleans rap group, Da Mobstas, with High Top, Lil' Boo & Y.G.. In total, Tombstone Records had eight releases: In 1994, Da Mobstas' Tripple Beam; in 1995, Cheeky Blakk's Let Me Get That Outcha, Felony's Gansta Tail, Lokee's I Got Dis; in 1996, 2 Blakk's Represent 4 Life, Cheeky Blakk's Fuck Bein' Faithful, L.O.G.'s G's & Soldiers & Lokee's Voodoo Gangsta Funk. Most of tha production on Tombstone was provided by Merrill "Real Roc" Robinson, while additional production was provided by DJ Tee, Ice Mike, Lokee & Mannie Fresh.

Tombstone became in jeopardy on November 14, 1997, when vice president of tha label, Sandy "Patrick" Price, Jr., was shot and killed in New Orleans at only 23 years-old. Then, sadly, on April 25, 1998, just as Wicker was exiting Roosevelt's on North Claiborne, he was approached by a stranger who asked for a light. While being approached, a drive-by shooter sprayed bullets, killing Wicker at only 32 years-old. Wicker has two kids: A son, Elton Wicker III, and a daughter, Kerrionne Wicker. Elton "June" Wicker would've been 48 if he was still alive today.

After Wicker's death, Tombstone was transformed into DangerZone Entertainment, which had three releases: In 1998, II Loaded's Don't Play No Games!; in 2001, Busbak's Retaliation; and, in 2003, All Night Flightaz Dat Drama. All Night Flightaz iz a supergroup that consists of JMD, Busbak & II Loaded.
