Review #1,887: Mr. Ivan "Resurrection"

Reviewed on 12.20.2019 (Review #1,887)

Comin’ up next in my Louisiana Reviewz Marathon, I have tha late Mr. Ivan Resurrection, released in 1999 on Bang’n Records & Don B Productions…! Now, yesterday marked 12 years since Ivan passed away. For those that ain’t see tha tribute video, it’s here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZaEcCwq2Es. It was shot at a unique place (at tha abandoned Belchertown State School for tha Feeble Minded in Belchertown, MA); did it in honor of Ivan (tha look)! Now, with that bein’ said, here goes tha review! Start Time: 11:54 PM | End Time: 1:07 AM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

Y’all got shit on lock, here!! My Rating: 4.8

03. “Pass Da Ruger” feat. Don B & Laddie
Producer: Don B & Ivan Newton
>>> Beat’s pretty nice & your aggression’s off tha chain, once again!! Such a dope verse from you, here! Like, what were you on?! Hot shit!! Tha hook’s pretty nice, as it transitions to tha next dude, strictly doin’ tha damn thang on tha 2nd verse & on tha hook witchu! Tha 3rd verse’s pretty dope, as well; undeniable!! My Rating: 4.7

04. “9th Ward”
Producer: Don B
>>> Pretty dope G-Funk beat, here; let’s see what you got (can’t wait)! Dope/grimy 1st verse, here! Even right b4 tha hook, it’s pretty serious wit tha deep-pitched voice! Also, I like tha simple “9th Ward killa” part, on tha hook; simple & from a street chick, as well! Got you on tha 2nd verse, here, comin’ through wit tha gutta-ass gangsta shit; gotta luv it!! Keepin’ it goin’ wit tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ pretty dope wit tha grimy shit continuin’…! My Rating: 4.8

07. “Why We Gotta Die” feat. Don B, Joseph Keller & Ron B
Producer: Don B
>>> Sounds a lil’ more soulful on tha intro, here…? Beat sounds good fa a rap/borderline R&B-type, tho… Hearin’ tha 1st verse & it aight; not inta depressin’ songs, tho… Tha hook ain’t bad fa me, here; it sux wit dyin’, tho… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & it’s ehh…; decent lil’ verse, tho I’m not into tha “sad songs.” Got you on tha 3rd verse & I like how you name all tha fallen souljaz, here; good verse, too… My Rating: 3.2

>>> Nice beat interlude…! My Rating: N/A

10. “Do U Know” feat. CoaCoa
Producer: Don B
>>> Here you come through, kickin’ off tha 1st verse from tha beginning…! Sounds like it gon be a depressin’-kinda track but at least you have aggression, this time… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & it’s not as aggressive as tha 1st verse, so I’ono how much I can appreciate it, if it’s on a sad note… Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 3rd verse & some of tha aggression’s back; good/not bad wit tha content… My Rating: 3.5

½time: Didn’t really go for tha sad songs but other than them, your aggression & rappin’s damn-near perfect!! A 4.4-rated CD, so far; definitely what’s up!! Keep up tha aggression! You prolly lettin’ that pure aggression out in your grave, as we speak! R.I.P.!

12. “No! More Chances” feat. Lyrical & Top
Producer: Don B & Ivan Newton
>>> Luvin’ tha production magic & your aggressive chemistry, once again!! Tha 1st verse goes off, as usual! Got Top on tha 3rd verse, here, comin’ through wit his dope shit fa tha streetz; definitely nice…! My Rating: 4.6

13. “Hit Da Weed” feat. Don B, Graveyard Soldjas & Top
Producer: Don B
>>> Can’t wait ta hear dis high anthem!! Dope intro, as well as Don B’s beat! “What we gonna do? Just throw it away?!” Luv that statement; gotta use it!! Can’t believe there’s so-called ‘people’ out there that would “throw it away!” Shame!! Hearin’ tha 1st verse & it sounds good; feelin’ tha “hella-red” eyez & shit! Got anotha part to tha 1st verse; so glad you got a hold of tha Graveyard Soldjas! Definitely tha shit, right chea! You know what it iz! Tha 3rd part of tha 1st verse’s dope ta hear, as well; great contribution! Nothin’ but a celebration, here! Still wanna meet tha Graveyard Soldjas & do it big wit ‘em, one day! Here you are on tha 4th part of tha 1st verse, here, comin’ through wit your aggressive, Earth-shmokin’ vibes; luv it! Got Top finishin’ off tha 1st verse with its 5th part, here, comin’ through wit some hot shit; good shit! Luvin’ tha pace of tha flows, too! Iz that a 6th part of tha 1st verse, here? Almost thought it was gonna end but no, Graveyardin’ it wit dem Soldjas!! Oh shit, a 7th part!!! Keep it goin’; “my mind fucked up!!” Oh yeah!! My Rating: 4.7

14. “Retaliation”
Producer: Don B
>>> Sounds dope wit this vibe; diggin’ tha fast-rapped 1st verse…! Hearin’ tha hook and it’s a catchy vibe wit tha “Retaliation;” I know what dat be like! Gotta get what’s yours (or, at least try)! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & it’s soundin’ nice ta hear wit your aggressive-ass, here; dope! Hearin’ tha 3rd verse & you keep this shit up like it’s no problem; gotta luv dat! My Rating: 4.3

15. “Back In My Life” feat. Don B & Swamp Click
Producer: Don B
>>> Sounds like a laidback, sad-type song? Beat cool fa a slowie… This 1st verse sound str8; all about growin’ up… Tha hook’s kinda dry; no comment on it… Well, I will comment that as I look “Back In My Life,” I like to be proud of tha moments that influenced me! I’m here to proceed even bigger! With that bein’ said, here you are on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through as a “1973” baby, here; good lil’ verse & voice… Hearin’ tha 3rd verse & it str8; kinda bores me, tho, wit this slow vibe… My Rating: 3.7

16. “I’m Da Shit”
Producer: Don B & Ivan Newton
>>> Anotha nice collab wit Don B (& you, too!) on tha beat, as well as you rappin’! Definitely dope wit your aggressive-ass! Tha verse was pretty dope but this hook’s pretty hot wit how you say, “I’m Da Shit!!!” My Rating: 4.7

17. “Who U Fuckin’ Wit”
Producer: Don B
>>> Like I always say, you & Don B got shit on lock, all tha way round!! Anotha dope banga wit a dope-ass 1st verse goin’ on, here!! Actually, only one verse & a dope hook; great job!! My Rating: 4.6

18. “Touch Me, Tease Me” feat. CoaCoa, Don B & Skandalust
Producer: Don B & Sneek
>>> Sounds like a hot production, once again…! Hearin’ tha 1st verse & it ain’t too bad, here; diggin’ tha aggression, of course! Skandalust on tha 2nd part of tha 1st verse, here… Sounds good ta collab wit, even tho I’d rather have that one aggressive bitch, from earlier in this CD…! Female singin’ toward tha end, as well; not bad ta end this track off… My Rating: 4.0

Hearin’ tha hook and it’s dope fa da Gz, here; good shit! Sounds like Laddie on tha 2nd verse, here, comin’ through wit his gutta-ass, grimy-ass shit fa dem N’awlinerz! Hearin’ mo from you afta Laddie & it’s dope wit this continuous aggression! You know what it iz…! My Rating: 4.6

20. “Next Bang’n CD Release (Sampler)”
Producer: Don B
>>> 1st track sounds pretty dope, here; I’ll give it a plus (4.5)! Tha 2nd track has more of a G-Funk vibe, as well as your gangsta-soundin’ gunshots goin’ off; dope! I’ll give it a betta plus (4.6)! Tha 3rd track sounds pretty good wit this gangsta-soundin’ beat; nice job! Feelin’ what you bringin’, here (4.4)! If I averaged all tha ratings, it comes out to a 4.5, here! My Combined Rating: 4.5

Overall: Tha aggression was off tha hook on here, bruh!! Definitely felt tha tracks, even tho tha sad/slower ones weren’t really up my alley… Either way, you’re definitely missed; this aggression goes a long way!! Baleedat! You & Don B know how good chemistry works!!

R.I.P. Video #43: Mr. Ivan

Broadcasting from tha abandoned Belchertown State School for tha Feeble Minded in Belchertown, MA, it's ya boy, FrankieThaLuckyDog here, with a special edition of one of my tribute videos... Today marks eight years since tha sudden death of New Orleans, LA rapper, Mr. Ivan, and now, we're goin' to present you with a lil' tribute:

Today, December 19, 2015, marks eight years since New Orleans, LA native, Ivan Alonzo Newton, known in tha music world as Mr. Ivan, passed away from AIDS complications at only 34 years-old. Known for always wearing a hockey mask, Newton was one of tha early-signed Cash Money Records artists throughout tha '90s. After bein' connected with fellow N'awlins'er, Don B, Newton would go on to sign with Don B's Bang'n Records, where he released his 2nd album, Resurrection, in 1999, also on Don B Productions. Newton would then move on to form his own label, Mask Entertainment, and released his 3rd and final album, Chapter II, Page I, in 2004 on tha label. Review #987: Graveyard Soldjas "Love & Hate"

Reviewed on 6.09.2011 (Review #987)

Got a special review for #3: Graveyard Soldjas!! You know they’re one of my favorite groups of all time!!! Here’s my review for their “Love & Hate” CD, released on Adversity Recording Company!!! Start Time: 4:56 PM | End Time: 6:00 PM

Quick Note: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion!! I only please myself wit my ratings!! I don’t care how lyrical you are! As long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much REALLY LOVE it as it’s considered “mindblowin’” when I hear it. Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song. Anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it.

01. “Love (Intro)”
What y’all got goin’ on, here?! >>> Clean intro? Sounds good fa tha 1st 16 seconds but iz much betta once tha rappin’ begins!!! These are consistent-ass rhymes dat can’t be denied!!! My Rating: 4.6

02. “Addicted”
Played this on my radio show; you know I went duffy in dat thang!! Now, lemme review it! >>> Of course, you got your anticipatin’ beat fa tha start! Also, you got your kick-ass hook wit consistency on tha mic!! Editin’ ya songs iz hard as a bitch but it builds patience in me, ya dig? Tha 1st verse sounds pretty bad-ass wit tha shit y’all bringin’ inta play as far as people gettin’ “addicted!” Damn, this verse’s goin’ on ‘n’ on ‘n’ on ‘n’ on!!! I like tha “particles” part; nothin’ but consistent-ass rhymin’, here!!! Y’all didn’t get chosen ta this “game” and now, y’all “addicted” to it; interestin’! BTW, nothin’ traps me; I always stay consistent wit my shit!! Tha 2nd verse iz pretty kick-ass, too; keep all these rhymes up!!! My Rating: 4.7

03. “In Tha South”
Let’s hear it!! >>> Smooth start wit tha beat… Ooh, sounds good wit those background vocals from tha gurl! Almost sounded like a lil’ kid but it’s a gurl, soundin’ good wit y’all!
