Review #217: MC Thick "The Show Ain't Over Till The Fatman Swings"

Reviewed on 5.26.2009 (Review #217)

Frankie's back up in this bitch. Back in Long Island, NY now after bein' at my aunt's cabin fa tha Memorial Day weekend. Now, switchin' up to my marathon 'til tha weekend. Here's tha next one on my list: MC Thick "The Show Ain't Over Till The Fatman Swings"! Talk about a long title... Prolly tha most words in a title I've eva reviewed! Start Time: 11:26 AM | End Time: 1:17 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me or have auto-tune in your vocals, I’m not buyin’ it!

01. "The Show Ain't Over Till The Fatman Swings"
Startin' off wit tha title track here... I wonder how good of a rapper you are... >>> Doesn't exactly sound Louisianaish at first, but then again, this '93. I like tha flowin' on tha 1st verse, and tha lyrics sound good; "microphone savage!" I like tha start to tha 2nd verse wit "I'ma be bossman!" Tha 2nd verse iz goin' hard wit tha way you rappin' this shit; nice job! Nice start to tha 3rd verse too! I like tha "like locus" line. I like how you say tha title right before tha verses end! Nice ending wit tha crowd. My Rating: 4.1

02. "Portrait Of A Fiend"
Tha title reminds me of one of tha recent tapes I reviewed in tha marathon... Betta yet, it's nearly tha same title as tha Lower Level Organization title (they have a "Portrait Of A Villain" song). I'm lookin' forward to hearin' yours! I rated theirs 3.9, so we'll see what yours'll be; I predict higher! >>> Tha beat iz slower here than tha last song I heard from you just now. Tha start to tha 1st verse sounded good wit tha title, and tha lyrics you be spittin' about this "fiend" sounds TIGHT! Nice job on tha 1st verse, and that part wit tha electronic computer goin' on (or whateva it was) wit tha "money, muthafucka" part was somethin' different; good job fa puttin' it in here. Tha 2nd verse iz soundin' pretty good too. "All about money" on this shit wit tha 2nd verse. Good job, and nice ending to tha verse wit tha "he prays he stop payin'." Interesting lyrics goin' on in tha 3rd verse too here. It's dedicated to a girl this time, so interesting to hear this. Also, how tha gurl died "in tha portrait of a fiend" was REAL interesting to hear! You DEFINITELY made this an interesting song! I gotta go to tha bathroom real quick (due to my feet touchin' cold ground, which iz retarded), so I'll be back... My Rating: 4.3

03. "Just Like A Niguh"
Should be anotha great song... >>> Anotha great song from you, especially when talkin' about a person in tha 1st verse; nice job. Anotha interesting verse comin' at me wit tha 2nd verse wit about someone else a.k.a. tha title. Tha 3rd verse was good too, as you kept tha consistency goin'. My Rating: 4.0

04. "From The Brick Jungle"
Ooh, a VERY INTERESTING "jungle" you're investigating here!! I'm real curious to hear what you gon say! >>> Yea, you're "a rappin' animal," lol. Sounds like tha lyrics are not what I thought they were gonna be... I thought this was about a jungle fulla bricks? Tha hook sounds catchy, and tha beat iz pretty nice. Nothin' to say about tha 2nd verse... Tha 3rd verse sounded a lil' better, although it's off topic of what I thought it was gonna be. I'll still give it some credit though. My Rating: 3.6

05. "It Ain't Easy Bein' Me"
Are you goin' through struggles? Iz that tha answer to tha title? Lemme find out... >>> Nice start to tha 1st verse, makin' "buku cash;" thanx fa bringin' up tha word "buku" up in '93 'cause people in tha ATL think that word iz new or some shit, smh! I'm likin' your flowin' on this song, as it sounds like some of tha previous songs. Oh, and this song's hook has tha "I Get Money" type of sample, so THUMBS DOWN AGAIN ta 50-jackin'-Cent fa doin' anotha Rap vs. Rap wit that sample 'cause you had sampled tha 80's song, then Lil' Flip did, and 50 did it like he was cool, smh. LOL @ tha "I ain't down wit O.P.P., that's S-H-I-T..." line! Plus, that reminded me of tha "HIV" song (I think from Tim Smooth or someone that I reviewed not too long ago in my marathon from tha Early 90's). I don't know if you should've used that sample if "it ain't easy bein' you" 'cause that's a positive sample... Still, nice song here. My Rating: 3.9

06. "Only In America"
What will this song bring? >>> Interesting start to tha 1st verse wit tha "cops" and "video tape" part. Yea, that "white boy" thing you said iz true. If it would've been "a white boy," then it would've been different when capturing a black person. It may suck that black people get targeted more, but black people need to not stereotype themselves by RESISTIN' tha gun shooting, murdering, etc. 'cause it turns out to be like Britney Spears and become Pop wit all tha stories on tha news! Prevent tha stereotyping! Good 1st verse, and tha 2nd verse iz soundin' pretty good too. You're keepin' tha interesting shit up wit tha stories on tha street! Same thing wit tha 3rd verse, so thumbs up. My Rating: 4.0

½time: Off to a good start. You got REAL good lyrics, as well as a real good flow! Keep this shit up! I'm pretty sure I have a lil' more of you in my marathon coming up, so we'll see what happens. Fa now, lemme hear tha remaning 7 songs...

07. "Hustler"
I'm accidently reviewin' this song last. Due to I have tha cassette tape of this tape, tha ½time screwed me up, so I started tha B side instead of rememberin' this song, so tha review was delayed about a 1/2 hour... Now, tha song iz here, and I'm reviewin' it; wonder what it sounds like fa waitin' long! >>> Sounds pretty good fa a start. Ooh, you're "15 years old" on this shit. I didn't say much, but pretty good song. Tha 3rd verse iz pretty good wit tha "white folks/I'm gettin' paid" part. Keepin' that shit from tha last song on a part of this too iz watz good. Great 3rd verse, and nice ending to it. My Rating: 3.9

08. "It's Getting Hard"
I know life iz now, but lemme see what you hollain' about... >>> Sounds like a West Coast start... Ooh, good job wit tha flow and tha "yay" part in tha 1st verse; tha flowin' just keeps gettin' betta!! Tha 2nd verse iz aight, but tha 1st verse was a lot betta. LOL @ tha "cunts" in tha 3rd verse; tha flowin' iz back ta bein' at a peak! Good job, and there's a 4th verse here... Good job, and yeah, it iz "getting hard" these dayz... My Rating: 4.0

09. "T.H.I.C.K."
First, a title track. Now, a nearly self-titled song, lol. Lemme hear how you do it on this one! >>> Goin' hard on this one too! LOL @ "lyrics hard as an erection!" Yea, tha track iz good (or as you say, "thick."). Sounds like betta rappin' goin' on in tha 2nd verse; crazyness!! Tha 2nd verse did go hard, so thumbs up once again fa deliverin' that greatness! You're nothin' to be fucked wit on tha 3rd verse, goin' hard still! My Rating: 4.2

10. "Marrero"
What do we got wit this title? >>> Looks like Mike Jones did a Rap vs. Rap by havin' tha Eazy-E sample 'cause this has that "crusin' down tha street" in tha hook. Great rappin' and rhymes in tha 1st verse. I like tha "I'm tha horror that you dream about when you was a kid" line. Tha 2nd verse iz real, wit all tha shit goin' on in tha hood. There are "muthafuckaz dyin'" and shit, and tha "one day you rollin', next day you're buried" line that describes tha 2nd verse perfect. Good job on tha 3rd verse, and it says "I'm from Marrero," so tha title iz a place I see. Thanx for tha clear up, and fa deliverin' a nice joint here! My Rating: 4.0

11. "You Said It Couldn't Be Done"
Next joint gon sound like...? >>> Pretty decent start that's pretty good. I didn't say much, but this song still keepin' tha consistentness. So, according to tha 3rd verse, you were "20 years old" when you wrote this? That's watz good. I'm 20 now, which means you're 36 now? Shit, that's watz good. I wonder how you're doin' now... Nice beat here. My Rating: 3.8

12. "Leave 'Em Out There"
Should be anotha good joint... >>> Okay 1st verse, and tha hook iz catchy wit tha nice old-type beat. Sounds good like tha otha jointz. Nice job on this shit; thanx fa makin' it catchy. Nice scratchin' at tha end wit tha beat. My Rating: 3.9

13. "Bitch Control"
Tha last song, and I don't know what I'm expectin'... >>> Sounds like a typical female song... Catchy hook at least. Tha 2nd verse sounds better, but not much I can say. There's a 3rd verse... I couldn't really say anything. Thanx for tha catchy hook, but that's all. My Rating: 3.3

Overall: Finally finished tha review (my bad fa missin' #7). Good job, MC Thick. You are DEFINITELY a great rapper from tha 90's, and this tape of yours gets a thumbs up from me!
