Review #1,358: Master P "The Gift"

Reviewed on 12.10.2013 (Review #1,358)

Hopefully, today’ll be tha day where I catch up on tha reviewz… Got Master P The Gift up next, released on No Limit Forever Records. Start Time: 9:27 AM | End Time: 10:47 AM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you use tha word “swag” frequently, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes 100,000x (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it! After I was robbed by an artist who claimed they “get money,” hearin’ about how much you “got money” and anything “money” really bothers me. If you have not done business wit me before, I won’t tolerate “money” talk in tha music!!

01. “Spotlight” Feat. Howie T
Produced by 1500 Or Nothin’; interestin’ name… >>> A slow, R&B-type beat start, but it sounds like it’s turnin’ into an underground style with tha hook; not bad… Hearin’ tha 1st verse, and it sounds like you’re spittin’ official shit; I’m feelin’ what you’re goin’ through and how you’re deliverin’ it. Tha 2nd verse iz pretty nice, too; glad you’re expressin’ “fake” dudes! Thanx fa sayin’ that my “time comin’;” sounds like motivation! My Rating: 4.3

02. “Lonely Road” Feat. Howie T & A.D.
Production from Slikk Muzik, here… >>> Scary start that came too quick. Sounds good with you on tha 1st verse, but it’s startin’ ta sound like Jay-Z & Justin Timberlake’s “Holy Grail” song that Music Choice: Rap just won’t give up! Tha 2nd verse sounds good wit you rappin’ on it; nice and motivated. Despite bein’ thrown-off a lil’ by these songs, tha ratings I’m givin’ these are pretty nice; there’s somethin’ about ‘em… My Rating: 4.2

03. “It’s A Jungle Out Here” Feat. Howie T
Lots of Howie T features…; anotha 1500 Or Nothin’ production. >>> Almost an awkward vocal start, but hearin’ you on tha 1st verse, it sounds pretty nice; feelin’ your lifestyle! “Loadin’ up tha ammo;” gotta luv it, since I’m playin’ Parasite Eve for PlayStation, while I review this! A lil’ hint of some N.O. bounce-like vocals toward tha end of tha 1st verse wit tha, “Trick…!” Nice! Tha hook ain’t too bad, here, from Howie T. I’m feelin’ all this motivated music; sounds like tha soundtrack ta feelin’ motivated, though I feel very unmotivated with my Louisiana connection. Kinda soundin’ like a sellout on tha 2nd verse, here; at least it doesn’t annoy me. My Rating: 3.9

04. “You A Genius” Feat. Alley Boy
1500 Or Nothin’ on tha beat. >>> Great New Orleans feel in tha beat, here! That street shit; let’s see how this continues… Nice hook, too! Feelin’ tha drug shit; glad you don’t age!! Wow, even tha beat’s progressin’ throughout tha hook; nice!! “A chemist on that stove;” yessir! LOL, durin’ tha 2nd hook, I thought Alley Boy was Ace Hood fa a second, goin’, “Ace Hooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood,” ROFL!! Here’s tha Alley Boy on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through wit an okay sound, but I’m feelin’ what he deliverin’! Glad he stayin’ on topic, too! Great outro, too, between a “genius” and a “chemist!” My Rating: 4.6

05. “Two Three” Feat. Rick Ross
Yucky feature, here… BK Productions produced this track. >>> Beat sounds pretty catchy, and you sound great wit your delivery on tha 1st verse!! Jammin’ shit—oh wait, this tha hook, lol! Forgot about tha title; definitely nice!! A lotta “23”—oh, that’s also tha title. Wow, I’m startin’ ta realize what’s goin’ on, afta staring at tha title and hearin’, “23,” a lot! At least it’s betta than tha Mike WiLL/Miley Cyrus/Wiz Khalifa/Juicy J “23”, that Music Choice: Rap’s playin’ out! Anyway, now, we got tha fake Ricky on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through with whateva; it just ‘sounds good,’ as I now say! My Rating: 4.5

06. “Change Ya Life” Feat. Silkk The Shocker & Howie T
#TBT feature of Silkk on tha feature, here…; 1500 Or Nothin’ on tha beat. >>> Again, it has a “Holy Grail” feel to it in tha beat, but I’m likin’ how this sounds. You comin’ through on tha 1st verse, and it sounds good. You braggin’ about your “money” ain’t bad; I can tolerate it. Hearin’ Silkk on tha 2nd verse, here (I can finally tell it’s his voice, lol); consistent… My Rating: 4.0

07. “Holding Back The Years” Feat. Cymphonique
Hope it ain’t a cover…; Jaymison Beverly producin’ tha track… >>> Yup, I was right about it bein’ a cover (Simply Red), so I know this ain’t gonna go too good. A female takin’ over tha covered hook, here… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse, and it sounds good, but kinda awkward ta have this soft rock song be mixed with your grimy character! At least this ain’t a 4:30 song, and iz only 2:44! ROFL @ tha start to tha 2nd verse wit tha “trap house;” who would’ve thought that’d mix wit Simply Red! My Rating: 2.6

08. “Ghost” Feat. Romeo
1500 Or Nothin’ on this track. >>> Pretty nice for tha hook, here! Definitely feelin’ this production and how you comin’ through wit your street attitude! Great shit throughout tha 1st verse; nice street shit, once again! Hearin’ Romeo on tha 2nd verse, and it sounds good…; feelin’ tha delivery! My Rating: 4.4

09. “You’re The One” Feat. Jeremih
Another #TBT feature, here…; anotha 1500 beat. >>> Good start between Jeremih and tha beat… Even tha hook sounds good, so there’s more of a plus, here. It’s a longer joint (4:35), so let’s see if this holds up… Here you are on tha (I’d assume) 1st verse (since Jeremih sounded like he had an intro to tha hook). Sounds okay, but way too Rick Ross-y wit tha flow. Tha 2nd verse ain’t too Ross-y, but it’s startin’ ta be an aight joint, now… My Rating: 3.7

½time: Nice CD, so far; you neva lost it, P! A four-star-rated CD, currently!

10. “White” Feat. Yo Gotti & Krazy
J Buc on tha track; I had a feelin’ it was gon be this track, based off typing tha features out! Keepin’ tha been-a-minute-since-we-heard-‘em features goin’ wit Krazy on tha feature, as well as havin’ Yo Gotti, too! >>> Nice beat start and Yo Gotti on tha hook! Buc kept tha beat tag on a mainstream CD? Wonder what tha white folks from random states like Kentucky gon think/say? Anyway, here you are on tha 1st verse, comin’ through wit regular-soundin’ rhymes that sound good. “Mr. I Am” on tha 2nd verse (lol, I was gonna write, “Mr.,” but he beat me to it), comin’ through wit consistent rhymes! Of course, his nasally voice always takes tha cake! Now, let’s see how Krazy gon come back… Sounds good; it’s that typical No Limit feel, here! My Rating: 4.5

11. “Woke Up A Millionaire” Feat. Deezle
1500 Or Nothin & Deezle collaboration on tha beat. >>> Sounds like a regular song; not bad… I like tha “made it out tha pro-ject” line. Tha 2nd verse’s decent, here… Didn’t recognize Deezle, as I hear a long outro from you, here… Kinda long, would you say? My Rating: 3.6

12. “Let Me Find Out” Feat. Play Beezy & Gangsta
Jaymison Beverly beat. >>> Sounds like it gon be a club/ass-shaker song! Simple, but good job makin’ a jam, here, wit tha hook! Ooh, hearin’ tha beat within tha 1st verse, and it sounds like Atari or somethin’, lol! Good shit on tha 1st verse, too! Play Beezy comin’ through wit some catchy shit! Here you are on tha 2nd verse; good shit! Who would’ve thought you’d talk about “Instagram,” but you’re a soldier, and last! Tha “same ol’ G,” known as Gangsta, on tha 3rd verse, comin’ through wit good shit! Consistent rhymes; he got tha voice that always sounds great on tha tracks! My Rating: 4.5

13. “You Ain’t Gotta Say Too Much” Feat. Miss Chee, Howie T & Larayne
Slikk Muzik on tha track. >>> Anotha ass-shakin’ song? I’m lookin’ forward ta hearin’! You say it’s a “remix” ta somethin’? Sounds good wit tha singin’ on tha—oh, I know this from somewhere (Rich Boyz “Cutt Friends” or somethin’?); really #TBT style! Hearin’ tha 1st verse, and it sounds good; good shit! I’m feelin’ tha female rapper on tha 2nd verse, here; “diggin’ fa treasure!” My Rating: 4.3

14. “Make It Do What It Do” Feat. T-Bo
Mr. Giggles (lol) on tha track, here. >>> More ass ta shake, here, lol! Nice beat, and, in a typical No Limit perspective, this some good shit! “Make it twerk like Miley;” funny how she’s tha new stereotype as far as a twerkaholic! Tha hook’s catchy; too bad T-Bo prefers “droppin’ dollaz” on hoes than spendin’ it on me promotin’ him. It’s like, unblock me, already!! Tha 2nd verse went by pretty quickly; nice… Oh now, here’s T-Bo on tha 3rd verse… Once again, just like Ross, it ‘sounds good’ on this beat. Then again, hearin’ tha rest of tha shit he spittin’, and it’s borderline-weak; too much of a stereotype of what’s ‘cool’. My Rating: 4.2

15. “I Ain’t Goin’ Let It Happen Twice” Feat. Gangsta & Play Beezy
La’Keith on tha track; how’d he get here? >>> Beat sounds pretty nice, especially tha intro, with, “Nigga, roll dat shit up!” Good shit from you and Gangsta on tha hook! Definitely feelin’ tha “life” content! Hearin’ tha 1st verse, and you’re really holdin’ it down wit tha “Free C-Murder” shit! Even down ta “Boosie [touchin’] down!” Props fa tha passion in your voice; keep this goin’! Got tha Gangsta on tha 2nd verse, here; I feel tha “it’s hard out here without no education” line. I hate that I’ve had a Master’s Degree for almost 16 months now, and still don’t have a job! Opportunities have come up, but they’re really bullshittin’ me, ignorin’ me and shit. It’s like, it’s an open position that I mastered in!!! Great verse; keep this comin’!! Play Beezy on tha 3rd verse, comin’ through wit good rhymes like Gangsta, too! My Rating: 4.5

16. “You Need To Know”
Jaymison Beverly beat. >>> An R&B voice in tha background, here… This doesn’t sound too bad, but I dunno about people claimin’ “this tha realest shit I’ve eva wrote;” you know how many songs you have? I don’t think anything in 2013 would be that memorable… Anyway, hearin’ you on tha 1st verse, and it sounds okay; regular rhymes, here… Tha 2nd verse ain’t too bad, either… Hearin’ tha 3rd verse, and you keepin’ this shit goin’… My Rating: 3.7

17. “I Need An Armored Truck” Feat. Romeo
I like tha title, here…; The Composer composed this track. >>> Nice beat, again; sounds like some regular No Limit-type shit. Tha hook’s pretty good; I know you want that “armored truck!” Good job wit tha 1st verse, too… I thought I commented tha hook, before, but it seemed like tha beginning of tha 1st verse. Hearin’ tha actual hook now, and it sounds like a 2 Chainz flow… Same thing wit Romeo on tha 2nd verse, here; it’s okay… Also, kinda like today’s rappers (e.g., Meek Mill). My Rating: 3.7

18. “God Forgive Us” Feat. The Game & Nipsey Hussle
Not sure how this gon turn out fa an ending song… 1500 Or Nothin’ beat. >>> An okay start; I think I’m likin’ this for an ending song… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse, and it sounds like a Rick Ross-like flow… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse, and it’s Game, comin’ through wit some better rhymes than his current usual! Glad they’re not soft; props fa havin’ that tone that I grew up knowin’! Nipsey on tha 3rd verse, here… It’s okay; really sounds like some Maybach Music… Overall, this was pretty nice. My Rating: 4.2

Overall: I thought this was a nice album; definitely golden, if you’d consider it that! Keep up tha great work! Nice collaborations, too, and tha production was mostly great!
