Review #1,569: D-Flexx "Planet Playa"

Reviewed on 10.05.2016 (Review #1,569)

Keepin’ it goin’ wit a release from Shreveport, this time: D-Flexx Planet Playa, released in 1997 on Black Market Records & was produced by Crazy-8, Chocolate Chip, D-Flexx & Hacim! Start Time: 4:12 PM | End Time: 5:03 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> “ iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> “ iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. The Release
>>> Nice “statement” in tha beginning, here… My Rating: N/A

02. “Mad At The World”
>>> Feelin’ how you comin’ through on tha 1st verse with this funky beat… I’m diggin’ your aggression and how you handlin’ tha track… Tha hook’s pretty nice, here; diggin’ it… Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ decent, too… I’ono, sometimes, tha hook can be cheesy fa me when I hear how it sounds… Hearin’ tha 3rd verse and it’s soundin’ good, once again, here… My Rating: 3.9

03. “Still Pimpin’”
>>> Diggin’ tha G-Funk-soundin’ beat, here… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s pretty catchy; diggin’ how this hook sounds! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and you sound a lil’ deeper/darker wit your voice, here; definitely nice! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it ain’t that bad ta hear; flows nicely… Tha 3rd verse’s nice; definitely feelin’ these rhymes! “I’m as deadly as venom!” My Rating: 4.2

04. “Murder One Lyrics”
>>> I’m definitely feelin’ tha dark beat, here! Definitely can feel tha intensity in it!! Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice! Nice line about “Singapore;” random! Lovin’ tha “lyrics!!” Neva heard countin’ down sound so tight, befo! “10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, murder one lyrics at ya door!” Definitely nice!! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s keepin’ shit on-n-poppin’, of course! Tha 3rd verse soundin’ tight, too! “Do niggaz like history;” nice! My Rating: 4.3

05. “Black Woman”
>>> Samplin’ an older song on tha intro, here; not bad… I’m feelin’ tha dark-soundin’, laidback beat, here, as tha 1st verse rolls… Hearin’ tha hook and it sounds like Case singin’ on tha hook; I dig this… And, tha 2nd verse sounds nice ta hear, too… Keepin’ it movin’ with tha 3rd verse, here; not bad… My Rating: 3.8

06. “Playas Funk”
>>> It does sound funky for tha dark beat, here; nice… Let’s see if this R&Bish vibe can hold up…; decent hook… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and I can’t complain wit you holdin’ it down, here… Tha 2nd verse sounds nice with tha rhymes, here… And, we got tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ decent, too… My Rating: 3.8

½time: This ain’t too bad of a hood/laidback release, so far; feelin’ what you bringin’… We have a 4.0-rated tape, so far; let’s keep it goin’!

07. “Only God Knows”
>>> This a lil’ on tha laidback side, as well; nice with tha uncredited female on tha hook… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s decent with survivin’ “tha ghetto.” Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ nice ta hear, here, as well, as you’re holdin’ tha laidback vibe down… My Rating: 3.7

08. “Raw”
>>> Even tho this ’97, it’s rare hearin’ a jacked-beat sound, here; reminds me of old New York rap… Tha hook sounds hype, but I’ono if this beat can keep me interested… Tha 2nd verse ain’t soundin’ bad, here, neither… And, you keepin’ it goin’ wit tha 3rd verse, here, as well… Really “raw” and hype on tha last hook, here! My Rating: 3.6

09. “Playaz Play”
>>> Sounds like a fun, party-like hook on this laidback beat, here, with tha female randomly vocalizin’ tha title… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and you sound really quiet on tha mic; where da volume at?? And, we’re hearin’ tha 2nd verse, here; sounds nice, too… And yeah, a lil’ low on tha vocals but it’s a lil’ louder… And, we got tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ decent… My Rating: 3.9

10. “Narcotics & Hydraulics” feat. Black Rhino
>>> This has a West Coast feel to it in tha beat and sounds catchy on tha hook, here; whips, whips, whips!! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s soundin’ nice ova this beat. It reminds me of a novelty-like sound to it, like it was only during a specific time… Tha 2nd verse pretty wild from this Rhino! No wonder! It’s a Rhino!! Keepin’ it goin’ wit tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ nice, too… My Rating: 3.8

11. “Crazee!! (Freestyle)”
>>> Beat aight; I’m likin’ tha “Annie…Angie” peeps, here… Too long fa a freestyle, here, but it’s nice hearin’ all these female names… My Rating: 3.1

12. “Playaz Play (Remix)”
>>> Not really diggin’ that it has a “Sexual Healing” beat on it, here… You almost sound like LL Cool J on tha vocals, here… My Rating: 3.2

Overall: Not too bad… I thought this review went over well with tha production and how you handled it fa da hood… Wonder what you’re doin’ today?
