Review #1,865: Katey Red & Dem Hoes "Melpomene Block Party EP"

Reviewed on 12.15.2019 (Review #1,865)

Gettin’ as many reviewz I can get done as possible, before tha year ends! Up next, it’s N’awlinz’ own, Katey Red & Dem Hoes Melpomene Block Party EP, released in 1999 on Take Fo Records…! Start Time: 7:44 AM | End Time: 8:10 AM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. “This Is Katey”
>>> Nice bounce vibes; Katey almost sounds like a dude? I know there was some non-straight sexuality with some of ‘em, in tha N.O.? Either way, an okay start, here… My Rating: 3.7

02. “Melpomene Block Party”
>>> Off tha Jackson 5 sample, here, strictly fa dem bounce head—wow, 8:39 on tha length! Lol @ 2:09: “Somebody smell like… (shit)!” This whole joint rolled; I ain’t say much but it was entertainin’…! My Rating: 4.2

03. “Twerk Somethin’” feat. Big Al & Lil’ Tee
>>> Sounds good, here; anotha simple-soundin’ beat, though not a full-on bounce one… Feelin’ tha party/N.O.-type flow, here… As this consistently continues, there’s not much I have to say; it’s a nice lil’ continuous vibe… My Rating: 3.8

04. “Lick It! Suck It!” feat. K.C. Redd
>>> Anotha nice lil’ typical sample ova this bounce beat; nice energy, here! My Rating: 4.0

½time: Nice bounce vibes, here; it don’t stop! A 3.9-rated CD, so far; keep it goin’!

05. “Melpomene Block Party (Radio)”
See #2 fa tha review…

06. “Bigg Ramp (Remix)” feat. Bigg Ramp
>>> Sounds good wit this street vibe; Ramp got some flowin’ flows, here… Why a censored part at 1:19? Either way, not too bad, all tha way round… My Rating: 3.7

07. “Bitch, You Know Who I Am” feat. Big Al & Lil’ Tee
>>> Sounds good & hype on tha hook, here; beat kinda plain, tho, tho upbeat… My Rating: 3.5

08. “Melpomene Block Party (Live)”
See #2 fa tha review…

Overall: A quick lil’ nice bounce vibe, mainly; good job…
