Review #1,905: Soldiers For Peace a.k.a Desire Boys "Trying To Survive"

Reviewed on 12.26.2019 (Review #1,905)

As I continue these reviewz, I wanna send a special Happy 40th Birthday to one of tha original jiggalaters, himself, Big Scoob! Baton Rouge wouldn’t be tha same without him! Now, on to tha N.O. wit my next review: Soldiers For Peace a.k.a. Desire Boys Trying To Survive, Vol. 1, released in 1999 on Dream Records! This CD was produced by Akeem The Dream & Felton Langlois, as well! Start Time: 8:35 AM | End Time: 9:51 AM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

My Rating: 3.9

½time: Sounds like a fun lil’ tribute ta tha N.O., here, wit a 4.1 for tha CD rating; good shit! Keep this N.O. shit up…!

09. “Trying To Survive”
>>> Sounds like an okay beat, as well as tha 1st verse, too… Got tha hook goin’ on, here & it str8; nothin’ ta really say ‘bout it… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & it cool; I’ll give it props… Tha rest of this str8; an okay track fa me, here… My Rating: 3.6

12. “Peace N The Hood”
>>> Sounds like an anti-“violence” anthem, on tha hook & beat; nice… I like how y’all spelled tha title in tha beginning of tha 1st verse; good shit… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & it sounds good; keep this shit up fa “peace.” Sounds like anotha part of tha 2nd verse, here, soundin’ okay wit tha flow/lyrics… My Rating: 3.7

13. “The Devil Is Your Best Friend”
>>> Sounds okay wit this beat & how tha 1st verse goin’… Sounds like a really long verse & then, a haunted-soundin’ hook… Woulda been nice if there were two hooks, rather than one & two verses than one… My Rating: 3.7

17. “Oh Lord”
>>> Beat str8; sounds like an okay 1st verse, here… Hearin’ tha hook & it aight; not tha catchiest fa me, tho… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & it sounds like a track fa struggle; ehh… Hate hearin’ about all this “baby” talk, as far as expectin’ one. Lots of rappers can’t handle tha unexpected fatherhood & don’t even plan it out! It continuously ruins their careers, while they think they feel more “motivated;” yeah, right! Got tha 3rd verse goin’ on, here & it str8; can’t really say much… My Rating: 3.5
