Review #1,971: Big Boogie "Playa I Be Hurtin'"

Reviewed on 6.02.2021 (Review #1,971)

After doin’ that two-disc review for Beelow, I was hopin’ there’d be a chance to regain tyme. Luckily, there’s this seven-track release from Big Boogie Playa I Be Hurtin’, released in 2000 on CP3 Records! Start Tyme: 3:37 PM | End Tyme: 4:03 PM

Disclaimer:
I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. “Let’s Make It Happen”
Producer: DJ Lil’ Daddy
>>> Sounds like a good lil’ beat & good lil’ aggressive, laidback flow you got on tha 1st verse, here… Hearin’ tha hook & it cool; it’s like a dark version of you wantin’ to “make it happen,” like, ASAP…! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & your rhymes sound pretty dope on this verse; luv when tha beat sounds decrease to sound tighter! As far as tha rest of this, pretty dope; luv tha “TLC chasin’ waterfalls” part, in reference to their signature song, “Waterfalls”. My Rating: 4.4

02. “They Afta Me”
Producer: XL
>>> What an anthem to get away from “tha fedz”; dope hook & voice!! Beat poppin’, too—triple threat!! Hearin’ tha 1st verse & it’s dope wit how you come through wit it; gotta feel & respect it! “B-to-tha-O-to-tha-O-oh, G-to-tha-I-to-tha-E!” Also, a “50-cent slab”; back when “50 Cent” was an undaground dude. Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & it ain’t too bad wit how you keepin’ this story goin’… However, this seems like a long track? A whole 5:20 on tha length, here… Keepin’ this movin’ with tha 3rd verse, here, comin’ through wit some good shit; can’t deny it in tha hood. Tha rest of this verse seems like it’s long, as well; it’s still a cool song, tho. My Rating: 4.3

03. “Fortune Tellas” feat. Doefus & Yahkeen
Producer: DJ Lil’ Daddy
>>> A lil’ bit of a Jamaican-soundin’ start…; not bad, so far… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse & it sounds like some nice-soundin’, ‘90s Louisiana rap with this laidback, street sound… Hearin’ tha hook & it sounds weird with this voice; “mercy me-ah, mercy me…” Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & it’s soundin’ like a mix between Skull Duggrey & non-Louisiana rap music; still soundin’ good, at least. I feel like you have that devil-soundin’ voice/energy you channel from dark tymes. That’s why, I feel like this track’s nice & eerie… Keepin’ this goin’ with tha 3rd verse, here, soundin’ aight; just seems like extra rappin’, which makes this seem long. Tha outro does sound a lil’ devilish; “respect,” indeed. My Rating: 3.9

½tyme: Fa only three tracks, so far, it sounds good; I’m feelin’ tha dark tales from your hood, here… Currently, tha average rating for this release iz at a 4.2. How will you continue?

04. “China White”
Producer: XL
>>> Beat sounds like it’s from tha “midnight streets,” as I’d call it; quiet & dark… Hearin’ tha 1st verse & it’s aight; it’s a str8 lil’ rap song for tha undaground. I’ono if I’ll call it somethin’ I’d love, right off tha bat; growth may be needed… Hearin’ tha hook & it’s all about tha “China”; she’s a bad one! Keepin’ this goin’ with tha 2nd verse & it’s a grimy day in tha hood; good tale… My Rating: 3.7

05. “Sky’s The Limit”
Producer: DJ Lil’ Daddy
>>> Sounds like a good lil’ slow beat for tha streetz, here; not bad with tha 1st verse, too… Hearin’ tha hook, here & it sounds simple; basically, just know what “Sky’s The Limit” means. Keepin’ this movin’ with tha 2nd verse & it sounds good, once again; keep tha hustle up! Lol, more “TLC” with tha “Creep”ness; lol, all “TLC”’d out! My Rating: 3.8

06. “Playa I Be Hurtin’” feat. J. Diamond
Producer: Mike Dogg
>>> Grimy-ass hook; now, I luv how you deliver tha hook/title part!!! “Playa I Be Hurtin’, Playa, I Be Hurtin’; Playa I Be Hurtin’…!” Hearin’ tha 1st verse & it sounds pretty gangsta, gutta, grimy—G-Words from a “G”! Oh, that hook; luv it!! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & it sounds pretty gangsta—all G-Words, once again! Oh, just hearin’ this goes NICE with Sirius XM BPM playin’ Riton x Nightcrawlers, Samantha Harper, Mufasa & Hypeman’s “Friday (Dopamine Re-Edit)”; run tha hook back!!! Lol!! Hearin’ tha 3rd verse on this track & it sounds good; blends in nicely with tha other verses, basically. Oh, that hook!!! Also, some samplin’ or background vocalizin’ goin’ on in tha background. My Rating: 4.8

07. “They Afta Me (Radio)”
Producer: XL
See #2 fa tha review!

Overall: Seemed like a good lil’ release, with a few decent parts. However, that title track blew me away with that aggression! Lol; keep bein’ tha Big Boogie, Boogie!!
