Review #1,833: Big Mike "Hard To Hit"

Reviewed on 10.17.2019 (Review #1,833)

Keepin’ my reviewz goin’ wit Big Mike, up next! Hard To Hit, released in 1999 on Rap-A-Lot Records! Start Time: 5:05 PM | End Time: 6:18 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. “Return Of The Gangsta Shit”
Producer: Mike Dean
>>> Nice beat and intro, so far! Likin’ how tha “gang…” repeated & dubbed; good shit! Feelin’ tha hook, here; definitely nice! Got a verse goin’ on, here, soundin’ pretty nice ta hear… My Rating: 4.2

02. “Made Men”
Producer: Mike B
>>> Beat sounds nice and anthemic! It sounds like you have a mix between tha West Coast & tha Boot, wit yo music… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s soundin’ nice, wit how you comin’ through wit it… No hook? Didn’t expect just a verse but if you wanna call this tha 2nd intro, I guess we’ll consider that? Oh, I hear tha hook toward tha final few seconds, lol; nice… My Rating: 3.8

03. “Hard To Hit”
Producer: Mike Dean
>>> Sounds like a cool beat and, like, a sample or somethin’ wit tha sound that sounds catchy, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s soundin’ good… Didn’t expect tha hook to come outta nowhere (poor transition?); it sounds good, too… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s soundin’ good; not much ta say ‘bout tha good rhymes… Oh, I’d luv some “hash,” right nah! Don’t get me jealous…! Tha 3rd verse’s pretty hype wit how you keepin’ this goin’; nice job… My Rating: 3.9

04. “12 O’Clock”
Producer: Mike Dean & Mike B
>>> Nice lil’ beat, as well as tha hook, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and you sound okay… I’ono if tha flow bores me, at times, so if I don’t have much ta say, it’s usually ‘cause of that… Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ good, once again; keep it goin’… Good job wit tha consistent-soundin’ 3rd verse, here; you got dis…! My Rating: 3.8

05. “Hustlers”
Producer: Mike B
>>> Sounds like a good lil’ southern beat ta lay back to… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s soundin’ nice, here… Tha hook sounds nice ta hear, here; gotta keep hustlin’…! Keepin’ it goin’ wit tha 2nd verse, comin’ through like a G, here; nice… Tha 3rd verse’s soundin’ nice ta hear, as well; good shit… My Rating: 4.0

06. “Southern Supreme”
Producer: Mike Dean
>>> Good lil’ beat; repetitive hook that’s ehh, here… Tha 1st verse’s soundin’ okay, here; nothin’ ta really say… It starts soundin’ more consistent wit tha rhymes, as this continues, so there’s some sorta extra light, here… My Rating: 3.9

07. “Sunday Morning”
Producer: Mike Dean & Mr. Lee
>>> Sounds like it samples somethin’ in tha beat, here; not too bad for a start… Tha 1st verse ain’t too bad, here; keep it goin’… Ehh @ tha hook; not into this church shit, so this ain’t fa me… I’m a Christian but I don’t fuck wit this type of rap music… Tha 2nd verse’s motivated, wit tha content; it’s just not my cup of tea, especially for Louisiana rap… I feel tha same about tha 3rd verse, here; not much ta say… My Rating: 1.9

08. “Heads Like Us”
Producer: Mike B
>>> Beat sounds kinda dry, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds more like tha undaground than that gospel shit… Tha hook sounds okay; feelin’ tha funk and beat sounds in tha beat…! Tha 2nd verse ain’t too bad; seems dry, at times, so I guess tha hook enlightens tha track a bit… Hearin’ tha 3rd verse and it aight… My Rating: 3.7

09. “Better Now” feat. MC Breed & Devin The Dude
Producer: Mike Dean & Mr. Lee
>>> Okay beat, here, as it’s a lil’ more upbeat… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it aight, here… Tha hook sounds pretty nice; just layin’ it down like it iz! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse from Breed and it’s soundin’ laidback; not bad, here… Got Devin on tha 3rd verse, here, layin’ it down like it seriously iz! My Rating: 3.9

10. “Claimin’ Real”
Producer: Mike B
>>> Pretty creepy and nice how that chick says, “Bayou,” on tha hook! Also, nice lil’ accordion in tha beat! Interestin’ lil’ twist…! Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and I’m feelin’ tha consistent rhymes; this sounds betta! Lol, tha beat sounds like it’s faster toward tha end…! My Rating: 4.3

½time: Kinda dry and okay fa me, so far… Most ain’t that bad but there’s nothin’ too much that sticks out wit this CD, here, except for tha accordion! A 3.7-rated CD, so far; time ta continue…

11. “Uhh! Uhh!” feat. O.C.
Producer: Mr. Lee
>>> Sounds like an anthemic beat/hook, here; let’s see how this continues… Consistent rhymes in tha 1st verse, here; good shit… Tha 2nd verse ain’t too bad, here; time ta keep it goin’… Tha 3rd verse keeps this goin’, as well; nice lil’ anthem… My Rating: 4.0

12. “Giddy Up”
Producer: Mr. Lee
>>> An upbeat beat, here; good lil’ 1st verse, as well, “by [yoself].” Hearin’ tha hook and it ain’t bad, here… Tha 2nd verse sounds okay, as well; not much ta say… More comin’ outta tha 3rd verse, here…; not bad… My Rating: 3.8

13. “This Goes Out”
Producer: Mr. Lee
>>> Mo upbeat shit, here, soundin’ nice ta hear wit tha beat and 1st verse… Hyped-soundin’ hook, as you’re dedicatin’ it to all tha “souljaz” and all tha Gz; good shit… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and these rhymes sound nice ova this upbeat hood/club beat… Hearin’ tha 3rd verse and it’s soundin’ nice ta hear, as well; good lil’ joint, here… My Rating: 4.3

14. “1000 Guns”
Producer: Mike B
>>> Beat ain’t too bad, here…; hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s aight… Sounds a lil’ bit like some sorta anthem, on tha hook; a lil’ catchy… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s soundin’ nice ta hear, as well… Tha 3rd verse ain’t too bad, as this wraps up; I’ll give it props… My Rating: 3.9

15. “How You Want It” feat. Outlawz
Producer: Mr. Lee
>>> Beat’s soundin’ cool; you sound fulla energy on tha 1st verse, here… Likin’ when tha Outlawz make an appearance, here; great lil’ collab, on tha 2nd verse! Tha rest of this shit sounds nice ta hear, as well; good lil’ joint… My Rating: 4.2

16. “One Time”
Producer: Mr. Lee
>>> Sounds like an okay beat; more on a West Coast vibe, here? Reminds me of E-40 on tha 1st verse, here? Still, it sounds nice… I didn’t have much ta say about this one but it’s mainly okay/good… My Rating: 3.7

17. “All My Love”
Producer: Mike B
>>> A female singin’ on tha hook, ova this quiet beat…; not bad… Beat sounds more on a G-Funk-soundin’ beat, which sounds good… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it’s an okay track… Tha 2nd verse don’t sound too bad, here; it’s okay, once again… My Rating: 3.6

18. “Twirk It” feat. Jayo Felony & Spice 1
Producer: Mike Dean & Mr. Lee
Lol @ tha spellin’ of twerk, here… >>> Beat’s pretty upbeat, here, as you’re spittin’ some good rhymes on tha 1st verse; nice… Tha 2nd verse ain’t too bad, here, wit tha voice; rhymes are good… Tha 3rd verse’s soundin’ nice ta hear, as this continues on… Pretty hyped-up wit this verse; definitely feelin’ tha energy! “Saggy jeans, tryna live a hustla’z dream;” ain’t dat right! A 4th verse, here, soundin’ nice ta hear, as well… My Rating: 3.9

19. “None” feat. Yukmouth
Producer: Mike B
>>> Anotha good, simple-soundin’ anthem, on tha hook; nice beat, too… Hearin’ tha 1st verse from you and it’s soundin’ nice; keep reppin’…! Tha yucky mouth of Yukmouth on tha 2nd verse, here, providin’ gangsta-related energy to tha fullest! Tha 3rd verse’s soundin’ nice, here, wit tha “soulja rag” and it gon “sag!” My Rating: 4.0

20. “Suckers 2 Me”
Producer: Mr. Lee
>>> Beat ain’t too bad, here; nice lil’ West Coast vs. Louisiana sound… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it cool… I like how you say, “From a hustlin’-type perspective;” sounds like somethin’ I’d say… Hearin’ tha hook and it cool; you know what it iz… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it sounds like you attackin’ all da “suckers;” true dat! Got tha 3rd verse goin’ on, as well; definitely nice wit dat aggression! My Rating: 3.8

Overall: Looked like it turned out ta be a good/above-average review, here… Mostly a decent set of songs, while tha highest rating was a 4.3, twice… We’ll see how you do in tha future, when I review your CDs after this one…
