Review #1,174: Lil' Trill "From Rags To Riches (Hosted by Trapaholics & DJ Smallz)"

Reviewed on 9.12.2012 (Review #1,174)

Now that I got college behind me, lemme get a catch-up on some of these reviewz… Gonna try and do these as fast as I can ‘cause I still don’t have time for these things, and some of these are hella old, too. Lil’ Trill From Rags To Riches (Hosted by Trapaholics & DJ Smallz) review. Start Time: 10:42 AM | End Time: 11:09 AM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you use tha word “swag” frequently, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes 100,000x (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. “Trill Musik” Feat. Carterboy
DJ B-Real on tha beat! >>> Nice, smooth beat, on a “gangsta” tip. Sounds like growth wit more cussin’ goin’ on, includin’ more of a young Boosie-soundin’ voice. Betta-than-average song fa me… My Rating: 4.2

02. “Everything” Feat. Webbie
K.E. doin’ tha beat, here. >>> This beat sounds good, Southern style. Rhymes are aight; hook sounds good, although it could almost sound like a Soulja Boy-type song wit tha beat… That different voice that comes up randomly sounds a lil’ scary… Speaking of voices, Webbie sounds good, here, almost non-mainstream for me! My Rating: 4.1

03. “Baton Rouge” Feat. Carterboy
DJ B-Real, once again! Looks anticipatin’!! >>> Good street/hood rhymes, and a nice Southern beat goin’ on, here! Title says it all; gotta luv it! Good collaboration; I expected less from tha Carterboy dude, here; glad he doesn’t sound like someone who would do what everyone else does… My Rating: 4.3

04. “Bands” Feat. Shell
Mouse on tha track, almost like some 3Deep-type anticipation, here!! Really lookin’ forward to hearin’!!! >>> Not much excitement goin’ on in tha beginning, here; I hope that’s you in tha beginning and not Shell… This sadly iz tha most-mainstream song outta tha 4 for me, currently; not too into tha flow and beat, too much. Ehh, not into both of y’all verses…; I do like Shell’s flow, though, and that’s basically it. My Rating: 3.6

05. “Higher”
Gifted on tha beat; who iz that? >>> Well, this beat ain’t too bad; I like tha Southern vibe, and this a better song for me. Definitely likin’ tha consistent vibe, here… My Rating: 3.9

06. “Stupid Loose”
Another unknown producer to me, this time (G Money Baby)… >>> Beat ain’t too bad, but tha “I get money”-type shit kinda spoils it for me… Lyrics a lil’ ehh, and tha rhymes are too ‘automatic’ for me, like you can neva have a problem or somethin’… My Rating: 3.0

07. “Take Your Lick” Feat. Carterboy
This Carterboy (no spaces) dude iz everywhere, all of a sudden? Iz there somethin’ special about him? Anyway, everytime it’s him on tha feature, it’s B-Real on tha beat… >>> Sounds like a catchy song fa tha hood; nice hook. Tha beat’s a lil’ on tha catchy side, too; I feel like B-Real’s got more of a Big Wayne sound on this CD, which iz still good, but I feel like that’s who I’m actually hearin’ on tha beat, instead… Once again, anotha good collaboration, here. My Rating: 4.2

08. “Represent”
Now, no Carterboy, but DJ B-Real on tha beat, lol. >>> Ahh, anotha money/automatic song! My Rating: 2.7

09. “Like I Use To” Feat. Carterboy
Really “Used,” but I’ll let it slide, here. DJ B-Real!! >>> Sounds more like somethin’ for Lil’ Phat? A lil’ slow; tha beat’s nice, but I dunno how interested I’ll be in this… Rhymes aren’t mindblowin’ for me; next… My Rating: 3.3

½time: So far, 3.7 for tha CD rating.

10. “I’m So Fly” Feat. Carterboy, Webbie & DJ B-Real
B-B-B-Real!!! >>> Not-sourced DJ B-Real on tha hook? Ugh, I hate when features are not listed!! Of course, B-Real sounds nice and pure on tha hook; great voice and Southern lyrics!!! :tu Rhymes are nothin’ special, once again; sick of tha “money” shit! :td Plus, tha features should be flipped; Webbie’s last. My Rating: 4.0

11. “Foreign”
K.E. beat. >>> Sounds like a Lil’ Phat song; catchy flow/voice on tha hook, but lyrics are boring, once again. My Rating: 3.5

12. “Retarded” Feat. Carterboy & Lil’ Phat
Double-production, here (you & DJ B-Real)! >>> Hook’s a lil’ simple, even though there’s a deep voice effect… Fuck, another feature flip? Annoying! Rhymes ain’t too bad, overall… My Rating: 3.8

13. “They Be Like”
BJ beat. >>> No to tha “stacks on deck” shit!!! :td Too ‘automatic’ for me… My Rating: 2.5

14. “Thank God”
No producer? Not really anticipatin’ then… >>> Not wack, luckily; good lyrics… My Rating: 3.7

15. “Who I Am”
Atomic Beats? They sound jacked (I’m mainly sayin’ that ‘cause tha previous song didn’t have a producer listed)… >>> Pop hook? Pathetic…; why do “mixtapes” need to have a pop appeal to ‘em? I’m sick of everyone havin’ a soft side! Rhymes are good, but tha flow and beat’s boring me. My Rating: 2.9

16. “Young Boss” Feat. K.T.
Dave (who iz that?) beat… >>> Unsourced K.T. on tha hook? Sick of these features not bein’ sourced! Either way, another poppy vibe for me. Lyrics are better than tha beat, but this iz too typical to tha current, dumb-ass generation we’re living in today! My Rating: 3.4

17. “Far Off” Feat. Lil’ Phat & Lil’ Boosie
DJ B-Real beat! >>> Interestin’ beat, although for B-Real, this sounds too ATL-y… Finally, a hook that has a BR feel to it wit tha repeatin’ title; good! Damn, another feature flip? Ugh, when Lil’ Phat originally appeared first in tha ID, he’s now last; why? That’s tha popularized-dickriding for ya (to tha uploader)! Rhymes are nice from tha features, but you’re too much on some typical shit, Trill; not everything’s about money and swag… My Rating: 4.1

18. “Break Up”
Kinda ehh wit anticipation, but wit B-Real on tha beat, I’m sure I should be a lil’ anticipated! >>> Tha gay voice on tha hook ruins it for me! My Rating: 1.2

19. “Plan B”
No producer to end this off? >>> Nice hook, but why does every fuckin’ rapper have to feel like they’re on top or somethin’? Ugh, I can’t wait to continue talkin’ about how I was harassed and shit! Either way, nice beat from tha ‘???’ dude. My Rating: 3.7

Overall: This CD wasn’t too bad, overall, but some of tha shit that wasn’t for me kinda hurt tha average CD rating. I seem to hate more of tha money topics now-a-dayz, due to tha fakeness I’ve seen from certain people I’ve dealt with, and that no one can help me out when I need them to!
