Review #1,177: Budta B "The Experiment Vol. 1"

Reviewed on 9.13.2012 (Review #1,177)

My 1st review for today iz a Dope Celebrity Records release, from ’08. Too bad I couldn’t get to this while my radio show was still active; had too much college shit on my mind. Here’s my review for Budta B The Experiment Vol. 1! By tha way, happy birthday to my boy, Bubba, outta dat Big Stacks Entertainment!! Start Time: 11:08 AM | End Time: 11:50 AM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you use tha word “swag” frequently, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes 100,000x (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. “Old School”
Startin’ it off (labeled “O.G.” on tha DatPiff file name, but I’m gonna go wit tha back cover’s info)… >>> A jacked beat CD? Didn’t expect “Nuttin’ But A “G” Thang” for tha beat, but you got a nice voice fa this shit! Good, vicious flow goin’ on, here! All tha name-droppin’ was pretty tight, too! My Rating: 4.2

02. “Hip-Hop”
>>> LOL @ tha beat choice, lovin’ it, lol… Yea, I can get a “bob [my] head” feelin’ ta this; thumbs up on how you came up! My Rating: 4.0

03. “Second”
Third track on here, lol. >>> Wow, these beats seem so old, lol… Feelin’ your fast rappin’, as you’re on track wit tha beat, here! My Rating: 4.1

04. “I’m Dope” Feat. Nu$$ie & Diablo
Classic collaborators; really lookin’ forward to hearin’ this!! >>> Goin’ all tha way back ta ’04 wit tha “Three Kings” beat, here; lol, when ’04 was four years old! Now, ’08 iz four years old! You doin’ a good job on tha 1st verse, here, wit your voice and how you handlin’ these jacked beats! Nu$$ie sounds anticipatin’ on tha 2nd verse, includin’ all tha greatness he spittin’! Definitely one of his best, here; “opposite of Santa?” How bah-humbugful!! Definitely a classic verse from him; too bad it’s a jacked beat, though! Could only imagine what that would sound like on an original beat? His attitude made sense, unlike everyone these dayz wit their cockiness! Diablo sounds good on tha 3rd verse, too; lots of shit he spittin’ here, representin’ in a frequent way! My Rating: 4.5

05. “Get In Dat Door” Feat. Lil’ J
All DCF people on tha features? No wonder, you were with them, even though I neva heard of you ‘til now? I dunno why I didn’t hear anyone buzz about chu… >>> Oh, God, iz dat tha “Speedin’” beat? Some of them The Runners productions sounded similar… LOL, good title and hook! Feelin’ tha “street” shit you spittin’, here. Tha title almost sounds like it could be “Gettin’ Dat Doe” wit how Lil’ J delivers it, lol. Speakin’ of J, here he iz on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through wit some good shit, fa what it was during this time. Ooh, you got some hot shit comin’ through on tha 3rd verse; where are all these rhymes comin’ from?! Definitely consistent and fast!! “Just be real like Big Wayne brotha;” lol, you had some knowledge back then! I didn’t know that ‘til tha year after… or, two years…!! My Rating: 4.3

06. “Stop Talkin’” Feat. Lil’ Chris & Doe Boy
Some Short Bus Boyz-type shit? Lookin’ forward to hearin’ this collaboration!! >>> Ooh, finally, an original production from under-20-year-old Big Wayne!! Definitely a nice beat, and tha hook’s pretty tight, wit tha middle finger attitude! Tha 1st verse sounds nice and energetic; gotta luv how y’all doin’ tha damn—“beat ya like masturbation!”—damn, tight line outta nowhere! I’m sure tha remaining verses are gonna be on tha same level as tha 1st one… I think I’m right, as tha 2nd verse has that vibe; good shit! I hear tha SBB, and he’s got some good rhymin’ goin’ on, on tha 3rd verse! My Rating: 4.6

07. “Alcoholic”
I still don’t understand how people get addicted to alcohol… >>> LOL, back when Cee-Lo was, like, unknown to many people; this beat’s from ’03! I still don’t get how so many artists get big these dayz, but back in tha day, it would always be an underrated single. Anyway, this iz okay; you handlin’ tha hook pretty good, like Timbaland did back then! My Rating: 4.2

08. “Local Hoochie” Feat. Nu$$ie
What’s a “Hoochie,” lol? >>> The Runners beat, on a typical “The Final Countdown” bassline… Good collaboration on tha hook from tha both of y’all, and interestin’ title. Tha 1st verse sounds good wit all tha DCF people bein’ shouted out! Hearin’ more of tha 1st verse, and it sounds like a bunch of 225 people bein’ shouted out; great rhymes and ways to describe all these Baton Rouge people!! You’re also on tha 2nd verse, and let’s see what’s goin’ on, here… You definitely keepin’ your 225 knowledge goin’ on, here. Really, you knew who “Q-Red” was back then? My Rating: 4.7

09. “Rider”
! >>> Your voice sounds a lil’ different, here; sounds more gutta… Tha rhymes are pretty nice, here, on whateva this beat iz… Tha hook’s pretty nice; raise dat voice! Yea, definitely feelin’ tha consistent attitude! My Rating: 4.1

10. “Go Crazy”
Am I expectin’ a jacked beat or somethin’? I dunno why my mind’s on that prediction, right now… (I wrote this preview before I even heard tha whole CD) >>> Well, it ain’t tha Young Jeezy beat I was expectin’; don’t exactly know this beat, but this fast vibe from you’s only okay for me… You prolly could’ve had this be less than 3 ¾ minutes long… Rhymes are aight, but ehh, I heard betta from you on this CD, already. My Rating: 3.6

11. “Keep It Trill” Feat. Twigg & Mo P
Interestin’-lookin’ features… >>> LOL, I thought this was “Runaway Love” for a second, but it’s that “Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill)” song, lol… Now, it’s a fast delivery, and I’m likin’ it ‘cause it reminds me of tha bounce deliveries… Features sound above-average for me; at least they 225 reprasentaz… My Rating: 3.9

½time: A 4.2-rated CD, currently; gotta feel what you’re bringin’ to tha table, jacked beat style, so far!!

12. “Rip Something” Feat. Lil’ J
Familiar song? >>> “D-Boyz” beat; heard many times on tracks, it feels like… Likin’ tha rhymes and delivery, though… My Rating: 3.8

13. “Roll ‘Em Up” Feat. BGz
>>> Big Wayne doin’ tha beat, here! Sounds like a simple song; can’t deny it… Features sound real young, here, wit dat classic Big Wayne pattern on tha beat!! I don’t have much ta say about this, but this a reason why I began to fall in luv wit Louisiana! My Rating: 4.3

14. “I’m Gutta” Feat. Mo P
>>> Doesn’t sound too much like a mainstream jacked beat; decent for a song… I like tha Southern vibe, and tha lyrics are pretty good wit tha 225 vibe! My Rating: 3.8

15. “The Life”
>>> Not really into tha long sample in tha beginning, especially since it’s takin’ up almost ½ of this song… Lyrics are good, but you prolly could’ve planned this song out betta (subtract tha beginning)! My Rating: 3.2

16. “Candyman” Feat. Twigg & Ceddybu
>>> Sounds like funny lyrics; food? Interestin’ delivery and shit; have I heard this before? Hook sounds familiar, but nice job from err-body doin’ a catchy job wit this one. My Rating: 4.1

17. “Mobbin’ (Remix)” Feat. Delwin, Lil’ J, Puppy, Bro-Bro & Nu$$ie
Mega-collab goin’ on, here… >>> Long intro? Okay, “Mobbin’ (Remix)”; I think that’s more of a correct title than “Big Dogg”…? Sounds like a lot goin’ on, but it died off at 4:03, for some reason, leavin’ tha last 50 seconds blank. :( My Rating: 3.6

18. “Hustler Anthem” Feat. Lil’ J & Nu$$ie
>>> Ahh, “Brown Paper Bag”; ewe… Good start from Lil’ J, here, before-2009 style. Not bad wit how you came through on this, pretty quick… Don’t think Nu$$ie should be first in tha ID, since he’s last on tha song. But, good job from Nu$$, either way. My Rating: 3.7

19. “Swagnificent” Feat. Level
I’d usually hate on a title like this, but since this was tha Nu$$ie-Alive times (especially ’08), I have to appreciate it…, I guess? >>> Weird Rich On Da Track beat tag, lol? Recognized tha background, at first, in tha tag, but let’s see what we got here… Sounds like a fun song fa tha ’08 dayz; kinda miss these dayz of Level… Nice job wit tha shit y’all bringin’ to tha table, here; can’t complain. Tha beat keeps tha excitement goin’; good job, y’all! My Rating: 4.5

20. “Candy Cane”
I anticipate somethin’ outta this title… >>> Ugh, “Lollipop”… “C Squared” or “Candy Cane”, at least this doesn’t have no gay-ass a-tune to it! Not really for me; how many people have to remake this song? Length iz too long, too, especially since no one’s on it… My Rating: 2.9

21. “Out My Medulla” Feat. Lil’ Louis & Lil’ Yella
LOL; looks like it gon be a good song/collaboration! >>> This sounds like a tight song; good vibe, 225 style!! This iz tha shit that really caught my attention when my Louisiana connection started! Oh, gotta luv all tha energy!! It doesn’t stop!!! Y’all seem ta neva stop wit this shit!! My Rating: 4.6

22. “Vamanos” Feat. Lil’ J, Nu$$ie & Puppy
Endin’ it wit a big one? >>> Ehh, “Adios”… A lil’ long on tha length, so let’s see if I can handle it… Catchy hook, but it really could be original… Lil’ J’s first, but last on tha ID? Ugh, I don’t like tha dickridin’ order; should be in order of who’s first on tha song! Not bad wit Lil’ J comin’ through on this beat; I’ll give him credit. LOL, Nu$$ie, Mr. “Good Bad Guy” comin’ through “eatin’ sunflower seeds” in a “tree;” rofl, gotta give him major credit fa bein’ such a character!!! Tha 3rd verse iz Puppy, and he sounds like he can do anything? A lil’ automatic wit tha lyrics, but can’t complain wit these times… I think he was only 22, 23, at tha time? I’m 24, and I still don’t feel close to ‘automatic’ wit things (I guess that’s my lack of communication)? Here you are on tha final verse, comin’ through wit tha “-ion” lines; really feelin’ ‘em all!! Now, some “-al” parts ending it, love it!!! My Rating: 4.6

Overall: Definitely felt this CD, for tha most part, despite all tha jacked beats!! Keep up tha great work… whereva you are!
