Review #1,588: NBA YoungBoy "Mind Of A Menace 2"

Reviewed on 11.07.2016 (Review #1,588)

So, it’s weird to know that tha election iz 2morrow. Last time on tha election, I drove down to NY after Hurricane Sandy, a nor’easter struck & I flew to Florida tha next day. Oh, just sounds like such special times! Now, I work my ass off! Prolly won’t see Florida for a million years, unless I go to Louisiana soon! For now, lemme review this: NBA YoungBoy Mind Of A Menace 2. Will it be on tha same quality level as Mind Of A Menace, or will it attempt tha boring, mainstream sound like Before I Go? Lemme find out… Start Time: 6:39 PM | End Time: 7:12 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> “ iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> “ iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. “Intro”
>>> Let’s hope with a Q-Red production that you’ll have more to catch my attention with… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it sounds great wit how you’re rappin’ on tha beat, even tho you sound more like all these so-called artists that try and be big (Mista or anyone that raps over legendary Baton Rouge producers’ beats). In that case, I’ll prolly give this good ratings and like it, but it’ll go out tha other ear after this review… And, even a 2nd verse in this intro track… Sounds to me like a lotta randomness, but it’s still nice ta hear… I also like how you ended this intro with tha name of your CD, just like Before I Go’s 1st track. My Rating: 3.8

02. “Alotta Miles”
>>> Beat’s kinda quiet with not much happenin’, at times, but it’s still cool… Hearin’ you on tha verse and it’s decent… Hearin’ you on tha verse and it sounds like somethin’ that Boosie would spit, as far as tha flow and some of tha lyrical content, here… Either way, just decent… My Rating: 3.7

03. “Fact”
>>> Doesn’t sound like it gon be a good start… Hearin’ a weird voice from you on tha 1st verse and I ain’t feelin’ this at all! Fuckin’ “money” rhymes!!! A Young Thug breed? Smh!! Let’s just pretend I’m not really payin’ attention to this, right now… Okay, got it! My Rating: 1.7

04. “Cross Me” feat. Whop
>>> FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKK!!!!! Caught me off-fuckin’-guard!!! A B-Real beat outta nowhere, like, really?! I oughta tell David Drake, “You wanted to bring tha excitement outta me when you told me to check out NBA YoungBoy, right?! I’m sure you LUV my random, excited, flipout moments!!” Even tho I sound like suckin’ a dick when I say this, but tha beat sounds real nice! Definitely that pure, classic-soundin’ Baton Rouge music that will always be around/neva age! Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it sounds interesting; definitely nice fa tha streetz! Likin’ how tha previous track, I had no interest for and now, with tha B-Real beat, my interest went to, like, 1,000%!! Tha hook’s pretty catchy, too; definitely nice! Looks like I was wrong with tha previous CD I reviewed of yours, where I predicted tha Scotty Cain feature was gonna be my favorite outta all your songs, lol! Hearin’ this Whop dude that I’ve neva heard of before on tha 2nd verse and he sounds nice, too! I think tha Whop dude gon have a good future with you, in my opinion… B-Real’s birthday’s next Tuesday, November 15; gonna get realllllllllllllll fucked up that day!!! My Rating: 4.7

05. “Murder”
>>> “DJ Swift on tha track”? Not sure who dat iz… Either way, I’m likin’ this production, too; sounds nice! Almost reminds me of Zaytoven, so that’s a good comparison! Nice job wit tha hook, here, describin’ tha predicted “murder!” Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds like you holdin’ this shit down… Tha 2nd verse sounds nice ta hear, too, as you’re holdin’ this shit down… My Rating: 4.2

06. “Bandz”
I’ono about this one… >>> Sounds quieter… Beat ain’t too bad, here… Hearin’ tha hook and it sounds nice… I don’t really have anything ta say about this; just randomness… Hearin’ tha hook about “bandz,” non-stop, and let’s just pretend that it’s nails on a chalkboard! You think you can re-capture my attention with tha fast rappin’ on tha 2nd verse? Not really! To me, gettin’ robbed iz like gettin’ raped!! My Rating: 1.1

½time: Looks like we have a three-way split, here: Two great tracks, two decent tracks & two wack tracks. Overall, tha average CD rating’s only a 3.2, but tha Q-Red & B-Real productions really surprised me, especially tha B-Real one! Still, I’ono how B-Real goes through each day without me on his mind! I know I’m on his mind and that he’s guilty for what he’s doin’!!!

07. “Be The Same”
>>> Nice lil’ production, here, even tho a lil’ plain… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it ain’t too bad… I’ono why, but I’m yawnin’… Tha hook ain’t too bad, here; not sure what else ta say… Hearin’ you on tha 2nd verse and it ain’t bad, either… Just a day in tha life of tha YoungBoy. Fast-ass fade out? My Rating: 3.4

08. “On My Soul”
>>> Guss did this one? Sounded like that when I heard tha beat tag… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it sounds decent… Nothin’ much ta say about these decent rap tracks: Beat ain’t bad, you rap your stories and that’s a wrap. And, a cold ending, but 25 seconds of silence at tha end? My Rating: 3.3

09. “Win Or Lose”
>>> Sounds like a good start with this producer I don’t know… Hearin’ you on tha hook and it sounds a lil’ catchy, tryna figure out tha future… Hearin’ you on 1st tha verse and it ain’t bad; decent flow, here… If it’s one thing I like about your tracks, they’re not so long. I hate reviewin’ songs that are 4:00 – 5:00 long and it drags… At least yours are no longer than three minutes on most! Hearin’ you on tha 2nd verse and it ain’t too bad, either; good shit… My Rating: 3.6

10. “How We Play” feat. Extendo
>>> Sounds like it could be Q-Red doin’ tha beat? Maybe…, maybe…? Either way, sounds nice with this vibe! Finally, we’ll have a betta-than-decent track? This Extendo dude on tha 1st verse sounds like Foxx! Lol! Tha voice but tha flow, mainly! Luckily, Foxx ain’t wack like Young Thug, who’s wack as fuck! So, he can mimic Foxx; you can’t mimic Thug!! With that bein’ said, you sound nice on this shit, too, keepin’ it goin’ wit that good, Baton Rouge street shit! My Rating: 4.2

11. “Can’t Go Like That”
>>> Sounds like a slow start that I prolly won’t feel… Hearin’ tha hook and yeah, I ain’t fuckin’ with this calm vibe… Tha beat sounds like Zaytoven went under a calm synthesization… Hearin’ you on tha verse and you tryna just drop tha rhymes like this vibe’s all up there…; not! Nothin’ terrible, just not on my level, here… And, whataya know? There’s 16 seconds of silence at tha end! My Rating: 2.6

12. “Built For This” feat. Maine Musik
>>> Sounds like it gon be a good, energized track… Tha hook sounds nice with this upbeat vibe… Hearin’ tha 1st verse from you and it pretty nice ta hold this upbeat vibe down… Hearin’ tha 2nd hook at 1:46 and tha beat’s pretty strong, at one point; trippy! Maine Musik on tha 2nd verse and it decent… Not hearin’ a Baton Rouge vibe in their voice, are they from Maine? Just sayin’! My Rating: 3.7

Overall: Talk about a mixed review! At some points, I thought it was tha best outta your three CDs I reviewed, so far. However, there were a few really low-rated tracks that screwed up your CD rating. Too much decent music with mimicking styles, at times, as well as nothin’ sparkin’ my attention too much… Either way, it looks like you’ll have full potential as an exciting artist if you keep gettin’ Q-Red & B-Real to produce your tracks!
