Review #1,595: Mista Cain "The Godfather"

Reviewed on 11.14.2016 (Review #1,595)

After a bullshit work week, it’s time for some reviewz… With this one, I knew it came out earlier in tha year. However, since I done fell off/am not important to people in Louisiana, anymore, I decided to just wait and wait till I got a link… Sadly, I was never contacted and I had to buy it, just now. I’m confused as to why I have to lay out money for somethin’ that I should be gettin’, especially if tha artist knows about me… Not even on DatPiff or any of those hosting sites, too… Either way, better them to have tha money than anyone at my job!! I’d rather just acknowledge tha fact that I got this… Presented by Cain Muzik & Utopia Music Group, this iz Mista Cain The GodfatherStart Time: 4:05 PM | End Time: 4:54 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> “ iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> “ iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. “Testify”
>>> I’m really feelin’ tha production, here, and tha hook’s pretty nice… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty serious with tha lyrics; good shit! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and you confirmed it: “Ken did tha track;” gotcha. I liked tha 1st verse better with how you came through wit it, but this still nice… My Rating: 4.3

02. “Welcome Back”
>>> Even tho I thought tha previous Ken beat was pretty amazing, this sounds more lively; definitely diggin’ it! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and I’m not feelin’ all tha “racks” shit in tha beginning, but tha rest of this shit rolls, especially when tha beat’s cymbals keep on slammin’! Tha hook kinda explains itself; nice ta hold it down… Nice 2nd verse, too, just holdin’ it down… My Rating: 4.2

03. “No Shootas”
>>> I’ono, but this Italian mafia/Godfather-type beat intro’s got me hooked, right now! Impressin’ me!! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice, holdin’ shit down! Tha hook’s pretty nice, too; diggin’ how tha “shootas”/“ruger” blends with tha Godfather beat theme! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s good, but I was more impressed with tha 1st verse, tho… My Rating: 4.4

04. “Sickest Shit”
>>> Back to tha more-energetic tracks, here! This one sounds pretty hot, here; definitely feelin’ tha hook! Tha hook sounds like some anthemic shit! “Smokin’ on tha loudest that I eva smoked…!” Proud to be blessed! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice, here. I guess it’s a surprise to know that no matter what you say, it passes tha test wit me ‘cause tha formula of tha track’s satisfyin’! Hearin’ tha hook again and it reminds me more of an upbeat Yo Gotti track; dumb shit! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it sounds good, too; gotta feel it! My Rating: 4.3

05. “Running Man” feat. Young Dolph
>>> Nice lil’ Baton Rouge-soundin’ beat start, here, with a nice hook… Hear tha “bow”s in tha background? That’s Beezy Bird bein’ sampled, a Gardere Lane representative that ain’t change on me! Been connected wit him since June 1, 2009! Now, Cain, I was connected wit you in ’10, but why no continuation? You ready to reconnect? Either way, decent lyrics, but too show-off-y with this “money” shit that I can’t dig… Tha 1st verse aight, but you did way betta on these previous tracks… Hearin’ Dolph on tha 2nd verse and yeah, kinda show-off-y, again… Not sayin’ that I don’t like it; I like, but I hear all this yada-yada and it neva comes my way! Why? Also, one-year-wonders? Right before tha 3rd verse, it sounded like it skipped fa a second? Either way, ehh @ these lyrics! Could be tha 1st one under a 4.0? My Rating: 3.8

06. “Never Again” feat. Chrizz Michaels & Starlito
>>> Not diggin’ tha voice in tha very beginning; are we sellin’ out, now? Beat sounds nice; tha voice on tha hook ain’t too bad, here, from this newbie (Chrizz Michaels)… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it’s decent. I’ont get how you randomly went to tha celeb level when you were just an underground artist like tha rest I knew/know? That’s where I respect tha others more than you (e.g., Beezy Bird). Damn, that Chrizz dude raps, too? I’ono, forget about this random-soundin’ 2nd verse… Really, Cain? Coulda got some1 else! Guess we’ll say it like this: “Never again” will he rap anotha verse! Hearin’ Starlito on tha 3rd verse and sadly, when it was ‘04/’05 and he was All-Star, it was nice ta hear/not mainstream! Now, despite not much mainstream success, I still consider it sellout material ‘cause all ‘followers’ and ‘views’, smh… Nothin’ much I can say about tha verse, too… And, “Sinista on tha track,” it said at tha end? My Rating: 3.6

07. “Speak Money” feat. Doe B & Dylan Cage
Ick @ tha title!! >>> Nice lil’ beginning on tha hook from Doe B, includin’ this intense beat, but it’s fuck tha content/lyrics! Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and once I hear, “$30,000 up in 100’s,” I feel like, “Can I shut this off and move on?” It’s whateva… Hearin’ Doe on tha 2nd verse and ehh, not feelin’ these lyrics! He was betta when he was alive! Still, I’ono how you have these connections if you’re supposed to be an undaground artist? Even tho tha others spark me more, Dylan on tha 3rd verse statistically tha best fa me, here, wit how tha verse sounds, overall. No annoying “money” bullshit but it still nice… My Rating: 3.7

08. “Karma”
>>> Hearin’ “mama” and “comma” shit and I wanna turn it off and move on… Hearin’ tha title part and it a lil’ catchy. Almost can mistake it for a “comma;” who knows! Beat sounds nice and happy, I guess? Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it’s decent… Fuck that “get this money” part at tha end of tha 1st verse! Do you nut to “money” or somethin’? I’d say that about everyone, especially when they hold tha word, “Money!” Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it ain’t as bad; just decent… My Rating: 3.6

½time: Tha 1st ¼ of this CD was pretty nice; tha 2nd ¼ was a lil’ weaker than tha 1st ¼, due to “money” and some lyrics/soundin’ verses. Either way, nice job; 4.0 for tha CD rating. Definitely feelin’ how some of tha production iz!

09. “Chad Cain Speaks” (Chad Cain)
Chad Cain, here… >>> Ain’t expect it ta be a lil’ freestyle; nice. My Rating: 3.8

10. “My Youngin”
>>> I’m diggin’ tha Baton Rouge-produced sound, here, includin’ how you comin’ through with this “youngin” shit on tha hook… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s soundin’ good, so far… Luckily, no bullshit cockiness, here… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it ain’t bad, neither… My Rating: 4.0

11. “Making Love” feat. Chrizz Michaels
Again with this Chrizz dude? >>> Ken beat; how will it go? A decent hook from Chrizz, but it’s just okay; kinda mainstream-y? Hope he don’t go further than a hook, tho! Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it’s decent… I think you need to stick to tha street songs; fuck all these love songs! And, tha 2nd verse’s ehh; no interest… My Rating: 3.3

12. “Smiling Faces” feat. P.Y.M.P.
>>> Ken, again. Again, with tha love content; this iz where tha album has its filler moment! Beat ain’t bad—nothing special—and tha hook’s all soulful? You on tha 1st verse and there ain’t much goin’ on wit it… Tha 2nd verse? I’m kinda lost in this random vibe… I’ll just say it’s a lil’ below my interests; more on tha boring side… My Rating: 3.0

13. “Fast Money”
Ick, again!! >>> Hate to admit that, at least, it’s an uplifting vibe; better attempt for Ken, here… Hearin’ tha hook and yeah, whateva; no comment! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and tha rhymes are catchy, here, at least… Not too many “money” references, luckily… And, tha 2nd verse decent, here; not too bad, overall, but not really for me… My Rating: 3.5

14. “Fuck Me Nah”
>>> More Kentacular beats… This beat sounds nice fa tha streetz/club combined… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it ain’t bad; your typical Baton Rouge anthem fa tha streetz… Tha hook ain’t too bad; not much ta say for your typical BR song… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it ain’t bad, either; feelin’ it… My Rating: 3.9

15. “Let Me Handle This”
>>> More Ken tracks… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds like you holdin’ it down on this anthemic beat; nice! Tha hook’s pretty nice, as you’re handlin’ it well! Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ nice ta hear, too, doin’ ya thang… My Rating: 4.0

16. “Murder Shit” feat. Racked-Up Ready
Familiar? I’ono remember… >>> Yeah, this sound familiar and your voice sounds younger, here… Maybe not? Nothin’ comin’ up…? Either way, nice beat, great lil’ street hook from Ready & you doin’ a nice job on tha 1st verse with your younger voice… Hearin’ Ready on tha 2nd verse and it’s that quality BR music, here! It’s all about bein’ descriptive with tha scene and err-thang, without havin’ every song be about tha fuckin’ “money!” My Rating: 4.5

Overall: This was a lil’ betta than decent fa me. Prolly could’ve done without tha love songs and some of tha obsessin’ of money, at times. Other than that, nice job with a good portion of this!
