Review #1,523: E.X.D. "No Elevation"

Reviewed on 9.21.2016 (Review #1,523)

Keepin’ my old school reviewz goin’, here comes my 1st one for today: E.X.D. No Elevation, released in 1993 on In The House Records & produced by tha 39 Posse. Start Time: 2:53 PM | End Time: 3:22 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> “ iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> “ iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. Intro
>>> Anticipates me fa some outside-in-tha-dark gangsta music! My Rating: N/A

02. “No Elevation”
Title track… >>> Beat sounds a lil’ upbeat like K7’s “Come Baby Come” or somethin’, right around tha same time, too… Tha 1st verse ain’t too bad, here; regular rappin’ at its finest, I guess? Tha hook kinda catchy with its anthemic, “Goin’ up, goin’ down,” but I just think it’s okay. Tha 2nd verse sounds a lil’ betta with tha voice but that’s about it… Tha 3rd verse about tha come-up and identically, it’s like tha text I got a few minutes ago: “I need money to get bud bad.” It’s like, I’m not tha only loyal dude out there! Plus, I gotta save what I gotta save!! My Rating: 3.7

03. “Blow Of Death”
>>> Tha beat intro reminds me of my radio show; I prolly played this or somethin’… Either way, definitely diggin’ tha beat and tha rappin’s soundin’ nice on tha 1st verse; jammin’! Consistent rhymin’, here, comin’ through fa tha rap game! A quick lil’ hook? Sounded like it blended in nicely… Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ just as good as tha 1st verse, so that’s wassup… My Rating: 4.4

½time: Only two tracks so far, but still good… A 4.1-rated CD, so far, with good tracks fa tha undaground!

04. “Play You Bitches Dumb”
! >>> Beat ain’t too bad, here, but tha rappin’s betta than tha title track, here… Good job wit tha rappin’ on tha 1st verse, of course… Hearin’ tha hook and it sounds nice… It literally was what E-40 & Keak Da Sneak took 13 years later with “Tell Me When To Go”. Can’t believe that joint’s a decade old, now, when this was a decade older than it, at that time!! Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ good, here; feelin’ tha rhymes… Tha 3rd verse sounds like a nice celebrity life, here… Lol @ tha “what kinda cologne I smell,” as tha bitch smells you… “I was told ta be tight when I was comin’ up…;” nice motivation! My Rating: 4.2

05. Intro II
Anotha one? >>> Gets me anticipated fa more! Gotta luv when I hear tha doors and shit in tha dark; nice and spooky! My Rating: N/A

06. “Knockin’ Niggaz Off”
>>> A dark-soundin’ start, here, with this anthemic hook… Tha beat sounds semi-partyish, semi-gangsta; feelin’ how this sounds… Tha 1st verse sounds pretty nice; can’t complain… Diggin’ tha 2nd verse, here, even rockin’ tha “Polos” and “Girbauds!” Feelin’ tha bounce vibe, here… My Rating: 4.1

07. “Another Brotha Filla Coffin”
8:23 on tha length ta end it off? >>> I’m diggin’ tha slow vibe, here, strictly keepin’ it funky and smooth… Tha 1st verse sounds good; feelin’ tha sad tale of tha “yellow tape” strikin’… Songs like this I won’t quite understand too much, especially with tha, “Can we slow down…?” However, after my brother died of an overdose and all these rappers quittin’, time’s tickin’! Time’s goin’ fast with me workin’ six dayz a week! It’s sad!! While high in tha hikes, I feel paranoid like life gon end or somethin’… It’s just a thought, but know it’ll neva happen!! I gotta continue ta stay around!! Here’s tha 2nd verse, startin’ off wit a birthday: “August tha 17th, 1971.” Ehh, I hate “August tha 17th” ‘cause in 2002, I moved up to Northeast PA & this year, my friend from college got murdered! Tha 1st friend/person I knew outside tha family that I knew in person to die! But, props fa knowin’ your birthday… Rhymes are good; can’t complain… Tha 3rd verse’s soundin’ good ta hear, here… Tha outro reminds me of tha pain from my friend’s mom. It’s like, after seein’ that in Philly earlier this month, at tha funeral service, it’s really real out chea! Gotta enjoy every moment at every time!!! My Rating: 3.8

Overall: I thought this tape went over well. Definitely felt tha production from 39 Posse, here, as well as y’all doin’ ya thang on tha tracks! Gotta keep tha underground vibes goin’! Tha music biz in tha undaground’ll neva die!!
