Review #1,541: Dirty Red & Lil' Bay "Tryin' To Get In"

Reviewed on 9.26.2016 (Review #1,541)

Happy 39th Birthday ta my round, from P.I.R.’s click, Dre Tree Z! With that bein’ said, let’s review some quality, old Louisiana music! Dirty Red & Lil’ Bay, anotha release from them called Tryin’ To Get In, released in 1995 on FrayserClick Records & produced by DJ Sound! Start Time: 9:04 AM | End Time: 9:46 AM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> “ iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> “ iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. “Intro”
>>> Ooh, sounds like it can be a track! Diggin’ this dark, grimy sound in tha beginning! Reminds me of Three 6 Mafia “Tear Da Club Up”, wit how y’all deliver tha beginning part! I know y’all were before their anthem, but that’s what it reminds me of… Definitely feelin’ all these repeatin’ parts! Tha rappin’ sounds nice ta hear, here… My Rating: 4.5

02. “Pop In Them Clips”
>>> Beat’s pretty anthemic and consistent wit those keys and dark vibe!! Tha hook’s pretty intense! I swear, Three 6 Mafia could’ve jacked their old style from y’all! That’s what it reminds me of! Holy, fuckin’ intensity in tha 1st verse, here!! Fast rappin’ and those keys are too intense!!! This gotta be perfectly-rated from me!! Hook’s pretty nice; didn’t even need ta be dat long! Let’s just keep tha rhymes goin’!! Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ excellent, too, just like tha 1st verse!! My Rating: 5.0

03. “Wake Up & Open Yo Eyes”
!! >>> This sounds excellent, too! If I had ta describe these beats, I’d describe ‘em as “Louisiana Nintendo!” Gotta play dem throwback games while listenin’ to/reviewin’ these CDs!! Hearin’ tha hook and it’s definitely tha shit! It’s tha truth! Gotta keep dem “eyes” “open!” Tha 1st verse’s pretty nice, here; feelin’ tha content! It’s all about keepin’ it gangsta, but that’s a law! It’s not just an attribute! Y’all definitely have been tha best outta everything I’ve reviewed, recently, outta all tha old CDs in tha last week! Y’all go great wit dem Graveyard Soldjas! My Rating: 4.7

04. “I’m Just A Husler”
>>> Sounds like a scary, clown-like, gat-rattlin’ intro, here! Good shit and tha beat sounds nice! Tha 1st verse’s soundin’ like it’s goin’ great! Great job deliverin’ this shit! Tha hook sounds nice; kinda sounds like it has a lil’ bit of a current sound ta it, in tha lyrics: “All about tha money, mane!” However, it ain’t wack like most of tha current shit out, now! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s soundin’ pretty nice; consistent rhymin’ about dat livin’! Good job wit tha 3rd verse, here! Sounds like a young Gucci Mane, like, a 2004 one, lol… However, this sounds betta… My Rating: 4.4

05. “Comin’ Up In Tha Game”
Not so long? Let’s see… >>> Quality’s kinda ehh with tha audio but I can feel this undaground, crazy vibe, of course! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and this shit’s official! G-shit at its finest!! Tha beat’s pretty hot; definitely feelin’ tha undaground intensity! Tha hook’s pretty nice; definitely feelin’ it! That voice that’s singin’ almost sounds like a joke but it’s actually pretty tight! See, in today’s world, I’d prolly be like, “WTF wit dat voice?!? Lower rating!!” However, it sounds perfectly fine fa dis old school gangsta shit! Tha 2nd verse’s pretty nice, too! Feelin’ it just as much as tha 1st verse, if not, betta!! My Rating: 4.6

½time: I think this an excellent release from y’all, once again!! I think I like this betta than tha one I just reviewed, previously (Blood In, Blood Out); great job!! A 4.6-rated CD; keep it goin’!!!

06. “Young Life, Thug Life”
>>> This sounds nice! Beat’s a lil’ slower but dat true, gangsta shit, or as I call it, “Louisiana Nintendo!” Great job wit tha 1st verse, here; feelin’ it! An interlude in tha mist of this? Almost sounds like an outro… However, here comes a 2nd verse, and it’s ‘bout dat G-shit; nice! Seemed like a short verse and then, a beat outro came… My Rating: 4.3

07. “Straight Gangsta Shit” feat. Bloody Bones
Anticipatin’ tha feature, includin’ this “straight”-up title, lol! >>> Sounds nice… Tha hook sounds pretty nice, here; nice beat, too! Tha 1st verse sounds betta; feelin’ tha fast rappin’! Then, around :53, tha beat sounds like we’re in a jungle, runnin’ wit these rhymes! I feel like that while I’m explorin’ abandoned areas! Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ nice, here; great collab! Y’all know what it iz!! My Rating: 4.4

08. “If You Cross Me”
! >>> Beat and hook sounds nice, here; gangsta shit at its finest!! Tha 1st verse’s definitely official! Y’all got this shit on lock!! Whateva y’all on, altogether, it makes y’all tha undaground supastarz y’all are!! Really diggin’ tha distorted voice on tha hook; good shit! Tha 2nd verse’s voice sounds a lil’ regular, but tha rhymes/delivery’s nice, tho… Tha 3rd verse sounds a lil’ betta; consistent rhymin’ fa tha Gz, here! My Rating: 4.4

09. “Robbery Shit”
Looks like tha “shit” I wanna hear! >>> Beat sounds pretty nice in tha beginning! It’s almost a lil’ mainstream-y with tha sound in tha beginning, but it’s dat true, undaground shit! Tha hook’s pretty cool, here, wit tha way y’all deliverin’ it! No hook? It’s all good… Tha 2nd verse sounds nice, here; y’all rap this shit wit a cool delivery! Ramblin’ and rappin’ and rattlin’ and runnin’ thangz!! “R”z!!! My Rating: 4.5

10. “Tha Game Done Changed Me”
>>> Sounds like a nice start, here; beat’s nice and tha hook’s pretty nice, fa da undaground! Tha 1st verse’s comin’ through fast! Feelin’ tha gangsta shit, as always!! Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ nice, too; sounds great fa tha CD ending, too! My Rating: 4.3

11. “What We Gone Do”
Endin’ it with… >>> Sounds nice; feelin’ tha gangsta vibe, of course. Tha hook sounds simple, but it ain’t bad, of course… Tha 1st verse’s soundin’ great fa a gangsta’s tale! Everythang in tha ‘90s gangsta’s life: “Police,” “smokin’ a blunt,” “on a chase,” you name it! It’s all about “what [y’all] gone do!” And, “as I’m runnin’ fa my life;” crazy shit, of course! Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ nice! Oh, wow, a long joint! Ain’t realize it was 6:27 on tha length! Lots of gangsta shit goin’ on in tha 2nd verse, between shit gettin’ shot at vs. tha phone bein’ dialed! “Tha penalty iz D-E-A-D-L-Y;” nice! Tha 3rd verse’s soundin’ nice, too… Y’all were killin’ “cops” before all this racism shit happened, earlier this summer with Alton Sterling! Tha 4th verse’s soundin’ a lil’ betta wit tha rhymin’; nice that it’s a lil’ faster… Here comes tha 5th verse; a teenager? Sounds like a youngin… Dude shootin’ and comin’ through like an on-tha-come-up G, here… Nice job wit tha 6th verse, here, as y’all just attackin’ “cops,” here… Same thing wit tha 7th verse, here. However, tha 7th verse sounds betta, as it’s rapped faster and tha rhymes are more consistent! Crazy shit!! Not bad fa a track wit not many hooks… Tha outro sounds nice; grimy shit! It’s all about that late-night, red-type shit! My Rating: 4.2

Overall: I really enjoyed this shit to tha fullest! Definitely felt tha whole entire CD! Y’all really ‘bout dat red-and-black gangsta shit, as far as tha rhymes! And, dat “Louisiana Nintendo,” as far as tha production! DJ Sound definitely got shit on lock!! Nothin’ more grimy than this, it feels like!! Now, was this betta than tha previous CD, Blood In, Blood Out? We’ll see when tha total score gets released, below!
