Reviewed on 2.08.2008 (Review No. 50)
Watz good it's FrankieThaLuckyDog checkin' in again. Happy 25th birthday to Diana Falzone today! Tonight's mixtape that I'm gonna be reviewing iz tha "Unload Records" mixtape. This gon be sort of a "blind review" 'cause I don't have tha artists. I only have tha titles (as they're printed out on tha CD). But lemme review it, and after tha review, I'll have a lil' bonus review. I'm gonna review one song from Yung Gwop called "Prada Game" (since my dawg Jimmy The DJ sent it to me). Start Time: 11:50 PM | Video Game Playing: Wheel Of Fortune (for Nintendo) (on my computer)
01. "Touch Dem Toez"
Looks like a title that might have to do wit "bounce music". Will I be right? Let's see how we gon start this thang off… >>> I guess you can say tha hook iz very danceable. Can't hate on it. Gotta feel it. Tha beat almost reminds me of "Goodies" wit that whistling in tha background of tha beat. I like that "shake ya wobble-bust it" (if that's right) in tha hook. Yeah this iz good for me. My Rating: 3.9
02. / 03. "Stay On Ya Grind"
Yeah I finna skip tha Radio Edit and go to tha Street version (since I prefer dirty versions). I got a High AL for it, so let's see what happens! >>> Like tha hook (mainly 'cause it says "dawg", and I like that when it comes to tha slang). Sounds good. I like all tha slang terms in this. A banger right here. Sounds like a white rapper rappin' (for some reason, that's what I'm predicting). Good verses, and pretty decent beat. My Rating: 4.4
04. "We Really Do This"
Hopefully whoever "really did this" did it good! >>> Beat sounds real hot! Nice 1st verse, and tha hook sounds pretty good. Not bad. Sounded pretty good. Gotta give props to that beat. My Rating: 4.2
05. "Keep It Pimpin'"
Wonder what it'll sound like. I have a feelin' it won't be as good as tha 334 Mobb song from 2005… >>> Oh no this "Make Me Better" beat again! Already 334 Mobb's version iz a lot better. However, this iz soundin' a lot better than tha Shod B & Pistol Pete joint "Best Thang" that I reviewed yesterday. Tha hook iz remade good. Even tha flowin' on this at least resembles tha Fab/Ne-Yo joint. My Rating: 3.4
½time: Nice for a start, especially since I don't know who's on tha mixtape. I'm very tired right now, so if I don't write that much, that's why.
06. "Dope Boy"
Tha featured artist got cut off when it was printed on tha CD (couldn't see who it was). Anyway, let's see what this gon sound like. Hopefully it's not a jacked beat, or else I'll prolly be mad! >>> Okay after lookin' at tha title, I thought it was gonna be ova tha "Dope Boy Fresh" beat, but nah, it's ova tha "Blue Magic" beat. I guess I don't mind. Nice hook, and tha flowin'/rhymes sound pretty good. My Rating: 3.6
07. "Chevy Ridin' Rite"
Looks like "Chevy Ridin' High" wit tha title. Will it be ova that beat? >>> Correct. Damn I miss this joint and this beat. It won "Best Beat" on my 2006 Awards in 2006. Tha hook iz good. Feelin' these raps no matter what they sound like. My Rating: 3.8
08. "8 Minutes"
I looked, and I saw that this joint was about 8 minutes long. Lemme go get a drink, and I'll come back to peep it out… …. >>> I was just about to say "it can't be a jacked beat," but it iz!! I'll accept this one tho 'cause it's hot. I like tha line "like Destiny's Child, we all survivors." Yeah "New Orleans still breathin', ya dig" <- Gotta feel that line. Yeah they still breathin', but they NEVA gon stop bringin' tha HEAT! Tha rappin' iz hot on this. I like how tha dude on this did tha background vocals thing that Polow Da Don did in tha original. Tha 4th (I think) verse soundin' great (starts wit "bible in one hand, gun in otha hand." For "8 minutes", I thought that joint went quick. My Rating: 4.1
09. "Let Me In Here"
Heard tha beat intro (on accident), and it sounded hot. Got a High AL for it! >>> Great 1st verse, and great hook. Gotta feel that tight beat! Lol @ "he acts *Shop Boyz voice* totally rude!" Yeah you betta get to tha club and do yo thang! Tha rest of tha song was hot as well. My Rating: 4.3
10. "I'm So Gangsta"
Hopefully a good ending to this mixtape! >>> Lol @ tha "I'm So Hood" beat! I like that hook. It's just as good as tha "I'm So Hood" hook. Tha 2nd hook doesn't sound like it lined up wit tha beat. Either way, that sounded good, especially wit tha hook! My Rating: 4.0
Overall: End Time: 12:41 AM. Wow I'm REALLY tired as fuck! But that was a pretty nice underground mixtape. Short, but good enough to not make me fall asleep!
Rankings (according to ratings):
09. "Keep It Pimpin'" 3.4
08. "Dope Boy" 3.6
07. "Chevy Ridin' Rite" 3.8
06. "Touch Dem Toez" 3.9
05. "I'm So Gangsta" 4.0
04. "8 Minutes" 4.1
03. "We Really Do This" 4.2
02. "Let Me In Here" 4.3
01. "Stay On Ya Grind" 4.4
And as promised, here's my lil' review for Yung Gwop's single "Prada Game" (since it came wit tha "Unload Records" mixtape, in tha same CD case). I got a High AL for it! >>> Production iz off tha chain! Reminds me of Natureboy Rowe's "This In You". Sounds real cool/tight. I rockin' my red/white/black polo right now, lookin' fresh. Tight hook. I personally think this joint iz better than any of tha songs from tha "Unload Records" mixtape. Yeah Yung Gwop. Hope to hear more from this dude in tha future. Hope you get yo gwop game up. My Rating: 4.5
