Review #57: Big Jay Presents "Pyrex Radio Vol. 3: On Tha Muscle"

Reviewed on 2.15.2008 & 2.16.2008 (Review No. 57)

Wat iz good it's Frankie wit tha 15th review for February. Tonight's review iz gonna be tha Big Jay Presents… "Pyrex Radio 3: On Tha Muscle" mixtape. I wonder what to expect from this compilation… Start Time: 11:58 PM | Video Game Playing: Mario Kart 64 (for Nintendo 64) (on my computer)

Disclaimer:
I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me or have auto-tune in your vocals, I’m not buyin’ it!

01. Pyrex Radio Vol 3 "Intro"
I have a feeling this gon sound a lil' old. What year iz this from? Lemme hear this intro. >>> A bunch of '06 beats. I'm guessin' this mixtape iz from 2006. My Rating: N/A

02. Max Minelli "Open Up Shop"
This mixtape starts off wit this dude. I'm really glad to be reviewing a compilation wit a bunch of different artists on one mixtape. This like one of tha 1st ones this month! I got a High AL for this joint! >>> Sounded like "Hustlin'" in tha beginning. I was just about to say he sounds like Foxx, but I think it's tha other way around: Foxx sounds a lil' like him. Nice and smooth right here. Tryna get used to/hearing more of Max Minelli, so this joint definitely gets a thumbs up from me. My Rating: 4.3

03. Magno Feat. Kiotti "Goin' Off"
Looks like it might be another banga as well. High AL on this too! >>> Oh so this must be on tha later side of '06 'cause of tha "Chuck Up The Deuce" beat in tha background. I expected this to be a lil' earlier version of 2006. Damn it has been a long time since I heard Magno. What happened to him? Music Choice Rap neva played anything by him… Only Hot 97 did in 2005 wit "Magnificent 'Bout His Cash". His part sounded real good, and Kiotti soundin' real good as well. I had a feeling they were "goin' off" on this joint. This iz one of tha better soundin' "jacked beat" songs. My Rating: 4.2

04. Johnnie Domino Feat. Bobby T & Big Head "How They Want It"
I think I only heard of Big Head. Iz this gon be a Louisiana song? >>> Real simple hook in tha beginning… Oh yeah gotta give props to my dawg Jimmy The DJ for sendin' me this mixtape as well. Major props on that! I seem to be really likin' this joint even tho it's too simple. Okay I really like tha hook now. Seems like it's catchin' on real good right now! Great collabo and verses! My Rating: 4.4
^ Prolly tha best "comeback" review for a song from tha beginning of tha song to tha end!

05. Nu$$ie & Diablo Feat. Savage "We Be Thuggin'"
Did I review this a few dayz ago? *Checks* Yes I did (Nu$$ie's "Bad Azz" CD), and it looks like I really liked it 'cause I gave it a 4.3 rating. Lookin' forward to re-hearing it! >>> Yeah tha hook sounds good. Lemme copy/paste that review right now: It's good, even tho I expected better 'cause "We Live It" Feat. Bra Bra & G – Thang did VERY good for a first listen wit me. Feelin' that hook tho. Yeah tha hook goes hard! Made tha joint stay hot! Yeah this mixtape so far iz REAL HOT! I thought I'd be real tired 'cause it's late, but I'm awake, and definitely in tha mood for this mixtape! By tha way, only on a second listen, I'm feelin' it EVEN BETTER now! My Rating: 4.5 (A +0.2 to tha rating)

06. Big K.R.I.T. "It's A Big Boy Thang"
Will this be tha 5th joint to keep thangz consistent?? >>> Slow smooth start to tha beat. Sounds like some underground down south shit. Tha hook sounded a lil' like T.I. & Jody Breeze mixed. Not bad so far. That joint sounded pretty good. Not as good as tha last 4 jointz, but still pretty good. Nice rhymes and pretty good hook. Oh yeah at tha end wit that phone call, to havin' tha Baton Rouge to New Orleans connection! That's REALLY watz good! My Rating: 3.9

07. Sqad Up Feat. Mannie Fresh "Parkin' Lot"
How lucky will No. 7 be? >>> Sounds like it was a single. I like that beat in tha background during tha hook. Sounds decent to me. Verses was good to hear and tha hook was pretty good, but tha song overall was just decent. My Rating: 3.6

08. Young Ready "He A Gangsta"
Do I know this dude from somewhere? Name sounds familiar (minus tha "young"). >>> Not officially sure, but I just know that this joint iz definitely soundin' good. Really feelin' that hook wit all tha "he a gangsta, we a gangsta…"s. Young Ready doin' his thang on this joint. I also really like tha gangsta style. Real nice beat too! My Rating: 4.3

09. Neff & 38 $lim "Neva Be Shit"
Heard tha beat in tha beginning for tha 1st second and it sounded familiar. Wonder what this iz… >>> Yeah I almost forgot tha beat, but it's tha Youngbloodz joint wit Mannie Fresh "What's Tha Bizzness" or somethin' like that. I like tha hook, and tha flowin' and shit sounds good on this joint. Good rhymes too. My Rating: 3.9

10. Blaze "Anybody Can Get It"
Only thing that comes to mind: " ? " >>> Tha beat sounds like tha dude that produced "I'm A G" by Lil' Keke/Birdman. I can't say anything negative about any of these jointz. They're dirty south and, especially, they're from Louisiana. Tha rhymes on this one was real good. My Rating: 3.7

11. Young Ready, B.T. & Savage "Dumb Thug"
Ooh look @ this collabo! Really lookin' forward! VERY HIGH AL!! >>> Not bad on tha hook. This shit iz nice. I really liked Savage's part. Sorry, I think I had too much AL for this. Still good joint tho. Maybe if I re-hear it a bunch of times I'd prolly like it a lil' more. My Rating: 3.8

½time: Definitely some good shit right here! Nice mixtape! It's 1:01 AM and I'm a lil' tired, so I finna go to sleep right now. I finna continue tha 2nd ½ tomorrow… >>> Aight back at 'cha at 11:20 AM on 2.16.2008. I finna continue this mixtape review, and I'm definitely lookin' forward to seein' what's next!

12. T-Lo Of Da Jiggalators & Savage "I'm Rollin'"
Back 2 back Savage! Definitely lookin' forward to hearin' this wit lots of AL on this! >>> Didn't expect it to hit nice and loud like that in tha beginning! I guess this iz 'cause I have my radio up by 3 since last night. Great 1st verse by T-Lo & Savage, as well as a real good hook! Love tha beat! I like tha "charge it like dead batteries" line. My Rating: 4.4

13. Rich Boy Feat. Mannie Fresh "D-Boyz"
Oh my, lol… Even tho 2.5 years old, I'm still FEELIN' it! Good Rich Boy classic right here! I'm surprised Rich Boy didn't get that Xtra-Xposure wit this joint. That beat will alwayz be on point as well as Mannie Fresh's parts, especially wit tha "trick sniff it up ur nose." My Current Rating: 4.3

14. Thug Brothers "I'm 'Bout Whatever"
This one looks good. Hope it sounds as good as it looks! >>> Sounds good already wit tha beat. This a lil' smoother for me, but definitely sounds hot. Feelin' it. Great verses and pretty good hook. 2nd verse REAL good wit all that fast rappin'! So this iz a Mouse production huh (from what tha dude on tha 3rd verse said)? If so, yeah, it's hot. My Rating: 4.1

15. Savage Feat. T-Lo Of Da Jiggalators & Big Markee "I Ain't Got No Mind"
Lol @ tha error on tha ID. For No. 12, it says "Of Tha Jiggalaters" and for this one it says "Of The Jiggalaters". Lol. I fixed it in tha ID that I'm ID'ing. I have a feelin' I reviewed this already ('cause of tha beat intro), but it must be a jacked beat if I didn't. Or wait, maybe not. Tha beat intro reminded me of one of them themes to somethin' on TV. Not sure what it was… maybe Hood Fab? I dunno. Lemme hear this joint tho. >>> Yeah I neva reviewed this before, but this iz HOT! Real good Savage verse! What are all those letters in tha hook? I can't connect them, lol. Tight joint. My Rating: 4.2

16. Neff & 38 $lim "Keep Pushin'"
I'm glad they're back again on this joint. Hopefully this doesn't have that hook (or beat) to tha Bun B joint in 2005 from "Trill". Let's see for this special No. 16! >>> Poor me for guessin' right! Feelin' tha 1st verse. I just looked at my review for tha other joint by theirs on this mixtape, and I remembered that joint was also a used beat. Oh no iz tha next joint gonna "drop an ol' skool beat"? That's my guess… This wasn't so special for No. 16. I usually predict a special song for No. 16 'cause that usually happens wit one compilation I review. My Rating: 3.3

17. J-Von a.k.a. Jimmy Mack "Born 2 Roll"
Lookin' forward to this. I noticed his name has 2 parts: one part iz someone that's real cool wit me (Jimmy The DJ), and tha other part iz someone that's an asshole that underrates me at my college (by no longer talkin' to me/approvin' my comments on Myspace/becomin' my friend on Facebook) and tries to be all cool, but he ain't cool when it comes to respectin' (Ray-Mack). I think I'll keep it more on a positive look wit tha Jimmy part 'cause Jimmy The DJ blows pretty much everyone away at my college! >>> Good ol' skool beat. It reminds me of somethin' on Music Choice Sounds Of The Seasons. This iz tha beat that Ashanti used on her single "Still On It" in 2005. Tha hook iz good, and tha flowin' iz pretty tight. Nice consistant rhymin'. My Rating: 3.5

18. Yung Sicka "I Get It On"
Let's see… Hopefully good for an under 3 minutes joint. >>> Feelin' tha beat, and tha hook iz good! Tha whole joint was jammin'. My Rating: 4.2

19. Mookie Blakk "Fully Fully"
Looks like a "Bully Bully" sample? >>> Flow sounds real good. Real nice. I like tha "cuh" in tha hook (a.k.a. "cuz" but more down-south style – my boy Lee a.k.a. LeAnthony says it like that). Nice joint also. My Rating: 4.0

20. Young Jeezy Feat. Dino West "So Gangsta"
This one iz in red font on tha mixtape tracklisting (while tha other artists are in yellow font). What's this gon be like (I neva heard it)? High AL! >>> Don't like tha beat intro. Not tha type of Young Jeezy beat I'd hear. Young Jeezy's 1st verse was real good (of course), but why tha fuck this joint sooooooooooooooo soft?????? Tha hook was too soft for me. Where's tha "gangsta" type of beat? I'd rather hear tha No. 5 joint on this mixtape ("We Be Thuggin'"). This was sorta unneccessary to be on here. My N64 game just went out for tha 2nd time on this mixtape. Booooo to this joint. My Rating: 2.8

21. Tyte Wurk "Mary Jane"
This should be real good. His joint from last year "Who You Wit" was real tight. I tried finding it, but I couldn't, so that's why it wasn't played wit me in 2007. Got a High AL for this, and just by tha title ('cause it has to do wit drugs), it BETTER be good, unlike that Young Jeezy/Dino West song! >>> I like all them different terms to weed in tha hook (gonja, buddha, dro, haze, Mary Jane). I almost got thrown off by tha smooth beat, but it's better than tha Young Jeezy/Dino West one. Sounds like Jazzy Pha on tha hook. Why iz this edited??? Sounds good on tha 1st verse tho. Yeah aren't u glad you got your "Mary Jane" ('cause of tha "amen"s). If I had to make a law, I'd make marijuana and cocaine legal, all because 1.) cigarettes are legal 2.) it should be tha PERSON's responsibility to take whateva/how much they want of it. My Rating: 4.2

22. S.C.C. "Buck With Me"
This must be tha last joint 'cause No. 23 ain't even on tha tracklisting. Let's see how we gon end this. In a crunk matter? >>> Familiar beat, but I really like it. Great intro! Not crunk, but hot. Why was tha last verse cut off? Hook was tight, and tha joint sounded pretty good. My Rating: 4.0

23. [ No ID ]
It wasn't labeled, so I just labeled it as that. Let's see how tha outro gon sound. >>> It's not an outro. It's a song… Not bad on it. Too short. I don't know why most of these songs at tha end were so short. My Rating: 3.4

Overall: End Time: 2.16.2008 @ 12:20 PM. I think tha beginning was better, but tha beginning of tha 2nd ½ was real good as well. This mixtape was definitely on some hot shit!
