Review #63: DJ Scream & MLK Present Big Kuntry King "Cocaine Kuntry (The Underboss)"

Reviewed on 2.21.2008 & 2.22.2008 (Review No. 63)

What tha deal iz, it's ya boy Frankie back at ya. I finished all tha CD/mixtape reviews Jimmy The DJ sent me, so now I'm just findin' some online. I came across a Big Kuntry mixtape, so I was like "lemme review this shit. Shit looks good," so here goes my review for DJ Scream & MLK Present Big Kuntry King "Cocaine Kuntry (The Underboss)", tha mixtape review by FrankieThaLuckyDog. Definitely lookin' forward since I had a real great day at college! Start Time: 11:06 PM | Video Game Playing: Super Mario RPG (for Super Nintendo) (on my computer)

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me or have auto-tune in your vocals, I’m not buyin’ it!

© 2008 CD Review (Review #63) reviewed on 2.21.2008 & 2.22.2008 by FrankieThaLuckyDog.

01. "Cops And Robbers"
I already know this mixtape gon be str8 FIYA!! There's no doubting Big Kuntry, so jumpstartin' this thang off wit a High AL (anticipation level) 'cause of 1st joint on here and good title! >>> Didn't expect it to just be an intro, but OMG they threw a fuckin' AMBIENT song in tha intro!!!!!!!!!!!!! FC Kahuna "Hayling". That was tha most unexpected intro beat eva!!! Good intro, even tho I've heard better ones. My Rating: N/A

02. "Forgot 2 Put The Album Out"
Okay here's where my official High AL starts, especially since it's produced by that marvelous dude Marvelous J. / Aight finally back after a 15 minute break. I did a freestyle and someone from my college did 2 freestyles 2 dayz ago, so I took it off my camera (which I recorded it off of) and I put it to my iTunes (as an mp3). Now lemme finally get into this joint! >>> Sounds good (of course). Different hook to me. Kinda a simple start for me, but you know I felt it. I did hear better from Marvelous J tho (he produced "Dis Morning" on tha Rocko Da Don mixtape, and I liked that song a lot better). My Rating: 4.0

03. "Da Unda Boss Speaks"
Okay, what tha bidness iz? >>> Yeah free T.I. already!! 'Preciate that interlude dawg. My Rating: N/A

04. "The Mobb"
Got a High AL. You already know I gotta hear sum new Big Kuntry shit! >>> A real good beat, and sorta short @ 2:46 in length. Sounds a lot better than tha 1st song I reviewed. Better beat, and better song pretty much and I'm only 50 seconds in. Big Kuntry got those nice rhymes, and makes those tight "trap" songs. Keep doin' tha damn thang! My Rating: 4.4

05. "How I Do" Feat. Macboney
Another High AL for me 'cause it's produced by Nard & B again (they produced tha previous joint). Let's see what Kuntry & Macboney got cookin' up here! >>> Lol @ tha "c'monnnnnn!" I'm feelin' tha simple hook on this one. Beat iz aight (sounds very little like "That's Right"). I pretty much forgot Macboney's voice, but now I remember it. Good shit from tha both of them. Lovin' anything that has to do wit tha trap. My Rating: 4.2

06. "Straight Thuggin'"
Not just "straight thuggin'", but "straight" up Nard & B productions goin' on here! This iz 3 in a row, so here comes another High AL! >>> I think I like this beat better than "How I Do". I like tha hook better too. Definitely feelin' it. As long as there's shit about drugs in these jointz, you know there's a really good chance I'd give each song at least a 4.0 rating! Aight as this kept continuing, I started to like this tha best outta these 4 songs so far. That's a real hot hook once again! My Rating: 4.5

07. "Steering Wheel"
I see that it's produced by Khao. Iz Khao tha dude that produced "Tuck Ya Ice" and "In The Hood" or am I thinkin' of someone else? I know that dude's name iz Kane. Khao sounds like someone else, but I can't really remember right now. I guess a High AL, why not (just 'cause I'm curious to know about Khao on tha beat)! >>> Tha beat iz a lil' different from what I expected. Sounds like some "intro to a mixtape" music. I guess I'm not officially sure about Khao. Big Kuntry seems like he's havin' fun rappin' ova this beat (as he decided to bring it back). I was just about to say, it reminds me of somethin' somebody would freestyle on, and this sounds more like a freestyle. Hey, I hear a sample in tha background. During tha beat it sounds like tha intro music to tha dance track "Wait A Minute" by Martinee & Katharine Cue from 2005. I was gonna play that joint today, but I forgot. Damn I love these most unexpected things!! That's like 2 already. My Rating: 4.1

08. T.I. "Speaks"
Let's hear what tha king has to say. >>> Sounds like T.I. when he wasn't so big (since he was on tha phone, but I know he's in jail). Yeah, Big Kuntry gon show these fuck boyz some shit! My Rating: N/A

09. "I'ma G" Feat. T.I.
I neva heard (nor have I eva saw this) before. Nard & B back at it. Let's see what all them cooked up. High AL easily for this! >>> No wonder I ain't heard; it's a world premiere! Real nice beat intro! Just by Big Kuntry sayin' "dawg" alone in tha hook already makes it real good. Nice hook. Good T.I. verse. Yeah Big Kuntry, you "always limpin' 'cause you're pockets." Tha beat iz now remindin' me a lil' of tha Lil' Keke/Birdman joint "I'm A G". Good Big Kuntry verse too, but that just ended unexpectically (I was lookin' at my iTunes for a sec and then all of a sudden, this joint just ended). My Rating: 4.2

10. "Anthem" Feat. B.G. & Twista
Let's hear this "anthem"! Another High AL, and another Nard & B beat! >>> Not bad for a start. I didn't expect B.G. on tha hook (I thought it was gonna be Kuntry). B.G. did his thang. I have a feelin' his part iz gonna be my favorite outta this joint. Not bad on Big Kuntry's part. Tha beat iz pretty good too. I like Twista's part, especially tha "new-ass, fake-ass, kick-ass" part. I had a feeling this was gonna happen: I like Twista's part better than B.G., so Twista gets tha crown on this one. My Rating: 4.3

11. "Crazy"
Let's see what's goin' on here… >>> Likin' that "gangsta-trance" beat in tha beginning. Nice fusion. Good sounding, and tha hook sounds tha best at tha end of it. It has a Young Jeezy feel to it (this joint that iz). I finna give this tha same rating as "Anthem", but I feel this better, so this beats "Anthem" in a tie breaker. My Rating: 4.3

12. "Swagger" Feat. Shawty Lo
Title being "Swagger" = High AL Pt. 1; Shawty Lo on tha feature = High AL Pt. 2; Nard & B on tha beat = High AL Pt. 3; Big Kuntry 'bout to do tha damn thang by mixin' those 1st 3 things I menti.. High AL Pt. 4!!!! >>> Yeah shout out to Rocko Da Don. I was just about to say "that first verse sounds so much like Rocko," but naw, it's Shawty Lo. A lot of people don't jack my swag at college, but I feel as tho my swag outshines a lot of people easily. I don't rock pajamas, lol!! Good shit, even tho it felt short. My Rating: 4.5

½time: Aight it's 12:20 AM. I gotta wake up at 6:00 AM to get ready for college. I finna hit tha bed, but b4 I do, I gotta fix up tha new songs I downloaded for my iPod (which'll prolly take a ½ hour). I'll be back sometime tomorrow to finish this review. Good mixtape so far. Not one song under a 4.0 rating! Can it stay like this? We'll find out when I continue! >>> Those songs took me about 1 and a ½ hours to fix up last night, so I was up 'til 2:21 AM (in honor of tha date, lol). But shit, I'm such an ass… I just ate dinner now, and it's 11:11 PM (lol). I only had one bowl of cereal. I didn't wanna have a 2nd one 'cause I'm not really into having cereal anymore, even tho I've been obsessed wit eating cereal since 'round like tha mid 90's. Anyway, I didn't have college today 'cause of tha snow up here (so I was real busy throughout tha day and I couldn't get to review tha rest of this right away), so that really fuckin' sucked 'cause I wanted to hang out wit my boy Jewison and a few of my other boyz today, and even worse: I found out my brother stole $200 from me around a few weeks ago (from my money box that was locked; my mom had tha key and he broke into it still). I wasn't that mad 'cause I first thought that $200 was already spent by me. At least I can get it back. But also, I mean, I don't mind if people smoke weed or drink, but still, no need to STEAL money from me for that shit. I'm ur fuckin' brother. Steal tha shit from someone else, or in your (my brother)'s usual case: bum out on tha street like you alwayz do!! Now I'm DEFINITELY in tha mood for tha rest of this mixtape!! I got to finish it b4 12 'cause I gotta start tonight's b4 12.

13. "Da Unda Boss Speaks About New Single (Da Baddest)"
Yeah I wanna hear about this new single! >>> Iz that beat in tha background for this song? I hope so… Oh wait never mind, that was tha beat to tha previous song. No wonder why that song got a 4.5 ("Swagger" Feat. Shawty Lo). My Rating: N/A

14. "Da Baddest" Feat. Trey Songz
Okay Mr. "Sexual Eruption" on tha beat. Got a High AL for it. Trey Songz makes a good feature, so let's see what's up. >>> I like tha "gangsta-trance" intro again. I thought I was gonna like this tha least, but this some hot shit right here. Sounds like a FIYA single! Trey Songz definitely sounds good on tha hook. I know "That's Right" didn't do anything really (except for Music Choice Rap), so we'll hopefully see a future wit this song. My Rating: 4.3

15. "Sun-Glasses" Feat. Lil' 3rd
Back to tha Nard & B productions! >>> Lovin' these styles on this mixtape!! Always liked that "Sunglasses At Night" when it comes to samplin' it. Of course I like tha electronic beat. Great rhymes and great P$C feel! My Rating: 4.2

16. "Killing" Feat. Yung L.A.
I always have High ALs for No. 16 on tha mixtape, and tha way Big Kuntry iz "KILLING" this mixtape, I know for a fact this joint gon be FIYA, so definitely a High AL! >>> Finally DJ Scream talkin'… He has been quiet throughout this mixtape. Feelin' that beat. It reminds me of an electronic glow-in-tha-dark ball bouncin' across a room in tons of different directions. Real hot beat! Definitely some good club shit, even tho it sounds more on tha "street" tip than on tha club tip (which I like better when it's like this). My Rating: 4.3

17. Haitian Fresh Feat. Big Kuntry & Rick Ross "Fast Lane"
I like how tha ID iz fixed like that. That's what I do when I burn shit onto my iTunes from a CD. I make sure it's officially correct. Definitely a " + ", ESPECIALLY on this HOT-ASS mixtape!! >>> Sounds good for tha beat and Rick Ross's part. I almost was gonna say that this might not be at least a 4.0 rating, but I think it might be 'cause that's a HOT hook. This should grow on me in tha future, especially wit them great lyrics! My Rating: 4.0

18. Dunk Ryders Feat. Big Kuntry, Young Jeezy, Slick Pulla & Young Dro "Fuck Da Other Side (Remix)"
I'm guessin' Big Kuntry iz on this. I dunno if I'm gettin' worried a lil' ('cause of tha different IDs), but who knows how long this NICE-ASS consistant 4.0 or higher ratings can continue. Hope this can continue it! >>> It's nice and long (tha longest on here; 4:51). Okay good beat intro. Shouldn't this be "feat. Big Kuntry" 'cause he ain't a part of tha Dunk Ryders. I guess that's an ID error. Good part by Big Kuntry, and okay hook. What's wit Young Jeezy? I would've had a High AL if I knew he was on here. Now it's Slick Pulla. What's goin' on here?? Both their parts were good. I finna have to fix tha ID a lil' just we know who's on here. That dude after Slick Pulla was featured on tha "Welcome To The Gunshine State" song. Nobody knew who it was, so it was only sourced as "some Dunk Ryders nigga". Iz Young Dro after tha Dunk Ryders dude? How unexpected again! I dunno tha dude after Young Dro. Iz that another Dunk Ryders dude? This iz soundin' great (of course). I feel tha "hidden features" more than anything else in tha song. Tha beat iz on point too. This definitely gets my thumbs up! My Rating: 4.2

19. "Da One (For The Ladies)"
I still keep gettin' worried in tha beginning, lol. I hope this one doesn't decrease my ratings, although I have a feeling it will. C'mon Big Kuntry do another "unexpected surprise"! >>> Yeah definitely good message, but dunno… My Rating: N/A

20. "Da One" Feat. Rashad
Yeah I'm sorry. I easily know this ain't a 4.0 or higher. Low AL. >>> Yeah like he said, a slow jammer. I like this line "I'm tha pillow that you lay on." Good line right there. Yeah not my type of song. Too slow for me. But I think this was easily tha longest it took for a song to be under 4.0. It took 20 songs. That's watz good. I don't think this record'll be broken! I know Big Kuntry did a bunch of different styles on here, but still, this iz a mixtape. I don't expect these songs on mixtapes. I expect them on CDs. Big Kuntry did a nice job on his parts. I dunno about Rashad bein' tha singer. Trey Songz was a lot better. My Rating: 2.8

21. "Mixtape Better Than Album (Interlude)"
Lemme hear this interlude! >>> Yeah Big Kuntry, ur mixtape iz DEFINITELY better than otha peoples' albums! Look at your ratings on here! My Rating: N/A

22. "How We Rocking"
Hopefully we get back on track here. Keith Mack produced. I see "Mack" and I get a lil' increase in my AL usually. I think this gon sound good. >>> Oh no a rock intro… Sorry I don't really like this beat. Reminds me too much of that "Party Like A Rockstar" phase. I know tha rhymes are definitely crazy, but tha beat prevents it from gettin' a 4.0+ rating from me. My Rating: 3.4

23. "Gangsta Life" Feat. Governor
Governor iz tha singer on Grand Hustle right? I think I'm right. What will this one sound like? I finna get into it in a sec. I gotta just listen to tha 1st joint on tha mixtape I'm reviewin' for tonight (Jon Young & J. Cash "Motivation" mixtape). *Intermission starts* Okay good start to their mixtape, but let's see how Big Kuntry gon do wit Governor on this one. >>> I don't like this at all. I didn't expect this to be this bad. C'mon where's tha gangsta, or should I say "gangsta-trance" beat???????!??!?!!? Tha lyrics are on point (of course), but this title & beat were unnecessary. My Rating: 3.1

24. "Give It Up"
I heard tha beat intro right when tha other song ended, and it looks like it's gonna be a good one! High AL! >>> Uh no it's only 1:35. Okay nice beat, and definitely good on tha rhymes. Great hook too. Gotta give it a plus. My Rating: 4.1

25. "Drugs Changed Everything (Outro)"
Wanna hear what you gotta say for tha outro. >>> Oh they put that "Hayling" beat from tha intro in it again. Lovin' that!! They even threw tha vocals towards tha end and that nice bomb too. My Rating: N/A

Overall: End Time: 2.23.2008 @ 12:10 AM. DEFINITELY great mixtape! Puttin' it on my iPod, and even tho there were real nice ratings, I don't think there were EXTREMELY WHOPPING ratings (like 4.7-5.0). Was there a 4.6 rating? I don't even remember. I just remember there was a lot of heat mayne!! Just those "things" at tha near-end were not called for at all. I thought this was gonna be tha 1st mixtape to pull off a 4.0 or higher on every joint. At least it came close and set tha bar VERY HIGH! It holds tha current record, but Rocko holds tha current record wit DJ Scream on "Swag Season" for least songs that have under a 4.0 rating by me (which that one only had one).

Rankings (according to ratings):

18. "Da One" Feat. Rashad 2.8
17. "Gangsta Life" Feat. Governor 3.1
16. "How We Rocking" 3.4
15. "Forgot 2 Put The Album Out" 4.0
14. Haitian Fresh Feat. Big Kuntry & Rick Ross "Fast Lane" 4.0
13. "Steering Wheel" 4.1
12. "Give It Up" 4.1
11. "I'ma G" Feat. T.I. 4.2
10. "How I Do" Feat. Macboney 4.2
09. Dunk Ryders Feat. Big Kuntry, Young Jeezy, Slick Pulla & Young Dro "Fuck Da Other Side (Remix)" 4.2
08. "Sun-Glasses" Feat. Lil' 3rd 4.2
07. "Killing" Feat. Yung L.A. 4.3
06. "Da Baddest" Feat. Trey Songz 4.3
05. "Anthem" Feat. B.G. & Twista 4.3
04. "Crazy" 4.3
03. "The Mobb" 4.4
02. "Swagger" Feat. Shawty Lo 4.5
01. "Straight Thuggin'" 4.5

^ Yeah I didn't know which one to pick as my favorite for those 2 jointz that tied wit a 4.5 rating. I picked "Straight Thuggin'" 'cause of what I said, and "Swagger" was too short.
