Review #52: "Go Gettas" Mixtape

It's Frankie doin' another review. This iz a mixtape my boy Jimmy The DJ sent me. Alls it says on tha CD itself iz "Go Gettas". I don't really know anything about it (tried lookin' online), so I finna do a "blind review" for it right now. I might have to ask my boy Jimmy about it; see if he knows anything about it. Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me or have auto-tune in your vocals, I’m not buyin’ it!

01. Let's see what this gon start like… >>> Aight tha power just went out in my house about 30 seconds into tha song!! I'm now writing this down, using my iPod as my light, and I'm listenin' to tha mixtape on my CD player. Nice hook, and I'm feelin' tha rappin'! Pretty good song. Sounds like a group. That siren iz goin' on tooo much in tha song. My Rating: 3.9


02. What this next joint gon sound like… >>> Nice underground-smooth shit. Sounds like somethin' I would hear on 91.5 up here in Northeast PA (when they used to have underground Rap music in 2003 – too bad they quit at tha end of 2003). Nice hook. It's simple and good. At 2:08, "fresh Polo wit tha prada." Yeah I got a nice, fresh polo on right now (it's mainly red and white wit small black lines). My Rating: 3.7


03. >>> Tha beat iz pretty good. Again, sounds like some underground mixed wit 91.5 shit. Gotta love that I'm listening to this underground shit right now. 2nd verse has some nice rhymes! Feelin' 'em! If I had to guess what year this iz from, I'd say 2003 'cause of what it reminds me of. My Rating: 4.0


04. What could be tha 4th song…? >>> Sounds like New York music that I'd hear on Hot 97 at night during a mixshow. Got that swagger, check. Got tha lyrics? Check. I feel you on that. Just by listenin', iz this Smif-N-Wessun (as they said in tha song)? I don't know… My Rating: 3.6


½time: Good thing I charged my iPod. It's tha only thing w/ a light. Decent CD so far. Wonder what's left…


05. Startin' off tha 2nd ½… >>> Now it sounds more like Louisiana bounce music. Yeah "N.O. to tha fullest." Nice line: "take it off like your dress…" Glad to see a pretty fast song on here. My Rating: 3.9


06. >>> "New Orleans got too much talent." Co-sign! Sounds like a live performance in tha background. Like tha beat a lot and that beginning hook! He just mentioned Ciara, so this means it's after 2003. "You niggaz got fears, and I'm tha factor. I'm tha new version of hip-hop: Combo-Tha-Chapter. Feel tha swagger, you gotta feel this bastard." That WHOLE entire part iz HOT!! This song BLOWS tha other songs away! Yeah, "you can make it there; I'm talkin' 'bout tha top!" My Rating: 4.6


07. Let's see tha sequel to that HOT joint! >>> Urban Noize on tha track… Sorry, this joint iz kinda boring me… Tha beat iz aight, but it's tha best thing. I guess this iz from last year 'cause dude on tha 2nd verse said "by '08…." Nice lyrics tho. "Aimin' for this damn presidential like Lincoln." Good line! My Rating: 3.5


08. Last joint on this… >>> Feelin' tha slow intro. Yeah "forget them hoes, I gotta get more doe." Not signed I see… 3rd verse sounds like Guru. www.myspace.com/urbannoize I wrote it down so I could try and get some info tomorrow. My Rating: 4.1


Overall: End Time: 11:35 PM. Decent. Of course good for underground music on a decent level, but that was nothin' spectacular… I finna post/type this up tomorrow and shit.
