Review #841: Lil' Yella "Operation Shutdown Vol. 2: Back 2 Da Trap"

Reviewed on 3.01.2011 (Review #841)

Of course, tha full-length’s here: Lil’ Yella “Operation Shutdown Vol. 2: Back 2 Da Trap! Start Time: 11:09 PM | End Time: 11:45 PM

Quick Note: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion!! I only please myself wit my ratings!! I don’t care how lyrical you are! As long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much REALLY LOVE it as it’s considered “mindblowin’” when I hear it. Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song. Anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it.

01. “Intro”
Wit 3:32 on tha length, it must be a song? >>> LOL, Young Hits doin’ dis beat. Finally, a catchy-soundin’ “intro” track from someone, basically ‘bout tha mixtape title! You’re everything up in anything, lol! I like tha hook, too, wit dat “Operation Shutdown” title and shit! My Rating: 4.4

02. “Duffle Bag Stacks” Feat. Ray Vicks
Black Balloon’s own in tha buildin’ wit Thug Nation Entertainment/Real Music; let’s get it! >>> Tha beat sounds like we’re in Memphis, lol; definitely some hot shit to tha fullest!! Definitely a jam; good, street shit you spittin’ on tha 1st verse, Yella! You know I really enjoy shit like dis and how you rep tha hood! LOL @ how Ray Vicks sounds on dis; sounds, like, what someone would sound like if they were really young (17 – 19)! I still like tha collaboration, though; good job teamin’ up! My Rating: 4.5

03. “5-Star Street King”
Sounds good, like all your other shit. Nothin’ but dat catchy-soundin’ street shit, brought to tha table! Good rhymes, too; you know what it iz! My Current Rating: 4.4

04. “Paperchase”
Combound word? Let’s see what dis about… >>> A lil’ Poppy on tha hook; what’s up wit dis? Didn’t need ta have a jacked-soundin’ hook; skips tha rest of tha hook! Not tha best-soundin’ song fa me; way too mainstream? My Rating: 3.1

05. “Front 2 Back” Feat. Level & DJ B-Real
Surprised I didn’t see dis on tha promo disc I just reviewed; almost forgot about dis. Anyway, you know dis shit’s official, too! Anything wit Level in it definitely gets tha real-big plus from me!! Good job doin’ ya thang wit tha 1st verse but mainly, dat hook! LOL @ how Level comes through on dis; mo energy than a few otha features I heard in tha past, lol! My Current Rating: 4.4

06. “Operation Shutdown”
Almost reminds me of what tha intro sounded like, just by lookin’ at tha title; how will dis go? >>> Ooh, a slower version of what I’d expect from you, trap style! How cool were you wit Sheen~Marie? Really likin’ tha content, here; nothin’ but dem drugs, lol! Tha “president’s black…” shit was too cliché and appeared outta nowhere; really, people still talk about Obama, lol? My Rating: 4.5

07. “Don’t Be In The Club” Feat. Young Hits
A completely-different new song? >>> No; why tha altered title? No “Young Hits” beat tag this time, lol? LOL… Tha hook’s definitely great, once again!! Wit all this shit goin’ on, didn’t realize dat there was a feature on tha 3rd verse; can’t exactly ID who it iz? Hope they say their name; they’re doin’ their thang! Oh, now, they’re ID (Young Hits, lol)! My Current Rating: 4.2

08. “Live Twice”
You know what it iz wit Young Hits on tha track! Nice beat here wit you spittin’ some real tight shit, here, in tha 1st verse; gutta to tha fullest!! Soundin’ like it’s for tha Baton Rouge streetz, here, on tha 2nd verse, since you “got” buku shit to tha fullest! Your “dope money” be stackin’ high!! Glad for tha “Young Hits” and “D-So” shout outs at tha end! My Current Rating: 4.4

09. “Move It Like That”
LOL, glad this iz here! Gives a good vibe fa dis CD! A Young Hits beat; lol @ this vibe fa you. This sounds like an interestin’-soundin’ song fa you; likin’ how Young Hits does his thang on tha beat. My Current Rating: 4.2

10. “2-Step” Feat. D-So
LOL… Why do these producers have to have different sides to them? Gets annoyin’ at times… Too quiet of a song afta tha previous songs… At least tha lyrics are on a Baton Rouge level on tha 1st verse but this hook’s way too soft fa you, Yella… LOL, tha song iz soft but there’s all “traphouse” shit in tha 2nd verse? Weird-ass mix but I don’t mind what comes outta your mouth … Interestin’ feature from D-So, too… My Current Rating: 3.6

11. “Mirror”
>>> Tha quality sounds a lil’ decreased in tha beginning; jacked? Sounds good, trap style. Tha vocalizin’ sounds cliché; not sure how much I gon buy dis… SMH @ tha start to tha 1st verse? LOL, I do radio play for free! You don’t need thousands of dollars, illegally! As for tha song, itself, this iz good wit what you got. My Rating: 4.1

12. “Blow’em Down” Feat. Jon Doe & Young Hits
Yay! Tha Jon Doe version again! Too bad they left tha features out on tha back cover, smh; what’s up wit dat? I rather hear Doe than someone like Boosie dat appears 2347823089432408x on CDs! I don’t think I noticed his voice back then, though. Tight shit here and I’m glad it’s here! Didn’t realize Young Hits rapped, lol? Also, made tha track, too… Tha hook sounds tight; luv tha vibe here!!! Tha title sounds good, too; interestin’ shit here!! Here’s tha 1st verse; good job collaboratin’!! I look forward ta hearin’ tha rest of tha song!! Sounds like someone different on tha 2nd verse here (Hits?); good shit to tha fullest!! You’re on tha 3rd verse, Yella, keepin’ it gutta!! You know how dem 225 white boyz be!! Nice, quick lil’ Jigg City hood verse!! My Current Rating: 4.4

½time: A 4.2-rated full-length CD, currently; you know what it iz!

13. “Baddest Body” Feat. City Boy & Lil’ Boonie
Hate ta say dis but anotha error on tha back cover: a “d” iz missin’ from tha “baddest” title, smh. ROFL, anotha Young Hits beat!! Interestin’ collab, here, and tha hook’s real catchy; likin’ this energetic side when it comes ta achievin’ tha “baddest body.” Here’s tha 1st verse from you and you’ll “kick it like a Soccer game,” lol! ROFL @ tha 2nd verse! I luv when I hear “titties” in raps!! I thought it was Young Slimm dat was listed as tha 2nd verse? Tha previous time I saw dis, Lil’ Boonie wasn’t listed, but he’s really in this song? Anyway, dude did his thang fa dis shit right chea!! Here’s tha 3rd verse and Boonie’s all about his “Buffy;” everyone’s sayin’ dat name all of a sudden… LOL @ all tha “sippin’ on Daiquiris” shit! My Current Rating: 4.4

14. “Rollin’ Wit Da Bass Up (Remix)” Feat. Sam I Am & Max Minelli
And tha “with” should be “wit”… Still sounds great fa dis Z-Man-produced joint and this iz great dat Max Minelli joined tha team here!! Sounds betta, this time, and you’re soundin’ good on tha 1st verse! Tha 2nd verse iz dat crazy-ass Sam I Am, lol! He really showin’ his ass off in tha streetz, here; definitely sounds betta on his verse, too, fa some reason!! Max’s on tha 3rd verse and he’s got tha hood on lock when it comes ta what satisfies you, ya dig? Definitely good ta hear him join dis track! My Current Rating: 4.6

15. “Pillhead Shit” Feat. Big Scoob, Thug Addict & Young Ready
Uh oh, 5:44 on tha length!! This iz a mega collaboration, givin’ me tha same anticipation as when I heard dat Tha Camp “Break It Off!”!!! >>> Nice intro from Big Scoob, here! Ooh, it’s Camp on tha beat, this time, bringin’ dat hot shit like “Dope Money”! Tha hook’s definitely nice wit dis beat and tha anticipation I have fa dis!! Ooh @ :53 in tha beat; feelin’ those sounds!!! Big Scoob sounds good fa a comeback and all dat on tha 2nd verse… I know tha name Thug Addict; prolly only heard him once or twice. Now, lemme see what he ‘bout on dis shit… Sounds betta, here; prolly tha highlight of dis song behind tha beat! ROFL, it got more wild wit Ready on tha 4th verse, lol!! My Rating: 4.8

16. “Like Me” Feat. Delwin The Krazyman
Just found out dat Jon Doe produced dis. Matta fact, I made sure I paid attention to tha beat tag and I heard tha “Doe” part in tha beginning! Tha beat sounds real, real good but I dunno about startin’ off wit all tha Nu$$ie shit… Tha hook’s definitely hotness, here; catchy-ass Yella!! Speakin’ of Yella, here you are on tha 1st verse, doin’ ya thang!! Good, consistent job, holdin’ thangz down on tha 1st verse and now, tha 2nd verse sounds like it’s strictly for tha Jigg City streetz! Fuck “tha DJs dat won’t play (your) song;” good thing fa me wit gettin’ peeps on tha radio, instantly! For Delwin on tha 3rd verse, when I hear tha verse itself start off wit a Nu$$ie quote, I feel like skippin’ it… SMH, I thought tha verse was gonna end wit, “Nu$$ie!!!,” but it ended wit “Delwin” (period, not three exclamation points, smh). My Current Rating: 4.6

17. “Swaggered Out (Remix)” Feat. Supa
No longer of Down Bad so I’m takin’ dat out tha ID—unless this was ’09 or early in 2010? Anyway, interestin’ ta hear a remix here, ya dig?! Tha hook and beat’s really on point, still, and tha 1st verse’s definitely consistent wit you on it, showin’ off, lol! Supa’s on tha 2nd verse, soundin’ just-as-great as tha original! My Current Rating: 4.6

18. “Wickit” Feat. Pitt & Yung Slimm
LOL @ tha “wicked” “Wickit” title and this tight feature!! Looks like I gon enjoy dis!! >>> Definitely good shit here! When you have Pitt on tha feature, it goes down!! Tha people dat roll wit Young Ready are definitely crazy when they get on any joint!!! Definitely a “225”-repped joint to tha fullest!! You’re on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through wit some mo of dat hot shit fa tha hood!! Here’s Slimm on tha 3rd verse (“Young” or “Yung”?); feelin’ tha gangsta shit to tha fullest!! My Rating: 4.7

19. “Renegade (John Revish)”
Iz “John Revish” a person on tha feature or a part of tha title? >>> Must be part of tha title ‘cause I hear you doin’ ya thang on this catchy song. I’m feelin’ how you comin’ through ta start tha verses off; good job wit tha rhymes! Sounds like you’re givin’ it your all on tha mic; likin’ how you deliverin’ shit, here! My Rating: 4.2

20. “G-6 (3Mix)” (Far East Movement Feat. Lil’ Yella & Dev)
>>> LOL, if you would’ve known betta, you would include Dev on tha feature (hook/sample). The Cataracs are out ‘cause you’re where they were. Not too bad; I thought this was more of a surprise but it sounds betta when you have tha Baton Rouge-soundin’ shit. My Rating: 4.0

21. “Monsta”
>>> This iz a smh fa me; Kanye ain’t Dance or Louisiana so no need fa me ta have interest. Your rappin’, surprisingly, sounds betta on dis than tha “G-6”, but tha beat/outcome wasn’t a surprise like “G-6”. ROFL @ tha remainin’ 25 - 18 seconds! My Rating: 3.8

22. “Lonely”
>>> SMDH…; why are we havin’ gay shit like dis? Hook’s an automatic flunk. There’s no interest in dis fa me; why iz this so long? My Rating: 1.0

23. “Feels Good 2 Be A Gangsta” Feat. Tragic & J-Rev
Original track since there’s features? >>> Doesn’t sound like it wit tha beat style but I guess it iz… Tha rappin’ ain’t too bad but when this ain’t 100% original-soundin’, my interest iz a lil’ on tha low side. Tha 2nd verse aight/good; why tha money obsession, lol? As well as includin’ shit ‘bout tha “hoes” in a debut verse, lol? Tha 2nd ½ of tha 2nd verse iz doin’ tha same thing, too… My Rating: 3.9

24. “Chains” Feat. Lil’ Boosie
ROFL, again! Bonus track here, lol. Produced by Tinman, doin’ his thang on tha only beat I know him off of, lol! Good shit wit you representin’ wit all your clever “chains,” here, and representin’ all tha way wit your catchy style! From tha hook to tha 1st verse, it’s all catchiness at its finest!! Boosie sounds good on tha 2nd verse wit how he’s showin’ you luv, to tha fullest. He sounds kinda calm on tha verse, though; less energetic, lol. Classic “Nu$ie Alive”-type music for me so I’m glad it’s a part of tha family here! My Current Rating: 4.7

Overall: Seein’ tha back cover wit tha producers listed and I didn’t notice where X-Fyle was on this CD; who’s M16, by tha way? Nice job wit this CD, minus those jacked songs toward tha end! Keep up tha great work and now, hopefully, get outta jail!
