Review #881: Da U Boys & The Show "Eastside Uptown"

Reviewed on 3.23.2011 (Review #881)

Review #3 fa today iz Da U Boys & The Show, an East Gang Music Group, Inc. and Rue Rois collaboration, wit Eastside Uptown! Start Time: 11:12 AM | End Time: 11:35 AM

Quick Note: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion!! I only please myself wit my ratings!! I don’t care how lyrical you are! As long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much REALLY LOVE it as it’s considered “mindblowin’” when I hear it. Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song. Anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it.

01. Intro (Geeby Whop The Wire)
What’s this? >>> LOL @ tha intro and everyone talkin’; people are funny, ta me, fa easily bein’ able ta talk so much at one time. I was wonderin’, 25 seconds of silence? Then, it came back at :15 left. Then, it stopped outta nowhere, lol? My Rating: N/A

02. “Eastside Uptown”
>>> I’m likin’ how dis sounds fa a beginning; good collaboration for a mixtape collab! Tha hook sounds real nice between tha both of y’all wit tha “East Gang; Uptown” shit! Thumbs up fa Da U doin’ tha damn thang in tha beginning and fa Show fa takin’ ova tha 2nd ½ of tha song. My Rating: 4.3

03. “Check My Resume”
A longer song; how will y’all do? >>> Tha hook sounds catchy wit tha mysterious voice singin’ on tha hook; good song… Good rappin’, too, from Da U Boys; let’s see what Show has ta offer… He sounds a lil’ betta fa me. Dat beat tag dat’s repeatin’ sounds almost like Stevie Drumma’s, but it ain’t him. Thumbs up fa Show and his consistent rhymes! My Rating: 4.0

04. “I’m Ill” Feat. Strait Jigg
>>> Sounds familiar but then again, dat title’s, basically, tha Lil’ Wayne sample, which I hear/see a lot. Good thing it starts off wit Show; Show gives me a lil’ more anticipation, off top. Really feelin’ his consistent, kick-ass rhymes! For some reason, afta him, it’s soundin’ a lil’ boring fa me; I guess it’s dis beat? Prolly could’ve been a lil’ betta. Tha hook ain’t just tha Lil’ Wayne sample; sounds like some East Coast mixin’ in tha hook, too. Ooh, tha 2nd verse has a much betta sound than tha 2nd ½ of tha 1st verse; good rhymes/voice fa dis street shit. Tha 3rd verse sounds good wit tha “gangsta” shit when it comes ta how people try ta act like ‘em. Speakin’ of which, someone I talked to said, “I’m a gangsta; I’m outside all tha time,” and I was like, “WTF?” Like, c’mon. My Rating: 4.2

05. “N.O. Anthem” Feat. Strait Jigg
>>> Tha intro sounds like I gon look forward ta hear dis! Afta 31 seconds, tha hook slammed onto tha track, kickin’ major ass!!!!! This should sound tight on my radio show; crazy-ass “ward” representations in tha hook!! Tha rhymes in tha 1st verse are soundin’ pretty catchy; tha 2nd ½ of tha 1st verse are soundin’ 504ish, doin’ tha damn thang, here! Tha 2nd verse sounds good wit tha rhymes, too. Ooh, here comes Show on tha 2nd ½ of tha 2nd verse, comin’ through wit consistent rhymes and consistent street shit; thumbs up fa tha deliverin’!! My Rating: 4.7

½time: A 4.3-rated CD, thanx ta dat “N.O. Anthem”!! Keep up tha great work, guys!!

06. Interlude
>>> Good thing fa an “interlude”; y’all sound good wit tha talkin’. LOL, Show sounded like he blended in wit err-one’s voices; didn’t recognize him, at first, for a few seconds, lol. My Rating: N/A

07. “I Ain’t Shit” (The Show)
A solo from Show? Let’s hear dis! >>> Sounds familiar? Can’t find it in my iTunes but this sounds hot wit tha beat and tha consistent rhymes; a betta-soundin’ song fa a solo song from Show. My Rating: 4.3

08. “Warm It Up”
>>> Beat’s jacked? Didn’t expect dat; sounds like we’re in tha ‘80s/’90s, here. Anyway, tha rhymes sound good and consistent. Thumbs up ta tha good rappin’, U Boys! Show comin’ through wit even betta shit, as always! Tha fastness in tha beat helps; gotta luv all these rhymes!! My Rating: 4.2

09. “Wood Grain”
Looks like it gon be a jacked song? Let’s see… >>> Actually, no, lol, Logan On Tha Beat on tha beat, here. Tha hook’s cool wit tha Southern sample; you know what it iz wit dis… Good vibes from Da U Boys in tha beginning of tha rappin’, here; feelin’ tha “rollin’ down tha windows” part, although I’m jealous. It snowed a few inches, here, in Northeast PA, but was not-bad out, yesterday. :( Let’s see what Show has ta offer, here… Yea, thumbs down ta dat “oil spill.” :td Pretty consistent, although tha previous songs from Show were betta, surprisingly, and this iz more my style, lol. Thumbs up ta tha rest of dis, too, keepin’ tha vibe goin’. My Rating: 4.1

10. “Pick It Back Up” (Da U Boys)
Solo song from Da U Boys? Hope it’s catchy without Show… >>> I like dis; nice production, too. LOL, iz dis CD gonna be worth five stars from me, since all tha songs have 4.0+ ratings? Dat would be pretty shocking for an N.O. CD! Again, just like tha final verse of tha last song, this has good rhymes fa tha ladies, keepin’ tha vibe up. Tha 2nd verse keeps tha 1st verse’s content goin’, only wit a catchier, Juvie style! Tha 3rd verse iz good, too, wit tha way tha beat stays consistent. My Rating: 4.2

11. “Human Nature”
>>> Damn, kinda a fuck-up for tha ending wit this MJ-type shit. At least Show’s doin’ a nice job on tha 1st verse wit tha consistency, but I won’t let MJ let somethin’ have five stars from me, sorry. Damn, even tha sample’s in tha hook, too? I should just forget about dis and pretend it’s not here. Da U Boys are only aight fa me, though; a lil’ more mainstream? My Rating: 2.6

Overall: Real nice job, even though #11 got ta me. Still, prolly one of tha more-consistent, betta-soundin’ New Orleans CDs I’ve heard in tha longest time!
