Review #713: Marcel P. Black "The Jigga City Blues EP"

Reviewed on 12.20.2010 (Review #713)

My 5th review for today iz Marcel P. Black “The Jigga City Blues EP; here we go… Start Time: 2:56 PM | End Time: 3:12 PM

Quick Note: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion!! I only please myself wit my ratings!! I don’t care how lyrical you are! As long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much REALLY LOVE it as it’s considered “mindblowin’” when I hear it. Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song. Anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it.

01. “Jigga City Blues”
Even though this izn’t tha music dat I’m really crazy about, I was nice enough ta play it on my radio show, add it to my personal playlist, and put it on my 4th mixtape compilation out tomorrow on DatPiff; that’s a plus! I really like how you deliver shit on dis vs. tha older shit I just heard from you. It seems dat you enhanced your voice on dis Rap shit. Also, shout out ta Joe On The Track for doin’ tha beat, too… I like dat there’s a lady sampled on tha hook; it makes tha song sound more interestin’ (in an entertainin’ way). That shit about “tha charts”: everyone wishes they were on tha charts. Tha closest will be on my radio show; they won’t get any further!! LOL @ 2:52: tha cut off sample (“we…”); it cool. Good shit wit tha lyrics (of course) but dat flow iz, just, REAL nice!! My Current Rating: 4.4

02. “22580”
What does tha “80” represent in tha title? Iz it ‘cause tha decade you were born in? >>> Production sounds betta here than on tha last EP; I can accept this. I’m likin’ how you rappin’ dis shit right chea; you got me bobbin’ my head. GR8 flow, GR8 lyrics, and good job creatin’ a track like dis! Tha 2nd verse’s REAL nice wit dat attitude, too!! What I forgot ta add to tha last review: I know I said dat you gon like my CD. But, tha reason why you’d like my CD iz ‘cause I know you liked my “Sleepless Nights”. So, you should enjoy tha creativity and shit I’ve went through. LOL, I should’ve asked you ta help me wit my “History paper,” lol. I was pitchin’ C’s but it’s over now; hope I did good… My Rating: 4.3

03. “Live My Life”
>>> Yea, “shout out ta Real Profit;” thumbs up ta mentionin’ dat. Wit dat bein’ said, I assume Joe produced dis one, too? Tha beat’s pretty good and tha hook’s nice; you still doin’ tha damn thang wit dis flow!! REAL nice in tha 1st verse; keep spittin’ tha rhymes out like a machine!! Keepin’ this shit goin’ wit tha 2nd verse, too; thumbs up!! Tryna fit so many words in a line reminds me of myself; that’s always what I wind up doin’ while spittin’/writin’ lyrics. Tha 3rd verse real good, too; keep it up! My Rating: 4.3

½time: You definitely have improved here as well as havin’ better production; good shit! So far, this EP’s at a 4.3 CD rating.

04. “Hardbody”
Ooh, you threw this on here, too! Good way ta keep tha ratings up! As said before: Tha beat’s pretty good and tha content’s definitely on ‘n’ poppin’. Nice job wit tha 1st verse…; tha hook sounds pretty gutta, too (as far as what you spittin’ ‘bout). Tha 2nd verse’s on dat real shit wit a GR8 flow/voice from you and a GR8 beat. Even down ta tha 3rd verse; you know what it iz! My Current Rating: 4.4

05. “Trouble Man ‘08”
As said before, too: Tha beat iz on a decent/good level again but I like dat it has a higher quality. I’m not too big about how you started tha song/1st verse off; I have funny stereotypes toward certain things ‘cause I was picked on my whole life. Like, hearin’, “dear…,” or “heavenly…,” it just seems odd to me from a rapper/black person. That’s just an example; I have more if you wanna know ‘em. I like how tha 2nd hook sounds wit tha echoin’, though; that was a good added effect. Okay, tha 3rd verse’s kinda gettin’ to me although you have a good flow/voice/attitude. LOL @ all tha balancin’ elements… My Current Rating: 3.0

06. “By Any Means” Feat. D. Rose
I was wondering why this looked familiar… I had played this on my radio show on tha Jimmy The DJ/Gangsta Gumbo Edition (oh yeah). Lemme review it and see what it really like. >>> Oh, okay; sounds good. Tha beat’s good once again (like a “Jigga City Blues” feel). Tha hook sounds good and flows good wit tha content. I like dat 90’s sample in tha background (“la… la… la…”) and you keepin’ it goin’ on tha 1st verse! D. Rose spittin’ some shit in tha 2nd verse, keepin’ tha real shit goin’ on here; that’s a plus (neva a minus)! I like how you start off tha 3rd verse; nothin’ but your all iz what it takes! Thumbs up fa keepin’ dis consistent! My Rating: 4.2

Overall: NICE job here!! You surpassed tha 4.0 mark on tha CD rating!! That’s quite rare for a lyrical CD/EP! Nice job, Mr. P! Keep up tha GR8 work!!

Rankings:

06. “Trouble Man ‘08” 3.0
05. “By Any Means” Feat. D. Rose 4.2

I think I like both “Jigga City Blues” and “Hardbody” nearly tha same. It’s quite hard ta determine tha both but I went wit “Jigga City Blues” ‘cause of its success wit me.
