Review #769: Pounds & Tic "Top Shottas"

Reviewed on 12.27.2010 (Review #769)

My 5th review today’s givin’ my blog a special look: This iz tha 100th thing I did in this month; THAT’S HUGE!!!!! Shout out ta Pounds & Tic wit their Top Shottas CD, givin’ me my 100th blog post!! Start Time: 1:42 PM | End Time: 2:23 PM

Quick Note: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion!! I only please myself wit my ratings!! I don’t care how lyrical you are! As long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much REALLY LOVE it as it’s considered “mindblowin’” when I hear it. Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song. Anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it.

01. Intro
Doin’ tha damn thang to tha fullest!! >>> Sounded like a fade-in intro? Interestin’, Jamaican style. Where do y’all get your ideas on tha intros, outros, and skits from, lol? My Rating: N/A

02. “So Fresh”
Tha hook’s cool; somethin’ simple ta like wit a 225 perspective. Pounds comin’ through wit dat greatness in tha 1st verse, though; dumb shit! Tic sounds pretty focused throughout tha 2nd verse, keepin’ tha rhymes consistent! “Purple—purple kush? Shid, I like dat!” :tu My Current Rating: 4.0

03. “Quit Na” Feat. Supa (Macked Out)
Tha full name of Supa’s name on tha back cover, lol. This should be interestin’, especially wit tha title startin’ wit a “Q”, lol! >>> Yea, definite plus here!! Pounds doin’ a REAL, REAL GR8 job on tha hook!! Talk about REAL HOT, CATCHY MUSIC!!!!! :tu REALLY enjoyin’ how he comes through on tha mic to tha fullest!! I’d give Pounds’s 1st verse on here an A+; tha shit you DEFINITELY can luv, Southern style!! LOL, *imitates voice* SUUUP!!! He’s on tha 2nd verse and he just tagged me in a catchy song’s video just now on Facebook; good lookin’! It’s always GR8 ta have Supa on tha feature; he adds dat GR8, catchy character to tha track at all times!! Here comes Tic on tha 3rd verse, tryin’ not ta “quit” wit tha shit he got goin’ on; sounds good fa a verse. My Rating: 4.4

04. “We Got’em Hollin’”
Keepin’ thangz movin’… >>> GOTTA keep tha production movin’; dumb shit!! Definitely sounds real hot and fresh here! Tha hook’s pretty gutta wit Pounds’s gutta-ass! :tu I really like tha “let me get a box” part when it comes ta “smokin’” dat good, good! Pounds feelin’ HELLA good at ALL times!!! Real catchy shit here!! This iz why Baton Rouge lives in my heart, ya dig?!? It felt like tha vibe switched up once Tic hopped onta tha 2nd verse, lol; good shit here… Feelin’ these street rhymes to tha fullest; can’t help but ta immediately luv dis shit! My Rating: 4.3

05. “Retarded” Feat. Sophisticated
Because of reviewin’ Pounds’s “Necessary Hustlin’” CD, I know dat tha feature iz Sophisticated, which iz not listed on tha back cover. As said before: I’m likin’ dis shit; nice and smooth lil’ beat wit a crunk-soundin’ hook! Tha 1st verse’s nice; you know how you bringin’ dis quality music ta my ears, Pounds!! Tha 2nd verse sounds pretty good; Tic doin’ tha damn thang, showin’ his ass off, lol! Tha 3rd verse from Sophisticated’s good, too; consistent shit! My Current Rating: 4.3

06. “Momma Always Told Me”
>>> Tha beat sounds pretty good… Ooh, sounds like an anthem despite tha title, lol! Tha 1st verse’s soundin’ good; good shit, Tic! Gutta-soundin’ hook, lol! Pounds comin’ through wit dat GUTTA-ASS shit on tha 2nd verse!! Sometimes, if you deliver tha song correctly, as well as havin’ tha HOT production, I can luv tha song, regardless what it’s about! My Rating: 4.2

07. “Thinkin’ Of You”
I knew I realized tha title… A beat like this I don’t really go for. I do like that it’s sped up a lil’ but these sample-soundin’ beats are not me at all. I really like dat you’re a BEAST on tha vocals and mic here, Pounds!! That’s tha plus and it makes tha rhymes in tha verses real nice! Tha hook? Ehh… nothin’ I’d comment on. Glad your voice can keep tha interest in a song alive!! My Current Rating: 3.9

08. Every Tuesday (Skit)
Tell me dis has ta do wit Shutdown “Tuesdays” from tha Fall, lol! >>> Still sounds like a continuation from tha intro, lol. This may sound different but I have my perspective on “Shutdown Tuesdays” (now Thursdays), lol! My Rating: N/A

½time: GR8 job, guys!! Y’all REALLY consistent wit it, ESPECIALLY my big dawg Pounds!! Y’all at 4.2 for tha CD rating right now!

09. “Movin’ Birds”
You know what it iz! >>> Sounds good; GR8 shit right here, ya dig? Tha hook’s official and Tic’s holdin’ down tha 1st verse as well; nice and consistent! Shit yea, dat boy Pounds doin’ a REAL GR8 job!!! Just tha start of his lip movin’—gettin’ ready ta spit somethin’—SETS thangz off!!! DEFINITELY thumbs up ta him doin’ tha damn thang on tha 2nd verse!! My Rating: 4.3

10. “In My Days” Feat. Percy Campbell
Ooh, Percy Campbell on tha feature? Have I heard dis before? Looks anticipatin’… >>> Sounds good as far as tha production; definitely a plus here… Nice job from tha both of y’all spittin’ CRAZY shit on tha hook! Wow, Pounds goin’ OFF here, lol!!! Tha 1st verse’s DEFINITELY on lock!! Nothin’ but CONSISTENTNESS!!! Tha 2nd verse from Tic sounds good; feelin’ tha content here, ya dig? All tha shit goin’ on here iz a plus; can’t escape tha content, tha talent, or all y’all!! LOL, he comes tha CRAZY Percy Campbell on tha 3rd verse; REALLY likin’ how he emerged onto tha verse!! Gotta luv what he got goin’ on wit his catchiness!! It’s like, y’all ALL get an A+ for catchiness, ya dig? My Rating: 4.4

11. “Be With You” Feat. Carrie A & Y-Kean
Looks like it finna be slow. But, wit crazy-ass Pounds, it should have some tightness! >>> Yea, a lil’ slow and it starts off wit Tic; I guess I gotta wait fa tha catchiness… Tha hook ain’t too bad; I think it flows pretty good wit dis beat. Ooh, Pounds on tha 2nd verse: comin’ through wit a lotta shit ta say wit dat voice! Good job wit tha 3rd verse! Here comes Y-Kean on tha 3rd verse, doin’ a not-so-bad job rappin’… My Rating: 3.7

12. What (Skit)
LOL… >>> Very short but good; where’d tha attitude come from, lol? My Rating: N/A

13. “You Can Tell’em” Feat. []
LOL, what do we got here? >>> Not bad on tha start; sounds like it could grow. Tha hook’s pretty good and Tic’s doin’ a nice job on tha 1st verse, spittin’ his opinion on what he has ta say. Pounds just always be goin’ off, lol!! He too crazy wit it!! No one can stop him, lol!! Keepin’ it goin’, he’s on tha 2nd verse, too!! LOL, how much can you spit, lol?!? It’s sooooooooo nuts!!! Crazy-ass Pounds!!! Talk about an attitude here!!! This iz definitely crazy!!! Here’s tha 3rd verse: [] on tha feature! That’s a 1st fa me and he comin’ through wit dat tightness! No wonder why [] commented on tha review I did fa y’all; y’all know each other! Glad he spittin’ dat real shit to tha fullest, makin’ dis joint sound real nice!! Just like tha BluBlack feature on tha “Necessary Hustlin’” CD, this was tha surprise feature on this CD! My Rating: 4.6

14. “So Right” Feat. Adlib
Oh no, an Adlib feature; let’s not kill tha vibe! >>> LOL, what a quiet start wit tha production tag from Lil’ Ken; good shit! This beat’s a lil’ too slow but lemme hear what y’all got ta say… Somewhat-good from Tic on tha 1st verse; good in visions of tha content. Tha hook’s pretty good from Adlib just ‘cause of tha “bubblebath”, lol. Basically, I like these bathroom terms, lol. LOL, iz dat you, Pounds, talkin’ before tha 2nd verse, lol? Shit yea, here you are on tha 2nd verse! LOL, this may be real smooth for a beat but you still go off, Pounds, lol!! Real nice; great comeback from my not-so-anticipated start! My Rating: 4.1

15. “So Much Drama”
True, ya dig? >>> Wow, what a gangsta start here!!! Really feelin’ tha production and tha hook’s DEFINITELY on point! Almost sounds familiar… Tha 1st verse from Tic’s definitely on point!! This could be his best, based off tha shit he spittin’! Nice job wit dis consistent content! “Hit tha muthafuckin’ weed;” Tic reppin’ hard!!! :tu Whoo!!! Uh oh, what does Pounds have ta offer? He offerin’ real nice shit fa tha streets!!! Just-as-equal for tha quality that Tic offered; thumbs up!! My Rating: 4.4

16. “I Had A Vision”
Gonna get right into it. >>> Sounds good as far as tha production. You know Pounds had ta represent in tha beginning! I like how tha both of y’all comin’ through on tha hook; definitely a plus! Pounds, aren’t you glad dat I’m listenin’, ya feel me? Here’s Tic on tha 1st verse, doin’ a pretty-good job… Yea, y’all definitely “[rappin’ y’all asses] off” to tha fullest!! And speakin’ of, here’s Pounds on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through wit dat pure voice!!! Real-good job right there, Pounds!! Tic finishin’ dis off wit tha 3rd verse, spittin’ some mo hot shit. Pounds comin’ through wit some mo shit, too; dumb shit!! My Rating: 4.3

17. Outro
Uh oh, let’s see what gon happen now… >>> Spooky, lol! Interestin’… My Rating: N/A

Overall: Even though I liked “Necessary Hustlin’” a lil’ betta, this definitely was a must-hear!! I’m real glad y’all teamed up fa a CD, ya dig? Good job! Keep up tha great work fa tha future!!! Gotta luv my boy []; glad he made it on here!!!
