Review #720: Lil' Junior "Neighborhood Superstar"

Reviewed on 12.21.2010 (Review #720)

Keepin’ tha reviewz up, I first wanna say, “R.I.P. Magnolia Shorty!” How sad to die in tha mist of all tha shit I’m doin’, as well as not gettin’ ta see 2011! I gon hold it down fa you and err-body else I support in Louisiana!! I got Lil’ Junior “Neighborhood Superstar up next; looks like a tight CD!!! Start Time: 8:30 AM | End Time: 9:51 AM

Quick Note: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion!! I only please myself wit my ratings!! I don’t care how lyrical you are! As long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much REALLY LOVE it as it’s considered “mindblowin’” when I hear it. Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song. Anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it.

01. “Neighborhood Superstar (Intro)”
Must be an intro track. You confused me at first when you put “J. Guss” on tha back cover; that made me think J Buc produced it. But, I’m sure it’s Guss, lol (since his first name iz Jeremy). I definitely am lookin’ forward to your CD; let’s get it!!! >>> Good shit here; catchy beat and you holdin’ down tha hook! Good, street, survivin’-type shit right chea. Nice and smooth fa a jam, especially an intro track! “If you owe me money, don’t make me have ta find you”; good line! What I do wit people dat previously “[owed] me money” in tha past? I just say, “once I start my Master’s January 10, 2011, I will NEVER talk to you again!” SMH @ those few fuckers in tha past! Now, it’s money first, then favor! My Rating: 4.3

02. “Let’s Get It Started” Feat. Locco
Ooh, a Mod Productions beat wit Locco on tha feature? I feel like dis gon be good! >>> Yup, from tha start, it sounds hot! Good shit from Locco on tha hook, holdin’ it down!! You’re soundin’ betta on tha 1st verse here wit how you’re comin’ through wit tha energy!! Ooh, tha hook sounds MUCH BETTA tha 2nd time I’m hearin’ it; good-ass shit!!! Tha 2nd verse hella tight, too; dumb shit!! My Rating: 4.6

03. “Problem Child” Feat. Max Minelli
And anotha “superstar” on tha production (EQ); shit yea!! Let’s get it (wit Max on tha feature, too)!! >>> Still luvin’ tha production and err-thang comin’ through outta dis CD! Oh damn, EQ does tha “do-do-do-do-do” in tha beat? I thought that was J Hook. Max sounds GR8 (of course) on tha 1st verse, doin’ tha damn thang consistently! It sounds like you got dat tight shit comin’ outta tha 2nd verse; good shit, too… Tha 3rd verse makes me feel dat there could be a bunch of these songs dat could air on my radio show; GR8 shit here!! Just tha quality itself in tha beat iz really definin’ to tha elements I luv in Rap music!! My Rating: 4.4

04. “Staring In My Rearview” Feat. Lil’ Reco
I like new artists on tha features; this should be anticipatin’ wit Guss on tha beat!! >>> Anotha REALLY HOT, 225-type production for tha beat! LOL, tha “I’m straight wit tracks, cousin” part in Guss’s tag was cut off; random, lol. Tha hook’s real nice, on a real level! I like dis combination of real content mixed wit a real tight beat! Tha hook iz definitely real about tha “friend” part; what are they? Really? I’m glad I evolved into a business person! Keepin’ it goin’, this Lil’ Reco dude’s on tha 2nd verse, wit some street shit ta offer! Definitely feelin’ what he bringin’ to tha table; good shit! Tha “…pounds of weed in a grocery bag” part’s DEFINITELY some gutta-ass type of shit; gotta luv hearin’ ‘bout it!!! You doin’ a nice job on tha 3rd verse, too; DEFINITELY some HOT shit here!!! My Rating: 4.5

05. “Gutta Bitch” Feat. Foxx
EQ on tha beat once again! For some reason, this one looks familiar. Then again, I think I only know you off of, like, one random feature… >>> This sounds betta than tha “Make It Rain” song (which I reviewed first due to tha fucked up DatPiff tracklisting). Nice job on tha hook and you goin’ off on dis shit; good-ass shit!! Very consistent wit how you comin’ through wit all these jointz! Foxx comin’ through wit tha consistent tightness wit every rhyme! I feel like he’s no longer famous if everyone in tha undaground’s able ta get him on their songs. Tha 3rd verse iz real nice, too. You definitely keepin’ tha rhymes goin’!! My Rating: 4.3

06. “Make It Rain” Feat. Reno
[Dujuan beat. Incorrect order on DatPiff, so no preview] >>> Sounds like anotha anthematic beat! Usually, I deny these kinda lyrics in tha hook but it’s tight when it comes ta Baton Rouge and tha 225 on tha mix! Good shit on tha 1st verse from you, holdin’ this anthem down! Reno’s on tha feature? Oh, this iz a completely different song, lol. Sounds pretty nice ta hear him representin’ fa you; good-ass shit! My Rating: 4.2

07. “Know It’s A Name For It” Feat. Kevin Gates
I think Kevin Gates says, “no,” not, “know,” lol. Anyway, should be good wit EQ on tha beat!! >>> Funny how it starts wit Gates and tha jammin’ sounds here from tha beat. I think “know” can be accepted ‘cause you could “know” that “there’s a name for it but … don’t know what ta call it.” You’re comin’ through wit some funny shit on tha 2nd verse, keepin’ it consistent at all times! Tha 3rd verse comin’ out good, too. LOL @ “havin’ [just] Kevin Gates and Max Minelli” makes you ball outta control; iz there no human dignity when referrin’ to tha BR rappers? I mean, I’m crazy about ones dat have barely any buzz; they mean more ta me! My Rating: 4.4

08. “Stunted Out” Feat. Lil’ Cali
Mr. Guss on tha beat again, lol. I’m really feelin’ dat there’s a feature on every song; it goes ta show you dat you got family! >>> Wow, tha beat sounds darker this time! Definitely likin’ what’s about ta be presented to tha table! I heard Guss’s tag again. Too bad it sounds like tha “I’m straight wit tracks, cousin” part sounds screwed but with a volume decrease. Tha hook sounds good; always keepin’ dis shit catchy! Tha 1st verse iz pretty good; you got tha rhymes on lock! Lots of interestin’ shit you sayin’ right chea, ya dig? Cali doin’ tha damn thang on tha 2nd verse; very consistent from him, too! LOL @ him and tryna “be a mouse;” dumb shit! Tha 3rd verse iz pretty nice, too. You’re comin’ through wit mo shit ta offer, lol. My Rating: 4.3

09. “You Ain’t Gotta Holla”
NO FEATURE, lol?!? Iz there gonna be any pressure on you, especially wit 4:18? Maybe Guss’ll help you on dis beat! >>> YES!! Tha “cousin” part in tha beat tag played (mainly ‘cause there was nothin’ in tha background), lol! How’d you get cool wit Guss/get ta know him/get ta get so many beats? Tha track sounds pretty smooth here; I’m diggin’ it. Tha hook sounds good; you holdin’ it down by yourself, lol. Tha 1st verse iz pretty smooth, too. An anti-holla song fa tha females here; I can see where you’re goin’. I dunno how people put themselves in situations where people’ll still hit you up. Nearly every person I know dat has had a gurlfriend has had dis happen to them. Luckily for me, it has not! I hate when certain rappers, especially when I find out dat they’re fake and I don’t wanna deal wit them anymore, continue ta hit me up. It’s like, I just found out about you; it’s over! Why would I wanna deal wit you if you not real? Anyway, good throughout tha rest of tha song, too. My Rating: 4.0

½time: GR8 CD right here!!! Luvin’ all tha features and tha production’s FIRE!!! You’re also comin’ through REAL NICE on each song, ya dig? All this resulted in a 4.3 CD rating so far; keep it up!!

10. “Tend To Ya Own” Feat. Down Bad
Not that I know what this title means but it looks really anticipatin’ wit tha features and Cage on tha beat, too!! >>> LOL, interestin’ hook; catchy and it’s about someone’s “own bidness,” lol. LOL, mo Ca—oh, Jack Da Rippa, lol, on tha 1st verse! Good shit; very catchy and addictive! You’re on tha 2nd verse, spittin’ some good shit fa err-body in tha 225! It’s all about tha real vs. tha fake! Let’s hear what Max Minelli got ta say on tha 3rd verse! LOL, it’s Cage? Did you make an error by puttin’ Max Minelli on tha feature on tha back cover, lol? Cage knows how ta keep it creative wit his character and make a daily routine turn into a conversation inside a song! My Rating: 4.4

11. “Mission For Billions”
Oh no, a money song, lol. But, Guss on tha beat so you know dis gon be hot! >>> Anotha REAL NICE-produced beat from him!! Even tha “cousin” part played in his tag; good shit! This sounds betta than that “You Ain’t Gotta Holla” song you had earlier; sounds REAL NICE!!! Sounds like one of tha earlier songs about you on a journey. Tha 1st verse iz DEFINITELY pretty nice; you doin’ ya thang here!! Tha content’s real and it’s all about tha beat really providin’ dat quality!! Tha 2nd verse iz descriptive ‘bout what you want; sounds real good ta hear! Tha 3rd verse iz real as fuck, too! I like tha “…stab you in tha back, then, smile in yo face” part; I know how dat iz! I don’t get how people tried ta “re-like” me, lol. I dunno how you can “re-like” someone? My Rating: 4.4

12. “I’m Fresh, I’m Clean” Feat. Max Minelli, Lil’ Boxx & J.D.
J.D., tha 2002 dude? Iz it really a collaboration here, lol? EQ doin’ tha beat once again!! >>> Sounds pretty nice and yea, it’s really Max on tha intro! Good hook right here; definitely soundin’ hot wit tha beat!! LOL, you’re REALLY goin’ out on tha 1st verse here!! “She suck me like a candy cane;” lol, talk about long fuckin’, lol! Max’s on tha 2nd verse, spittin’ his consistentness into tha song. LOL, tha title’s “I’m Fresh, I’m Clean” but has a lotta sex lyrics, lol? Here comes Lil’ Boxx on tha 3rd verse, actually spittin’ ‘bout tha title, lol. Nice and consistent from him, doin’ tha damn thang! LOL, tha final 32 seconds iz J.D., doin’ his thang, too. My Rating: 4.3

13. “I’mma Dogg”
Let’s get it again, Guss, lol! >>> Y’all must be REAL COOL wit each other; I’ve NEVA heard Guss dis good and consistent before!!! Wit Boosie’s CDs, he’s been known ta disappoint (same wit Big Wayne). But, on undaground CDs, tha true quality comes out!! Tha hook’s nice; good, catchy shit! Good shit wit tha 1st verse; you just keepin’ it goin’, big “dogg” status, ya dig? I really like how tha beat reminds me of an Egyptian style; good-ass shit!! Tha 2nd verse sounds like you’re fiendin’ tha sex again, lol. Tha 3rd verse iz soundin’ nice, too; very catchy here, ya dig? My Rating: 4.4

14. “Let Me Ease Yo Mind”
>>> First odd song for me although Guss on tha beat. You know I can’t “ease [my] mind” ‘cause I have about anotha 90-somethin’ reviewz ta do before tha year ends! Even though I try, I can’t “ease”, lol. Now dat I heard tha hook about “roll it up”, I think I might like dis a lil’ more; you know what it iz! Kinda Poppy wit tha “lady” parts but it still sounds pretty good… After tha 2nd verse, for some reason, I’m gettin’ bored. Not every song has ta be 250 seconds or longer, lol. My Rating: 3.6

15. “Beat It Up”
LOL, tha more-advanced version of tha last song! LOL, Guss again on tha beat! >>> No “cousin” tag, lol! I figured out tha screwed part was just a repeat of “Guss made my beat”, lol… Kinda tha same as tha last song. Tha only difference iz that tha lyrics are betta (more explicit and less Poppy) and tha beat’s alive! This one’s also slowly gettin’ boring but I ain’t that bored… My Rating: 3.9

16. “I Think I’m All That” Feat. Max Minelli
Uh oh, almost a minute longer… Now, it’s EQ on tha beat and Max on tha feature! >>> Sounds like we’re back ta tha songs dat sounded consistent! Simple but good for tha hook; you know what it iz… Tha 1st verse’s pretty good; keepin’ this shit on a quality level! Tha 2nd verse’s cool, too; keep it goin’… Max’s on tha 3rd verse, showin’ his cool side, lol. Pretty cool-soundin’ joint right chea… My Rating: 4.2

17. “You Ain’t No Gansta” Feat. Young Ready
LOL, you know Young Ready had ta be featured on your CD! Anotha EQ beat; let’s keep ‘em comin’!! >>> LOL, that “do-do-do-do-do” was, like, trumpets or somethin’ in tha beginning, lol! Then, tha typical sound of his came out before tha hook. Hearin’ tha hook and tha hook’s pretty nice; definitely tha shit I wanna hear, ya dig? I like how you’re comin’ through on tha 1st verse; dat street shit wit buku quality!! I really like Young Ready’s ad-libs in tha background on tha hook; dumb shit!! He’s even on tha 2nd verse, doin’ tha damn thang to tha fullest! Nice and consistent wit these rhymes, too; good job, Ready! You know what it iz! Back ta you on tha 3rd verse, Junior, keepin’ dis shit goin’! LOL, I like tha “dolla” part; you have a GR8 flow on dis shit! My Rating: 4.4

18. “Whiplash” Feat. Savage & Max Minelli
Familiar, ’08 lineup here wit Savage on tha beat. I assume this iz from “The Equation”? >>> LMAO!!! AHH, IT REALLY IZ!!! This tha original version; tha remix wit Cali on it was on “The Equation”. I’ll just review it anyway… I believe you should give Savage a credit on tha feature, too, since he’s on tha hook. Tha hook’s definitely nice on this CRAZY beat!! Max Minelli doin’ tha damn thang on tha 1st verse; good-ass shit here!!! Max’s on tha 2nd verse, again, doin’ his thang… Such a REAL GR8 flow here and how consistent Savage iz wit tha production!! You’re on tha 3rd verse and I was originally gonna criticize “turn my beat up.” However, “Turn My Swag On” wasn’t out back then (thank God). Pretty good shit here although I like tha remix betta. I rated tha remix 4.4; would’ve rated higher now so this may look higher but it currently, statistically’s not. My Rating: 4.5

Overall: You KNOW dis shit was REAL NICE!!! I’m real glad you sourced tha producers on tha back cover and brought some of tha BEST ones, too!! Tha features were DEFINITELY off tha chain and you kept it goin’ wit SO MUCH quality, ya dig?!? Keep up tha REAL GR8 work!!!
