R.I.P. Video #45: Nu$$ie 2.0

Broadcasting from Mary's Grave in St. James on Long Island, NY, this ya boy, Frank Calhoune, a.k.a. FrankieThaLuckyDog here, reportin' a special edition of anotha loss in tha Louisiana rap community...

Today, February 10, 2016, marks seven years since tha murder of Baton Rouge, LA rapper, Chris Lynell "Nu$$ie" Jackson. Jackson was known as "Nussie" in tha streetz and in tha underground Louisiana rap game; Jackson founded Dope Celebrity Records in 2004. Jackson released Operation Sneak Attack & Bad Azz in 2006, not to be confused with fellow Rouger, Lil' Boosie. He followed tha next year up with The Good Bad Guy in 2007, as well as The Movement with tha Dope Celebrity Family. In 2008, he released The Champ Iz Here, hosted Kenner, LA DJ, Jimmy The DJ's Gangsta Gumbo Vol. 2: Ghetto Pass & his final release, Featuring Nu$$ie, a compilation mainly featuring underground Baton Rouge artists' lead songs featuring Jackson. Jackson was featured on plenty of Baton Rouge artists' songs, such as Beat Flippa, Big Fancy, tha now-popular Kevin Gates, Level, Lil' Yella & plenty others. Jackson also starred in a few movies throughout 2008: The Abduction of Jesse Bookman, Sinners & Saints & Death Toll. During tha night of Monday, February 9, 2009, Jackson was at a friend's house in Baton Rouge on tha computer and playing video games. Jackson and tha friend left for a short time to get drinks at tha Shell gas station on Florida Boulevard. When they returned back to tha house, shots were fired. Both Jackson and his brother, Frederick Mitchell, were shot. Mitchell survived, while his brother was murdered on tha couch. Jackson previously had beef with Torrence Hatch, a.k.a. Lil' Boosie. Rumors began to fly around that Hatch hired Michael "Marlo Mike" Louding to kill Nu$$ie for a lil' gwap. Louding was only 16 years-old when he murked Jackson, who was 33; Louding iz now 23. Tha love for Nu$$ie was overwhelming from tha world, worldwide, as thousands of people began to recognize him, as well as respect his perspective of stats and facts. If Nu$$ie were still alive today, he would've been 40, earlier on July 17, 2015.

Review #798: Thug Brothers "Diamonds In Tha Dirt"

Reviewed on 12.29.2010 (Review #798)

My 9th review of tha day, which iz tha end of tha hard copies for now: Thug Brothers “Diamonds In Tha Dirt! This has an unknown year as well as no tracklisting and no front cover available. Start Time: 10:26 PM | End Time: 10:55 PM

Quick Note: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion!! I only please myself wit my ratings!! I don’t care how lyrical you are! As long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much REALLY LOVE it as it’s considered “mindblowin’” when I hear it. Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song. Anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it.

12.
>>> “2007 & 8;” iz dat when dis’s from? Pretty consistent ‘bout tha “rims” and how they “keep spinnin’”! Y’all like tha Ville Boyz a lil’ bit wit how y’all a group dat’s really consistent on tha CDs!! Glad there’s buku groups; it just means more greatness ta offer!! My Rating: 4.4

13.

14.
>>> Somewhat-long, hot beat intro here… I like tha ‘poppin’ pillz’ shit goin’ on here, lol. Y’all jammin’ to this beat, too; good shit! My Rating: 4.5

15.
>>> Thought tha start of tha beat was gonna sound real familiar but it’s not. Ooh, did I hear somethin’-“Max Minelli”? Tha “I ain’t hard ta find” shit sounds tight, ya dig? LOL, B.G. randomly appeared! He’s doin’ a nice job on tha 1st verse; have I heard dis before? I’m really likin’ dis combo! “Black ‘Bauds;” can’t ask fa anything betta!! LOL, Sam I Am comin’ outta nowhere; how in tha hell did I guess tha features were gonna keep increasin’?!? Tight-ass shit!!! Lotta shit he spittin’; good-ass shit!!! My Rating: 4.6

17.
>>> Pretty-long song… Somewhat slow and tha vocals in tha background make it sound a lil’ sad; somewhat annoyin’ here and there… Glad y’all got tha street shit goin’ on; that’s a plus. Tha production’s nice and tha rappin’ sounds consistent; feelin’ tha street content at all times!! Even tha talkin’ at times iz cool ta hear. My Rating: 4.1

18.
>>> Ugh, hope this CD ain’t dyin’… I don’t like dis beat; gay-soundin’ sample, too! Y’all rappin’ pretty good on tha beat, itself, but dat annoyin’-ass sample kills tha mood fa me! Again, good content but tha Baton Rouge vibe ain’t here fa me. My Rating: 3.5

Review #283: Shop Shutters "The Beginning"

Reviewed on 8.16.2009 (Review #283)

Ya boy FrankieThaLuckyDog grindin' hard wit these reviewz NON-STOP!! Tha next one up iz for tha Shop Shutters, who I recently featured in Big Markee (a.k.a. Relentless)'s R.I.P. video, which iz here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=py-SXjXyUBA . After usin' most of tha music in that video, I KNEW this was gonna be a REAL GREAT CD to review, so I gon review it right now (thanx to Young Rob On The Track for hookin' it up fa me)!! Here goes my review for Shop Shutters "The Beginning"! Visit http://www.shopshutter.com for more info! BTW, Shop Shutters iz Redchild, Gutta-B, John Slaughter, Scizzor, Wolf, Jaw Breaker, B.T., Lady J, Lil' Ree, Lil' Sho, Relentless & Wild Thang. Start Time: 11:19 AM | End Time: 12:44 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me or have auto-tune in your vocals, I’m not buyin’ it!

01. "We Made It"
This startin' title seems kinda odd 'cause although y'all "made it," I neva heard about y'all 'til Big Markee a.k.a. Relentless was murdered July 24. Anyway, time 2 review & rehear this whole CD, which iz a Louisiana classic!! REAL LONG starting song wit 7:29 on tha length!! >>> This iz tha song that plays when you try to play tha CD on tha website. I like that beat intro! Tha hook iz nice and smooth, and it mixes some nice, raw vocals too! I like tha 1st dude here wit tha "he movin' slow like a snake wit some deadly venom" part. REAL NICE 1st verse, includin' that tha dude shouted out a bunch of tha Shop Shutters. Real nice start to tha 2nd verse wit a flow that sounds like Shell Da Yung Thugga from 3Deep! Yea, "'bauds saggin'," and doin' tha damn thang! I think that's Scizzor? Real nice job on that 2nd verse; str8 pure quality from Louisiana!! Here comes tha 3rd verse, and it's soundin' pretty consistent. I don't have much ta say, but tha voice & flow really sounds nice here. That was Gutta-B, doin' tha damn thang! Tha 4th verse iz here, and it soundin' cool. Feelin' tha rhymes and tha flow here. Dude doin' his thang on this shit; I think that was Wild Thang! Here tha 5th verse here, and tha flow & lyrics sound good! My boy Relentless (R.I.P.) deliverin' this hot verse here!! Too bad he was murdered... I wish I knew about this CD when it came out 'cause I would've showed it luv! My Rating: 4.6

02. "Go Get It"
I don't rememba what this one sounded like, but tha length iz nice!! As long as it's ova 4:30, I usually have a good feelin' for it!! >>> Sounds like a slow intro here. John Slaughter talkin' in tha beginning. LOL @ how he said "brothhher." Glad you gave a shout out ta Big Markee a.k.a. Big Markese a.k.a. Relentless! Wolf on tha track here. Slaughter also doin' tha 1st verse here, deliverin' some great hood lyrics ova this slow beat. Nice 1st verse, and tha hook iz not bad; it mixes good wit this CD and all tha rappaz on here! Tha 2nd verse here, and it's Wolf I'm assumin' (since he said, "Wolf come wit tha music"). Nice job right there wit tha verse. I hope there's a 3rd verse... Yes, there iz! Luvin' all tha "blazin'" rhymes here! John Slaughter again on tha 3rd verse here, doin' a real nice job! Yea, he "real wit it" wit this shit! My Rating: 3.8

03. "Who Can I Trust?"
I think this was a real good song? Lemme see what it was again... >>> Nice beat start here, as it comes in pretty quick. Yea, this iz pretty good. B.T. doin' his thang on this; I rememba that hook! Even givin' a shout out ta Big Markee in tha hook; that's watz good!! Tha 1st verse here, and it's tha shit, fa real!! He even said "dawg," so you KNOW this shit iz official!! He said, "2005, tha whole world gon have luv fa my click;" how old iz this CD then? REAL GOOD 1st verse; B.T. doin' a GREAT job wit this shit right here!! Tha 2nd verse here from Gutta-B, doin' ANOTHA nice job here!! Such a GREAT flow, and this iz tha shit when it comes ta listenin' to it!!! Gangsta rhymes too in this verse; 100% gangsta shit wit pure quality to tha fullest here!! Even he gave a shout out ta Marquise (Big Markee)! Tha 3rd verse right here, and it IZ "tha hottest of tha hot" (like B.G.)! Yea, "get a 10 pack of chewies;" jiggalatin' here. Fuckin' luv this!!! My Rating: 4.8

04. "Life's A Bitch"
Lemme see this one... Nearly 4 minutes long. >>> This a catchy beat here. Now, this reminds me of tha R.I.P. video (I think I put it as music towards tha end of tha video)! Tha 1st verse here, doin' a NICE job wit tha lyrics and tha rappin'!! Ironic that he said, "lost yo life to a blastin' pistol," 'cause that's how Markee died! Really luvin' tha rappin' here; I can't say it any better!! It's just a blessin' ta hear this shit!! Tha hook rolls through pretty good; luv these Baton Rouge type beats!! Sad ta hear someone "left this dirty world" on "September 26, 1997." Although tha loss, tha 2nd verse REALLY jammin' too on this shit!! I like that "they treat us like animals, they try ta cage a nigga." I feel you on that, Scizzor, 'cause they do that ta folks when they in jail; it SUX!!! Tha 3rd verse here, ROLLIN' HARD on this shit!!! All those lyrics are REAL GREAT, and go GREAT wit emotion too!! My boy B.T. on that HOT-ASS shit right chea!!! My Rating: 4.7

05. "Thug In Us"
There's a mix-up here wit what Song #5 iz... I'm not goin' wit tha mp3 files I have; I'm goin' wit tha tracklisting on tha Shop Shutters website. Therefore, this song iz "Thug In Us" (which iz listed as #7 on my mp3 for some reason). Lemme hear how good this one gon sound!! >>> Pretty anticipatin' beat; great hood shit as always!! Nice "jungle livin'" hook, as well as tha hook overall; REALLY feelin' how it sounds!! Great start to tha 1st verse here; I like tha "O.A.K." initials! Nice ending to tha verse wit tha "tees, dreads," etc.! I hear one of tha girlz on tha 2nd hook, and she sounds great! Anotha female here (Lady J) on tha 2nd verse too, deliverin' hot gangsta shit here for a female! Her verse sounded short, but at least tha otha female continued where she left off! Jaw Breaker doin' a REAL NICE job on tha 3rd verse! Ooh, Lady J "blowin' on sum dank" here on tha 2nd 1/2 of tha 3rd verse!! Really felt that 3rd verse!! Ooh, tha 4th hook has a combination of people on here on tha hook; great combination!! My Rating: 4.7

06. "Knock His Head Off"
When I was tryna find tha video wit Relentless in it, this was tha 1st song I heard; nice lil' video. I'm glad y'all had some sorta video. This shit iz tha shit right here, so I'm REALLY lookin' forward ta givin' it a review!!! >>> REAL NICE beat intro; gets you ALL ready fa this REAL HOT SHIT that 'bout ta come out ya speakers!!! Wolf startin' this off on tha 1st verse wit those REAL, REAL GUTTA VOCALS!!! Yea, he SHOULD "be damned if he fell off;" he doin' a REAL NICE job wit this shit!!! REAL TIGHT 1st verse; couldn't get ANY betta, as well as this REAL TIGHT hook too!!!!! Here comes John Slaughter on tha 2nd verse, keepin' this shit flowin' wit that GREAT flow wit tha rhymes!! Real nice job here!! Relentless on tha 2nd 1/2 of tha 2nd verse here!! Luv his FAST-ASS rappin' here to tha fullest!!! REAL GREAT shit he spittin'; TOO GREAT!!!!! He IZ "tha murda show" wit this Rap shit!! This shit just continues REAL GREAT wit my boy Gutta-B on tha 3rd verse, "goin' beast mode!" Luv his black match wit his "black tee, black girbauds," and all tha good shit he got!! STR8 GANGSTA SHIT RIGHT HERE that iz REAL Crunk!!! Perfect song fa me as tha beat GOES REAL HARD, tha verses GO REAL HARD, and that hook iz just PERFECT for this song!!! I'm REAL GLAD a short music video was made for this 'cause it goes to show you how RAW these boyz are!!! My Rating: 5.0

07. "We All We Got"
This should be a REAL TIGHT one too!!! Tha title reminds me of what was said in tha 1st song, "We Made It". It's Song #5 on my mp3, but I'm goin' wit tha tracklisting on tha site, where it's tha #7 song. >>> Anotha REAL NICE beat intro here!! This iz tha song that plays when you select thingz on tha site (e.g., Contact Info, Store, etc.). That hook iz JUST AS TIGHT as tha last one, although I think I like this one betta 'cause there's more lyrics!! Tha 1st verse here, and it's REAL TIGHT, ESPECIALLY @ 1:05: "Dirty South, Louisiana, Baton Rouge what I'm reppin';" it can't get ANY BETTA than havin' Baton Rouge in your verse!!!!! I think that was Markee, but regardless, that was some REAL NICE shit right there!!! Tha 2nd verse here, and it's soundin' pretty good. Deliverin' an emotional flow here that sounds like he don't give a fuck about all tha negative shit goin' on wit him! Anotha verse that has "Baton Rouge" in it, so MAJOR PLUS!!! It sounded better towards tha end of tha verse, and I like that lil' beat interlude afta tha verse; great arrangement!! Tha 3rd verse here, and it Scizzor, deliverin' some REAL TIGHT SHIT wit tha flow here!! Gangsta shit to tha fullest!!! Yea, there's room for a 4th verse!!!! Wow, TOO gutta here!!! Sounds like Wolf this time, and he doin' a REAL NICE job wit his voice, as well as tha lyrics and tha way he delivers it!! This tha lyrical shit I WANT!!! Glad a lot of these songs are NICE and LONG!!! My Rating: 4.9

½time: I KNEW this was gon be a STR8 CLA$$IC!!! Every song goes HARD and TO THA MAX!!! I hope ta do business wit these dudes!!! Hope they still around!!! Tha 2nd 1/2 'bout ta be JUST AS GOOD, so you KNOW this has HIGH-ASS ratings all ova it!!! Average CD rating iz currently a WHOPPING 4.6!!!

08. "Get Loose"
Wit a title like that, it CAN'T fail!!! >>> LUV tha music in tha beginning!! Reminds me of old Super Nintendo game music, lol. I like tha "jigg" shit in tha beginning! This sum gangsta shit here in tha 1st verse; REAL TIGHT wit tha song right here!! Yea, tha hook iz tha shit wit tha "I jigg, I jigg, I drank, I drank, I smoke back 2 back" part; REAL GREAT hook!!!!! Here comes tha 2nd verse here from tha same dude (if I'm not mistaken)! Keepin' this verse nice and consistent, although I liked tha 1st verse betta. Yea, "'bauds saggin'!" Yea, tha hook continues consistently into tha 3rd verse here wit my ma'fuckin' boy Gutta-B!! I didn't realize it was him doin' this whole fuckin' song; how FUCKIN' TIGHT!!!!! REAL GREAT solo song from him!!! I think it deserves a nice **PERFECT RATING** from me!! My Rating: 5.0

09. "I'm A Shop Shutter"
Tha title couldn't have defined tha CD's definition any betta, lol! Lookin' forward ta this one; forgot how it sounded in my R.I.P. video. >>> Oh shit, a TIGHT beat intro!!! Didn't expect that for a second!! Yea, tha hook iz on some REAL TIGHT SHIT here!!! I think that B.T. on tha 1st verse? If not, that Markee, but it still sounds REAL GREAT on this shit!! Nothin' but good rhymes and flow that just needs no extra explainin'!! Tha hook iz tha shit, ESPECIALLY if it says, "puttin' Baton Rouge on tha map;" that's REALLY watz good!!! Tha 2nd verse here, and it's just pure!! Not much ta say, but you KNOW it held it down!! Tha 3rd verse here too, keepin' it consistent! Iz this whole entire song tha same dude? I believe this whole entire song iz Relentless 'cause I was givin' this song ta put in tha R.I.P. video, so I'm assumin' he held this whole song down!! I'm REAL GLAD this 3rd verse held it down wit NON-STOP MOTIVATION ta get tha Shop Shutters' name out there!!! My Rating: 4.7

10. "Get Right"
I heard this in my R.I.P. video, and although tha title doesn't have much of an explaination, just hearin' tha song and hook iz REAL GOOD!!! Wait 'til I review it right now... Let's see how GOOD of a rating it'll get!!! >>> Gutta-B in tha beginning, doin' tha damn thang here!! I like how tha beat sounded right when tha 1st verse came in!! Yea, my boy doin' his thang on this shit!!! Raps that can't be fucked wit on ANY level!!! That hook iz tha SHIT!!! Yea, tha "poppin' pills and spinnin' rims" part makes tha hook REAL NICE!!! Tha 2nd verse iz here, and I think it's Relentless or Scizzor. Such a REAL TIGHT verse right here wit NON-STOP rappin' that's at a GREAT pace, as well as tha GREAT rhymes wit that GREAT voice!!!!! If that ain't Relentless, then Relentless on tha hook. Here tha 3rd verse here... Just NON-STOP rappin'!!! It gets betta towards tha end as it's EVEN FASTER!!! Wow, 2 TIMES FASTER at tha last few lines!!!!! This DEFINITELY that TIGHT SHIT right here!!! Great, long beat outro too! Oh shit, tha hook came on again!! My Rating: 4.9

11. "Posted Up"
This one ova 5 minutes long, and was also in my R.I.P. video!! Let's see how good it sounds on tha review!! >>> Catchy beat intro here; nice feelin'! That hook iz on some REAL shit!! Although tha otha songs sounded more hyper on tha hooks, this still sounds REAL NICE 'cause of tha words in tha hook, as well as how tha dude held it down! Tha 1st verse here, and tha consistency of this CD don't stop!! Glad dude "work them nunchucks!" It's GREAT ta have a weapon in your verse, as well as havin' all "choppaz loaded up" in tha hook too!!! Let's see what we got on tha 2nd verse... LOL, it's Relentless, just comin' through wit that STR8 GANGSTA SHIT!!! Thumbs up to tha "diamonds & rubies" on this shit! Tha verse was 100% PURE GANGSTA!!! Tha 3rd verse here, keepin' it strong. I like tha "they jiggin'" part; great club vibe!! REALLY like tha "oh, Lordy, Lordy, I get retarded, 'tarted!" part a WHOLE LOT!! It goes ta show you how GREAT of a flow that was!!! Ooh, I hear heavy breathin' before tha 4th verse, lol! Yea, soundin' REAL GREAT on tha mic!! LOL @ tha "poppin' bubble" part, where there was an actual bubble popped on tha track, lmao! Glad he "lettin' his nuts hang" 'cause he tha shit, and CAN'T BE DEFEATED!!! Or, as Relentless would say, "CAN'T BE DENIED!!!" That 3rd verse was REAL, REAL TIGHT!!! DEFINITELY tha best on this track!!! My Rating: 4.8

12. "Arms Of The Law"
This was tha last song in my R.I.P. video (so tha last 3 songs I officially neva heard). I rememba there bein' singin' in it, but I think it gon turn out pretty good... >>> Pretty nice beat here. Sounds like Scizzor again on this verse here. Nice job wit tha verse here. Did someone else come in on tha 1st verse? I'm not sure, but it still sounded pretty good. Yea, I rememba tha singin'. It sounds good though, including tha rappin' on tha hook too. Tha 2nd verse here, and it sounds like paranoia in tha rhymes, as he's "nervous as a bitch" here. Glad ta put tha paranoia in tha rhymes! I heard "pills," so I'm assumin' that Relentless came up in tha 2nd verse somewhere. That 2nd 1/2 of tha 2nd verse sounded REAL NICE though!! My Rating: 4.0

13. "You Don't Want None"
Lookin' forward to this one... I KNOW it gon be sum HOT SHIT!!! >>> A different kinda start here wit tha beat... Tha 1st verse sounds like a different dude/somewhat singer? Not sure how much I like it, but tha rhymes are pretty good. Tha hook sounds aight, but that 1st verse person sounds pretty good combinin' on it. He on tha 2nd verse too... Once again, real great rhymes, although I'm not too much into tha vocals. He still holdin' it down on tha 3rd verse, so this must be his solo song (as well as havin' anotha Shop Shutter dude collab wit him). Not bad... Iz this Red Child on this shit? That's tha only dude I didn't exactly hear throughout this CD yet. He don't look like a singer... My Rating: 3.6

14. "Nexxtell"
Wonder what this gon sound like fa a song ova 5 minutes long? Hope it's good for that length!! >>> Faster beat this time, and it's soundin' REAL NICE!! Scizzor on tha hook, and tha hook iz pretty catchy right here. Really feelin' tha 1st verse from here, just deliverin' some REAL NICE shit wit tha rhymes, tha voice, and tha flow on this beat!!! He doin' a REAL NICE job on this song; hope it's just him on tha song, but I wouldn't mind anyone else on it too!! Speakin' of what I just said, someone else on tha 2nd verse here... Nearly off-beat on this verse. Tha off-beat confused me, so it was just an aight verse; should've been Scizzor's!! Tha 3rd verse here, startin' off REAL, REAL GOOD wit "let's power up and chew somethin'!" REAL GREAT street rhymes on this verse right here!! REALLY held it down!! I like how he said "dawg" on that verse. Really feelin' this shit to tha fullest! I would've rated it slightly higher if tha 2nd verse was betta. My Rating: 4.5

15. "Give It To 'Em"
Tha last song from this AMAZING CD!!!!! I HOPE IT GOES REAL HARD!!!!! >>> Pretty good beat start for an ending song. One of tha females on tha hook wit (I think) Wolf; nice combo! Tha hook iz catchy, so thumbs up to tha duet here! One of tha females on tha 1st verse here, just not pausin' ta rap, lol! She did her thang on tha 1st 1/2 of this!! Let's see tha 2nd 1/2... It's a dude, and he soundin' pretty good too. Not bad on this, although more needs ta be delivered in tha voice. One of tha females on tha 2nd verse also... Still soundin' good on this shit wit Lady J as well! Nice fightin' rhymes on this verse too! That gurl on tha 3rd verse iz Lil' Sho; she doin' her thang! Really feelin' how she raps! Now, J on tha next part, doin' a pretty good job. LOL, she said, "dawg;" nice shit. I like Lil' Sho betta though. Jaw Breaker here on tha next part, doin' a NICE job wit how he deliverin'. Tha verse just ended... too many endings in tha 3rd verse. LOL, it sounds like chipmunks on tha last 33 seconds. My Rating: 4.4

Overall: Well, I don't know what else ta say, but I REALLY ENJOYED THIS CD!!!!! Shop Shutter Records & Shop Shutters REALLY put together a REAL NICE project right here!!! Say your prayers for Relentless a.k.a. Big Markese a.k.a. Big Markee a.k.a. Big Marquise!! Hope he doin' good where he at!! Otha than him, I hope tha rest of y'all that are still around KEEP DOIN' YA THANG!!!!! Hope anotha Shop Shutters CD comes out in tha future; it should be made!!!

Review #143: Big Jay & Pyrex Radio Presents Savage "Mixweight: Crack On Da Track"

Reviewed on 10.24.2008 (Review No. 143)

It's FrankieThaLuckyDog here, 'bout to show some more luv to Louisiana as Big Jay & Pyrex Radio are presentin' this mixtape to Datpiff: It's Savage and a mixtape called "Mixweight: Crack On Da Track". I didn't know Savage had this and I'm not sure how old it iz but you know I gotta do it for my boy Savage! Here goes my review for Big Jay & Pyrex Radio Presents Savage "Mixweight: Crack On Da Track"! Start Time: 10:40 PM | Video Game Playing: Secret Of Mana (for Super Nintendo) (on my computer)

Disclaimer:
I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion!

01. "In The Kitchen (Intro)"
Let's see how Savage be "in tha kitchen" wit them pots and shit wit this intro/mixtape! >>> I like that phone call in tha beginning and those Pyrex Radio sound effects wit tha bubblin'. That's a pretty nice East Coast type of beat for this intro. I'm hearin' you rappin' to this right now and you're flowin' real nice on this beat. Great start to tha mixtape. My Rating: 4.0

02. "Wrong Side Of Da Track (U Know Dat)" Feat. B.G., Soulja Slim & Fiend
So what's up wit Soulja bein' on this track? Iz it supposed to be a sample or somethin'? I'm likin' tha name of this joint so we'll see how good it iz! >>> I like that Baton Rouge type of beat in tha beginning; gotta luv those types of beats!!! B.G. startin' off wit that 1st verse… Likin' it so far, especially wit tha "fresh dickie shirt" and tha "'bauds." I like that "wit ya people ova a tee" line; good shit from B.G.! Gotta feel when you (Savage) are on tha hook; you make great hooks. Hearin' you on tha 2nd verse dawg… Great shit so far, especially wit learnin' about tha "niggas 'round tha corner" part when you said that; nice Savage. Mr. R.I.P. a.k.a. Soulja Slim on tha 3rd verse… Of course, he delivers a gutta verse! Pretty much most rappers that get killed always deliver tight parts, no matter what! Hearin' Fiend on tha last verse… He had a nice part too; pretty nice track overall! My Rating: 4.3

03. "Dat Gudda Shit" Feat. Chill & Big Head
Not just No. 2 but you produced this joint as well. Let's see how you gon do wit Big Head and this Chill dude… >>> Sounds pretty good again for a start wit that beat. I'm likin' that nice hook right there from you. Tha beat easily reminds me of tha shit you'd see on Pyrex Radio mixtapes (no wonder, this iz one; not one of their compilations though). Chill starts off on tha 1st verse… Nice lil' delivered verse from him; gotta feel anybody from Louisiana! Hearin' tha 2nd verse right now from you and it's soundin' tight wit all those lyrics relatin' to kush. Now I hear Big Head finally on tha 3rd verse… Glad he can "turn a brick into two." I'm glad he liked my review for his "Trill 4 Real" CD; nice verse! Likin' tha fade-out on this joint. My Rating: 4.2

04. "I Ain't Got No Mind" Feat. T-Lo Of Da Jiggalators & Big Markee
Actually, I just realized that I reviewed this in tha past. Let's see what I said about it and what I will add to it: This iz HOT! Real good Savage verse! What are all those letters in tha hook? I can't connect them, lol. Tight joint. To add to this: I remembered that beat and thought it was for "Hood Fab" but it was a 2006 theme beat to one thing on MTV Jams where they were showin' around in different cities (like in Florida, showin' rims and shit; forgot what it was called). I hear tha hook better now and it says, "R-E-T-A-R-D-E-D." I think I couldn't connect it at first 'cause it said it twice in a row. Yeah, Savage has a REAL HOT verse, especially wit those "I'm like Pop Eye's chicken, got a 2-piece special" and that "put a nigga in tha blender like I'm makin' a smoothie" lines!!! I'm LOVIN' tha strawberry/banana smoothies I'm havin' at my new college now! VERY GOOD for only $3.19! That's a nice 2nd verse, especially wit all those "retontoe" (sp?) lyrics (referin' to bein' "R-E-T-A-R-D-E-D"). I'm REALLY likin' that 3rd verse; real great flow to get ya in tha mood! Makes anyone wanna get "R-E-T-A-R-D-E-D" and do you; great shit!! I'm boostin' tha rating I had for it originally (originally a 4.2)! Oh, and great beat again Savage; glad to see it featured on MTV Jams 2 years ago!! My Current Rating: 4.5

05. "Keep It All 'G'"
It's just you again for this one. You did tha beat also so I'm lookin' forward to hearin' this! Hope tha flow iz "R-E-T-A-R-D-E-D," lol! >>> Just by pressin' play, it went right into tha beat; real nice beat again! Glad this iz 4:31; great "G shit" type of hook! I'm likin' that "deliver tha rock" line in tha 1st verse; great 1st verse you delivered to tha listeners! Hearin' tha 2nd verse now and I'm definitely likin' that "Katrina aftermath" line; real nice! Glad you're "built like an armor truck" by bein' "250;" that's why you are a "savage" Savage. Nice 3rd verse also, especially since you're considered "that raw, that crack, that hydroponic purp, that meth, that cane and that whole truck of birds" when it comes to things; REAL NICE set of parts right there!! My Rating: 4.4

06. "Eat 'Em Alive"
A shout out to DJ Toomp? Did he do this beat for you? I wanna hear it! >>> That's REAL COOL that he did this track (and that it wasn't a "jacked beat"); smart move Sav! Glad you're on this whole entire joint and that you're "not wit all that bubblegum Rap shit;" same here! That's why when it comes to reviews, I review mostly underground shit (mainly Louisiana shit). If I was to review mainstream shit and sometimes shit not from Louisiana, tha ratings would be a lot lower. Great 1st verse and a very, very interesting hook wit tha beginning of it and tha "I'm 'bout to 'eat 'em alive'" part! Definitely likin' your 2nd verse, especially since dumb fucks (hatin'-ass males) have "feminine" inside of them; glad you "smell fear" on them! I like your 3rd verse and tha "I'm in tha lab, come and sample what I'm givin' up" line. I thought you was gonna post some of your samples on tha Word Of South board? Somebody also was askin' for tha samples as well. It would help if I had them too 'cause I really want a Louisiana sound in my beats when I make beats. My Rating: 4.4

07. "Getting Some Head (Remix)"
Perfect song to jack. I wanna hear how you did on this lil' remix version! >>> For a second, I thought I reviewed this/heard this already but I guess I didn't. I checked my iTunes (where I added your previous mixtapes that I reviewed from you) but nothin'; nice 1st verse though. A nice lil' catchy 2nd verse from you too on this. Cool 3rd verse; I'm glad "your dick stay in her mouth like her gold teeth." I like at tha end also wit tha "toast and tha eggs" part; nice shit here Savage! My Rating: 4.0

08. "Make It Roll" Feat. Front Street Black
Iz this gon be a club banga? Let's see how this gon sound for me… >>> Hearin' that moanin' in tha background; didn't expect it to sound like a sequel to tha "Getting Some Head (Remix)". A lil' different style for a club banga but it works; nice hook. Pretty nice 1st verse from Front Street Black on here. This iz pretty nice for tha fellas, especially every like 3 seconds wit that girl moanin'! Seducin' tha females pretty good on that 2nd verse Sav. Nice 1st ½ of tha 3rd verse also Savage wit tha seducin' to tha females. Hearin' Front Street Black on tha 2nd ½ of tha 3rd verse and he's pretty good on this too; he sounds a lil' like D-Roc from tha Ying Yang Twins. My Rating: 3.8

09. "Eyez Redd"
You purp'd out Sav? I have a feelin' that's what shit this joint's on! Lookin' forward to hearin' it! >>> Yeah, more of a combination of "smokers, drinkers, pill poppas;" likin' that beat (sounds like Mouse a lil'). Speakin' of all this shit wit "mixin' shit" and shit like that, when I was comin' home from a college event today, there was this girl, she was in tha middle of tha road jammin' to tha music she was listenin' to. She was like… shot, and she got 911 called on her; lol! Great 1st verse and hearin' tha 2nd verse as I speak… Still tha same type of lyrics to go wit tha 1st verse and I'm likin' what err-body be doin' to get they "eyez redd." I like tha "jigg, jigg" parts in tha background before tha 3rd verse. I like that 3rd verse from you on this as well. I like how you kept it to tha topic of tha title tha whole way through; nice hook on this too. My Rating: 4.2

10. "Tryna Get The Cadillac"
Just lookin' at tha title (and there bein' no "produced by ___") on tha back cover, it must be a "jacked beat" song. I remember tha "Tryna Get The Cadillac" hook but forgot who sung it/how old it was. Let's see how you do on this joint Sav. >>> I like those "Pyrex Radio" parts randomly throughout these songs; yeah, this iz that "Tryna Get The Cadillac" song I know. I liked this beat and you had a pretty nice 1st verse on this; it's just as jammin' wit you rappin' over it. Glad you "familiar wit tha kitchen, you can serve it to tha trap;" great start to tha 2nd verse wit that line! Nice lil' 2nd verse too. Great shit here Savage as you made this jam continue to be a jam. My Rating: 4.0

11. "Leeches"
Anotha jacked one… I can't think of what it would be over but I wanna hear it 'cause that title seems interesting… >>> Only 2:00 on tha length flat. Glad your "stomach's still grummly." Sorry I downloaded this for free… But it's all good 'cause you're gettin' this review for free 'cause I'm cool wit you. If I eva had tha money for a feature/beat from you, I would pay you, no doubt. I know what that beat iz and (I think) it's from Purple City; anotha great beat you chose to rap ova (that's 3 for 3 wit tha jacked beats)! You did yo thang on this too. My Rating: 4.1

½time: Up, ½time already. Definitely likin' this. I wonder how old this shit iz… I went on Datpiff (where I got it from) and tha 1st comment was like April 2008 or some shit like that. I have a feelin' it's older, no doubt about that. Anyway, lookin' forward to see what's left. I have a feelin' there's not much long jointz left 'cause I felt like I've been reviewin' tracks 4 minutes and longer 'til No. 10.

12. "Body Shots"
Neva mind, back to tha Savage beats and lookin' forward to hearin'! >>> Nice beat intro right here and I'm likin' those "crib" sound effects in tha beginning (kinda like when they were combined on that "I Ain't Got No Mind" joint). Pretty nice 1st verse and tha hook sounds like a rework of tha Purple Ribbon Allstars's "Body Rock;" likin' that lil' hook! I like that "you talkin' all that talk but you ain't on that war shit" on tha beginning of tha 2nd verse! Glad you're "lightin' up in tha garbage;" that goes to show you that you're valuable! Pretty nice 3rd verse too on here; tha hook iz tha best for me, especially wit that beat from you! My Rating: 4.3

13. "Hustle Grind" Feat. Rudye & Nu$$ie
I see that there's an error on tha back cover: Tha word "grind" iz not in tha title when it should be. Anyway, this was on Nu$$ie's "Bad Azz" CD (so I'm guessin' this mixtape was like '06ish or some shit) so let's see what I had to say: Pretty good start. Good line right here: "like Pillsbury, I'm 'bout my dough." Great hook, and this joint came out pretty good. To add to this: Likin' that fast beat for this! Yeah, that's a tight hook wit how y'all "hustle" and "grind." Looks like Rudye iz "up at 7:00 AM;" early to get that bread. Yeah, just as I said before, that "Pillsbury" line was nice! You did yo thang on tha 2nd verse Sav; keepin' these beats, verses and hooks comin'! Nu$$ie, of course, doin' tha damn thang on his part! Glad he "sellin' rocks off tha ground;" gotta luv when he always shouts his name randomly (e.g., "NU$$IE!!")!! Boostin' my rating from a 4.2 to a 4.3 now! My Current Rating: 4.3

14. "So Fresh Widit"
That's how you do Sav. Now, lemme see you put it out there as a song wit you on tha beat! >>> Pretty nice start and yeah, tha title definitely applies now that you "let tha 'bauds sag" on this and "blow purp by tha o.z.;" great lines! I like that hook, including tha "fresh white tee and a fresh fitted" part; freshness right here Savage. Likin' your 2nd verse on this too. Likin' all those "jigg" parts during tha 3rd verse (or bridge; w/e you wanna call it). Glad you're positive about yourself on this shit by bein' "fresh" all tha time; great way to make a nice quality joint like this! Still likin' tha "jigg" parts as they were after tha last hook! My Rating: 4.5

15. "Freestyle"
Let's see watz good here… >>> Only 1:13 on tha length… I don't think I know tha beat. Yeah, "you gotta be tha best thang from Louisiana." You're a VERY GOOD artist no matter what you do (mixtapes, verses, beats, hooks, etc.). You are "not a soldier, you are a commander;" like that line. A lil' short for me to like more though. My Rating: 3.7

16. "Welcome 2 Baton Rouge"
Thanx 4 welcomin' me to BR! I hope to go there one day and *SPECIAL NEWS*: At my college, they're goin' on service trips to like North Carolina, Florida, B-More and… **New Orleans, Louisiana**! As soon as I heard it announced, I raised my hand right away and was VERY INTERESTED! I got lucky a few dayz ago as I filled out an application to go there! It's gonna only cost me $100 for a start (and prolly a lil' more later on) but I have a great chance of goin' there during Spring Break 2009!!!!! I'm REALLY lookin' forward to goin' to Louisiana for tha 1st time and helpin' out folks out there (especially tha African Americans; I put that in tha application). I also listed in it that I didn't have interest in tha other places; I wanted to go to Louisiana 'cause of reasons (like tha music business and tha people there). More info on that in tha future! For now, back to this mixtape; let's see what this iz over… >>> That's gutta that "off of 1st impulse, you love to shoot niggaz." Just listenin' to you on this goes to show you that you deserve all tha success you want in anything! Tha beat iz pretty nice for an East Coast beat; it just sounds better wit you on it. DEFINITELY likin' that "niggaz pissin' like redestructional kidneys" part; REAL NICE thinkin' there!! GREAT RHYMES throughout this whole lil' freestyle here!! My Rating: 4.3

17. "Old Skools" Feat. Lil' Handy (R.I.P.) & Webbie
Mouse produced this joint and it has tha late Handy on this. This'll be a nice joint prolly; lookin' forward to tha collab! >>> I just recovered my crew in tha video game I'm playin' by sleepin' in an inn and as soon as I heard tha intro, it gave me tha right feelin' to how it would sound in tha video game; great intro! Hearin' Lil' Handy on tha 1st verse… Too bad he died in a car accident May 19, 2004! I didn't even get to know him 'til last week, when I heard that joint where he said tha special "Mouse drop tha track, that'll make you bounce and act, what" line. Anyway, he's doin' his thang on this 1st verse. That's so not a Mouse beat and I'm really likin' it; real nice vibe to it! Reminds me a lil' of a Houston, Texas type of beat but it's real nice to hear it for Louisiana artists and to hear Louisiana artists rap on it! Great 1st verse from Lil' Handy there as well as tha hook. You sound younger on this Savage (I didn't recognize you there for a second on tha 2nd verse). Pretty nice there; you sound better now when you rap. Webbie even sounds like when I first heard him back in Early 2005. I think he had a pretty nice part on his verse. Nice lil' jam right here and I hope Mouse, Savage and Beat Flippa keep producin' beats 'cause that's what Baton Rouge needs!! Oh and nice lil' check-in from my dawg Young Ready at tha end!! My Rating: 4.1

18. "Ack A Ass Widit" Feat. Rudye & Young Ready
An error on tha ID … On tha cover, it looks like it says "AKA Ass" (should be "Ack A Ass Widit" as it says that on tha mp3 file I have). Anyway, I DEFINITELY wanna hear some more of Young Ready and anotha track produced by you! >>> Dunn dunn dunn, it's a Savage beat!! Will this be tha best song on here? Sounds like it has that easy potential for me! Likin' that beat better during tha hook and that's a nice hook right there for tha clubs! Nice lil' vibe in tha way you was flowin' on tha 1st verse; tight shit so far! Dyin' to hear what Young Ready did to this!! Let's hear what Rudye has to say on tha 2nd verse… He did his thang on his part! Here comes Young Ready!! Young Ready had a pretty nice part on his verse; definitely feelin' his shit. I think all tha props go to you for makin' this joint tha shit! My Rating: 4.6

19. "She A Poppa" Feat. Rudye
This was on "BET: Uncut"? That's cool if it was. This was prolly a jam back then too! >>> Tha intro reminds me of that "I Ain't Got No Mind" joint wit tha way tha beat sounds (tha "crib" sounds sound more like those gutta type of sounds). Rudye had a pretty nice 1st verse; nothin' really to say. Hearin' you on tha hook and (of course) you make them hooks sound great; nice Louisiana sound right here! Damn, this sounds real, real old (wit tha soundin')! Hearin' you on tha 2nd verse and soundin' really younger again. That's cool that it "lookin' like she got balloons in her pants." Already into tha 3rd verse and I'm quotin' somethin': I like that "ass droppin' like it can't define gravity" line! Pretty nice joint here, although I've heard better jointz. Nice lil' Cory Mo check-in at tha end wit that phone call. I tried goin' to tha website he said ( CoryMo.com ) and nothin' happened (I'm guessin' 'cause this mixtape iz a lil' old or somethin'?). My Rating: 3.9

20. "Ain't Hard 2 Find" Feat. Cory Mo & Trae
Let's see what goes on here wit this H-Town connection… >>> Not really feelin' tha "old, non-Louisiana" type of beat on here; sorry. Oh, it's an "old Outkast beat?" I guess that's a lil' exception then. Not bad verse from Cory Mo including that hook too. Hearin' you on tha 2nd verse… Sounds random wit this collabo and this beat. You had real nice lyrics on your verse for this one so that's a thumbs up. Trae on tha 3rd verse… Aight for me… I'm sorry but I almost can't get into some of tha H-Town sounds anymore. It was like a 2004-2006 thing for me. My Rating: 3.2

21. "Personal Message: Game Freestyle (Non Believers)"
Iz this a song? It prolly iz… Neva mind, I see a different ID on tha mp3 file. Let's see about these "non believers"… >>> Anotha beat I can't really get into… Can't really get into this but great lyrics you spittin' about what you're sayin' on this. My Rating: 3.0

22. "Smoke Blunts (I'm Gettin' Money)"
It says "Smoke Blunts" as tha title. But if this iz really "I'm Gettin' Money", then I reviewed that song already. Lemme pull up my most recent review for it: >>> Wait, neva mind, this iz a completely different song. No wonder why there's that "I'm" in part of tha ID. This iz a lil' short but REAL nice hook and great lil' beat from you; I like this. My Rating: 4.2

23. "Wood Grain Grippin'"
Been waitin' to see what this iz… Iz this what I think it iz (since there's no production credit)…? >>> Nope; thought it was a Marvelous J beat from 2006 that Natureboy Rowe rapped over on his "I Rap" joint. Sounds like "Cutty Buddy" a lil' in tha beat but I didn't want it to end slow; not too much into tha beat and I'm not really diggin' this "H-Town Savage sound" from you. I like your singin' on this and at tha 1:00 mark wit tha "smokin' good" and shit like that. I didn't like that ending (it just like cut off) to this mixtape. My Rating: 3.3

Overall: End Time: 12:44 AM. Pretty nice mixtape. I think I liked your mixtapes you dropped this year a lil' better than this though but this iz still some nice work from years ago. Only thing was towards tha 2nd ½ wit those slow type of songs and tha H-Town soundin'; that threw me off a lil'. Either way, you are that dude when it comes to this shit. Big Jay should like this review.
