Review #846: Box "LSU (Louisiana State Underdog) Vol. 2"

Reviewed on 3.03.2011 (Review #846)

Next up, my boy Box “LSU (Louisiana State Underdog) Vol. 2! Start Time: 11:11 AM | End Time: 11:32 AM

Quick Note: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion!! I only please myself wit my ratings!! I don’t care how lyrical you are! As long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much REALLY LOVE it as it’s considered “mindblowin’” when I hear it. Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song. Anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it.

01. “Power”
I’m assumin’ this iz gonna be a mixtape fulla jacked beats; lemme prepare myself… >>> At least you’re good at rappin’, so it ain’t too boring fa me. Ooh @ tha “pounds of marijuana” shit outta nowhere; go, Box! Nice job wit tha consistent rhymes! My Rating: 4.3

02. “Over”
Don’t really like when people rap on dis or this dude’s beats… >>> Good “I’m on tha Dean’s List” part; honored-Box, lol! Feelin’ tha Baton Rouge-soundin’ lyrics to dis, too. Tha rhymes are catchy as hell, too! My Rating: 4.2

03. “Blue, Yellow, Purple”
LOL! >>> SMH @ tha original hook except your part; could’ve done a betta job wit dat! Thought this would be a lil’ catchier but it’s not bad… My Rating: 3.7

04. “Out Tha Frame” Feat. Level
New song? >>> Ooh, EQ on tha beat—“Middle Finga Production!” LOL @ tha “Beat It” sample and how this sounds; interestin’… Ooh, Level on tha feature, soundin’ catchy as fuck, regardless if there’s no energy in his voice this time, lol! Tha hook’s catchy wit tha both of y’all; dumb shit, Box, ya feel me? LOL @ how you’re comin’ through on tha 2nd verse; crazy shit fa tha ladies, Box!! Keepin’ tha consistency goin’ wit tha 3rd verse; you definitely needed it, Box!! My Rating: 4.7

05. “Cutlass, Regal, Monte” Feat. Suge
>>> LOL, back ta tha jackerz, lol… I’m still likin’ your content, here. You know how ta make a song catchy, regardless of tha beat! Tha featured person ain’t too bad, either; sounds like he blends in wit you… My Rating: 3.8

06. “Girls Dem Suga”
>>> LOL, unlike all tha 2010 beats, you took it back ta 2000 wit dis classic (lol, no change in tha title, too) and when I started developin’ my music taste. “Ass like Minaj”? No, “tits like Kim,” Box, ya dig? Remember: we’re in 2000, right now! Very consistent wit all these rhymes!! My Rating: 4.1

½time: So far, you have an interestin’ mixtape here, even wit tha jacked beats!! You’re lookin’ at a 4.1, currently!

07. “Spread My Wings” Feat. Mouse On Tha Track & X-Fyle
LOL, glad this iz here! Iz this tha clean version? I played dis on my radio show when Big Fancy died, in honor of tha “wings” content! My Current Rating: 4.4

08. “Women Lie, Men Lie”
LOL again… >>> Thumbs up ta tha “Nirvana” line, lol. Not bad, here; too bad for tha original hook. My Rating: 3.5

09. “Swagga To Tha Ceiling” Feat. Badd Nooze
>>> An X-Fyle-produced track? Thought it was a Birdman song, at first, but it’s not bad for tha start. Ooh, “Badd Nooze wit (you)”? This should have improvement later on! This iz decent wit you rappin’; we’ll see if it picks up wit Badd Nooze! LOL, Lem on tha 2nd verse, doin’ his thang, helpin’ you out. Even though some of tha rhymes are typical, he gives dat extra touch to tha track. This may not be tha kinda song Spitta would be on, but his voice iz tight ta add to tha quality of tha song. Still a lil’ typical wit tha rhymes, even though they’re more X-rated. My Rating: 3.7

10. “Mill Ticket”
>>> LOL, sounds pretty catchy, here. I might’ve liked tha jacked songs from earlier in this mixtape a lil’ betta. But, you’re keepin’ tha rhymes comin’ wit dis, too. My Rating: 3.8
EDIT: Lookin’ at tha Word file attached and I found out dat Ceddy B produced dis!

11. “In Cold Blood”
Nice title… >>> Good rhymes; I like how you handlin’ dis beat! My Rating: 3.9

12. “Straight Up” Feat. Byou2ful
Produced by Tre Virdure, who’s known ta not really be for me at times. Looks like an N.O. connection… >>> Tha beat sounds a lil’ betta fa Tre, here. LOL, tha “straight up” almost sounded like Paula Abdul, lol; not bad, so far… You’re dedicated; pretty-good song… My Rating: 3.7

13. “Real Thang”
Endin’ it wit a Mouse production!! >>> Sounds like tha perspective I’d get wit dat “Top Notch” production by Joe. Because of tha anticipation from Mouse, I feel dat I should have more interest in dis… Tha lyrics are definitely nice; glad you do “keep it trill!” Not really too crazy on tha hook’s sample but it flows nice at tha same time. My Rating: 3.8

Overall: Of course, you know what it iz, Box! Nice job wit dis shit; keep doin’ ya thang!!

01. Intro
DJ Chill on tha intro; let’s see what he talkin’ ‘bout… >>> Kinda ehh for an intro; should be a beat in tha background… My Rating: N/A

02. “When I Get That Feelin’”
A Q-Red beat? What iz this about? >>> Doesn’t even sound like an original beat; sounds jacked. Ehh @ tha hook… Must’ve taken no more than 120 seconds to make dis beat… Tha 1st verse only decent… Tha 2nd verse iz tha same for me… Tha 3rd verse too… I think all tha verses just fit wit tha song. I dunno why I’m leavin’ so much feedback… My Rating: 3.1

03. “Who Am I” Feat. Roi Anthony
Tha feature iz on tha beat; what’ll this be like? >>> A lil’ betta here on tha production but not really a BR sound I would get into… Tha hook sounds like it’s good. Boring wit tha R&B 1st verse goin’ on here; sounded like tha song went downhill from tha hook. You sound boring on tha 2nd verse; I don’t need to hear anymore! My Rating: 3.3

04. “For Tha Night”
>>> Didn’t get to look at tha ID wit title/producer yet but it sounds pretty stale for a start. *Checks* Ceddy B did tha beat; this honestly could be betta… Tha verses are above average though for this kinda joint. My Rating: 3.2

05. “Understand Me”
X-Fyle on tha track. >>> How iz this considered a mixtape? Sounds more like a CD, especially since none of these producers have beat tags… Boring beat once again. This needs to be more catchy… Tha rhymes are good but this beat ain’t even close to good! My Rating: 2.8

06. “She’s Inboxicated”
>>> Although I like this title, I’m not really likin’ tha sampled music in most of tha tracks… Ceddy B iz tha one dat did this beat. Tha hook’s interestin’ here. Not bad verses either… My Rating: 3.6

½time: Just a 3.2 average CD rating so far. I’m not too big about certain R&B jointz, especially if it sounds like popular music…

07. “Groove With U (Remix)” Feat. Tre Virdure & Johnnie Domino
LOL, looks familiar…? *Checks* LOL, I was gonna check tha ’09 Johnnie Domino CD but it’s a few years back on his Vol. 1 CD. I guess I wasn’t too crazy about this… >>> “Remix?” I guess this iz newer than tha original then… Still sounds shitty for a Q-Red beat and all dat. LOL @ tha incorrect spellin’ of “Johnnie” as “Johnny” on tha ID. 1st verse iz Tre; borin’ for me wit tha singin’. Really not likin’ tha The-Dream-type singin’ too. Your verse’s aight. It’s more puke-material when I know dat it’s a Q-Red beat. Johnnie Domino has cool rhymes on tha 3rd verse. Too many “baby mommas” he has. My Rating: 3.5

08. “Baby Come Back”
Clever Soundz beat? Not likin’ this title! >>> Of course, a sample in tha beat… Tha hook may be cool but tha verses are kinda boring. I think tha 3rd verse sounds a lil’ betta though. My Rating: 3.3

09. “Put It On U” Feat. J.O.
Jor’dan & Ted beat; anything can happen… >>> I feel like it gets worse and worse wit newer producers on this CD. I expect this ta be tha worst song on here; let’s see. Damn, at least have tha feature sound like someone new instead of someone else, smh. Tha singin’ iz really gay for me and iz way too much… My Rating: 1.2

10. “That’s A Wrap”
Oh no, anotha Q-Red beat… You mean, “Wrap?” Unless it’s a creative title, let’s see… >>> Again wit this samplin’; not really anticipatin’ it but if this iz ‘pose to be Wham!/George Michael related, then that’s a plus. I’ll ask Q-Red about this one, lol. Tha content says “wrap” instead of “Rap” so I’ll fix it. Tha 1st verse’s cool; I think this iz my top-rated song on this CD. Tha 2nd verse’s good/not bad. I finally have betta interest in one of tha songs here… Although you quoted “Lil’ Cali” for an “on my shit”-type shit, I mainly quote my boy Yung Yola ‘cause that’s when dat title 1st blew up for me! My Rating: 4.3

11. “Taste U” Feat. Suge
Ceddy B on tha beat. I don’t know how tha transition’ll be… >>> More interestin’ here than typical songs on here; good… I’m likin’ tha beat start… For 5:32 on tha length, this iz fast? How many verses’ll fit? Tha hook’s interestin’; all about tha “tastin’,” lol! Tha descriptiveness for tha 1st verse’s pretty good… Tha 2nd verse’s keepin’ tha descriptiveness up… Not bad for tha 3rd verse too… LOL, a fade-out at :42 remainin’? Oh, you’re on a lil’ outro here. This outro sounds cool. My Rating: 3.8

12. “Head To The Sky”
Anotha Ceddy B beat but I’m not “goin’ through somethin’” so I don’t think I gon look forward ta dis… >>> Interestin’ dat it’s a fast beat; I think I may have interest… Good 1st verse on this. Oh no, not anotha sample for tha hook. Should’ve been original… Tha 2nd verse ain’t dat bad either… Tha 3rd verse defines “Nu$$ie gettin’ sprayed up,” so this iz definitely ’09. Too bad for all tha bullshit in ’09! My Rating: 3.5

Overall: Well, not really a CD for me. Tha ending did pick up though.

Rankings (according to my ratings):

11. “Put It On U” Feat. J.O. 1.2
