Review #856: Young Trayne "Junkie Medicine (Promethazine Edition)"

Reviewed on 3.04.2011 (Review #856)

Damn, I’m reviewin’ a lot of hot CDs!! This next one must be real hot ‘cause it’s a part of tha “Junkie Medicine” editions!! Tha newest installment to dat collection: Young Trayne “Junkie Medicine (Promethazine Edition)!!! Start Time: 11:02 AM | End Time: 11:40 AM

Quick Note: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion!! I only please myself wit my ratings!! I don’t care how lyrical you are! As long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much REALLY LOVE it as it’s considered “mindblowin’” when I hear it. Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song. Anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it.

01. “Let It Be Known”
Produced by: $hizz; lookin’ forward ta hearin’, especially wit him on tha beat!!! >>> Didn’t seem anticipated wit tha “Do Dat Dere”ish-type of intro but tha CD’s startin’ ta kickin’ in! “True Greed;” yup, they in tha buildin’! Damn, you seem real focused; very good wit tha consistency on dis intro track!! You’re definitely “(lettin’) it be known,” ya dig?!? Tha hook’s definitely true; nice job, here! My Rating: 4.2

02. “In The Streetz” Feat. $hizz
Produced by: $hizz; I have a feelin’ dis gon be tighter! >>> Likin’ tha intro; dis beat seems anticipatin’! Sounds like some catchy music, here; a different dose of “Junkie Medicine”, lol. Nice job wit all tha consistent shit you spit, ya dig? $hizz yea, lol, it’s $hizz on tha 3rd verse!! Dat voice iz entertainin’ as fuck!! He got shit on lock; thumbs up fa keepin’ it consistent wit tha rappin’ and tha beats, $hizz!! My Rating: 4.3

03. “Around My Way” Feat. Cash Flow, Doe & DatBoyKenny
Produced by: E-Motion; what gon go down here? >>> Oh, I rememba dis. Again, feelin’ tha familiar-soundin’ beat and how y’all do ya thang on dis one! Good collaboration; lots of consistent shit lies in tha hands of Young Trayne and his collaborators!! My Current Rating: 4.5

04. “Prisoner 2 My Grind” Feat. Yung Slab
Produced by: Lil’ One The Champ; keep tha collaborations comin’!! >>> Not really into tha beat start but tha rhymes should keep dis one comin’ along. Speakin’ of comebacks, let’s hear what Yung Slab has ta offer on tha 2nd verse… Again, comin’ through wit dat tightness; I think he reached 21, now? He’s officially ready ta be noticed, and, to fuck wit tha big dawgs! “So fly, I could piss up on tha stars”? Damn, tightness!! Feelin’ tha attitude!!! Tha rhymes are definitely tight but why did Lil’ One have ta make a hook outta a stupid sample? Not really a Louisiana-soundin’ song but tha rhymes, especially from Slab, are great! My Rating: 4.4

05. “Roll Or Get Rolled Over (Remix)” Feat. Jimi Jump & Lil’ One The Champ
Produced by: Mouse On Tha Track; ooh, a remix! Tha collab looks tight! >>> Still sounds tight; dat beat and hot hook iz still what’s up!! I liked tha rhymes on tha 1st version betta; don’t need ta random shout out people on dis shit ‘cause dis shit was hot enough wit tha title! Switchin’ it up, let’s hear what Jimi has ta offer… Okay, good shit from tha jump, lol! Nothin’ but consistentness all tha way through!!! Real glad you had him on dis—uh oh, Lil’ One’s up next; sometimes I don’t even know who’s next wit so many people ‘round here. Consistent rhymes; I’ll leave it at dat. My Rating: 4.6

06. “She’s Nasty” Feat. $hizz
Produced by: $hizz; let’s get it!! >>> I like dat, “shit!!,” beat tag intro; I like ta say, “$hizz…” when announcin’ him on tha air so people don’t think I’m sayin’, “shit,” lol. Damn, forgot $hizz iz warped in this stupid gay-ass, cunt-ass era we live in wit this stupid music out, smh. Could’ve been a good radio song but no, not anymore. I really don’t have ta say anything else ‘bout dis… My Rating: 2.4

07. “Leave ‘Em 4 Da Reaper” Feat. TerrorMontana & Teflon Pit
Produced by: Lil’ Freddy; thought dat was Terror a.k.a. Cheez of Down Bad on tha feature; dis looks like it gon be tight! >>> Nice beginning, even though it took a while. Tha hook’s definitely nice; gotta luv a topic like dis! Tha 1st verse iz only aight for me… Ooh, very anticipatin’ Pit on tha 2nd verse; he always comes through wit some of tha hottest street shit in tha 225! Really, he’s anotha reason why I luv Baton Rouge soooooooooo much!!! Wait a second, who’s on tha 3rd verse? Hope I didn’t confuse anyone ‘cause tha 3rd verse doesn’t sound like Pit… My Rating: 4.5

08. “Follow Me”
Produced by: $hizz; “shit,” lol!! >>> Ooh, hot soundin’ in tha beat and err-thang goin’ on here!! I like tha “a lotta weed” shit in tha hook; of course, dumb shit!! You doin’ a nice job, here; prolly could’ve been only three minutes long if it’s just you ‘cause most of tha time, your collaborators make tha songs long. Either way, thumbs up ta dis shit!! My Rating: 4.5

09. “Break ‘Em Off”
Produced by: Doe; lol, Jon Doe on tha beat; let’s hear what he got ta offer on tha beat fa you! >>> Sounds good; almost had a Youngbloodz perspective wit tha title, here! Nice job wit how tha hook sounds, once again; you doin’ ya thang wit Doe! LOL, it sounds like somethin’, like a laser, iz shootin’ consistently in tha air while this beat’s playin’, lol; interestin’… Nice job wit how you comin’ through on dis shit, too! My Rating: 4.3

½time: Other than #6, this iz a very hot CD, right here!!! So far, you’re at a 4.2; not bad for a really bad song bein’ on here!

10. “I Can Get Dumb” Feat. Doe & DatBoyKenny
Produced by: Q-Red. >>> Thought dat was $hizz on tha hook fa a second, lol! My bad, Doe doin’ tha damn thang on tha hook! You’re on tha 1st verse and lol, a lil’ too much in tha intro? I should be shouted out, right? A lil’ too many shout outs, overall. DBK’s on tha 2nd verse and he’s doin’ a pretty-good job; didn’t realize he had an attitude like dis! My Rating: 4.4

11. “Ready & Willing” Feat. Teflon Pit & Big Blaze
Produced by: JayTheTalent; what’ll this be like wit dis collab? >>> Tha beat intro’s pretty serious! Ooh, tha rhymes are off tha chain!!! Teflon Pit doin’ a real nice job, here; very consistent!!! LOL, no hook? I really like how dis beat sounds, either way! Must be Big Blaze on tha 2nd verse? Some of y’all almost have tha same voices… Kinda good but shouldn’t worry about how other people are spittin’; know dat y’all tha shit! Nope, dat was you on tha 2nd verse ‘cause Big Blaze’s on tha 3rd verse, comin’ through wit some hot shit!! Really likin’ how he reppin’ fa tha “Bloc Munstaz”, to tha fullest, at all times!! My Rating: 4.6

12. “Neva Been A Bitch” Feat. Big Blaze
Produced by: Rated R; let’s hear it! >>> Even though it’s Jeezy, I’m likin’ tha sample on tha hook; sounds like it works fa y’all. Good 1st verse but I’m startin’ ta get sick of all these shout outs throughout tha verses. Big Blaze comin’ through wit dat tight shit fa a big dude! Tha big dudes always intimidate tha fake and err-body out there; gotta support tha big dudes! My Rating: 4.4

13. “Hold It Down” Feat. Doe
Produced by: K Beatz. >>> Weak start fa me; what a way to lose consistency. Sorry, low interest on dis one. A lot of shit goin’ on here… Doe’s on tha 2nd verse and for some reason, his voice stands out more for me. Not dat dis makes a difference fa me ‘cause it doesn’t… My Rating: 2.6

14. “Counterfeit”
Produced by: Doe; likin’ dis title and Doe bein’ on tha beat! Even though it’s usually “I-before-E”, this title’s “E-before-I”. >>> Tha beat’s real nice, here, wit its pace; feelin’ it! Tha rappin’ you bringin’ to tha table’s good, too! Doe should’ve rapped on dis; he prolly would’ve had some car-race-type shit dat would’ve sounded nice! Tha content iz nice, too; good shit right here!! My Rating: 4.5

15. “Beef Wit Me” Feat. DatBoyKenny & Teflon Pit
Produced by: Killa B; thought I saw Killa B from somewhere; prolly was on some really-anticipatin’ CD back in tha day! >>> Of course, it had to’ve been ‘cause dis production’s hotter than lava when it comes ta tha underground!!! Ooh, tha 1st verse’s so tight wit all tha shit goin’ on!!! Tha hook definitely explains why y’all are bound ta intimidate people; it’s all in tha “don’t fuck wit me” attitude, ya dig? Tha 2nd verse’s pretty tight, too! Thumbs up fa y’all continuin’ ta bring dat consistent shit!!! You’re on tha 3rd verse and yea, had ta make dis shit even hotter!!! My Rating: 4.7

16. “Pour Me Up”
Produced by: Beat Geekz; don’t know dem so let’s see how dis gon sound… >>> Sounds good; almost sounds like jacked/online producers? LOL @ tha “I’m on my gay shit” part; you definitely “(showin’ yo) ass” to tha streetz ‘cause of how tight you keep tha consistent shit comin’ along, especially wit all tha people you fuck wit!! Tha beat almost sounds like dat “2 AM” beat dat Tim did fa Jeezy. Tha hook’s soundin’ much betta; definite plus ta dis song!! My Rating: 4.0

17. “I Know Who Ridin’ Wit Me” Feat. $hizz & Big Blaze
Produced by: $hizz; hope there’s no A-Tune in dis one! >>> Tha beat’s startin’ ta sound hot; don’t destroy my anticipation! Damn, tha beat intro sounds long… Oh, I hear tha sample in tha hook, now; sounds good… Afta 53 seconds, my dawg $hizz iz on tha 1st verse, and I’m feelin’ what he bringin’ to tha table! I liked dat “Zion City” part; gotta represent tha tight hoods in BR! Here you are on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through wit some hot shit, too… Time ta hear some of dat big dawg, Big Blaze, comin’ through on tha 3rd verse wit his tightness. It’s all about reppin’ Glen Oaks and buku areas of tha Rouge to tha fullest! My Rating: 4.2

18. “Sometimes I Wonder” Feat. Anonomous
Produced by: Soul Food; because of tha unknown people, I’m not lookin’ forward. >>> No “wonder” why this iz an endin’ song. Ooh, I like tha Anonomous gurl; she sounds like tha undaground and music I’d like from tha Early 2000s! Glad she held tha hook down and that it wasn’t some stupid sample! I don’t have much interest in what you’re spittin’ in dis, unfortunately. Remember: dis wasn’t my kinda song from tha beginning; Anonomous only made it a lil’ interestin’ wit tha hook. My Rating: 3.2

Overall: Nice job wit everything, everyone, and everything (again) throughout dis CD!! Even though I liked “The Pharmacy” betta, you always know how ta come through wit a lotta great people outta BR/Glen Oaks/Zion City/etc.!!

Review #197: Yung Slab "Da Second Quarter (Demo Disc)"

Reviewed on 5.06.2009 (Review No. 197)

FrankieThaLuckyDog, back up in this piece, ya dig. I just got tha word from my mom that she gon be goin’ to Long Island, NY on Saturday, so I finna go wit her, and stay down there. Only thang iz I’m not gonna be able to have access to make commercials after Friday ‘cause I gon be hours away from my college. Good thing about this review iz that thanx to Baton Rouge talk, and especially tha word “bruh,” I’m deciding to review this Yung Slab promo disc before a bunch otha CDs, so thumbs up to D, his manager. Now then, since my time iz limited, here goes my review for Yung Slab “Da 2nd Quarter (Demo Disc)”! Only moments away from tha actual disc, so wit 16 tracks, I’mma see what Slab has evolved into! Start Time: 6:46 PM | End Time: 8:17 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me or have auto-tune in your vocals, I’m not buyin’ it!

© 2009 CD Review (Review #197) reviewed on 5.06.2009 by FrankieThaLuckyDog.

01. “Intro”
Yes, you got yourself an intro here! I’m DEFINITELY lookin’ forward to what made this disc have an intro!! >>> What’s up wit tha first second? It sounds like a ½ second? Shit ‘chea, there’s rappin’ in tha intro, as well as tha beat bein’ KICK-ASS!! Thanx 4 you and D callin’ me a few nights ago; you know I luv talkin’ to y’all. I just been too busy wit college and shit, but I shook back! Great “avalanche” part (twice) before tha 1:00 mark! DEFINITELY a GREAT intro, as well as it havin’ a HOT-ASS beat!! I hope tha beats stay like this throughout tha whole disc!! BTW, right at 1:43, it sounded like it made a lil’ skip sound in tha beat. My Rating: 4.3

02. “Sin Side”
Iz this tha “sin” (meaning “bad”) side of you? I don’t know exactly what to expect, but wit your manager on your side, I’m sure to expect good!! >>> A jacked beat (and in this case, I thought it was gonna be “Sittin’ Sidewayz” beat, lol). It’s ova tha UGK “Da Game Been Good To Me” beat, and you did a good job on that hook; nice and catchy! You used tha title in a good way at tha end of tha hook. Yes, you said, “these niggaz feminine.” I’m glad you said that ‘cause I just got done listenin’ to Terror a.k.a. Cheez (Down Bad)’s “Terror N Da Ghetto” CD, and he said somethin’ about people bein’ “feminine,” so I can totally agree wit both you and Terror! Good 1st verse as you sound like you’re havin’ a good time on this beat. Tha 2nd verse sounded pretty good too. Good outro too. My Rating: 3.9

03. “My Appearance (Remix) (Radio Version)”
Note: After hearin’ No. 16, I reviewed this one first. This iz really tha Radio Version, and at first, due to tha ID error on No. 16, I didn’t realize that was tha dirty version!
Sorry to turn negative on you, but I don’t like what this remix turned into at all. No less a conversation wit your manager about it (back on 3.24.2009 at my college) had made tha conversations on hold ‘til a few nights ago (LOL @ tha curse effect, lol). Right before I got it, I put tha original version in rotation wit me (which replaced “Say What Up”). But what I was expecting when I first heard tha intro was it was gonna be more digital sounding, but tha beat part that I LUVED vanished outta it. I don’t get it… And your manager said he was, “makin’ it for tha clubs for people to dance to.” I disagree wit him on that ‘cause your music iz REAL HOOD. I remember when you were on tha phone wit me for like tha 1st/2nd time, you were like, “I ain’t makin’ no pussy-ass shit,” so when I heard that, I considered you raw and grimy for your age. I don’t feel that your music should target people dancin’ in tha clubs; it should target tha trappers, and anyone else in tha hood bumpin’ dat underground shit in BR. I feel that even hearin’ “Say What Up” in tha club would sound REAL GREAT ‘cause of its vibe, and tha style it’s bringin’ to tha game. >>> LOL, it’s clean? I accidently saw No. 16 bein’ tha “clean version”; 2 clean versions ain’t called for, lol! I like your “Final Fantasy message” line though in tha 1st verse. I’m no less playin’ Final Fantasy III on my computer right now. Really, what iz that beat? It’s so repetitive, and NOTHIN’ goin’ on!! At least tha otha one was SO DARK and caught my attention wit its GREATNESS! Nothin’ really to say about tha 2nd verse, and tha hook ain’t tha same without tha original beat. And this was a Trill Ent. affiliated person that produced this? Why couldn’t he add shit? You should’ve had like a Mouse production or some shit if you knew you were gonna fix this up. Oh wow, tha beat got GOOD at 3:28. Out of 3:42, it took 3:28 to catch onto me? That’s only 14 seconds remaining. Sorry, but clean version iz a deduction to tha rating as well (especially since you have it on here again). Look at tha rating difference: My Current Rating: Original Version: 4.9 | Remix: 1.9

04. “Supawoman”
Not another minus, right? I don’t expect a title like this from you… Although Alicia Keys and Amanda Diva handled tha same title, let’s see if you can handle it. Low anticipation level… >>> Oh no, you “on some otha shit” for this? Now I know somethin’ might be wrong… SMH, Yung Slab goin’ Pop? No!!! You sound like tha Pop/R&B Mike Jones on tha 1st verse. Unknown Joe-type featured singer in tha hook? LOL @ tha explicit lyrics in a song like this! I just find it as a weird mix. I thought it ended at 2:29, but tha hook came back twice. It could’ve ended before tha 3:00 mark, but this was not needed for a 3:52 length. I actually like tha beat outro (you got some good beat outros), and I think this song would be a GREAT song for someone who’s tryna have a hit on there hands that’s NOT from Baton Rouge. As for you, this iz ABSOULTELY NOT FOR YOU and it’s NOT FOR ME either, especially in this age of Pop Rap music/me turnin’ 21 soon! Hey, I might’ve liked this when I was 13/14. Although I may not like, I may feature it on my girl Alicia’s monthly CDs I make her; she might like it since she’s a “supawoman”. My Rating: 2.2

05. “Strictly Business”
Only 2:20 on tha length (maybe you should’ve swapped lengths?), so I don’t know how much I’ll squeeze into this one… >>> I hope we shake back!! Good “pants, mane they sag on they own” part as soon as it hit 0:15! Beat a lil’ slow, but it sounds better to hear on you. Ooh, tha beat sounds great at 0:47! Great “community” part goin’ on during that great beat part! Sounds like you’re rappin’ pretty tight here; givin’ it all you got in only 2.33 minutes! Great 1st verse from you right here on this shit! Great, a 2nd verse! Too bad “too many get tha name fucked up.” How can someone fuck your name up? I’m “strictly” fam wit you, so you know I’ll always rememba yo name. Nice 2nd verse and it was not stoppin’ until you stopped it, lol. My Rating: 4.1

06. “Everytime U C Me (Remix)” (Brister Boy a.k.a. Yung Choppa Feat. Yung Slab)
That’s cool that this song made it. A longer length? *Checks* Yup, 36 seconds longer. This iz Brister Boy’s single, so I finna switch those ID positions from Feat. BB to BB Feat. YS. As well as that, ain’t this a remix too? >>> Oh no, anotha fixed song? I’m scared, AHH!!! Tha intro sounds better, and still has that piano! Okay, hearin’ tha hook now. Tha lyrics are better, and tha beat sounds good while bein’ fucked up, so that’s a thumbs up. Even BB sounds different a lil’. I’m feelin’ what he got to say on this, so thumbs up for bringin’ him into this! There are more elements added to this unlike tha remix to “My Appearance”. Glad Brister Boy’s “pants saggin’ off his ass;” gotta show tha saggerz luv. Yes, Slab, you’re on tha 2nd verse, and it had to start off GREAT wit “smokin’ clovers.” I’m guessin’ “smokin’ clovers” gets you lucky ‘cause on my logo, I got a 4-leaf clover chain, and it brings me luck. That’s ‘cause I’m FrankieThaLuckyDog, lol. Good job, Slab, you did yo thang on this shit. I’m still enjoyin’ tha sounds of Brister on this shit. Yes, he on tha 3rd verse! Again, startin’ off wit a GREAT 3rd verse “smokin’ them blunts,” and even shoutin’ out “Baton Rouge” too! Good shit, Brister. I wonder what Brister thinks of me? I neva got to talk to him yet… I’ll have to see what D has to say. Good remix/updated version, so I’ll give this credit. I still luv tha original version though. My Rating: Original Version: 4.3 | Remix: 4.4
^ LOL, better 1st listen on tha remix than current rating on tha original! I guess you found tha correct way to make a remix!

07. “A Million Days I Kno”
Huh? What’s this one? >>> Anotha unexpected start. I thought it was gonna blow my mind at first, but I like it. Tha vibe reminds me of Eminem & Dido’s “Stan”? Kinda… At least it’s not soft. Great 1st verse and what you said. Iz this a jacked song? Like, it sounds so random to be a mega plus for me! What’s that sample? Tha female on tha sample actually sounds good ‘cause usually, female samples sound so gay/annoying/fucked up. Ooh, a ROUGH VOCAL start to tha 2nd verse!! Sounds like you exposin’ sum shit wit tha anger in your voice here! Great 2nd verse, and hearin’ tha hook again, and it sounds like some Dance/Trance/Techno vocals, only with a Hip-Hop beat. Glad you had tha sample continue to play, as well as have a nice beat outro at tha end, as always! What was that ending (tha lil’ vocal at 3:58) sayin’ “think we’ve seen enough”? REAL mysterious here, and I’m really feelin’ it!! My Rating: 4.3

08. “Wat We Been ‘Bout” Feat. K Flame
A lot of new shit for me, which I appreciate it, lol. Yeah, “wat” have you “been ‘bout” since “Da First Quarter”? >>> Oh yeah, I remember that beat, and I remember tha song now; my bad for forgettin’. You forgot tha “Feat. K Flame” on tha mp3. Once again: Great beat intro, as it’s pretty old (where I can’t think of what it iz right now). Wow, you and your jointz: they have ALL GREAT starts wit these hooks! Great hook start to this shit!! I think that’s K Flame on tha 1st verse, and I’m glad he “’bout that murder shit.” He gettin’ that cash, regardless. That was a real nice 1st verse! Wow, checkin’ out tha hook again, and it’s CRAZY wit all that consistent set of words on tha 2nd ½ of tha verse! Up, you’re on tha 2nd verse… Yeah, now I can tell, easily. Sounds like you better, and just deliverin’ that RAWNESS!! I like tha “bodies come out” part; that continues tha RAWNESS of this shit!! REAL NICE way you ended your verse wit tha “eatin’ off a dirty plate” part; my God, you’re FUCKIN’ FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!! To add to this: LOL @ no Ya Boy Earl on this one! My Current Rating: 4.4

½time: Well, a lil’ scary start, but it picked up. My ratings of you on this mixtape seemed like they caught up, and I have a feelin’ tha average rating at tha end gon reflect tha more positive ratings! Keep it up ‘cause you SO GRIMY, and I’m SO FUCKIN’ GLAD, WIT A PASSION, TO DO SHIT FOR YOU AND YOUR MANAGER!!! I’m here all day, so whateva you need, holla at me, fa sho!! Average CD rating currently: 3.6 (later pushed up to 3.7 due to an ID error)

09. “Dey Hatin’ On Me” Feat. K Flame & Dog
Iz Dogg Dog Da Cutthroata, or someone different? Good length (4:35), good title, and most importantly, can I have a good beat? >>> A tag in tha intro… Sounds like a good beat, so good! I heard “Dog Ent.,” so it iz tha same Dog. Yeah, his name has one “g” in it. I didn’t expect tha female in tha hook… You’re startin’ tha verse off here, and it sounds like you goin’ hard, especially wit tha “tryna hold me down like dat water wit an anchor clip” line; MEGA THUMBS UP!! Tha 2nd verse here iz comin’ from K Flame, still deliverin’ that sickness!! Great “sneeze—achoo!” part, lol! Definitely feelin’ his verse too; good shit! I don’t feel tha need for that random female in tha hook though. It sounds like tha hook sounds all mixed up. Good Dog verse (3rd verse). Am I allowed to say somethin’ about his verse? He ‘pose to send me his shit in tha mail, and it’s currently 2 months of me waitin’ for that shit. Yeah, sadly, I always have to make tha 1st move of sayin’ somethin’, so good job. My Rating: 4.2

10. “Shittin’ On U Niggas”
LOL @ tha title error again! Remember: “en” don’t belong in “shittin’” ‘cause there ain’t no way of “shitten”, lol. That’s only for words like “fallen” (which iz considered that it occurred already, not that it’s occurrin’ (like “fallin’”). Anyway, anotha previously heard joint so, here’s what I said: I easily, for some reason, knew it wasn’t gonna be a 2006 beat; it’s 2008 as it’s Shawty Lo’s “Foolish” beat. I like that “4 words: ‘fuck you, pay me!’” part! Off to a GREAT start wit that hook (including what I quoted)! Good “Captain Crunch” line in tha 1st verse; great first verse! Ooh, when you said tha title, it sounded RAW! LOL @ you, “not fuckin’ wit dat skateboard shit;” me neither. I neva fucked wit that shit as I couldn’t ride on a skateboard for longer than a few centimeters, lol. Great 2nd verse as well on this shit! To add to this: Just luv your rappin’!! *Adds 0.1 to tha current rating* My Current Rating: 4.3

11. “Misunderstood”
Anotha repeat, sadly one that’s under-4.0. And, I’m glad you, “neva focus on a quick vacation,” when it comes to makin’ it. That’s good shit, especially when it comes to makin’ quality music! To add to this: I feel this one slightly better, so I’m gonna add 0.1 again. My Current Rating: 3.9

12. “I Kno U Like Wat U C”
Gotta luv tha way your manager ID’s tha tracks (wit tha “U” and “C”’s, as well as tha “Kno” and “Wat”s; he tha shit)!! Anyway, when I first heard this, I didn’t really have any feedback, so I don’t know what I’m gonna say when I rehear it… >>> Actually, good start. I like tha original beat, and that hook. Sounds like consistent rappin’ in tha 1st verse, so thumbs up. I do “like wat I see.” Ooh, “a recession could teach a lesson.” If you throw that in there outta nowhere, you know you ain’t fuckin’ around wit bullshit! At 2:57, tha hook sounded like it shifted off-beat a lil’, but at tha end of it, it went back to normal. My Current Rating: 3.9

13. “Say What Up”
I didn’t look at tha title yet, just looked at tha 3:18 on tha length. I KNOW it’s “Say What Up”, right? *Checks* Correct! Wow, now you’re really boostin’ your ratings, lol! I’m guessin’ this gon be Ya Boy Earlless? This one of tha only ones I wanted him to stay on ‘cause when I showed my girl Alexia (at my college) tha commercial, when Ya Boy Earl screamed “LIVEN PROOF ENT.!!” in tha beginning, it shocked her, and eva since then, this song/that part from Ya Boy Earl reminds me of her, so thumbs up to his screamin’!!! Here goes my first reaction on it: …It sounds like a Baton Rouge type of beat wit that whistlin’. I like your lil’ talkin’ intro; that shit was tight. This sounds original, and it looks like I’m FUCKIN’ LOVIN’ as soon as tha hook came in!! Great formula to start off wit tha hooks!! Damn, you sound like Young Ready on this shit, fa real!! This makes me REAL ANTICIPATED to hear more of this!! Yes, 2:21 left on this shit (since it’s 3:18)!! I like tha “pyrex pot” and “arm & hammer” part. Damn, you rappin’ CRAZY on this shit! I’m glad you “so addicted to tha scale.” You ARE “sicker than you sound!” I’m glad your “swag ain’t neva agin’” ‘cause it seems like it payin’ off on this shit! VERY, VERY GOOD 1st verse and GREAT 2nd verse!! That FUCKIN’ HOOK; MY GOD!!!! CRAZY!!!!!! I love tha “say ‘what up, what up’!” part! Shit, only 2 verses? To add to this: THA REAL BEAT STYLE THAT I LUV!!! LOL @ tha beat outro this time, Earlless. Now can be Alexialess in tha reminder. Because I liked “My Appearance” more now (tha original version), tha current rating for this drops by 0.1, as well as it droppin’ anotha 0.1 ‘cause of no Ya Boy Earl. It’s all good ‘cause this still looks like tha top rated song on here! My Current Rating: 4.7
EDIT: Currently, this song has 95 spins wit me. If it gets 5 more, then in January 2010, I’mma send you a *CERTIFIED CLASSIC* award for it!!

14. “I Want U”
Anotha repeat song… I see wit my original rating bein’ a 4.0 that it wasn’t too bad for tha title… Lemme look at what I originally said: I don’t know tha beat, but it sounds pretty nice. …That was a NICE verse, and I like how you ended it wit “clean plates,” just like one of tha other jointz you did, you ended it wit “dirty plates.” My Current Rating: 4.0

15. “Attention”
New joint? *Checks* Yup, and it’s even shorter than tha last joint (last joint: 2:10; this: 2:05). How much “attention” can you bring towards my brain wit this one? >>> LMAO @ tha “Say What Up” sample! Tha beat CAUGHT MY “ATTENTION”!! Wow, what a GREAT near-ending to tha mixtape, lol!! GREAT “my life a different chapter, you steadly flippin’ tha pages” part in tha hook!! Wow, GREAT start to tha 1st verse wit tha “dagger” and “Jigg City” part!! Holy shit, impressive shit here!! You and your manager know tha shit I look for, and I’m glad y’all surprised me at tha end!! GREAT shit, especially when it continued to go to tha ending!! Shit, this was just a freestyle? HOPEFULLY you extend it!! My Rating: 4.6

16. “My Appearance (Remix)”
LOL, I can’t believe you would end it tha EXACT way No. 3 iz! >>> I made sure to listen for a joke, but no, ID error!! This tha dirty version, lol! So then, I’ll pretend I reviewed this version (instead of tha Radio Version), and I’ll boost tha rating up 0.5 (‘cause that’s what I originally took off). See No. 3 for tha review!

Overall: Well, I reviewed tha whole demo, lol! Glad to see a bunch of new jointz for a short amount of time (since it was December 2008 when tha 1st one came out). All those 4.0+ ratings slipped in, and made me real glad. Keep tha potential up, and LISTEN to what I’m rating!! Time for me to eat dinner…

Review #160: Yung Slab "Da First Quarter (Hosted by Ya Boy Earl)"

Reviewed on 12.18.2008 (Review No. 160)

Watz good in tha hood today? This ya boy FrankieThaLuckyDog, at my rappin' granny's right now, 'bout to deliver anotha review, ya dig! This time, it's for Baton Rouge underground rapper Yung Slab, and his mixtape, "Da First Quarter." Tha mixtape iz hosted by my boy Ya Boy Earl. I finna give him a call when I finish this shit. We'll see how long/quick it takes me to do this review, but I'm hoping to really like it. As wit Louisiana peeps, especially Baton Rouge peeps, I wanna hear lots of your own beats on this shit! Hopefully it's real good, so without further or do, here goes my review for Yung Slab "Da First Quarter (Hosted by Ya Boy Earl)"! Also, I'm gonna say this on every review I do for a while: FOR ANYONE READIN' THIS: Go check out my brand new music video, "Change Tha World," featuring Tha Wennipearl (my cousin Jen)!! It's a great song (written and produced by me) and a REAL GREAT music video (directed and 100% edited by me)! | Start Time: 11:06 AM | Video Game Playing: Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (for Super Nintendo)

If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating.

01. "Fresh Off The Ground"
Looks like this could be some tight shit by tha title! *Crosses fingers for an original beat* >>> Earl sounds like he in a GREAT mood to host this shit! I knew this was not gonna be an original beat (tha beat iz Young Jeezy's "Ya Dig"). Luckily, Yung Slab sounds like he good enough for me to like him, jacked beat or not! I like that hook, as it was good for tha hood, and to be catchy. Tha 1st verse was nice, especially that "a Baton Rouge nigga, smokin' killa, poppin' pain…" part! Oh wow, tha hook iz FIRE! Gotta luv when tha title iz said! This iz DEFINITELY some tight shit! Tha 2nd verse was pretty nice, even though it sounded a lil' shorter than tha 1st verse. I'm glad Earl was talkin' at tha end as well. What's wit tha 8 seconds of silence at tha end? Either way, I'm HELLLLLLLLA impressed from Yung Slab so far (off of one joint)!!! He goin' crazy than a ma'fucka on tha mic! Dyin' to see what's next!!! My Rating: 4.6

02. "Breathin'"
That looks like an error on tha tracklisting… It looks like it should be "Breathin'" wit an "i". But enough about that, lemme get into tha joint and see how much fire he "breathin'" into tha mic!! >>> I thought it was gonna be Fabolous "Breathe" beat, but nope, "Born N Raised" beat. GREAT START wit tha hook! It iz "Breathin'." I'm likin' tha "barettas" part; that shit was nice! CRAZY 1st verse, and tha hook iz off tha chain!!! Tha 2nd verse was real good too; can't get enough of that hook!! Five seconds of silence at tha end… I guess there's unknown silence at tha end of each joint. My Rating: 4.4

03. "Shittin' On U Niggas"
LOL @ tha "e" error again (where it says, "shitten"). That title looks like this shit gon be CRA-ZY!!! I wonder what beat you rappin' on… Hmm… Since tha last 2 were 2006, I'mma say… Purple City "Trap" (lol, how random of a guess). >>> I easily, for some reason, knew it wasn't gonna be a 2006 beat; it's 2008 as it's Shawty Lo's "Foolish" beat. I like that "4 words: 'fuck you, pay me!'" part! Off to a GREAT start wit that hook (including what I quoted)! Good "Captain Crunch" line in tha 1st verse; great first verse! Ooh, when you said tha title, it sounded RAW! LOL @ you, "not fuckin' wit dat skateboard shit;" me neither. I neva fucked wit that shit as I couldn't ride on a skateboard for longer than a few centimeters, lol. Great 2nd verse as well on this shit! Yes, Ya Boy Earl on tha outro of this shit! "Gas prices goin' up to $10?" Good thing they're only $1.79 right now where I'm at (Long Island, NY/Northeast PA). Great shit again! My Rating: 4.2

04. "Know Wat We Been 'Bout" Feat. K Flame
Even though tha "wat" in tha title iz okay ('cause of slang terms), tha "no" iz wrong, as it should be "know." Anyway, looks like we got a feature for tha 1st time, K Flame. I wonder how he gon sound? It's a competition now, lol! >>> Great beat intro, as it's pretty old (where I can't think of what it iz right now). Wow, you and your jointz; they have ALL GREAT starts wit these hooks! Great hook start to this shit!! I think that's K Flame on tha 1st verse, and I'm glad he "'bout that murder shit." He gettin' that cash, regardless. That was a real nice 1st verse! Wow, checkin' out tha hook again, and it's CRAZY wit all that consistant set of words on tha 2nd ½ of tha verse! Up, you're on tha 2nd verse… Yeah, now I can tell, easily. Sounds like you better, and just deliverin' that RAWNESS!! I like tha "bodies come out" part; that continues tha RAWNESS of this shit!! REAL NICE way you ended your verse wit tha "eatin' off a dirty plate" part; my God, you're FUCKIN' FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Earl on tha check-in at tha end; that's watz good. For some reason, when I saw his default pic on his Myspace, he doesn't sound tha way he looks (in my opinion). In fact, he's remindin' me of DJ Khaled wit tha high-leveled voice, and a lil' bit of Big Tigger, especially when he said, "man," at tha end of this shit. That brought back some Rap City: Tha Basement memories. It's all good though 'cause Earl hostin' a HOT-ASS mixtape right chea!! My Rating: 4.4

05. "Say What Up"
Maybe I might guess tha beat easily on this. Iz this T.I.'s "What Up, What's Haapnin'" beat? >>> Not T.I., but shit, it sounds like a Baton Rouge type of beat wit that whistlin'. I like your lil' talkin' intro; that shit was tight. This sounds original, and it looks like I'm FUCKIN' LOVIN' as soon as tha hook came in!! Great formula to start off wit tha hooks!! Damn, you sound like Young Ready on this shit, fa'real! This makes me REAL ANTICIPATED to hear more of this!! Yes, 2:21 left on this shit (since it's 3:23)!! I like tha "pyrex pot" and "arm & hammer" part. Damn, you rappin' CRAZY on this shit! I'm glad you "so addicted to tha scale." You ARE "sicker than you sound!" I'm glad your "swag ain't neva agin'" 'cause it seems like it payin' off on this shit! VERY, VERY GOOD 1st verse and GREAT 2nd verse!!! That FUCKIN' HOOK; MY GOD!!!! CRAZY!!!!!! I love tha "say 'what up, what up'!" part! Shit, only 2 verses? I like how Earl spelled your name out at tha end, and talked at tha end. This EASILY has to be tha best joint on here!! My Rating: 4.9

06. "Cell Phone Lightin' Up"
LOL @ that 3rd word, how it's spelled. "Lightening?" So, your "cell phone" iz thunderin' up? LOL, naw, I'm just playin'. It should be "lightin'" 'cause that's what it be doin', ESPECIALLY since you seem like you CRAZY in dem BR streetz, ya dig! I wonder what to expect here… >>> "Chicken and watermellon?" LOL @ tha "Shawty Say" beat? Good thing Lil' Wayne ain't on tha hook. Tha beat may throw me off, but, that hook, once again, iz on some tight shit! I'm GLAD you got that Baton Rouge voice in you on this shit, again! Great 1st verse, and I'm listenin' to tha 2nd verse right now… Yeah, you STILL deliverin' that fire!!! GREAT 2nd verse, and I love tha "kush, gotta get it by tha pound" part in tha hook! I'm glad your "cell phone lightin' up!" I started to like this better towards tha end, especially after hearin' tha hook a 3rd time! Good check-in Earl! Slab on his TIGHT shit wit his life!! My Rating: 4.1

½time: My God, and I criticize jacked beats SO much, especially if it's tha first joint!! Yung Slab, you have PROVEN that you can HANDLE jacked beats, EASILY!! You are SOOOOOOOOOOOOO FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKIN' TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!! I HOPE tha next ½ of tha mixtape has that SAME, or BETTER, feel to it!!! Oh, and this tha "½time" now, lol.

07. "Misunderstood"
I'm predictin' Lil' Wayne's "Don'tgetit" beat, but then again, I like how most of tha beats you be rappin' on were up-tempo anthems… >>> What iz that "Chicken & Watermellon" shit? BTW, I got tha beat correct for tha 1st time on here, lol. I don't really like how it took 46 seconds to get into your verse… It's about time, now, to check out your verses on this shit! Sounds like some REAL shit on tha 1st verse! Not bad on tha 1st verse. This shit a lil' too slow, especially since tha hook iz only tha sample that Wayne used on this joint. Now, I'm hearin' tha 2nd verse… I'm glad you a "street nigga/rapper." And, I'm glad you, "neva focus on a quick vacation," when it comes to makin' it. That's good shit, especially when it comes to makin' quality music! No Earl at tha end? A lil' slow start to tha 2nd ½… My Rating: 3.8

08. "Pushin'"
I would hope it's tha C-Ride/Dre beat from 2007, but knowing my intentions, it's prolly gonna be tha Bun B one, and I'm not really into hearin' that one, again. Let's find out… >>> Damn, 2 correct beats guessed in a row. What's tha "chicken & watermellon" thing? Sorry if I said that like 3 times in a row. I have a feelin' I'll be lookin' forward to this… Tha beat sounds hot wit you rappin' on it. GREAT shit you rappin' on in tha 1st verse! Great 1st verse, but I loved when you did tha hooks, instead of havin' just a sample on it. Remember your hot formula on these tracks? I like tha "pissin' in a cup…" part. Tha shit you be rappin' about be tight, and keep on rappin' about it! I love all tha lines about kush and sellin' shit when it comes to rhymes a lot. LOL @ 2:55, where it just cut off. My Rating: 4.3

09. "My Appearance"
Looks like a good title, especially since it's focusing on just you. Let's see what kinda ideas you used here… >>> Good, unknown beat for me!! I KNEW this was gonna be FUCKIN' tight!! REAL NICE beat during tha hook, and great lyrics to make an anthem! I like tha "jiggaz" part in tha 1st verse, and I'm glad this 3:51 on tha length!! That's cool that your "pants hang off yo ass" 'cause you be doin' yo own thang, without worryin' what tha haterz think. What a GREAT 1st verse, and that hook iz just CRAZY!! Yes, tha 2nd verse… I'm SO FUCKIN' GLAD you be rockin' Coog, as you said, "da Coog make niggaz jealous." I only got 2 Coog shirts, but tha shit REAL tight lookin'. You just GOIN' FUCKIN' CRAZY ON THIS SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GREAT 2nd verse; OFF THA CHAIN!! Uh oh, Earl at 2:33… Iz he gonna talk for tha next 1:18? I like tha "Coog down" part; nice shit Earl, and I'm glad you promoted Slab wit his Myspace page! Now, at 3:08 around, it's just tha beat… I'm glad tha beat rode out! My Rating: 4.8

10. "My Life"
Good, another "My ___" type of title! Except wit this one, I can tell it's tha The Game/Lil' Wayne beat. I wonder how you do on it… >>> Boo, you kept tha Wayne hook… I don't like how I can barely hear you on this… I hear tha beat louder than you… Not good on tha quality, but tha verse was pretty nice, especially wit tha BR sounding. I like tha "my actions like I'm disabled" part (I prolly was only able to clearly hear it 'cause there was no beat on that part). I guess I liked tha 2nd verse better, but this needed to have better quality in it, especially in hearing you clearly on tha verses. Also, you need your own hook!! You be makin' dem CRAZY jointz wit those CRAZY hooks of yours! My Rating: 3.5

11. "Change"
Another personal song? >>> And a very old beat… 2nd time I heard someone use this "Lord You Know" beat from Cam'ron & Jaheim… Sounds like a pretty good start wit you on tha intro; I like when peeps (especially from Baton Rouge) say, "ya heard me!" Sounds like this was just a freestyle wit only 1 verse… Real nice rhymes throughout it though! My Rating: 3.9

12. "Freestyle"
I think when I was copying tha tracklisting onto a Notepad document on my computer, I noticed this title. This I think made me think there were jacked beats on here. It's all good though 'cause you pretty much MURDERED most of them wit your RAW-ASS rhymes!!! Let's see what mysterious beat you freestylin' off of… >>> Can't really go wit tha "Dey Know" beat for anticipation (due to JD Killa, from New Orleans, did his thang wit his own version called "N.O."). Once again, I like tha "pants hang low" part 'cause you doin' yo own thang. You soundin' GREAT on this shit! Too bad this only 2:00 long… That "niggaz faker than tha polos…" part sounded pretty good to hear; great shit you came up wit. I like tha "you know" part when it originally said, "dey know." You finally said, "get retarded," on this mixtape. I know it took a while, but I'm glad you at least mentioned it 'cause that's tha way you gotta get in Jigga City! My Rating: 4.3

13. "I Want U"
This tha last joint… Are we dedicating this to tha females? >>> Oh, so this "first quarter" shit iz mainly about your own version of how a football team iz losing to you and Earl; I agree. I don't know tha beat, but it sounds pretty nice. This sounds kinda low on tha volume, but I can luckily hear you. That was a NICE verse, and I like how you ended it wit "clean plates," just like one of tha other jointz you did, you ended it wit "dirty plates." I'm glad Earl been hostin' this shit 'cause he made a good voice for himself, you (Yung Slab), and tha streets! My Rating: 4.0

Overall: End Time: 12:18 PM. Well, because I was uncomfortable wit how I was sittin' while reviewin' this, it took me 1 hour and 12 minutes to do this. Plus, what a surprise, due to HOW FUCKIN' GOOD this mixtape was, I focused SOOOO much on writin' this review than playin' tha video game I was playin' 'cause I didn't even BEAT tha level I was on (not even one fuckin' level)!! That goes to show you what a great mixtape this was, and it sure was! Even though mostly jacked beats, except for those 2 that caught me off guard (that I loved), Yung Slab, you FUCKIN' did yo MA'FUCKIN' THANG on this shit!!! Now, this iz DEFINITELY street quality, and I HOPE, in tha future, that you DO hook up wit some street cats from BR (Young Ready, Nu$$ie, B-Raw, and tons others)!! Keep tryna get dat gwop/findin' them producers to get your own beats for tha future 'cause tha ratings'll prolly be better! I mean, damn, for 4.2-4.6 ratings on jacked beats, you're BOUND to get REAL GOOD ratings in tha future wit original beats! Keep doin' yo thang, and I REALLY HOPE you, anybody that fucks wit you, and Ya Boy Earl really like this review 'cause it was a pleasure doin' this shit, and listenin' to your HOT-ASS mixtape!!!
