Review #1,468: Baton Rouge Music Company Presents "Jigg City Radio Vol. 5: Best Of"
Reviewed on 6.27.2015 (Review #1,468)
Doin’
a review, here, tha 1st one of me bein’ 27: Baton Rouge Music
Company Presents
Jigg City
Radio Vol. 5: Best Of, courtesy of tha Baton Rouge Music Company &
DeTrane himself! And, since Young Ready died a few dayz ago, I’ve been really,
really busy, and I’m back to six dayz a week at my job. So, I’m not gonna sit
here for tha full time to listen to this, as I know, like, every song on here.
I gotta hurry, so I gon just say what I currently feel about each one… Start Time: 6:34 PM | End Time: 7:31 PM
Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0
– 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion!
I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long
as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and
then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a
song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6
rating, I pretty much really love it,
as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I
hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type
before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything
after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening
to it. If you use tha word “swag” frequently, have auto-tune in your vocals, or
talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01.
Da G.A.N.G. “All They Do Is Jigg”
More
like a Best Of with tha Baton Rouge scene of tha
2000s, here, since this was never on tha Jigg
City Radio editions… But, gotta luv tha energy, as always! We need to bring
this music back! I mean, there’s still some of it, from whoever still records,
but let’s get rid of all that “gettin’ money” music, already!! My Current Rating: 4.7
02.
Down Bad “Keep Rollin’”
OMG,
I feel like I’m that 19, 20, 21-year-old that was obsessed—OBSESSED TO THA MAX—with Louisiana music with Down Bad & this,
ROFL!!! And now, I’m a lil’ past their ages! And, lol @ tha filename, still
goin’ by “Down Bad Ent.” for some.
Only difference now with this music iz that when I hear, “Pop these pillz,” I
gotta realize that I no longer have a brother… :( May 10, 2015: My 25-year-old
brother was found dead in my studio room in Northeast PA,
from an overdose! Currently, morphine & Xanex was all we know what was in
his body. But, as bad as that was, don’t worry, this music still makes me happy
and so do these times! Always luv tha energy! That’s why my job luvs me!! And, when I hang with people
from my job, I feel like a celebrity, like an Infa Red, Level, DJ B-Real, etc.
walkin’ around! My Current Rating: 4.6
03.
A-Mar & Dyl “Rollin’”
Likin’
how “A-Mar” looks on tha back cover with tha font… But yeah, I remember these
dayz; feels like late ’07 / ’08 again, still one of my best times with 2014
right behind it!! Always gotta luv tha pill music! Always!! My Current Rating: 4.4
04.
Beelow “Jigga City Step”
LOL…
Some of this iz remindin’ me of when I reviewed fellow DJ, Way 3000 & his Jigg City Allstars / Jigg City Rockstars / Got Pills? mixtape compilations! But
yeah, might’ve heard this one once before, but it’s definitely nice and energetic!
Gotta luv when tha pillz hit you! Still haven’t attempted ‘em, yet, or eva, but
I have to say, weed cookies’ll really put you in tha zone! And, geebs/gravity
bongs!! But yeah, great, consistent party vibes, here! My Current Rating: 4.6
05.
T-Lo “All Day”
On
our favorite break girl (this girl Ang from my job)’s birthday, March 11, 2015,
I actually talked to T-Lo for tha first time, finally! However, nothing really
since… But yeah, definitely a classic from my up-and-coming times! I was 19 and
now, who would’ve thought I’d be 27! Hittin’ my peak, especially with a NYC
magazine doin’ an article on me about my Louisiana
life: http://massappeal.com/doggystyle-frankie-tha-lucky-dog/
Luv
it and even though T-Lo got burned with this one from Derty & Boosie with
“Uh Oh” tha following year, this one still remains tha better one! My Current Rating: 4.8
06.
Sam I Am feat. D-So “Sweatin’”
Almost
didn’t remember this one, but this tha 1st new song on here, as it
was just released on Sam’s The Shake Back
CD, two years ago… Here’s what I had to say: Ooh, EQ doin’ a nice job on this beat! Crazy “popped a
molly, I’m sweatin’” shit in tha hook; crazy shit! Sam got tha shit goin’ on nicely in tha 1st verse,
comin’ through like a wild man!! Tha 2nd verse’s startin’ wit a Tupac-like
flow, revising his shit. Usually, I’m not big about revising dead rappers, but
you did it nicely wit tha pillz, Sam! Ooh, D-So on tha 3rd verse;
good shit, includin’ bein’ anotha pill-poppin’ animal; gotta luv it!! If you
don’t luv a pill-poppin’ dude, you fucked up!! I’m talkin’ ‘bout tha ones born
before me!! Great shit; luv when you team up wit peeps, Sam! My Current Rating: 4.7
07.
Jimi Jump “To Pieces”
R…O…F…L…!!
Neva thought I’d talk to, like, every Louisiana
artist back when I first heard this! I was just reviewin’ and was like, “Here,
check me out,” lol. Now, it’s your
responsibility to keep up wit me and my long, busy, consistent life!! But yeah,
definitely still sounds real nice; can’t believe it’s seven years old!! My Current Rating: 4.4
08.
Supa feat. Big Poppa, Level & King Arthur “Jiggin’ Out My Body (Remix)”
Remix,
King Arthur on it & a “P” missin’ in Big Poppa’s name… But, since Supa
blocked me three years ago and never restored blocking me, I’m just gonna skip
this and give it tha same rating I gave it when I gave it, back when I first
heard it… “She know, I’m high;” Supa dealt with me back when I didn’t even get
high!! ROFL, there was a 363-day difference of me blowin’ on dat kush!! March
5, 2009 & March 3, 2010; 363-day difference?!? What a fag I was back then, right?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!? My Current Rating: 4.6
09.
Big Scoob feat. T-Lo “Jigga
City”
Neva heard this before? Ooh, I’m excited, lol!
>>> Sounds like back in tha day. You can tell this a decade old when
they goin’ at “Dem Franchize Boyz” for jackin’ their style. But yeah, nice hook
ta flow with this and, of course, tha beat’s consistently hot fa tha 225! Got
T-Lo on tha 1st verse, comin’ through nicely… Here’s Scoob on tha 2nd
verse, soundin’ like a boss! Can get through tha “got a pocket fulla money”
shit easily ‘cause this shit’s old. But, definitely not during tha current
times, especially since I’ve been robbed multiple times from Louisiana artists! Got T-Lo on tha 3rd
verse; he sounds catchy, but prolly would’ve been betta if there was anotha
Scoob verse. But, I’m diggin’ how he stays on topic with this “Jigga City”
content and party, ya dig? My Rating: 4.4
½time: Definitely somethin’
great, here, no matter who’s on it! Great for my generation and what I enjoyed,
back in tha day! Can’t believe I call it “back in tha day,” now; seems like it
was just yesterday! We’re talkin’ years of me sittin’ in a room, neva goin’ out
anywhere!! But, luckily, I’ve reached tha point where I can do whateva I want!
And, with that bein’ said, this CD’s at a 4.6 for tha CD rating, now!
10.
NIP feat. Co G & Tank Jones “Out My Sox”
LOL
@ “Sox;” I would do that with “sucks” and say, “Sux,” lol. But yeah, definitely
a classic, here! Goes great wit my
classic times of when Nu$$ie was alive! Now, it’s like, are there Young
Ready-alive times? Prolly not, since I’m in a different perspective? It’s more
like before-I-turned-27 times? But yeah, definitely a hot pill-poppin’ song to
tha max, here, especially wit that beat!! My
Current Rating: 4.8
11.
T-Bo “Gott’em Jigg’n”
Goin’
back to tha blockerz (Twitter & Facebook), all ‘cause they couldn’t take my
criticism, smh… I ain’t even hate on “money” rhymes, back then, too, in 2012!
Can you imagine now? But yeah, don’t think I know this one; let’s make it
quick, then!! >>> Beat sounds familiar, like it was jacked; can’t
remember what it was, but it’s mid 2000s? Eightball & MJG? Ahh, whateva! Oh
wait, yes, yes, yes, lol!! David Banner feat. Static “Crank It Up”, ’03! On
March 10, 2004, I stopped bitin’ my nails for a few years ‘cause I guessed that
it was gonna come on MTV2! Great moments and this actually sounded good; can’t
complain… I’m sure I’ll get to reviewin’ it again on one of T-Bo’s many CDs, in
tha future, wheneva that may finally be… My
Rating: 4.3
12.
Delwin The Krazyman “Yahhh (Part 2)”
Anotha…dude…who…annoyed…—oh
wait, I got work tomorrow, so at least I’m—quotin’ y’all—“gettin’ money!” But
“yahhh,” had liked it, at tha time; always go for tha “take me a shit in this
bitch,” shit! Right around this time, on March 30, 2010, that’s where Q-Red
started tha shittin’ pics, which
unexpectedly started a movement! Luv shittin’ pics to tha max, lol! My Current Rating: 4.3
13.
Down Bad feat. Savage “Mind Gone”
LOL,
and this still on CDs…! Was 19, 20,
21 back then; I’m now 27 and it still sounds nice! But, since Savage doesn’t
like to answer me, anymore, I’ll just stop here! My Current Rating: 4.8
14.
Sam I Am “Jawz Locked”
Much betta, as far as bein’
comfortable hearin’ and laughin’, lol! Even tha filename’s still tha same from Jigg City Radio Vol. 4: “Sam I Am – Jawz Locked
!;” I remembered that? I was 21 back then; I got a great memory!! But yeah, you already
know what I think about this Young Hits-produced, pill-poppin’ joint!! My Current Rating: 4.8
15.
Young Scott feat. Doonie & 9V “Baton Rouge, Jigga City”
Don’t
think I heard this one? Only heard two Doonie songs from tha 1st Jigg City Radio edition—oh wait, no
“Lil’,” here, so this more recent? >>> Producer’s tha same producer as
when Southpaw & Rackley made “Gets No Better”, back in ’08, so this might
be old? Either way, nice lil’ vibe, here, and it sounds nice with this
“power-up” hook! Tha 1st verse from Scott sounds pretty nice; gotta
feel it! Here comes Doonie on tha 2nd verse, comin’ through nicely
on this shit! This was me from his birthday, last year, while I wound up goin’
to NY, gettin’ nice and fulla dat shit!! Great job wit tha verse, Doonie! Tha 3rd
verse (9V?) sounds like a young dude that would fit in tha ’08 dayz? Prolly iz
these dayz and it sounds good; can’t complain… My Rating: 4.3
16.
Nuttiochie Boyz “Like We Jigg”
Lemme
see if I remember, here, who’s in Nuttiochie Boyz…? Oh, D-So, Lil’ Yella &
Lil’ Boonie; nice guess for this bein’ eight years-old! But yeah, still a nice
joint, here, with that hard-hittin’ beat! Great job doin’ tha damn thang,
err-body! “Y’all niggaz can’t jigg like we jigg, hoe;” classic times!! My Current Rating: 4.5
17.
Sam I Am feat. T-Lo “Jiggalate (Remix)”
I
remember from somewhere; nice throwback… Always luv those Shonta, energy-up
beats!! My Current Rating: 4.5
18.
Beelow feat. Sam I Am, Lil’ Josh & Lil’ Ernest “Nowlaters”
LOL!
Such classicness, though I ain’t remember if I eva got ta hear this? Either
way, definitely a classic! Gotta luv all tha colors!! Features not listed? Just
luv tha pill shit, as always! Luv tha obsession!! My Current Rating: 4.7
19.
Bengie & Gangsta feat. Sam I Am “Jigg For Me”
Have
I heard? Prolly… >>> Luv tha “Clap Your Hands” remake sound, here, on
tha hook!! Sounds nice and energetic; feelin’ it! An uncredited Sam I Am on tha
1st verse, here; keep “sweatin’!” Tha 2nd verse sounds
pretty energetic, too; great vibe from them! It’s great ta have this kinda
music at all times!! And, tha 3rd
verse’s soundin’ nice ta hear, too; good shit! And, 1:20 of nothing at tha end?
And, outta nowhere, at 6:44, there’s a hidden lil’ skit; nice… My Rating: 4.4
Overall: Wow, this still almost
took an hour to do… Anyway, I thought this was an excellent compilation, ya
dig? Prolly could’ve subtracted a few duplicate artists on here and put, like,
Young Ready or Nu$$ie (wow, with all tha dickriding over tha past six years, no
Nu$$ie, lol?). But for tha most part, definitely a great journey to back in tha
day! As far as you, DeTrane, keep grindin’! Not sure where you stand with this
music shit, but it ain’t ova, yet! Even with myself, I question my status at
times… We may’ve passed our primetimes of ’07 & ’08, but there’s plenty
more in stock! Look at me; who would’ve thought I’d have a record label behind
me? Gotta keep grindin’, somehow! They’ll respect you in tha way they know how
to connect witchu!

Review #66: DeTrane "Jigg City Radio Vol. 1"
Reviewed
on 2.24.2008
(Review No. 66)
Watz good ya'll it's Frankie checkin' in. 'Bout to get into this anticipating mixtape that my dawg Jimmy The DJ sent me on tha e-mail tip. It's tha mixtape from DeTrane called "Jigg City Radio Vol. 1". DEFINITELY lookin' forward to this! By tha way, *FLASHBACK MOMENT*: On this date 4 years ago (February 24, 2004), I copped tha Trillville & Lil' Scrappy debut album "The King Of Crunk & BME Recordings Present: Trillville & Lil' Scrappy". It was my most anticipated album to cop of all time, as I waited EXACTLY one month to cop it (from 1.24.2004 – 2.24.2004). It was CRAZY & HOT, and I miss those dayz of crunk. But now, 2.24.2008, it's all about tha Louisiana music! That's what I'm REALLY feelin' right now! Start Time: 10:53 PM | Video Game Playing: The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time (for Nintendo 64) (on my computer)
Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! 01.
"Intro"
Let's set this bitch off! >>> I think you sound like B.G. (I thought that was him tha first time I heard it on your Myspace). My Rating: N/A
02. Nuttiochie Boys "My Nigga, Ma Thug"
Izn't it "Boyz"? Yeah. It says that on tha "Gangsta Gumbo Vol. 1" mixtape, so I'm goin' wit that. Lookin' forward to this right here! >>> Very good start wit that intro, so definitely lookin' forward! I like tha combo hook wit tha "my nigga *insert somethin'*, my nigga *insert somethin'* / ma thug *insert somethin'*, ma thug *insert somethin'*." This iz definitely tha shit I wanna hear on this mixtape! Tha beat reminds me a lil' of tha Young Buck joint from 2004 (tha one after tha "Shorty Wanna Ride" video)… oh yeah, "Stomp". That dude that says "I'm hollain' 'fuck you'…" sounds like my boy Big Mike. I love how this iz long. Good line "I'm like a Budweiser, bitch, I twist caps." Good shit right here! My Rating: 4.3
03. Down Bad "Out Chea"
Good I wanna hear some shit from them again! High AL! >>> Nice low intro (as tha song sounds low on my stereo). *INTERMISSION* It's not a big thing, but just because I don't wanna get thrown off by tha "rare song" (older song that plays once every 2 months) playing on Music Choice Dance right now (Utada Hikaru "Devil Inside (The Scumfrog Radio Edit)"), I finna listen to that song while it's on (and look at her hot pics on tha screen too). *INTERMISSION ENDS* Aight now I finna hear tha rest of this joint! Still lookin' forward!… Tha hook reminds me of me reviewing it in tha past. *Checks their comments on their Myspace* Aight I wrote to them on August 16, 2007, but this song was on there. Either way, this song iz tha shit, and I finna rate it tha same as tha "My Nigga, Ma Thug" song. I wonder which song'll be better at tha end during tha rankings! My Rating: 4.3
04. Lil' Boxx "Full Throttle"
When I saw "Full Throttle", I thought it was gonna be A-Mar & Dyl for a sec (since that's what they represent). Lemme hear this joint. >>> Beat intro sounds like Dee-1 "Priceless", only faster. Ooh nice hook. This looks like this gon be good shit! 1st verse was good. What does "full throttle" mean (iz that a stupid question)? Does it mean doin' somethin' by keepin' it 100, doin' somethin' to tha max, or somethin' perfect? This iz just my opinion: when someone says "I keep a lot of girlz like a lesbian," I feel like that's a gay saying IMO 'cause lesbians are gay. It just sounds weird, but other than that, this joint was jammin'. My Rating: 3.8
05. Dyl "Bars & Apple Fanta"
Str8 from tha "Raggz 2 Riches" mixtape. Finna copy/paste my review from that to this: I like tha beat fusion mix in tha beginning. Not bad for a start, but it sounds like it's gettin' better when Dyl raps on this. Too bad there was no A-Mar on this. We'll see if I have tha same rating or better. I previously rated this a 3.8. >>> I feel it a lil' better now. I guess when I first heard it on that mixtape, I thought A-Mar was gonna be on it, so I think that decreased my chances of a higher rating tha last time, but this iz good. A slight increase. My Current Rating: 3.9 (+0.1 to tha previous rating)
06. Skiddalz "Different Flavors"
What can I say… … … "Skiddalz, taste tha rainbow!" Somethin' tells me this joint gon sound weird/be a dance or somethin'. >>> Lol it sounds like I'm goin' to dislike this… I don't like a gangsta beat wit a 12 year old sounding group. Yeah pretty good beat, but tha vocals destroys this for me. I can't go for this kiddie stuff. Sorry, if you're gonna be this young sounding, sound like tha Connecticut group Tha Smugglaz. In 2001, at Age 9 & 10 (youngest artist I eva heard at a time), they released "CT Anthem" in tha Fall of 2001, and that was some hot shit. This, no. My Rating: 1.6
07. "Jigg City Radio Break 1"
Yeah let's take a break, betta yet a breather, from that shit that just played. *Goes and gets a drink…* >>> Oh no a female MC next? I don't have an AL (anticipation level) for this… My Rating: N/A
EDIT: Aight wit all that shit you're gonna see for No. 8 that I said about tha female MC, I reheard tha "Jigg City Radio Break 1", and I got confused at first, but now I understand. No wonder why I didn't like that joint "Different Flavors". STL (which iz not tha best, but it's not Louisiana) + female MC + white female MC + young sounding = shit to me. That's 4 bad things for somethin' I wanna hear (no offense to white gurlz; ya'll can be sexy as hell, but I don't know about tha rappin'…). No wonder why I rated it so low!
08. Lil' Doonie Feat. K9 "Yo Swagger"
Lil' Doonie sounds familiar, but I ain't gonna say much 'cause I don't know what's gonna come outta this… >>> Okay I definitely feel tha hook. Looks like a good first verse iz comin' out. Nice beat too. That hook DEFINITELY can go wit tha way I feel at college. I could rock a nice fresh polo wit girbauds (oh how weird, as soon as tha 2nd verse started, that dude said "'bauds saggin'"; that's watz good). Anyway, I could rock a nice fresh polo wit girbauds, and then at my college, I'll see some dudes rock pajamas and get more respect than me. SMH/WTF? I think tha respect they get iz mainly from them "clickin' together" in a click. There's no female MC in this joint (I'm guessin' you were talkin' about "Different Flavors"). Definitely started to feel it towards tha end, and knowin' that there wasn't a female MC on it, I felt like tha rating should be better! My Rating: 4.7
09. Sugar Shane Feat. Lil' Boosie & Lil' Meta "I'm Dat Dude"
This sounds familiar… just that title. I'm gonna hear it first, but if it's not somethin' I heard, then I got a High AL for it! >>> Yes I heard this before. It wasn't ID'd like this. Shit… Where did I hear this from (I reviewed tons of things, but I think this was on "Gangsta Gumbo Vol. 1"). *Checks* Okay I found it in a review on my Myspace blog. It was from tha DJ Wizkid & Young Capone "1,000 Grams Straight Drop" mixtape (I reviewed it 1.26.2008). I guess Young Capone jacked that beat and Lil' Boosie's part, but this still sounds good. Yeah it's tha same Lil' Boosie verse, and this iz what I said about tha Lil' Boosie verse: Yeah Boosie went first, but smh… He's NOT tha "Wipe Me Down" cat. Foxx iz Mr. Wipe Me Down Boosie… SMH… Still good verse by Boosie tho. I finna keep tha same rating from that mixtape, but this still sounded great. Great beat and real great hook. My Rating: 4.4
10. "Jigg City Radio Break 2"
Another break already? Let's see what's goin' on… >>> Aight a Nu$$ie joint iz up next. Lil' Cali + Savage collabo? Looks like I might've heard before… My Rating: N/A
11. Nu$$ie Feat. Lil' Cali & Savage "They Hate My"
Okay I betta check before I increase my AL… *Checks* …Okay I neva reviewed it, so DEFINITELY VERY HIGH AL for this joint!! >>> I hope I get to meet/work wit Savage in tha future, betta yet at least talk to him/get him to see how good of a person I am for Rap music. Savage, keep doin' ya thang! That's a pretty good hook, but much better: that beat! Love tha beat by Savage! Nu$$ie did his thang on his verse. Good part by Lil' Cali too. Damn, there should be a mixtape in tha works of all Savage productions and one of all Mouse productions. That would be REALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHHHHHHHHHTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!! I like tha "CEO/see me blow" line by Nu$$ie on tha 3rd verse. Good shit right here! My Rating: 4.5
12. Da Ja Vu Feat. Lil' Doonie "Gutta Bitch"
Damn ya'll love ya "gutta bitch"es out there in Louisiana. I must've heard so many titles called "Gutta Bitch" so far. Let's see how this one'll be. >>> Okay this female sounds better than that one I rated low on here. At least she's a "stupid bitch, retarded bitch" (as she says, no offense). Call this gurl a "crunk bitch" or betta yet a "gutta bitch". I like Lil' Doonie's part where he says "got her name up in cursive". A great collabo of some hot Louisiana shit by male & female rappers! This iz like one of those first successful collabos. My Rating: 4.1
½time: This mixtape iz tight so far. Glad to see a Savage production, that song I rated 4.7, Dyl, and a bunch of other great jointz on here. Hopefully tha next 12 are just as good!
13. Lil' 627 "Still In It"
Where's tha 627? *Looks on Wikipedia*… Aight I got nothin', and I'm gettin' nothin' in Google. Maybe this dude'll say what it represents. Let's see if this iz good also! >>> This iz a lil' over 2 minutes. Hope it's great for somethin' this short. Tha beat sounds weird in tha beginning, but it picks up later (at around 1:20), even tho its still got that weird sound in it. Good shit tho. Great hook! My Rating: 4.2
14. Six Figgaz "U Can't Do My Dance"
I saw tha name Six Figgaz, and I thought I was gonna have AL, but that title just destroys my AL 'cause I don't wanna hear no dance type of shit… Low AL. >>> Oh no it's 4:29. Tha only thing I like in tha hook iz tha "watch me, watch me"'s. Bad hook tho. How come if I dislike a song like this, I'll hear somethin' about girbauds. URRGH (just heard it twice in here)… Iz that a way for me to like this, lmao?? Tha way they rapped sounded REAL good. If this wasn't about somethin' related to a dance, this would've been tha shit. My Rating: 2.7
15. D-So & Fred (Dirty Boyz) "Dat's Wuzzup"
This gives me a High AL. Looks like it gon be dope. >>> Lol @ it taking like 9 seconds to get into it. "Got purp rolled up, yeah dat's wuzzup" Feel this line in tha hook ("purp rolled up" = good luck). I don't have much to say about this. This iz just some good-ass shit! My Rating: 4.3
16. Down Bad "Jump Clean On 'Em"
I was just about to say that I was gonna have lots of faith in tha No. 16 joint ('cause I always predict a REAL BIG banger), but I reviewed this on August 16, 2007 on Down Bad's Myspace (I remembered tha title 'cause I had to look for tha other one on this mixtape). I didn't give it a rating, but lemme copy/paste what I said about this joint: Nice hook. Nice beat (feelin' it). I like them (u guys) talkin' about girbauds. That's what's good. Yeah this a banger right here. Thumbs up to tha boyz of Down Bad. To continue wit that "'cause a nigga fresh, like tha first day of school / beat a nigga ass, like tha last day of school." Hot shit right there!! To go wit tha girbauds, thumbs up to tha polo shirts. They're now becoming a favorite of mine. I also like how tha lyrics in this are mainly describin' a "fresh swag". Here goes my rating: My Rating: 4.1
17. A-Mar & Dyl "Rollin'"
Did I hear this? *Checks* … Oh shit (a "shits in his pants mood"). Looks like a new joint! Maybe this was meant to be No. 16 (gives me that feeling). VERY HIGH AL!! >>> "Hand Clap" beat. I thought I heard this before (was thinkin' tha ID was wrong), but no, new joint for me! I like how A-Mar iz rappin' on that first verse. Had Hurricane Chris's flow locked on 100%. It sounded like Hurricane Chris a lil' too. Gotta feel this for a jacked beat. Feelin' that hook too. Sounds real tight! My Rating: 4.2
18. "Jigg City Radio Break 3"
Yeah talk about a break. I have an extreme amount of gas inside of me right now. I might have to go to tha bathroom. I finna listen to this "break" and then go to tha bathroom. >>> Lookin' forward to tha next joint! My Rating: N/A
Break: 12:33 AM – 12:39 AM
19. Southpaw & Rackley "Allstarz"
Have a feeling I'll like this… >>> I like how it just jumped into tha hook. Sounds like some good shit right here. Nice beginning hook, and as soon as that 1st dude mentioned "150 on tha interstate," I just thought about that feeling, only in a desert wit a non-stop road. Crazy shit… Really feelin' that beat, and tha whole vibe of this song. Yeah really feelin' this shit! Great beat (once again)! My Rating: 4.6
20. Trouble "Oaktown"
Aight during this week, 2.18.2008 – 2.24.2008, I've been doin' tha Music Choice Dance airplay (keeping track of tha current songs they play currently). Yeah it's only shitty 'cause they mainly play Pop/R&B dance remixes and tha oldest dance shit in heavy rotation. MCD ain't tha same as they were in 2004 (they were tha SHIT back then; new dance songs in heavy rotation and some good "outta nowhere" shit/unsigned shit got into low rotation as well). Next week, week of 2.25.2008 – 3.02.2008, I'm gonna be doin' tha Music Choice Rap airplay. Since I'm doin' tha airplay right now, I gotta check back to see what played ('cause I record it off of my VCR for 6 hours) and then I type it on my laptop. It usually takes me like 17 minutes for a 6 hour taping, so if I don't type much, it's 'cause of tha airplay. >>> Good beat intro. Feelin' that long intro. Okay we got a great hook & vocals on this joint. I didn't think this joint was gonna be this good. Good unexpectation. Oh I see this joint iz 4:48. Good thing it's long. Real nice throughout tha whole song!! My Rating: 4.6
21. Lil' Feet "Smack Down"
What's wit that name? Lil' Feet? Not expecting a hot joint… >>> Sounds like a Louisiana bounce song/crunk music. This joint doesn't interest me tho. What tha hell wit that gurl on tha hook? I'd rather hear tha chick Lil' LA on tha 3-Kingz joint "Jump Stupid". Now that's a CHICK! My Rating: 3.0
22. Lil' Yella "Jigg City Radio Break 4"
>>> Wanna hear your shit (No. 23)! My Rating: N/A
23. Lil' Yella & Thug Addict "Out Ma Soul"
Yeah this joint betta come from ya soul. High AL! >>> Pretty good start. That dude on tha 2nd verse doin' his thang!! Damn he snappin'!!! My Rating: 4.1
24. "Outro"
And DeTrane, how we gon end this? >>> Yeah thanx 4 that contact info and good message. My Rating: N/A
Overall: End Time: 1:06 AM. Yeah that was definitely a great mixtape. Lookin' forward to tha 2nd one! March 1st it comes out (saw that on your Myspace).
Rankings (according to ratings):

03. Trouble "Oaktown" 4.6
02. Southpaw & Rackley "Allstarz" 4.6
01. Lil' Doonie Feat. K9 "Yo Swagger" 4.7
Review #31: Jimmy The DJ "Gangsta Gumbo Vol. 1 (Hosted by Dee-1)"
Reviewed on
11.27.2007 (Review
No. 31)
Watz good Jimmy The DJ, my homie. This yo boy Frankie. Here goes my review for tha "Gangsta Gumbo Vol. 1" mixtape. By tha way, to prove that I really wanna listen to this mixtape, I'm POST-PONING doing BOTH my Ethics paper that I have to fix, as well as my Macroeconomics test that I still have to do (which I can use my notes and do it at my house due to I'm Autistic, and got a lot of shit to do wit Ethics). Either way, I'm really anticipated for this because I don't know what to expect… I didn't read tha tracklisting (which I usually don't at first), and I'm looking forward to hearing some new talent, ESPECIALLY outta tha N.O.!
I will rate each song from 1.0 – 4.0. To determine
my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings (if a song gets at least a 4.0
rating from me, I love it already), so any song can earn up to a maximum of a
5.0 rating. Anything I type before " >>> " iz
what I'm sayin' before I listen to tha song, and anything after I type "
>>> " iz what I think of tha song while I'm listening
to it. So here it goes, and at tha end, I'll tell you one main reason why I
really wanted this mixtape (tha first reason was 'cause of tha dope cover).
Start Time: 10:01 PM.
01. "Intro"
Aight a :30 intro. I won't rate this due to there's prolly not gonna be a rap in it, but lemme see wat it sounds like: >>> Intro just gets me more anticipated to hear tha mixtape! My Rating: N/A
02. Dee-1 "Murder Capitol"
Aight here it goes 1st song, new rapper to me, so High AL (anticipation level)! >>> Nice start. Tha beat has it goin' on at different parts, and I'm liking that. Tha hook sounds pretty good for a start. Nice 1st verse. Good 2nd & 3rd verse! I actually can't get enough of that hook, it's real tight! Oh real nice speeding tempo at tha end! My Rating: 4.1
03. Nu$$ie Feat. Skull Duggery "Dumb Way"
Like tha title, and tha rapper names seem cool, so another High AL! >>> Ooh Nu$$ie sounds pretty good on his part. Nice verse by him, and nice line "call me Nu$$ie Bad Azz." Nice hook. Sounded a lil' like a "Wipe Me Down" beat in tha background. 2nd verse was good, but 3rd verse iz soundin' real good. Good joint as well! My Rating: 3.9
04. Lil' Witness "You Right"
Got some more High AL! >>> Real nice smooth beat intro! He's got a good flow, and this iz somethin' I think I would like. Nice hook! Sounded like another speeded ending. My Rating: 4.0
05. Team Yea Yea "Woozy"
Let's see… >>> Sounds like a club banger. This one sounds better than most club bangers out now. Good verses and hook for a club banger. My Rating: 3.8
06. Sleep Feat. Big Gill & Kuale Boy "House Shoes"
Let's see this 3 way collaboration; looking forward! >>> That sound effect from Soulja Boy/"Ain't Gon Let Up"/"PB&J" that I like. This iz okay for me… My Rating: 3.5
07. B-Raw Feat. Gutta "Parking Lot 2 Picture Booth"
Could be good. Let's find out… >>> Ooh tha beat iz bangin'!! Shit this iz bangin'!! B-Raw kickin' sum mu'fuckin' ass!! DEFINITELY lucky no. 7 on tha mixtape!! My Rating: 4.6
08. Young Tre "In Da Hood"
I think Dirty South Radio has this (I saw them play a Young Tre song yesterday). I think this iz Bohagon's dude? Not really sure, but High AL iz what I'm sure of! >>> Nice that it did tha same sample as what Brisco did (tha Bun B sample from Webbie, Lil' Boosie & Bun B's "Show Ya Tattoos (Remix)" from 2005). Nice beat, and pretty good on tha flow. I like that it's a lil' slower than tha Brisco/Lil' Wayne joint. Pretty good. He sounds very slightly like Lil' Wayne on tha vocals. Nice lil' line at tha end "fresh 'bauds, white tee." I like seein' rappers/people wit Girbauds. That's really watz good. They're my favorite type of pants, and I love 'em. My Rating: 3.8
EDIT: My bad, this ain't Bohagon's dude (that's Playboy Tre); this dude's cool though.
09. Konfidence Feat. Pikasso "The Anthem"
It's all about "tha anthems"!! Right now 2 jointz got it goin' on wit tha title "Anthem". One joint iz Pitbull/Lil' Jon, and tha other one iz a vocal trance song by Filo & Peri/Eric Lumiere. Both bangin', so let's see if this can be tha 3rd! >>> Good intro so far! Good verses, and great hook! Beat iz bangin'! Like tha beginning of tha hook "runnin' from tha kush." 3rd verse was on point! My Rating: 4.1
EDIT: Neva mind, it's "blunted from tha kush;" that's tight right there!
10. A-Mar & Dyl "Knock 'Em Out"
High AL, and I see it's A-Mar, tha dude who's mixtape you gave me as a bonus (his 2005 mixtape "My Gutta Wayz"). Lookin' forward to that, but let's get into this! >>> Odd sounding in tha beat background, but it should be good! Very Lil' Boosieish on tha vocals. Not bad. I damn near lost my mood for tha song due to I kept screwin' up in this video game I was playin' on my computer (Diddy Kong Racing for Nintendo 64), but tha joint turned out nice still. My Rating: 3.7
11. Lil' Boosie Feat. SCC "Livin' What I'm Spittin'"
Oh speaking of Mr. Bad Azz here he iz. Looking forward to a new joint of his, especially wit a feature! Very High AL!!! >>> Real nice verse by Boosie. Soundin' great. Nice rhymes throughout tha whole song! My Rating: 4.4
12. "Skit"
Right in time for tha ½ time! >>> Oh that's you Jimmy. That's watz good. 'Preciate you droppin' by. My Rating: N/A
Halftime: So far so good. I hope it stays that way. Hopefully there's at least 1 more shocking joint like No. 7!
13. Dee-1 Feat. Zella & La La "Priceless"
Aight let's see if he holds it down on this joint as well! >>> Decent start. What's wit that girl throughout tha hook? Sounds pretty good. For some reason I'm starting to loss interest? I don't know why… My Rating: 3.5
14. JD Killa "Red Bandana"
>>> Nice beginning. Really like that laugh in tha beginning. I have that sound effect on my iPod, and it's funny. Looking forward to hearing! Cheesy sample on tha hook! Feelin' tha lyrics to tha hook, but that sample has to go! Tha song came out pretty good tho on tha verses. Nice "yeah boy" (Public Enemy sample) at tha end! My Rating: 3.7
EDIT: Didn't mean to criticize it at first; I think it's a cool joint.
15. Sleepy "Believe Me"
I hope I believe it's good. Not sure what to expect. >>> I had a feeling I wasn't gonna feel it. Didn't catch on. I don't have any interest. My Rating: 2.6
16. STS Records "I Can Make You Famous"
Usually No. 16 iz a real good joint most of tha time for me when it comes to me reviewing shit, so hopefully this'll revive that incident of No. 15! >>> Like tha speed of tha track, but hopefully it catches on… Hehe… he mentioned Girbauds… This iz not sounding like a Louisiana song or a dirty south song… Reminds me of LL Cool J "Headsprung" wit tha flowing. My Rating: 3.4
17. Shome "Closer"
Maybe this'll revive tha mixtape? >>> Sounds good on tha intro. Nice and slow. Oh no female sample. I don't really go for those female samples, especially high pitched. Great rhymes, but not my type of song unfortunately. Oh yeah nice speeding at tha end. My Rating: 2.5
18. VL Mike "Ether (B.G. Diss)"
Oh no… a B.G. diss! Sorry, but not looking forward! >>> Booo… thumbs down to tha "Ether" beat no less… Wow he's mad… I like his temper. My Rating: 3.0
19. J-Balla "Showin' Up"
Aight maybe this'll make a come back. I have a High AL finally so let's have faith in it!! >>> Nice start, and more wit tha Girbauds! Real nice hook fa'real! J-Balla be ballin'! Oh really feelin' tha 2nd verse!! "I'm on my shit, I be showin' up!" <- That's tha shit right there!! What a comeback to tha mixtape!! And nice that instead of speedin' up, it was slowin' down towards tha end! My Rating: 4.5
20. Nuttiochie Boyz "Like We Jigg"
Maybe a club banger? Hope this mixtape ends wit bangers!! >>> Crunk rock start… I like tha 1st verse, and all that "ya'll niggas can't jig like we jig"ness. Another mention to Girbauds when he said "'baud pants" at 2:23. My Rating: 3.5
21. Shome "New Orleans Freestyle"
She's back again…? Hopefully some fire… outta a freestyle. >>> Not really feelin' tha beat (it sounds like Jay-Z's "Encore" or "Show Me What You Got". Not sure which one). She does flow good on it, and that was real short, so I guess it gets a thumbs up. My Rating: 3.3
22. Sleep Feat. Big Gill & Kuale Boy "Check Us Out"
Aight I'll check you out again. Heard tha beginning of tha beat on accident, but it sounded real dope, so I got a High AL! >>> Yeah tha beat iz dope! That's a good line for when you wanna spread your music around "gon check us out, we from tha south!" Great production on tha track! Sounded pretty good throughout tha song. My Rating: 4.0
23. The Steppaz "Step Up"
Cool… Why not, a High AL. >>> Good beat start! I guess it's pretty good sounding. Good hook. My Rating: 4.2
24. B-Raw "Freestyle"
Okay how will it end wit only 1:02 remaining? I think there should've been an outro, but I heard tha 1st second of this, and it was tha "Make 'Em Say Ugh" beat. Let's see what he did to it. >>> Too cold of an ending, but he did his thang. My Rating: 3.7
Overall: End Time: 11:53 PM. Not bad for tha 1st time hearing a "Gangsta Gumbo" mixtape! Beginning was real dope, but then it went downhill on about ½ of tha 2nd ½. At least there was that one surprise that I was expecting on tha 2nd ½, and it was at No. 19! And here's that main reason why I got tha mixtape: I'm currently goin' to college, and I'm on my 3rd semester. During tha 2nd semester, I met this dude Jeff Gumbs, and we became cool. During tha 3rd semester I wanted to build my friendship wit him, and when I wanted this mixtape from you, we were cool. About ONE WEEK LATER, he didn't stick up for me (like a friend should – I told this dude Tressor off 'cause he was talkin' shit to me, and Jeff was laughin' while it happened. Then when I mentioned it to Jeff on Facebook, he was like "I ain't fuckin' protectin' you!! What tha hell do I look like?? You want everyone to be all nice to you, but here you are givin' niggas tha finger and shit"), and he told me to not write him anymore on Facebook, so since 10.19.2007, I never talked/wrote him. It's like WTF? I'm one of tha best/nicest people in tha world! Yesterday I gave my mom $80 and a $20 lottery ticket as an early Christmas present! What person does that these dayz? He don't know what he's missing! He used me 'cause I had his back when it came to missing class. I gave him tha notes, I burned him mixtapes and shit like that, and I get this in return? Whatever… I told him I was Autistic, and I think that ruined our friendship sadly. He thinks I use my disability as an excuse for everything? I do use it for a lot of things, but shit, he's an asshole. At least his name and tha name of this mixtape compilation sparked tha attention of mine to get this mixtape, and I'm glad I got it from you/glad I talked to you those times. I heard better mixtapes in tha past, but yours still gets a thumbs up from me. Keep doin' yo thang, and prolly later this week hopefully I'll check out A-Mar's "My Gutta Wayz". And now, here are tha rankings (according to ratings):
