R.I.P. Video #60: Yella Boy (U.N.L.V.)

Broadcasting from Concrete City, here in Nanticoke, PA, it's ya boy, FrankieThaLuckyDog, here, sadly reporting anotha tragic loss in tha Louisiana rap community. A special edition, today, April 5, 2018.

Today, April 5, 2018, marks 21 years since tha murder of New Orleans, LA rapper, Yella Boy. Yella Boy was born Albert Thomas in 1975. During the early '90s, Thomas joined tha rap group, U.N.L.V., which consisted of Tec-9, Lil' Ya & Yella Boy, himself. U.N.L.V. was one of tha 1st acts signed with Cash Money Records during tha early '90s. U.N.L.V. released their debut album, 6th & Baronne, in 1993. In 1994, they released their 2nd album, Straight Out Tha Gutta. In 1995, their 3rd album, Mac Melph Calio, was released, as well as Scrap Up!!. Their 4th album, Uptown 4 Life, was released in 1996. During 1996, life drew a hint of darkness for Thomas, as Thomas and Cash Money rep, Baby a.k.a. Birdman, started gettin' into it. U.N.L.V. was rumored to be dropped from Cash Money Records and Thomas pistol-whipped Baby. In a form of retaliation, many believe Baby killed Thomas. On April 5, 1997, Thomas was shot in tha head and killed in a dangerous drug deal at only 22 years-old. After Thomas' death, U.N.L.V. released their Greatest Hits compilation in 1997. After a four-year hiatus, U.N.L.V. returned in 2001 with their 5th album, The Return of U.N.L.V.: Trend Setters, on Blazin' South Records. In 2003, U.N.L.V. hit tha streets with their 6th album, Keep It Gutta, courtesy of B Real Entertainment. In 2004, U.N.L.V.'s 7th album, Gutta 4 Life, was also released on B Real Entertainment.

Review #1,634: The South Coast Compilation "Str-8-Ballin'"

Reviewed on 2.07.2017 (Review #1,634)

Time for my next review in my Louisiana Reviewz Marathon: The South Coast Compilation Str-8-Ballin’, released in 1997 on 2 Loaded Records! This tape features Skull Duggrey, Kilo G, Tre-8, Zeeda, Ceaser, Lil’ E, Ms. Kim, Southern Comfort, Ace-Lo, Shorty Roc, Lil’ Jinx, Big Bop, Fisher Fools, Recon & Hell Raisers…! Start Time: 2:47 PM | End Time: 3:53 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> “ iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> “ iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. Intro
>>> Sounds like a nice lil’ night out at a house party… And, this iz Tee’s “house,” lol! Crazy ending! My Rating: N/A

02. “Niggaz (Dime Or Dozen)”
>>> Decent lil’ beat like an SWV one or somethin’… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it ain’t too bad; luv your rap vs. singin’ style, at times! 03. “Smokin’ Urb (Free Your Mind)”
>>> Beat kinda plain, here, but I’m diggin’ your rappin’ and singin’ on tha 1st verse; catchy shit! Props ta you bein’ a stoner! Nice how you sing Diana King’s “Shy Boy”, at times! Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ nice, as you’re feelin’ tha vibe of tha stoner life! My Rating: 3.8

04. “Cheezy What, Cheezy Who”
>>> A bounce vibe in tha beat, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds like you’re jammin’, but tellin’ a story fa tha hood, at tha same time… Tha hook’s now a sample of Brownstone “If You Love Me”; you lovin’ tha ‘90s! Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ pretty catchy, in a fuckin’ setting, here, lol… Tha 3rd verse’s continuously keepin’ this bounce vibe goin’… My Rating: 3.9

05. “Bring It Home 2 Me” feat. BGz, Kilo G & Tec-9
Yeah! A collab!! >>> Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s soundin’ nice from these BGz, stayin’ strapped! Almost reminds me of VL Mike, at times (Kilo?)! Feelin’ how you comin’ through on tha hook, Tee! Excellent singin’, here! Hearin’ B.G. on tha 2nd verse and he comin’ through, hittin’ “tha block when it’s dark,” of course! Gotta luv how he comin’ through as a 16-year-old gangsta, here! Keepin’ it goin’ wit tha 3rd verse, here, and it’s soundin’ nice, survivin’ tha times… If this Tec-9, then he doin’ a good job, holdin’ this shit down… And, a long beat outro, here… My Rating: 4.1

06. “U Ain’t Right”
>>> Beat’s smooth, quiet & jammin’, all at once… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it good… Still lovin’ when you unleash tha singin’, outta nowhere! Props fa keepin’ this goin’; not too bad, overall… My Rating: 3.7

½time: This a decent release, here; always lovin’ your singin’ on top of tha rappin’… A 3.9-rated CD, so far; let’s keep it goin’!

07. “Much Love”
>>> Sounds catchy with this bounce-influenced sound, as well as how you comin’ through with tha hook… Wit you comin’ through nicely on tha 1st verse, we have an uncredited rapper on tha 2nd verse, here, comin’ through with some catchiness fa you… And, tha rest of this from you’s nice ta hear… My Rating: 3.6

08. “I Like It (Radio Edit)”
A radio edit? >>> Tha beat sounds nice fa tha ‘90s; feelin’ tha style… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and it’s mainly your singin’ style… It sounds catchy ta hear, here…; nice job with tha hook, too… Tha rest of this kinda boring, but tha beginning wasn’t too bad ta hear… My Rating: 3.6

09. “Creep’n”
>>> A more upbeat vibe, here… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s pretty catchy; can’t deny it! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty good, as you’re holdin’ shit down with your upbeat rappin’, here… Just regular rappin’ fa tha N.O. on tha 2nd verse, here, as you continue ta hold it down! My Rating: 3.9

10. “If He Don’t Trick”
>>> Feelin’ tha upbeat, laidback vibe, here, in tha production… Here you are on tha 1st verse, comin’ through, still soundin’ catchy… Nice job with this track; can’t complain about it… My Rating: 3.7

11. “Wine Cooler”
>>> Sounds catchy wit how you comin’ through on tha 1st verse… I’ono why, but I can’t seem to have interest in havin’ much ta comment about, at times… My Rating: 3.8

12. “I Like It (Mannie Fresh Style)”
Let’s hear a non-radio edit this time, lol? >>> Feelin’ tha Fresh attribute ta this, despite him already producin’ tha whole entire CD, already! Just a beat? Nice job for an instrumental… See #8 fa tha review!

Reviewed on 6.18.2010 (Review #546)

Only two more left in ’96… Tha semi-final review for ’96 iz for my big dawgz U.N.L.V. “Uptown 4 Life!! Start Time: 10:52 PM | End Time: 12:29 AM

Quick Note: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion!! I only please myself wit my ratings!! I don’t care how lyrical you are! As long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings (if a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much REALLY LOVE it as it’s considered “mindblowin’” when I hear it) so any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song. Anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it.

Let’s see what y’all have wit tha Wiggly on here… >>> Good info, Zigg! My Rating: N/A

02. “Uptown 4 Life”
Let’s hear dis title track! >>> Good-ass beat start!! Tha Bounce vocals wit tha GR8 gangsta shit in tha hook sounds REAL TIGHT!! I like tha movie sample in tha beat too! Tha 1st verse’s DEFINITELY “equipped” to tha fullest wit how y’all bringin’ dis shit to tha table! Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ good and gutta to tha fullest wit “hittin’ tha set” wit your “nuts hangin’.” Really doin’ a nice job wit tha “representin’” here in tha 2nd verse! Tha 3rd verse’s consistin’ of some real hood shit here. I really like how y’all just keepin’ it real all tha way here! My Rating: 4.7

03. “Drag ‘Em N Tha River”
What do we got here? I like dis title fa 6:09 on tha length! >>> Oh, I just read online dat Juvie used DIS beat fa “Set It Off” five years later! Interestin’… Y’all sound good here on dis hot beat! Really representin’ here… Y’all have scenes set up at all times and are ready! Tha hook’s all about bein’ you and “not givin’ a fuck;” good attitude here… Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ good wit your consistent once again; strong perspectives… Tha 3rd verse’s keepin’ it gangsta in a bloody river, lol! Not likin’ “Mystikal?” Why? You said he was “a hoe?” Tha 4th verse’s “deliverin’ bad luck” and has a “nose dirty,” lol! Tha 5th verse and dis beat’s just unstoppable, lol!! I feel like, it’ll neva end! It just keeps it goin’! My Rating: 4.5

04. “Pocket Full Of Furl” Feat. B.G.
I didn’t realize what tha last word was for a second; thought it was “gurl,” lol! >>> Funky beat start here. Sounds like a remake of “Pocket Full Of Stones,” lol? How random… Even sounds a lil’ like a Pimp C wit tha voice and keepin’ it gutta here for tha 1st verse!! Are we still on tha 1st verse? I was thrown off by tha title comin’ outta nowhere for a second but anyway, I just gon keep listenin’… I guess it was tha 2nd verse; I’ll consider it. Now, let’s see tha 3rd verse… Anotha dude (oh, it’s B.G.; lemme pull up tha features somewhere) str8 doin’ his thang!! He keepin’ it REAL gangsta here, just really doin’ his thang!! “Shoulder leanin’” a decade before Young Dro, lol!! It was now split to anotha ½ here on tha 3rd verse; interestin’ shit wit tha U.N.L.V. member! Let’s see what’s good fa tha 4th verse… Gotta keep it “real” to tha fullest! Likin’ these drug-related lyrics!! Luvin’ tha snortin’ at tha end! My Rating: 4.4

06. “211-187”
Those MAGICAL numbers, lol! What y’all got ta say on dis one? >>> Feelin’ tha beat intro here… “211’s at night. 187’s in tha daylight?” I still don’t know what it means but I guess “211’s” are gutta while “187’s” aren’t so bad, lol. Tha 1st verse’s pretty good for tha hood here; “puffin’ on tha blunt!” Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ good; strong attitude. Ooh, tha 2nd ½ of tha 2nd verse sounds like Cee-Lo almost. It was quick and it switched back to tha previous dude. Tha 3rd verse sounds good for a start wit dis gangsta shit! Feelin’ how y’all comin’ through from tha hood! Tha 2nd ½ of tha 3rd verse iz startin’ off wit a “paralysis!” Pretty raw here… My Rating: 4.4

07. “Chill And Hussle”
Looks like one of those cool titles so let’s see what’s good! >>> Tha beat’s cool here, as it’s uptempo. Tha beat sounds like it has a sample in it? Tha 1st verse’s soundin’ real cool wit how it sounds for tha South here! Tha hook sounds cool; y’all REALLY coolin’ here! Tha 2nd verse sounds good, U.N.L.V. style! Feelin’ tha gangsta lyrics on dis shit! Tha 3rd verse’s keepin’ dis joint in a good direction. Y’all havin’ fun wit makin’ this GR8 undaground Rap music!! 08. “Mannie Fresh Mix” (Ms. Tee Feat. Mannie Fresh)
Spelled “Manny” so let’s see what dis gon be like… >>> LOL, VERY Bounce here wit a sample in tha vocals from Ms. Tee. Sounds pretty catchy… Sounds like she’s singin’ a bunch of 90’s R&B songs here from “Hey Mr. DJ” to “If You Love Me”. There was anotha song I don’t think I knew… Mannie Fresh’s talkin’ in tha middle of dis; good shit! My Rating: 3.8

09. “Rape U 4 Your Life”
Very raw title here so let’s see what y’all got here!! >>> Soundin’ pretty serious on tha beat start!! Ooh, tha beat sounds REAL GOOD here on tha hook!!! Tha hook’s pretty gutta too!! Tha 1st verse has a GR8 flow and tha shit dat’s bein’ spit in here iz DEFINITELY good!! Tha 2nd verse has good shit bein’ spit wit a good voice ta hold dis shit down! Tha 3rd verse sounds like my boy Jay Regal here but it’s not. Y’all keepin’ these good rhymes goin’ here for tha gangstaz in tha hood!! My Rating: 4.8

10. “Boom Get Chopped”
Let’s keep dis gangsta shit up! >>> Good beat start and it sounds like a strong intro… Tha beat’s Bounce here, lol! Tha hook sounds good… Tha 1st verse sounds like more shit against “Mystikal,” lol. What happened wit him and y’all? Tha 2nd verse’s comin’ through pretty gutta again and sounds like y’all really goin’ against Mystikal, lol! Even tha 3rd verse here! Y’all just really angry or somethin’? I thought it was just PNC? ROFL @ tha angry, consistent endin’! My Rating: 4.1

11. “Head No Screws”
Interestin’ title; you KNOW I’ll look forward ta dis!! >>> Interestin’ intro and tha beat intro sounds REAL cool once again!! Tha hook sounds pretty gutta; REAL-ASS shit here wit tha title!!! Tha beat’s soundin’ real good once it kicks in too!! Tha 1st verse’s really hood here!! EVERY hood person has ta luv dis!! ROFL @ “go home and wash my dick;” crazy-ass shit!! Tha 2nd verse sounds like there’s a lotta consequences goin’ until tha “fiya herb” saves tha day! Tha 3rd verse starts off by soundin’ like Mr. Vegas’s “Heads High” song. Kinda short of a verse fa me ta really say somethin’ about, lol. Yea, tha “ya hoid me” outro here! Good shit all tha way through!! My Rating: 4.8

12. “Low, Down & Dirty”
Let’s see what dis gon sound like… >>> Pretty smooth beat start but then gets upbeat… “Actin’ a donkey on ‘em” on tha hook here; good shit! Cool 1st verse wit how y’all comin’ through fa tha South! Let’s see what tha 2nd verse has ta offer… Sounds like a lotta partyin’ wit tha lyrics wit mixin’ some gangsta shit! I think I got lost wit dis fa a second… I believe I’m up ta tha 2nd ½ of tha 2nd verse here wit some groovin’ shit here for tha gangstaz. Really luvin’ tha hook once again; y’all REALLY make dat title come inta GR8 play when y’all say it!! My Rating: 4.6

13. “Playa Hate’n”
Who iz? >>> Good organ in tha start here. This straight for a start… Keep tha motivation up, regardless of tha “playa hate’n” in tha hook. Pretty gutta for tha streetz in tha 1st verse here… Y’all really ‘bout these streetz! Tha 2nd verse sounds like it’s keepin’ it consistent; a lil’ short on a verse here… Tha 3rd verse’s good too… Catchy wayz tha rhymes are dealt. Tha 4th verse’s keepin’ it “real” wit tha “real niggaz” right chea; keep dat motivation up! Sounds kinda long of a song here… My Rating: 4.0

14. “Jazzy Bitch”
Will there be elements of “Jazz,” lol? >>> Dat 5:47 on tha length betta be worth it! Tha beat has a lotta clap/snares in tha beginning! Bounce style wit SWV “Right Here” in tha background sample, lol? Tha 1st verse’s not bad; keepin’ it on a Bounce level here. Tha 2nd verse sounds like ya can’t take it or somethin’ since you’re “throwin’ uppercuts.” Hang in there… I’m not even ½way through and I have a feelin’ this’ll be too long fa me… Some of these should just be two minutes shorter… I like tha endin’ to tha 2nd verse wit tha “Girbauds” you were rockin’! Tha 3rd verse sounds consistent; sounds REAL GOOD ‘round 3:52!! And now, 1:02 of a beat outro… My Rating: 3.6

15. “Black Connection” Feat. B.G., Kilo G & Ms. Tee
REAL GR8 collaboration lineup here!!! Now DIS iz where tha big length comes inta play!!! >>> Tha length’s even my birthday length (6:21); REAL GOOD LUCK!!! Tha beat sounds cool here, especially wit its uptempo sound! Tha 1st verse sounds good fa shit in tha hood! Really feelin’ these gangsta lyrics; gutta shit you can feel!! Tha 2nd part of tha 1st verse sounds good fa tha streetz; good voice ta hold tha hood down!! B.G.’s on tha 3rd part here, spittin’ consistent-ass shit!! “Huntin’ niggaz down like reindeers;” lol. Even though I’m on Long Island, NY right now, wit my grandma’s friend, we visited her future area and saw a “deer” runnin’ in tha woods, lol! Nice job, Gizzle!! Tha 4th part on tha 1st verse’s soundin’ REAL GR8 wit this drug-related content!! REAL GUTTA & REAL GANGSTA!!! It’s startin’ ta sound a lil’ off-beat all of a sudden… Ms. Tee randomly popped up on tha 5th part wit some good singin’ ta fuse wit dis shit! Tha 6th part here iz pretty gutta wit tha gr8 lyrical content!! Thumbs up to tha “hit tha ‘gar and choke” part @ 5:10; gotta feel good!! Damn, dis last part of tha verse’s goin’ ALL THA WAY ‘til like 6:07!!! My Rating: 4.4

Review #536: Pimp Dogg "Who's That Nigga"

Reviewed on 6.17.2010 (Review #536)

Time ta resume tha marathon! How many reviewz will I do today? Let’s see… Startin’ today off iz Pimp Dogg “Who’s That Nigga! Start Time: 10:57 AM | End Time: 11:40 AM

Tha gurl sounds good in tha beginning and it sounds like you doin’ ya thang on tha 1st verse for tha gurlz! Tha hook’s good ‘cause tha title sounds good when it’s flowed wit a Bounce flava. Tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ good wit mo shit wit your “homies” and “gurlz.” Tha 3rd verse sounds like you “headed to tha bar” and doin’ ya thang… Interestin’ wit tha “Rump Shaker” lil’ beat sample too in dis. Tha 1st verse sounds pretty gutta mixed wit some “fuckin’!” Tha 2nd verse keeps tha topic goin’… My bad if I don’t know where L.O.G. iz due to tha vocals soundin’ nearly tha same wit dis Bounce style. Anyway, tha 3rd verse’s pretty catchy wit tha “bitches.” LOL, a “hoe” hopped onto tha 2nd ½ of tha 3rd verse! Nice lil’ collab… My Current Rating: 4.7
EDIT: I didn’t realize I reviewed dis previously… Not bad on tha start but that hook iz tha shit!! Tha “dunn-dunn-dunn-dunn” iz in tha beat too (ta make it a Bounce beat)!!
