Review #1,745: Smoke-A-Lot "Nola Soldier"

Reviewed on 8.08.2017 (Review #1,745)

Gonna keep this movin’, while I have a focus… Happy Birthday to my boy, Jiggaman, too, by tha way! Opelousas representa, but this tha N.O. in my marathon, right chea: Smoke-A-Lot Nola Soldier, released in 1998 on Mobb Status Entertainment & Sumo Productions! Start Time: 4:35 PM | End Time: 5:11 PM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> “ iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> “ iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money and hoes (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. New Orleans
>>> Hate all tha “killing” bullshit, as well as tha floodin’… Best of luck to those that got flooded, recently… My Rating: N/A

02. “Hustla For Life”
>>> Feelin’ it; sounds like some old, throwback vibes in tha basement or somethin’! Nice job wit tha hook, here; keep tha “Smoke” up! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it sounds like you spittin’ some nice street shit, here; good shit… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and you keepin’ it goin’, here; good job… Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 3rd verse, here, strictly hustlin’ to tha fullest! My Rating: 4.4

03. “Down South Hustlin’”
>>> A lil’ dry beat, here, but your rappin’ on tha 1st verse’s pretty nice; gotta feel it… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s pretty nice, strictly “gotta do what [you] gotta do!” Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s pretty nice, here; gotta keep it movin’! And, we got tha 3rd verse, here, just like tha “escalator!” Yeah…, yeah! My Rating: 4.1

04. “Don’t Cry”
>>> Beat sounds a lil’ more upbeat than tha previous one, here; let’s see what’s good… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and you droppin’ dem rhymes while tha beat jams; good shit… Hearin’ tha hook and yeah, can’t “cry,” ya dig?! Kickin’ off tha 2nd verse without tryna be pissed “off;” I feel ya! Good job wit this verse, too; gotta keep it movin’! And, a 3rd verse, here, soundin’ pretty nice, too; glad you continuously deliverin’ this! My Rating: 4.2

05. “All Day”
>>> Sounds just like tha previous beat, only a lil’ drier… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse and you got tha flow and rhymes on lock, here; good shit…! Only “21 years-old,” here; nice… So, that means you now 40… Who knows, I’ll prolly encounter you, one day… “Retaliate; you betta masturbate;” crazy line, lol! Forgot to mention, I almost thought it turned into a different song, here? Either way, sounds pretty nice… Definitely jammin’, here, fa tha parties and shit; gotta dig it… Tha follow-up verse’s pretty dope, too, strictly holdin’ dat Boot down! My Rating: 4.3

½time: Nice job, so far, with each track; a 4.3-rated CD!

06. “N.O.L.A. Soldier”
>>> Sounds like tha beat Cam’ron would rap off of (I think it’s him? “Dinn, dinn, de-dinn; de-dinn, dinn, de-dinn…”)? Hearin’ tha 1st verse and you sound good fa tha streetz, here; nice representin’… Tha hook almost sounds like tha previous song, only slowed down, which I find interestin’… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and you keepin’ this movin’, just like you should… “Seven dayz a week, my eyes open fa survival;” dope line… My Rating: 3.9

07. “What We Claimin’”
>>> Definitely feelin’ tha G-Funk-soundin’ beat and tha gutta-soundin’ vocals from you, here, on tha hook! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice, ya dig? And, tha 2nd verse’s soundin’ nice ta hear, too; lots of gutta yell-rappin’, lol… An “ugh” part like Master P, too, lol… My Rating: 4.0

08. “Thug Nigga”
>>> “Pullin’ kapas” on this 1st verse, right chea, strictly tryna “survive;” feelin’ this motive, right chea! Beat kinda plain but it makes you rap upbeat like this, so that’s what’s up… Wow, it’s ’98 and you “got jiggaz?” Dope shit! Too bad I wasn’t that old or active durin’ tha real “jiggaz” phase… I just caught on but was nowhere-near Louisiana till 2017… It’s rare to find real “jiggaz,” these dayz… Either way, nice lil’ simple hook, too… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s pretty dope, too… “Kapa”-chasin’ wit tha 3rd verse, here, keepin’ it movin’; nice… My Rating: 4.1

09. “9+Tech”
>>> A bounce vibe, here, gangstain’ it up wit tha “9” and tha “tech;” nice hook, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s pretty nice, here; definitely feelin’ tha energy… A quick-ass 1st verse, here; let’s see how many verses we can fit in 3:34! Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 2nd verse, here, continuin’ ta hold it down… A longer verse, this time, but tha pace seems like it’s quick, either way… Keepin’ it goin’ wit tha 3rd verse & it’s soundin’ nice! Oh yeah, speakin’ of fast, welcome back, Zippin’ Zindle (Zippin’ Zin)! My Rating: 3.8

10. “Sunset Then It’s Time”
>>> I’m diggin’ this hook; definitely feelin’ tha eerie beat and gutta-soundin’ vocals on tha hook! All about dat “9,” still! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s soundin’ nice, too; good shit… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse and it’s pretty nice, too; gotta dig tha upbeat vibes! And, tha 3rd verse’s pretty nice, too; nice job, once again… My Rating: 4.2

11. “Thug Juice”
>>> A random female on tha hook, here; diggin’ her “thug juice” on this West Coast-soundin’ beat, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it don’t sound like you; sound like some1 else? Whoeva these dudes are, it aight… And, a 2nd verse, here, soundin’ decent wit these uncredited people on it… Because I don’t know who’s on these verses, my interest ain’t all tha way there, ya feel me? And, a decent-soundin’ 3rd verse, too, steadily keepin’ it movin’… My Rating: 3.4

Overall: I thought most of this CD was pretty dope… Nice job wit tha street music; keep up tha grind in tha 40’s!
