R.I.P. Video #74: FYNIC Looney

Broadcasting from tha trenches, here in Baton Rouge, LA, it's ya boy, FrankieThaLuckyDog here, sadly reportin' anotha tragic loss in tha Louisiana rap community.

Freddie Thomas, known by his stage name, FYNIC Looney, was murdered around 11:00 PM on Sunday, September 13, 2020, off tha 5700 block of Henderson Avenue; he was only 27 years-old. Thomas was trappin' with "large quantities of marijuana" inside a house, where he was shot multiple times at 5724 Henderson Avenue. Once officers arrived at tha scene, Thomas was already pronounced dead. Currently, there are no motives or suspects found in this case.

Thomas was born on June 20, 1993, in Baton Rouge, LA. He began rappin' durin' tha 2010's amongst tha Baton Rouge clicks, Forever Young Niggaz In Charge (FYNIC) & tha Dirty Dinero Band Camp. One of Thomas' first appearances on a release was tha late Baton Rouge rapper, King Joe & his King Almighty mixtape, released on March 5, 2017 & hosted by Baton Rouge DJ, DJ Scrap. Tha following month, on April 8, 2017, Joe was murdered, at just 23 years-old. Thomas began payin' his respects to Joe as often as possible. In 2018, Thomas released his 1st release, Looney Tunes, Vol. 1 & followed it up in 2019 with tha sequel, Looney Tunes, Vol. 2. With tha release of multiple videos throughout tha years, as well as just bein' featured two dayz before his death in an upcoming music video of Baton Rouge's Kmac, Thomas kept tha undaground streetz of BR goin' until Sunday, September 13, 2020, where he was murdered on Henderson Avenue. Earlier, on June 20th, Thomas celebrated his 27th birthday & iz now reconnected with his long-lost friend, King Joe.

Not that often do I get tha time, especially durin’ tha middle of editin’ a documentary, that I can get a CD on its release date & review it in tha same day. Lucky for Baton Rouge producer/rapper, $hop With Ken, here’s that moment! Courtesy of Forever Young Entertainment, here goes my review for his brand-new release, Platinum Status, entirely produced by Ken, himself! I have to say, I’m diggin’ tha front cover; reminds me of tha ‘90s Cash Money/Pixel graphic covers! Start Time: 6:48 PM | End Time: 7:34 PM

504 in tha buildin’, here… >>> Sounds like a nice lil’ “[Cutthroat] Comitty”-like vibe, here, wit tha hook and you on tha beat, Ken… Hearin’ tha 1^st verse from tha Lil’ Soulja and it’s soundin’ nice ta hear, str8 from tha 5-0-4… Keepin’ it movin’ wit Kidd on tha 2^nd verse, holdin’ it down, too… Overall, just a nice, regular-soundin’ joint, right chea… My Rating: 4.0

It’s almost as if Cash Money was an undaground secret, again, str8 from tha Internet! Keepin’ it movin’ wit Turk on tha 2^nd verse, doin’ his thang, too; can’t deny it! My Rating: 4.3

I’ono, but this ain’t really go down like I wanted it to… My Rating: 3.2

Dat Baton Rouge street shit’s on tha 2^nd verse, here, strictly holdin’ it down! Definitely feelin’ all dat aggression! And, tha 3^rd verse sounds a lil’ too fast wit tha rappin’? Runnin’ circles through my head? My Rating: 4.3

Now, there’s King Joe on tha feature… >>> Nice lil’ hook, here, strictly bein’ hit wit da “rocket!” Hearin’ tha 1^st verse and there’s a lotta energy in this verse, right chea! Good shit from tha JB dude, here, strictly holdin’ it down! I like how he plays with Juvenile’s “Back That Azz Up”’s “yeah” shit… And, we got King Joe comin’ through on tha 2^nd verse, here, consistently doin’ tha damn thang on tha track! Definitely a dope collaboration, here; top-rated, surprisingly? My Rating: 4.5

Ending with… >>> Nice lil’ upbeat beat ta jam to, but to also sound nice fa tha streetz… Feelin’ tha hook, here, strictly bustin’ dem headz! Hearin’ tha 1^st verse and it’s soundin’ nice from this VC dude… Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha dude on tha 2^nd verse, here, soundin’ a lil’ more street wit this voice, right chea… Definitely feelin’ how it’s upbeat, here… Soundin’ pretty consistent at 1:56, here! Lots of “eye”-soundin’ rhymes, here! Reminds me of tha ‘90s baby version of Percy Keith? We shall see what kinda future he gon have! And, tha 3^rd verse’s soundin’ nice ta hear, here, with its street content… My Rating: 4.2

Overall: Sounds like a CD that gon feed tha streetz of BR fa a minute… Shout out to tha newbies I barely/neva heard, before! I see a future with some of these peeps/this CD; good job, Ken! Definitely one of tha best on tha beats, these dayz!

>>> Nice intro from Scrap, here; glad there was a connection… Beat kinda reminds me of YB & Tazz’s “Broski’s” with that sound that comes every four bars… However, this beat kinda plain… Hearin’ tha 1^st verse and it’s ehh… I’ono how much I can feel this… Just sounds like typical, mainstream-soundin’ shit ta me… Only thang that has, like, a Louisiana vibe fa me iz your voice… Tha hook ain’t bad; let’s continue… Hearin’ tha 2^nd verse and it sounds a lil’ betta wit how you consistently deliver it. Still, nothin’ too special, here… My Rating: 3.4

However, this was released on March 5… I have to say, this beat’s a lil’ betta than tha previous one… I’m feelin’ tha way tha sounds go, especially that whistle… Hearin’ tha hook and it sounds nice… I’m not a fan of depressing songs but this hook’s nice wit how y’all dealin’ wit shit… Hearin’ tha 1^st verse and it ain’t that bad; good job wit this… Tha 2^nd verse sounds like tha same dude who’s on tha hook, here… A decent job wit contributin’, holdin’ it down… And, tha 3^rd verse’s pretty nice, here; gangsta shit, here… My Rating: 3.7

YB!! >>> Sounds like jacked-beat shit? Tha hook can be catchy but I’ono how much I can seriously fuck wit it… If I think of it soundin’ like a jacked beat (can’t think of it, at tha moment—Future song?), then just consider that it sounds like tha same shit that’s out on tha radio, these dayz… Hearin’ tha 1^st verse and I ain’t feelin’ tha voice; no need for an effect! Lack of interest, here… Keepin’ it movin’ wit YB on tha 2^nd verse, here, soundin’ much betta/much-more normal! Gotta luv all tha consistent rhymes! “My heart iz Sub Zero ‘cause it’s below zero;” good shit! See, if this whole entire CD had verses like YB’s verse on this, it would sound much betta! I wouldn’t mind him, no matter what tha tracks sounded like! Hearin’ tha 3^rd verse and it don’t hold tha same weight as YB… Just reminds me that YB on this CD iz equivalent to how I hold my job down like no other! Almost thought my rating was gon be near tha 2.0’s, but YB saved tha vibe… Also, I remember that “back then, I was a nobody,” too! My Rating: 3.8

>>> A decent start but I yawn in my head when I hear nothin’ but “money” this, “money” that. Like, example: YB ‘bout his money, but his incredible verse on tha last song ain’t have “money, money, money” this; “money, money, money” that! With that bein’ said, tha 1^st verse’s ehh/not bad… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s nice. I’ono why, but your voice on here sometimes reminds me of A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie… Hearin’ tha 2^nd verse and it’s ehh, as well; can’t cling on too well… My Rating: 3.5

>>> Wow, this sounds like YB music, here, on tha hook/beat/vibe! Definitely much betta than tha shit on this CD, so far! Luved when I seen YB & Razy Ray perform at tha Hookah Lounge, last month. I heard tha consistency come out in tha rhymes, especially in Razy Ray’s appearance; shit was dope! Hearin’ tha 2^nd verse and it’s pretty nice, here; good shit from Lee Banks! Nice collab, here; this was your golden collab! My Rating: 4.2

Lenard Nicholas, known in tha rap game as King Joe, was shot and killed earlier on Saturday, April 8, 2017 in Baton Rouge, LA. Nicholas was a part of Baton Rouge, LA producer, $hop With Ken's F.Y.N.I.C. click (Forever Young Entertainment) & also, tha Dirty Dinero Band Camp. F.Y.N.I.C. released their debut CD, Forever Young Vol. 1, in 2014 on Forever Young Entertainment. Nicholas was featured on Baton Rouge, LA rapper, YB's Don't Die Wondering CD in 2017 & released his debut/only CD, King Almighty (Hosted by DJ Scrap), on March 5, 2017 with tha Dirty Dinero Gang. On April 4, Nicholas was on tha 400 block of Elmer Ave. at around 12:30 PM when a shooting broke out. According to documents, Nicholas' baby mama got into a fight with her brother, 19-year-old Willie Wilson III. Once they got into a second fight, Wilson got a handgun and began to shoot Nicholas. Once tha shooting was done, Wilson fled tha scene with tha handgun and later turned himself in to BRPD custody. According to Wilson, he told police that he shot Nicholas 'cause he feared for his life because he knew Nicholas always had a gun on him. On Wednesday morning, Wilson was booked into tha East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, being charged with attempted manslaughter and illegal use of a weapon. Nicholas, on Saturday, April 8, 2017, was pronounced dead at a local hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to tha neck; he was only 23 years-old.

A bonus review aside from my Louisiana Reviewz Marathon, I have YB Don’t Die Wondering, here, released on Dirty Dinero Gang! Hearin’ tha hook and it’s pretty nice, here; great shit from you, Y-Bizzle!! Your song, “Broski’s”, with Tazz, has become one of tha best songs I’ve played from Louisiana! Song reminds me of my broski, who’s currently locked up, in which I added tha track on his birthday, last year (September 9)! Definitely nice! Hearin’ you on tha 1^st verse, here, and it’s pretty nice; good shit! Gotta dig tha consistent, street shit you bringin’ to tha table, here! Tha hook’s nice wit tha sample; definitely dope wit how we’ve evolved in life! Good shit comin’ outta tha 2^nd verse, here, strictly keepin’ it Rouge fa tha Rouge! And, good shit comin’ outta tha 3^rd verse, too; definitely nice wit tha voice/content/delivery! My Rating: 4.3

Nice lil’ 1^st verse, here… Tha hook sounds nice ta hear, even tho sometimes, I feel like it sounds mainstream… Hearin’ tha 2^nd verse and I’m likin’ how you sound a lil’ more upbeat in your voice, here… Almost thought there was gon be a 3^rd verse but it’s close to a minute of an outro, here… My Rating: 3.9

>>> Sounds like it gon be anotha nice Ken beat, but my mind keeps throwin’ me off, as if I heard some of these tracks, already… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s good, but betta once you say tha title part! That 2^nd ½ of tha hook nice…! Hearin’ tha 1^st verse and you “come from tha bottom like grass,” lol! Nice job wit what you bringin’ to tha table, here… Hearin’ Dinero on tha 2^nd verse, here, comin’ through wit some catchy rhymes; can’t deny ‘em… My Rating: 4.1

Overall: Other than “Birthplace”’s extraordinary rating, there weren’t really any crazy-ass ratings. However, definitely tha selection of bangerz, here! Good shit, YB! Always hope you do music all day, err-day!!
