Review #1,888: Mr. Serv-On "Da Next Level"

Reviewed on 12.21.2019 (Review #1,888)

Lemme keep these reviewz goin’: Mr. Serv-On Da Next Level’s my next review, released in 1999 on No Limit Records & Priority Records! Start Time: 9:42 AM | End Time: 10:56 AM

Disclaimer: I rate each song from 1.0 – 5.0; each rating iz my own opinion! I only please myself wit my ratings! I don’t care how lyrical you are, as long as it’s jammin’ enough for me to like it! I look for beats, then vocals, and then lyrics. To determine my favorites, I will differ tha 4.0 ratings. If a song gets at least a 4.0 rating from me, I love it already. If at least a 4.6 rating, I pretty much really love it, as it’s considered mindblowin’ when I hear it! Any song can earn up to a maximum of a 5.0 rating. Anything I type before “ >>> ” iz what I’m sayin’ before I listen to tha song; anything after I type “ >>> ” iz what I think of tha song while I’m listening to it. If you sound like anything too mainstream for me, have auto-tune in your vocals, or talk about nothin’ but money (which I consider ‘typical’ topics), I’m not buyin’ it!

01. Forever My Life: The Beginning
Producer: Craig B & O’Dell
>>> Nice wishes to those that are “forever [your] life;” good intro… My Rating: N/A

02. “Tank Nigga” feat. C-Murder, Fiend, Kane, Abel, Lil’ Soldiers & Mia X
Producer: KLC
>>> Definitely luvin’ tha gutta-ass hook! Aggression at its finest!! Luvin’ this 1st verse, too, as it’s quick, consistent, gutta-ass rhymin’!! Nice job, especially wit this No Limit-type beat! Got C on tha 2nd verse, here, comin’ through wit his dope shit; definitely nice! Tha guttaness continues wit tha gritty-ass 2nd part of tha 2nd verse; gotta luv it! Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 3rd verse, soundin’ nice & No Limitty; good shit! Why tha Lil’ Soldiers feature on tha 2nd part of tha 3rd verse? Doesn’t even fit… Other Lil’ Soldier on tha 3rd part of tha verse; ick… Shout out ta Master P fa executive-producin’ this CD; it’s official! Mia X on tha 4th verse, here, comin’ through wit a nice, gutta vibe; you know what it iz! Also, tha 2nd part of tha 4th verse’s pretty dope, too; all focused, here! Oh wait, with only 32 seconds left, Kane & Abel goin’ off on tha 5th verse, here!! Every1 went off, here! Prevented it to be higher than a 4.5, tho, due to tha Lil’ Soldiers feature… My Rating: 4.5

03. “Boot ‘Em Up” feat. Fiend & Mystikal
Producer: KLC
>>> Definitely hype & focused, here; gotta feel it! Hook off tha chain; let’s do dis!! Hearin’ tha 1st verse & it’s pretty hype; aggression at its finest!! Likin’ tha random chick that was countin’ ta “6,” before tha 2nd verse started; nice addition…! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & it’s soundin’ pretty nice, here; keep bein’ focused…! Dope-ass Mystikal on tha 3rd verse, here, comin’ through wit his 100%-hyped-up-ass, here; gotta luv it! My Rating: 4.6

04. “From N.Y. To N.O.” feat. Big Punisher
Producer: KLC
Big Pun! But also, that title’s me, all tha way! >>> Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse ova this nicely-produced beat from KL & it’s soundin’ good. Sometimes, your delivery sounds more like a spoken-word style than rappin’, I must say… “New Orleans; shit iz doper than morphine;” nice, Pun! Hearin’ Pun on tha 2nd verse & I’m luvin’ his consistency; definitely a plus, to tha fullest! My Rating: 4.3

05. “F.U. Serv”
Producer: Carlos Stephens
>>> Sounds like an anthemic beat, as well as tha “back up off me” hook & title part; good shit! Hearin’ what you got on tha 1st verse, here & you goin’ off; nice job! Tha 2nd verse sounds dope, as well, even tho this spoken-word flow kinda throws me off… My Rating: 4.2

06. “Murder” feat. Magic
Producer: Ke’noe
>>> Beat sounds nice; sounds like it gon be a hyped-up collab…? Beat’s slower than tha faster hype but this shit’s definitely nice fa tha streetz, here…! Hearin’ tha hook & it’s pretty dope; good shit… Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse & it’s str8, except for some of tha spoken-word flowin’… Tha hyped-up Magic on tha 2nd verse, here, comin’ through wit his tightness; luv his aggression at all times!! Got you on tha 3rd verse, here, comin’ through wit tha yada-yada-yada-yada…; it iz what it iz, I guess? My Rating: 4.2

07. “I Hate The Way I Live”
Producer: Craig B
>>> Sounds like a depressin’-type song? An okay hook; I prolly won’t feel it as much, especially wit tha expected spoken-word flow… Hearin’ tha 1st verse & yeah, it’s blah, blah, blah; next…! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & yeah, this one’s just as storytellin’ as tha 1st verse; not much interest in me… Damn, an outro about 100 seconds long? Oh wait, this ain’t an outro; it’s tha 3rd verse! Duh, Frankie!! My Rating: 2.7

08. “Best Friend II” feat. C-Murder & Dorian
Producer: Carlos Stephens
>>> Sounds good wit C on tha hook about this “lady” he calls his “best friend;” good shit! Here comes tha 1st verse from you & it’s a lil’ betta. I still think you should work on that flow, tho! Like, you don’t harmonize off tha beat at any times!! Got C rappin’ on tha 2nd verse, here, comin’ through wit dat good shit, even fa tha females, here; nice! Here you are on tha 3rd verse, as well, comin’ through wit some decent shit; not bad… My Rating: 4.1

09. “1, 2, 3”
Producer: Carlos Stephens
>>> Tha hook sounds a lil’ catchy, as well as C-Los’ beat; good shit…! Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it cool, even fa your typical flow, here… Got tha 2nd verse goin’ on, here & it sounds good fa what it iz… I think your beats make you sound hotter than your raps, at this point? My Rating: 4.0

10. “Straight Outta N.O.” feat. C-Murder & Magic
Producer: Craig B
>>> Sounds good wit C on tha 1st verse, here, as well as tha hyped-up beat! Tha hook’s pretty hype; what an anthem! Just like “Straight Outta Compton,” here you are on tha 2nd verse, “Straight outta uptown!” Feelin’ your flow this time, even tho it still sounds like fast talkin’… Ooh, Magic want a “blunt” & he want it “rolled;” nice! He “straight outta downtown,” here; nice, as well! He doin’ his thang on tha 3rd verse, comin’ through wit dat hype! Gotta feel it!! Luvin’ tha “uptown/downtown” shit toward tha final minute; gotta luv it! Keep makin’ dat bread…, together! My Rating: 4.6

11. “Snatch Them Hoez Up” feat. Mia X
Producer: Mo B. Dick
>>> Sounds pretty nice, here; feelin’ tha hype! Beat’s on point, as well as tha hyped-up hook! Gotta be in fa tha crowd, as well as in tha crowd! Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse & it sounds nice, here; likin’ this flow betta, as you have more than just talkin’, here… Mia on tha 2nd verse, here, comin’ through wit some nice shit; glad y’all all anthemic, here! My Rating: 4.3

½time: Despite most of your flows of bein’ a spoken-word sound, I’m feelin’ tha consistent set of anthems, here! It’s all about tha hype, tha aggression, tha No Limit power! A 4.2-rated CD, so far; keep it up!

12. “My Homies” feat. Sons Of Funk
Producer: Rico
>>> A slow, sad-soundin’ track; I’ono, here, includin’ tha singin’ hook… Hearin’ tha 1st verse & it’s ehh; can’t tolerate tha speakin’… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & it aight…; I feel tha whole anti-“free” thing about bein’ tha “bird.” It’s like, with what I’m goin’ through right nah, I don’t feel “free” till I have 100% of my freedom back! Now, we got a 1:11-long outro; it’s an okay wish… My Rating: 2.5

13. “This Is For My Niggaz” feat. Ghetto Commission
Producer: Carlos Stephens
>>> Sounds a lil’ more upbeat than tha last song… Feelin’ what C-Los providin’ wit this laidback beat, as it sounds like you can shmoke a good one ta this slow vibe…! Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse & it’s aight; not too crazy ‘bout tha flow… Likin’ how tha hook dedicated ta tha “dawgs” & shit; good shit! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse from tha GC click & it sounds nice; feelin’ their flow/aggression more than yours, here…! Got tha 3rd verse goin’ on, here & it str8; not too bad of a track, overall… My Rating: 3.3

14. “Freaky Dreams” feat. O’Dell
Producer: O’Dell
>>> Anotha slow jam but for tha ladies, this time… Hearin’ tha hook and it ehh; not really inta dis… Even down to tha 1st verse, here; sounds like it’s draggin’… O’Dell, that was long of a hook/verse/hook; over two minutes! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse from you, Serv-On & it ehh…; this flow lacks, once again…! My Rating: 1.8

15. “Make ‘Em Bleed”
Producer: Carlos Stephens
>>> A short one, here…; nice beat & okay hook, here… Hearin’ tha 1st verse & it sounds good wit your more-aggressive flow, I must say… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & it’s soundin’ nice; all you needed was a lil’ aggression, at times…! Nice shout out ta “DMX,” as well, about “Hell” bein’ “hot!” My Rating: 4.1

16. “Hit The Block”
Producer: O’Dell
>>> Okay beat, here; I’ono about this flow on tha 1st verse, tho… Hearin’ tha hook and it str8 wit tha whole hittin’ “tha block;” not bad… Keepin’ it movin’ wit tha 2nd verse & it’s ehh…; just can’t tolerate tha flow…! My Rating: 3.5

17. “Strap Up” feat. Fiend
Producer: Carlos Stephens
>>> Sounds a lil’ betta than tha previous track…; hook & 1st verse ain’t too bad, here, ova this southern beat… Got Fiend on tha 2nd verse, here, comin’ through wit his aggressive flow/verse; definitely feelin’ it! Great lil’ contribution & lol, “Bitch, I’m from Baton Rouge;” really? “Bitch, I’m from Louisville…;” “bitch, I’m from Birmingham…;” “bitch, I’m from Mississippi;” I figured! It’s just N.O., basically; just shout outs… “Bitch, I’m from Shreveport;” how about Hawaii, lol? My Rating: 3.8

18. “I’ll Be There” feat. Ms. Peaches
Producer: O’Dell
>>> Sounds like a sad track; not sure what tha rating gon be… Hearin’ tha hook & it’s ehh; too sad wit Peaches singin’ & you appearin’… Hearin’ you speakin’ on tha 1st verse & it’s rough ta hear; hate hearin’, especially wit my situation goin’ on…! Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & I don’t have a comment on it… My Rating: 2.1

19. “My Story” feat. KLC
Producer: KLC
>>> Sounds like it okay wit this decent/good-soundin’ rap beat & KL on tha hook… Hearin’ tha 1st verse from you & it’s soundin’ okay wit your usual flow… Hearin’ tha 2nd verse & it ain’t bad, here; just yada-yada-yada, basically… God, a 3rd verse? Just draggin’, at this point… My Rating: 2.4

20. “I Luv It”
Producer: Mo B. Dick
>>> Sounds like an okay intro & verse… Hearin’ tha hook and it’s str8; this relaxin’ & quick, luckily… Oh wait, a 2nd verse ta end it off, quickly; not bad… My Rating: 3.6

21. “The Last Song” feat. O’Dell
Producer: Mark In The Dark, Craig B & KLC
>>> An okay beat & hook, here; more on tha sad side…? Hearin’ you on tha 1st verse & it’s ehh… Tha 2nd verse sounds like more talkin’; barely payin’ attention ta what’s goin’ on… A 3rd verse, here…; this track ain’t fa me at all… Tha final hook sounds like it’s startin’ ta be all off-beat & shit… My Rating: 1.5

22. Forever My Life: The End
Producer: Craig B & O’Dell
>>> No comment on tha outro, here; just keep thinkin’ positive! My Rating: N/A

Overall: Not feelin’ your flow throughout this whole CD; gonna have ta work on it! Your features & producers mainly helped you out, here…; that’s all I have ta say.

Producer: Meech Wells
>>> Beat sounds like “west coast smooth,” as I shall call it; cool lil’ beat… Hearin’ tha 1st verse from Snoop & it’s cool; I fucks wit it… Well, I thought I fucked wit it but not just Snoop not bein’ a Louisianimal but that this verse just drags on makes me not fuck wit it too much… My Rating: 2.7

07. Mia X “Such A Bad Girl”
Producer: Carlos Stephens
>>> Beat ain’t bad, here… Hearin’ Mia on tha 1st verse & it’s soundin’ good; what else can she offer? Tha hook’s ehh…; just sounds like a decent track that could fall below average fa me? ½time: Some are great, while some lack in my interest… Overall, a 3.7-rated compilation, so far; let’s keep tha tight tracks comin’!

09. Big Ed “I’m Hot”
Producer: Beats By The Pound
>>> Anotha regular-soundin’ beat; nothin’ sparkin’ too much wit these beats… Hearin’ tha 1st verse and it’s regular rappin’ fa me; nothin’ of special interest… Hearin’ tha hook and I’m feelin’ tha “uh oh” shit; feelin’ Ed’s fiya… Got tha 2nd verse goin’ on, here & it’s okay; keep it goin’—oh wait, a long outro’s here! My Rating: 3.6

14. 2 For 1 “Pass Me The Ball”
Producer: Beats By The Pound
>>> Oh boy, it’s chicks…; this track about tha “ball” sounds a lil’ catchy on tha hook, tho repetitive… Tha beat ain’t bad & tha 1st verse has some energy, here… If I called these people “chicks,” I could also mean youngins like tha Lil’ Soldiers… Either way, 2nd verse doesn’t do much fa me, here… My Rating: 2.9

16. Master P “B-Ball”
Producer: MP
I’m assumin’ this a radio edit, despite not bein’ labeled that way? Either way: See #1 fa tha review…

Overall: No Skull Duggrey, my favorite No Limit soulja? Smh… Either way, looked like this was pretty mixed. About half tha CD wasn’t up my alley, while tha other half held it down with energy & aggression. Wonder what’ll be afta this CD, when I get up from sleepin’? Finna go ta sleep till sometime this afternoon, since I got off work at 5:00 AM…
